MMS on HTC Touch - Networking

ey y'all
i'm havin sum questions bout the MMS settings, on my HTC Touch
when i tried sending an MMS message earlier with a picture & msg in it, my phone automatically connected to my provider's data connection to send it.
I don't want this.
I opened the provider settings, to try n change it n get it 2 work thru WiFi... can someone help with that?
Here's wut i gotta enter:
-Server name: Internet?
-Gateway : .. ?
-Port number: ..?
-Server address: ?
-Connect via: The Internet (or my ISP?)
-Send limit: 300K
-WAP Version: WAP 2.0

it can only be don if the operator alow access from the normal web some only allow access from the servers the phone have access to from the phone

what's your provider?

And how m i supposed 2 get allowance 2 use wifi i'm not callin those bastardz dey wan me 2 use their data connect!
I'm in Canada, n my provider is Rogers

I don't know what to tell you in that respect. I'm pretty sure MMS requires data on any phone. Even if not, HTCs are made especially for data usage...

wit my old nokia, i cud send MMSes without ever havin 2 connect 2 no GPRS... quite surprisin =S

Actually the MMS mode on nokias used a specific GPRS connect which was invisible to normal use. It used an MMS access point

but i wouldn't get charged for any 'data' connection... just the MMS cost

from what i know, is that MMS's are charged not by data but MMS itself.
example, sending an MMS cost's u only the MMS price (data not included).
maybe providers are different, donno.

o2 wap

Hi,
Im new to the site and the phone, just got an upgrade on it.
Im on the old Genie contracts so O2 wont allow me to use GPRS, does anyone know if theres a way round this? Also they told me I cant use wap on this phone, is this true?
Thank you
back in the day many cellphone operators offered wap over gsm
but i think that the operator have to support it just like with wap over grps
do people really use wap with their xda's btw ?
i never use it it's ugly and a horrible std. and when ones device can do normal html then why bother with wap ?
Obviously Id rather use GPRS but the phone just doesnt give me access to it (O2 have told me they have de-activated from there side, only way to get it is to change my contract which i dont want to do), so I have no alternative but to use WAP unless there is a way round the problem.
today wap use grps if they deactivated grps then i doubt you can find any way around that
however as i said then wap can also be made to use pure gsm and not use grps
but if the network operator dont support wap over gsm then there is no way around that
so you can look for wap settings for o2 without grps that is if they support that and try those settings
I was on the old Genie contract and you can't use GPRS or MMS (Which uses GPRS) without changing your contract.
You still however have the GSM connection using the telephone number : 915000 and the user and password being o2wap, this is a "Cellular Line" and will only be 9600bps but that is free on the old genie contract and will work for web and wap and email and msn.. its basically a slow net connection that routes through their servers (which seem to sometims compress images horrifically).
I've changed my contract as i wanted MMS and GPRS. If on the o2 Active screen you choose myxda and then connections you can choose GSM, but this sets up two connections one which is a wap number and one that is very slightly different that is a web number, neither of which are 915000 (probably due to when you're roaming) and the web number maybe chargable if they're picky.
If you setup what the XDA calls an ISP connectiong with the wap 915000 it works fine. However the ISP connection seems to be for Web connections and if you try to goto wsp:// in IE it says there's no connection present as i think its set to dial the work connection for wap usage. I've only had my phone for about a month and haven't really had a chance to get any furthur with this.
Good luck.
Hope that all helped.
Tristan
I have an O2 payg sim, I can connect to wap over gprs but I dont like wap, I use the gsm line to get full internet access for my 300 minutes free. It is very easy to setup and although it runs at only 9600 I am able to retrieve/send pop3 email and access all web sites. I delete all the autoconfig settings from connections before entering the gsm details.
I also have the old genie setup, and can both access wap and www etc using the original 915000 dial up free wap no. I am presuming you have the free message and free wap tarrif! If so I can give you the details if you pm me.
However you cant send or recieve mms messages still, you need to do this via the o2 site, when it bloomin works

Thank you everyone for your help, this seems like a great community here
mitchellgunn, thats the same one I got, unlimited free wap and txting, Ive sent you a PM

Three Services

Is anybody using their JasJar on the Three network, i tried a matees sim in mine and i was able to do video, but i was wondering about all the other Three services. Live TV, football downloads and the like, do they work, if so what do you need to do to access all these features. I am thinking about going to Three from O2 (No 3G Service in my area), so any advice would help.
Also do three allow full internet access?
Cheers
Richard
Tried my current "three" sim and it worked fine as a phone - not tried video call
When I changed settings- I did get a GPRS ( 3G- shows as U on xda exec) connection - to a pager telling me to sign up ( ie its not free / inclusive in normal tarrifs)
They do mobile web ( not sure you get full internet access) 5mb at £2.50
OR
wireless web - which costs £45 per month for 512Mb of data
these are as an extra to a contract
http://www.three.co.uk/explore/howmuch/addons/payMonthlyindex05.omp
I have previously tried them for dial up , using a mobile as a modem ( geog no for ISP) but they know its data call and block it ( or at least did for me )-
What are the GPRS settings for THREE ?
Can you get to the normal THREE menus via the Universal?
Ive used the THREE menus on my old XDAII but lost the settings now. I got them from a nokia 7600 a friend had.
All I changed was the homepage to three.co.uk
settings
hello
i too have a '3' sim with 6 months left on contract but i am having difficulty finding connection settings to access the three network.
i would like to use the mms facility and also mobile internet
any help please.
thanks
Right, for Hutchinson 3G UK (3) you need to use the following settings.
Connection
Connection Type:
GPRS/3G
Access Point:
three.co.uk
Username & Password:
LEAVE BLANK
MMS Settings
Gateway:
217.171.129.2
Port:
9201
Server address:
http://mms.um.three.co.uk:10021/mmsc
As for being able to browse 3's "Services", I found the homepage won't display correctly.

