Can anybody help me to open the
GSM Speach on a europeen version of
HTC Shift umPC.
It comes with 3G and GSM data communication only (not speach).
I can see that the software is ready

Mmm, I remember that argument, the one where Olipro and Pawel absolutely, positively guaranteed that the Shift would make voice calls out of the box, and I was saying that it wouldn't..... Anyone know who was correct?

So Pawel. how are the team doing with putting back the vital phone functionality that HTC removed, in their wisdom? I know you haven't been supplied with a Shift yet, but a couple of the team members have.

ok well i have the sprint touch... and i love to slingbox to it. THe sports are really choppy but i mean im getting a 300-500 kpbs connection all the time. So i know the speed is fine. I set motion to high on the settings, but... still its rlly choppy. I heard it was a directdraw problem, and is there anyway to fix it. Possibly on the Slingbox end or? what? or spm program, or a hack to wm6 to make it go to another codec, or just a fix in general for wm6??? anyone???

Back to the topic at hand...
I don't know how the encoding of the slingbox works, and if you can modify the encoding settings, but i managed to stream from via VLC with the following scenario:
My Dreambox -> My PC (VLC Transcoding to qVga) -> Internet -> WiFi -> HTC Herald (VLC Client).
I don't remember the bitrate when i tested it, but my connection at home caps at 256Kb upload, so that means the stream was on a somewhat lower bitrate.
If you can modify the Slingbox encoding settings and play with them, maybe drop the quality somewhat shouldn't you be able to view the stream?
ps. if something above doesn't make sense, i just woke up

lul @ gay..
dude, there's golden era ppc world besides htc stuff, too.
problem is, that usually, htc machines are crap with omap or samsung cpus.
all bout that.
It seems like my (newish) HTC Touch Rom with WM6.1 doesn't use DirectDraws at all.
I did some remote debugging on it, and while I am not a mobile programmer all indications were that this was a sigificant change from WM 6.0. (I.e. call stacks during video playback newer show directDraw, while in the past they did).
Personally I really like my Vogue. It seems to get the most trash talk of all of the HTC's, but it works for my needs tastes better than anything else I have owned.
To be fair, my last phone was back in the WM5 days, so that last statement is not exactly a fair coparison.
I don't know if HTC are following xda-developers.com threads, but I just felt like thank them.
With the 1.66 release, the phone works like a charm for me, and seems to do that for many other peoples as well.
Ok, the 1.66 ROM is the one HD2 should be delivered with in the first place, but now it's here, and it works.
It's easy to compare the stability (specially on a new phone) to Apple iPhones, which kinda works nice out of the box. But there are so many reasons of that. Apple have ONE device, which they have full control over.
Enough about Apple. I think HTC has done a great job with HD2, and now that it works as it should, i'm really excited to see whats next. If it's rumors about WM7 is true, and MS will only let devices with HD2 type specs run it, they might as well get interesting developers making great software and games. We know it's possible, we've already seen some nice OpenGL 2.0 games running on WM devices. We now only need Microsoft to build a decent Marketplace, and get devs on their team.
Htc, Great job!
I also have to say, that my phone worked brilliantly with SEA-WWE-ROM. But until HTC doesn't give out the upgrade to us in Germany, Portugal, the Netherlands and Poland, Czech Republik, Romania, Hong Kong, aso. I won't say "thank you HTC!"...

This is true, but HTC are not alone in releasing technology (software or hardware) to market before it's been fully tested, too many companies rely upon end-users to do the final beta testing. I guess that's commercial pressure for you?
Anyway, 1.66 is definitely a very complete ROM and will probably be the last major release prior to the much anticipated Windows 7.
I've always been happy with my HD2 as it's never given me any great problems, but with this release it's now a very, very good smartphone!

There's a problem with that synopsis. the last message is being displayed in the 'Reply' text entry box, which means you have to delete it letter by letter before you can type your response.
I'm seeing three improvements in 1.66;
1. Keyboard is finally useable, I'm not making so many mistakes now, looks like the sensitivity has been dialled down a bit
2. Responsiveness after switching on and sliding to unlock - thus far no 20 second freeze-ups
3. They've put the task manager into the start menu
So far so good!
and the dutch version is still not availlable yet :-(

I did not know that. I have the sms hotfix with the new sms app version and for me it only selects the last sms. It does not include it in the reply itself. Maybe check some options...

