Bizarre time problem... - Touch CDMA General

Ok, I've got a Telus touch with a stock rom...
I did a PRL update at the advice of tech. support.
Now my phone is losing time. It's like an old watch with a low battery. I checked it out, it's not the DST issue, and I've turned off time sync... I'm losing like 5 - 25 minute chunks every hour or two.
Anyone have a guess as to what's going on?

Phone won't stay asleep

Hello All:
This is my first post here but just reading around has solved many problems for me already. However, my phone (sprint mogul 8600) has been misbehaving and even a hard reset did not solve this problem.
My problem is that the stupid thing won't stay asleep, ruining my battery life and sanity. Is there a way to set it so that it will only wake on active decisions (incoming text, incoming call) and me pushing the power button? I've cruised option after option but I haven't been able to find anything useful.
It still functions properly when it should wake up, it just seems to wake up every few minutes on my desk and i think i have an incoming something to deal with. In the end I have just stopped paying attention and have missed lots of calls because of it.
My apologies if there is a faq that goes over this already, I looked but could not find.
Thanks in advance
Battery life goes down approximately 50% per 10 hrs because the phone turns on as if someone hit the power button at irregular intervals. Is the phone SUPPOSED to be able to turn on for reasons other than incoming messages or using the power button? Its driving me crazy, I can't even go out for a day because it will run out of battery.
Are you running a custom rom or stock rom? If stock, is the most up to date from your carrier? After you did the hard reset, did you test it before installing any cab files? It's possible one of the apps you are installing may cause this.
If it's the stock rom and you are installing nothing, I would say it's a defective phone.
I know on an old PDA I had years back at midnight every night it would turn on, it would do maintenance on my scheduler and then turn back off, but haven't seen my phone ever do this during normal hours.
BTC
It has to be software on that rom or additional installed by you. If you haven't installed any software you might want to try flashing a custom rom and see if that takes care of it.
i have had the same problems with my ppc6800 and blackjack 2, i think it has to do with the changing networks... on my drive home from mass to maine it will do it in about 5 spots anyways consistantly. in my hotel in mass i get crappy reception and itll do it every now and then. this has been an issue with both phones. bugs the hell outta me on my trip home cus itll light up, then i grab it to figure out why and theres nothing... learned to live with it
I performed a hard reset after continued trouble with this. It will come on at least 1 time per hour, and as often as every 5 minutes, with absolutely nothing done to it short of initial calibration/data entry. It will also do this sitting on my desk, not moving or anything.
I suppose I could try a custom rom, but I fear I am opening pandora's box, as I am told these phones are on backorder if i happen to brick mine. Any recommendations for a new ROM to try?
This is normal.
Is this sufficient problem to get it replaced? A hard reset and nothing else and problem persists.
It's a win mobile "feature" since the early WinCE days. Every Palm-size/WinCE/WinMO device I've owned turned itself on from time to time. Now, it's blamed on network changes, mostly going in and out of EVDO coverage. When these were simple PDA's, it was blamed on internal housekeeping. If you corner a MS rep on the issue, they will blame the hardware and outside software vendors. I never believed them. Either get used to it or buy a device other than a WinMo based, it will never ever be fixed!
BTW, I'm in my basement where I get less than an ideal signal and my Mogul has turned on and off 3 times while I was typing this.
I have my phone sitting next to me in the cradle all night long, 2-3 hours before I go to bed I turn out the lights to either view my laptop easier or watch TV, if my phone was turning on I would know it because I would have bright light in my eyes.
So I would say it's not as common as you described in the 2-3 times while composing the email. Mine might turn on at midnight, tho I am usually asleep by then, so I can't say for sure, but the only time it turns on (that I know of) is when I receive a text message or a phone call. Emails don't wake up my phone. And I get 20-30 emails a day.
I am on a 1X only network, no EVDO here yet, so it could be an issue with EVDO, in my phone settings I have an option for Service Tone, that makes a beeping sound when I lose or regain service, might try turning that on and see if it's beeping when the phone is turning on. If so, it's a signal issue.