orange mms

hey ive got orange gprs to work finnaly im still stuck with getting mms to work wondered if anyone is using the wizard on orange and has managed to get the mms settings to work. cab files dont seem to work and manual setting seem to just as useless all help is appriciated.
Have you tried these - reliable source
Data Bearer GPRS - connect via my isp
Access Point Node (APN) (server name) orangemms
User ID Orange
Password Multimedia
Port number 9201
IP Address (gateway) 192.168.224.10
MMS Message Server http://mms.orange.co.uk/
I cannot receive MMS fro Orange. I'm told by them that this is aproblem that they have had for some time and no answer is in sight.
Orange - they seem to employ people on work expreience !
Sometimes I wonder how Orange keep their customers. They have such a robust cellular system that seems to work even in caves and IMHO is the best network with the worst support and full of employees giving misinformation. If you hit a good technician then its OK but the telphone support staff must just read off computer terminals.
I have had MMS working on Orange since the Wizard came out.
1. Go to Comms
2. Go to Conections
3. Go to manage new connections under top group of settings ie not My Work Network
4. Click on new, then enter
Name for new Conection = anything you fancy
Select a modem = Cellular Line GPRS
Access point name = orangemms
User name = DO NOT PUT ANYTHING HERE
Password = DO NOT PUT ANYTHING HERE
and do not put anything anywhere else in these setup pages.
The auto switching does not seem to be reliable so I select my mms setting as above before using it. Then try sending an mms if it goes into an outbox try resending it from there. I think you have to persevere a few attempts but if you try the above it will work. I have a T-Mobile unlocked but with all original software and addins.
Hope this helps
Kindest regards
Tony Catania
i got frustrated thinking mine didnt work. I find that if i have been connected to the orange world internet gprs, i cannot then send or receive mms until i soft reset. It then works every time never fails.

O2 - Getting billed for GPRS usage when sending MMS

Every time I send an MMS, GPRS usage appears on my O2 online bill.
Does anyone else have this?
On my i-mate JAM I've set messenger not to connect automatically. I'm not sure what else could be causing the data transfer on my phone, so I'm wondering if it's at O2's end?
I've emailed them with this query, but they keep anwering with irrelevant replies.
Thanks in advance!
MMS messages are sent via GPRS. Well at least, mine are and I'm on O2!
As of March/April, O2 are now charging for GPRS useage. Prior to that (one of their operativies told me) they did not have a suitable billing system in place.. now they have. My mate got stung with a large bill back then!!
dood is right they have started charging for gprs usage but your mms is sent via gprs but on a diffrent settings your browser uses mobile web and you get charged for gprs the mms doesnt and you should not be getting charged for it.
check your mms setting and make sure its not set to connect to mobile web to send your mms
you should have these settings
server :02UK
gateway:193.113.200.195
port:9201
server address:http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
try that

Click to collapse
Thanks. It was set to connect via "The Internet" so now I've changed it to O2. I'll see how that goes. 8)

Exchange & MMS

Hi
I have a question about the Mms.
I have my phone connected thru a exchange server and when someone send me a mms the phone cant connect to recive it, i must disconnect the exchange uplink=(internet).
Is it just me or can i change something on my phone to get the mms working at the same time i have the internet exchange online...

Exchange ActiveSync & MMS
Hi Asik,
I have the same problem with MMS and Exchange Sync. When you have set MMS to automatically download, the X1 will try a few times to download the MMS without notifying me and after 8 days (in my network), I get the message that the MMS timed out and I'm no longer able to get it - VERY BAD
If you set the MMS to download manually, you will get notified that a new MMS is there! You can then click on "Download". The X1 then shows a message that it needs to disconnect Internet and connect to the MMS APN. You have to say "Yes" on the right Menu Now! Then, the MMS gets downloaded and afterwards, Internet gets reconnected for Exchange ActiveSync. Not very beautiful, but at least a workaround.
Does anybody knows of a better way?
Ok, so its not just me that have this problem....
I also use the above metod to get my MMS and it sucks that i cant get them auto to me...
Help us out here guys... this cant be the way to do it or ???

Exchange ActiveSync & MMS
Hi Asik,
another solution would be to use the same APN for Internet and MMS. Unfortunately, this does not work for me and probaly for most of us because:
My Provider has seperate APN's for MMS and Internet:
With the Internet APN, I cannot access the MMSC to download or send messages.
With the MMS APN, I can access both, Internet and MMSC, but it get's disconnected automatically after receiving an MMS or after about 2 Minutes. With this, ActiveSync would reconnect every 2 Minutes and this would be quite expensive, because a new 20kB Block would be charged and never used bevor the next disconnect.
The Telco's should provide an Internet APN that doesn't disconnect and also allows to connect the MMSC.
I think its the same for my provider...Telia Sweden