For me, it selects the last message, as you described (which I don't actually like, but hey-ho), but it's not included in the reply. I just tap in the textbox and the message is no longer hilighted.
I've not heard of any options to include the original message in a reply for SMS ever! It'd be a pretty dumb thing to do really, wouldn't it. Has anyone else had this issue?

That's strange. I believe the default behaviour is to hilight the message you're replying to (the one you tapped in the sense message tab).
Anyway, that's off topic.
Big thumbs up for this ROM, so I'm in agreement with the OP on that.
"Thank you HTC"?? -Give me a f'ing brake man...
No way HTC deserves any thanks or credits!! Haha.. For what would that be?? For making their freaking device being able to send SMS more than 3 months into the launch? Not to mention a bunch of other bugs/instability issues and god knows how many new ones may surface with 1.66 (crossing my fingers that's not the case).
And the customer service and updates pipeline isn't much better. Releasing hotfix after hotfix, taking them off again quickly after finding out they screw up more things than they fix. And all with no info to the user about what's going on and what they try to fix other than a nothing-saying pathetic description like "This update will make your life more bright by letting you keep in touch with your loved ones at any time of the day bla bla bla...". HD2 is a device with some impressive hardware specs and HTC definitely deserves some points for that, but in my opinion that's all...
I think if there is any message that should go through to HTC, this should be it!

I'm still happy.
They used a long time for getting it right, BUT they tired many times. They have released two hot fixes, and now a new ROM. I believe the reason for sms stucs were complex, since it was so sporadic who got the issue.
Every time i've mailed HTC customer service, i've got an answer the same day.
I still salute HTC!

Nice, those conversations. Always something to interpret in one way or the other. Let us assume the HD2 doesn't get an upgrade for WM 7, then what? They cannot provide any information about that because of enclosure agreements? No, that's impossible So..... HD2 definitely gets an upgrade LOL

Because of the 'With HTC Sense'? Yeah that would be failure. Maybe just wright the word 'NOT' with a pen. 'With HTC Sense. NOT' xD
Anyway, from what I am reading it is clear that they are thinking about what to do with the HD2 regarding WinMo7. I think HTC will make some kind of new 'Sense' interface for WM7. MicroSoft just wants to sell the first Windows Phone 7 Series without to much 'Sense/TouchWiz' etc. To give the HTC HD2 owners a custom WM7 version with some kind of Sense on top would not effect them that much I think. And, again, we HD2 owners would be a good 'test' for them to see how Sense + WM7 works out.
Or else, during a meeting somebody goes 'you know what, let's just stop thinking about it. We are giving them 6.5.3. That's enough. The e-mail guys will get payed double this month to reply to all the hate messages'.

For example finally fw version without annoying bugs I hope.
But anyway I really feel like something is cooking because for our region there is still no 1.66 version almost month after released everywhere else.
1.Maybe because it makes no sense for them to port the bugfixes for our region when some bigger upgrade is coming (like 6.5.x?) or …
2. they are just do not care about our stupid problems to use their devices.
I hope it is No.1

Or not considering MS requires the OSs' home screen to be intact bar any OEM customization. Basically that means the screen as we've seen it will stay as is but HTC will likely add custom 'live tile's such as weather or stocks and change the 'default' colors.
Does anyone else have issues understanding the woman's voice on your HD2?
She sounds like a mentally challenged person from India (sorry to be so politically incorrect, but there's no other example I can come up with).
Is there anything I can do to change how she sounds or am I stuck not being able to understand hardly anything she says?
I'm from India...and she doesn't understand what i say most of the times, I have to speak with an American accent for her to understand me. So i bet she's not Indian and yeah, what you said was offensive.

ok....if you have a windows OS on your PC....you can use text to speech(Control Panel--->speech--->somewhere in there) and practice hearing the woman speak out whatever you type. Then you should get used to understanding the woman on the HD2. I guess that would help.

lolerskates, there used to be a tweak I used on my TP2 that would slow the voice down and make it easier to understand (not a whole lot, but enough for me)...however it was part of the settings tool built just for that phone, and I haven't yet seen something like that for the HD2. But that's what I would start looking for in your case, the tweak or regedit (probably won't be a cab) that slows down the MSVC voice...I'm guessing it would work across platforms if you just knew the reg entry it changes.