I have this problem too and hate it. Every time I come out of the subway the phone turns on in my pocket. I cant drive at night with the phone facing up on the dash because it turns on every couple of mins. It's completely annoying, kills the battery and launches tons of programs, every once in a while it makes calls too. I would be very happy to get this "feature" taken off my phone!
B
WinMo devices turning on all by themselves is the reason there are so many screen lock programs available. If you've got a WM device and plan to carry it in a confined pocket (like your pants) check out S2U2 or throttlelock. Your phone turns on when leaving the subway because it's aquiring a signal, it probably turned on while in the train while searching for signal too. While driving, you're probably passing in and out of 3G coverage which will also turn the device on. If you stay in a solid signal area, the phone will stay off for the most part, but that does negate the whole mobile thing a bit. The center of my basement where my home theater is gets a inconsistant 3G signal. My Mogul will turn on and off and kill the battery in a few hours. My wifes Palm, my friends BB's and iphones won't turn on once. Once again, the issue of WM/PocketPC/WinCE turning on for no apparent reason has been a c ommon complaint for years, at least to the Casio E105 days when I started on my WM journey. Since MS has never addressed the issue, I doubt they ever will.
I have never had the phone random come on from sleep. Leaving and entering coverage doesn't change that. I say you have something in the rom causing the problem or a program running in the background

You've never taken the phone out of a pocket or holster to find it already on? My 6700 on VZW did and I think I ran every ROM developed for it at one time or another, each of my 3 Moguls running various OEM and custom ROM's did/does. I've heard similar complaints from coworkers running various
WM devices. A friend I take the train with daily complained about this with his AT&T Tilt too. Both my non phone Axims (x5 & x51) occasionally turned on as did my Toshiba E805, Casio e100, e105 and e115. Every WinCE based device forum I have participated in over the years has featured complaints about WM turning on with no user interaction. Obviously, it's not a deal breaker for me, but it does happen...a lot. The issue in my basement is the extreme of the problem, move the phone towards the exterior walls and the phone reverts to only turning on and quickly off occasionally. Another example. When traveling by LIRR to Penn Station the phone will stay off even when entering the river tunnel ad traveling under Manhattan. At some point when I exit the station, the phone turns itself on. Since I'm walking in rush hour crowds, I've never tried to find at which exact point my Mogul turns on, but it's always on when I get my coffee in Borders Cafe.
I have never taken it out of my pocket and have it been turned on. It is always in sleep mode.
This also happens to me, i own a mogul, and this is really and extremely annoying.
i have test it for few months and this is my conclusion.
As you guys said already just wait for few min and it will turn on the screen, but also when i shake it and when you hit it.
it really is a battery killer.

If it's turning on when you shake it, you probably have a hardware issue.

HD is off time

It happened virtually the second day I had my HD - I looked at the clock and the time shown was one hour and some minutes off. I did not pay any attention at that time. Since then, I have been synchronising it with my PC, so I guess it was updating its clock automatically. This until today... I did not sync and about midday, I noticed again that the clock was off by more than an hour. Mind you I have thicked the option of it syncing the time from the operator.
Any thoughts? This is really annoying since I rely solely on HD for alarms... especially in the morning.
Thanks in advance
off time...
It happened to me too, twice even. But not on the same
day but days apart. What I discovered was if you use
3G, then the trouble starts. In my place, 3G is unreliable,
and the signal strength goes in and out, and sometimes,
no signal. If no signal, then no time sync with operator.
I switched to GSM and everything is ok again.
Anybody here having problems with late time under 3G??
Interesting observation regarding the 3G connection to time. I usually have it on GSM for battery reasons, but sometimes I switch it to 3G. However, today I believe I had it constantly on GSM... and it did happen. The strangest thing is that it goes off not by minutes but more than one hour (at least in my case). Anybody else with a similar observation?
time inaccurate
Hmmm, I don't have the problem when on GSM at all.
However, I also noticed that if you pullout your phone
from your pocket/bag using the touch screen area instead
of the sides, you automatically activate the time configuration screen area. Maybe this is the cause. Try
observing on how often you grab your phone via the screen
instead of the sides, especially if you are in a hurry or
unaware of it.
I have the same problem with clock. The phohe changes time itself, happened three times to me. Does anyone has the solution to this problem?
I have this issue when I am out of GSM coverage (which sometimes happens when I have the phone with me in the bedroom at night, Orange coverage poor here).
Somewhat annoying to find the clock 30 mins late

suddenly rebooting several times...

hi all,
i have my TD2 now for some months and it already happened several times that it reboots automatically. Not just once, but several times in a row and after 4, 5 or more reboots it comes to the screen to input the pin...
I do not know how this is triggered but it is very annoying!
I use WM6.5 and some user programs like TD2 Tools (2d), MobiReg, NaviComputer, KeePass, Free42 Decimal,...
The TD2 Tools info screen gives: ROM 2.16.404., Manila 2.1.19193517.2, OS Kernel version 5.2.21869
Is this problem known to anybody? Looking forward to your advice!
Not sure what the cause could be but a hard reset mey be the only fix.
Hi,
After 13 months, I'm now getting this spontaneous rebooting for about 4 times on the trot. It can happen mid-call or just whilst it's sat syncing with my PC. The reboot always seems to happen about 10 seconds after Sense has started.
I am on Stock WWE HTC 2.53 and Radio as per below. I haven't changed anything recently but this started happening yesterday. I did think it was connected with my SD card but I've swapped it for another good one of different capacity and no go either.
I have also tried a hard reset. This didn't fix it either as the rebooting started again after about 10 mins. All I had done was reached setting up a partnership and syncing.
I'm worried that my hardware may be damaged, though I don't understand how.
Really worried now.
John
PS My Diamond2 has just rebooted 4 times whilst I type this and it's connected via USB.

I'd have to say that if you've hard reset and are on stock ROM, it would definitely indicate a hardware issue, as if something was triggering the soft reset button. Has the device gotten wet or anything?
Thanks for the reply. No not got wet or anything out of the ordinary. It started just last night whilst it had been sat for about 6 hours plugged into the HTC mains charger.
Looking at it more closely, it seems to happen 5 seconds after the data connection comes up. I guess Sense is checking the weather.
It has done 10 reboots now consecutively but every now and then it just seems to behave. This morning it was fine whilst I was out but it has been having rebooting episodes ever since I go home.
Oh well, I'll wait and see for a while and then panic. No money and the warranty won't be much use after a year........ Hmmmmm going to find the paperwork to check what the warranty actually is.

Try removing your cities in your weather tab and maybe play with your network settings in Phone\Menu\Band
Amazing! I was just about to post that switching to GSM only had stopped the rebooting.
This could only be temporary as I use a lot of HSDPA speed data. I decided to reflash the radio and now it seems fine on 3G. I'll keep an eye on it and report back in 24 hours.
I was thinking back to yesterday. There was a time when the wall charger was unplugged from the wall socket before removing the usb connector from my phone. Could that have caused a spike?
Thanks Bruce for taking an interest and the helpful advice.
Cheers
John
PS Cautiously happy now

It is possible but likely that caused a spike. Shouldn't matter which gets plugged in first, USB or charger.
Hopefully the issue is gone now.
Good luck.
Well, sadly, I spoke too soon.
It was fine all last evening with no reboots and frequent use on 3G.
This morning, after a sitting on standby for 9 hours, it started rebooting as soon as I turned it on to check email. Of course this was where it started downloading the weather as well as email etc.
The switch to GSM stopped it rebooting again, so I now need to confirm this is stable over time and then try further combinations of weather on/off and or older radios. Basically, I'll try anything as I have no choice right now and need the phone, email, web and satnav combination.
My wife has offered to sacrifice her shiny new Blackberry but she has finally joined the mobile email/web brigade and I don't want her to go back to a plain GSM phone. Plus, all my windows software would be written off before I'm ready to do that.
I'll report back if the situation improves although I think it's not going to get any better.
John
Just an update in case it helps anyone else.
On GSM with GPRS data I have had no reboots but shortly after switching to 3G, I end up in the reboot loop.
I have tried new ROM, new radio ROM and new T-Mobile settings. Still the same.
I shall now wait out my contract using GSM until December, at least I can use WiFi at home. I'll then change to something new........ Android, WP7 or even Blackberry!
Thanks for the help. 10ish years of MS pda's have been fun and I've enjoyed playing with ROMs and software but maybe it's time to switch.
John
So, you've flashed back to your stock ROM and with nothing else installed, the rebooting still occurs? Is the stcok ROM pulled from HTC via your S/N?
Progress????
Hi Bruce,
Yes, I have downloaded and tried the original 6.5 ROM and Radio from T-Mobile with the same rebooting problem. Furthermore, I tried some other ROMs before reverting back to the HTC 2.53 WWE - all with the rebooting problem on 3G.
HOWEVER, in doing all this, I noticed it rebooted specifically when the weather connected and downloaded an update. This would happen either manually or automatically.
I have now found that turning Weather updates to manual stops the rebooting UNLESS I actually do a manual update and then it will reboot.
Now, for completeness, I have reverted to the T-Mo 6.5 ROM again and proven that the reboot occurs when the weather is updated either automatically or manually.
This is so confusing as I am effectively replacing ALL the software with a new ROM and Radio but this problem now starts to feel like it is software. Does the weather update do something special on 3G? Something that browsing, Google Maps, email, stocks etc doe not do?
Well, at least I now have 3G...... just no Weather............. SOOOO confusing.
Thanks
John
That is strange. Weather would use the same connection type, just hits a different server.
Also, a typical weather error would only cause Manila to restart or fail to load, not the phone itself.
Flashing the stock ROM would initiate an MTTY Task 29 command that would wipe your flash drive eliminating the possiblility of reminence of a previous flash.
This has me baffled as well.
I found a couple of posts from other devices and it appears to be caused by a bad chip...
In my opinion this could be 'the beginning of the end' of the radio chip. My old Mio A701 did almost the same (not reboot but sometimes freeze) and finally it did not recognized any network and any sim-card; several ROMs tested.
Now it stays in my old car for GPS functions.
But maybe you are more lucky than me...

I've found similar on the Desire and HD2 forums too and was wondering if it could be related.
I'm still fine on 3G with no Weather refresh but checked this morning before going out, that actually performing a refresh did still cause a reboot.... and it did.
On arriving at my destination, 20 miles away, I tried the same refresh and it was fine.
At this point, I was starting to think it may be related to location services and my D2 is checking on it's whereabouts (with cell towers, etc) before downloading the local weather.
Interestingly, my home village, where ALL reboots have happened, does have much stronger signal now due to a very recent new cell tower. It was always 3G but now I get all bars all the time and higher bandwidth.
Now just come home, retested and it's fine! Auto Weather updates on 3G, Google Maps, etc...........
I'll keep a watch and let you know what happens next, I'm sure it's only a temporary respite!
Thanks again
John
Almost same problem with mine diamond2. Only most rarely. Sometimes it reboots once in week, sometimes once a day. I couldn't find any situation manually which causes reboot.

Since this episode of getting my Diamond2 back to working on 3G with no reboots and everything switched back on for downloading the weather etc, it has not rebooted once in 10 days.
I'm very happy that it seems to be behaving properly.
Anyway, just a quick update from a now happy again D2 user.

Annoying camera timestamp bug

I will just show you this. yesterday, March 20th, I took several pictures with the time stamp feature. I will show you just two of them.
This
http://www.twitpic.com/4bjzj6
And this
http://www.twitpic.com/4bk4wd
See their time stamps? It keeps jumping back and forth 24 hours!!! The second picture has a March 21st. times tamp.
Annoying. Same settings. GPS on. No phone calls or anything in between. it randomly jumps between dates. Doesn't make any sense.
If somebody knows how to fix the bug pls let me know!
thanks.
(not only that, the Hr. format changed as well!!!!)
Actually it's more of a 12hr difference (not that it makes it any better), but a friend of mine (who also has the EVO) had a similar issue where his time stamps on his text messages were about 12hrs off. Makes sense that anything that relies on the clock would be affected the same way. I say chalk it up to a network issue and if it persists, call Sprint.
Is it still happening? Like said above, its a network issue. Our phones tend to freak on and on around day light savings. Simply update your profile and also go to settings>date&time>uncheck then recheck auto time.

Samsung Focus Battery Drain/Network loss?

I have a Rogers Samsung Focus that is unlocked...
One thing that I noticed is that my battery usually drains significantly in the second half of the day..... (Ex: 1 hour = 8% and I did not touch the phone)
I also noticed that my data connection drops and I need to restart the phone for it to reconnect. Doesn't matter where I am (location) and I use this SIM card in many other phones. Seems to happen every 8-12 hours or so and also seems to cause part of the battery drain.
Any suggestions? I currently have this setup for ADC using the Samsung Tools (with Mango) and have the APN settings "blank".
Thanks for you assistance.
Hey,
I recently did the force update to Mango on my Rogers Samsung Focus - and I have noticed a similar issue. I used to get over 14 hours of battery, regularly receiving/sending emails, texting, etc, but now I'm getting around 10-12 hours if I'm lucky. I'm not doing anything different that I did before - but I also notice that the network will have micro drops - the icon will show "no network" for a moment and then go back to normal....
I've been noticing the micro drops as well, and its only been since the "Samsung update", which includes the newer firmware and radio. I ran the leaked 7720.68 build for quite a while without the issue.
I was somewhat curious if the Rogers ROM had the same issue since the radio and firmware version numbers are different, so its nice to hear that confirmed.
In any case the drop thing only seems to happen when the network is idle, so as long as its not cutting my calls or transfers its not that big of a deal to me. And I love the tap to focus far too much to roll back.
Battery has been mostly consistent, but has been more hungry the last week or so. Probably unrelated in my case though.
