I don't know if HTC are following xda-developers.com threads, but I just felt like thank them.
With the 1.66 release, the phone works like a charm for me, and seems to do that for many other peoples as well.
Ok, the 1.66 ROM is the one HD2 should be delivered with in the first place, but now it's here, and it works.
It's easy to compare the stability (specially on a new phone) to Apple iPhones, which kinda works nice out of the box. But there are so many reasons of that. Apple have ONE device, which they have full control over.
Enough about Apple. I think HTC has done a great job with HD2, and now that it works as it should, i'm really excited to see whats next. If it's rumors about WM7 is true, and MS will only let devices with HD2 type specs run it, they might as well get interesting developers making great software and games. We know it's possible, we've already seen some nice OpenGL 2.0 games running on WM devices. We now only need Microsoft to build a decent Marketplace, and get devs on their team.
Htc, Great job!
I also have to say, that my phone worked brilliantly with SEA-WWE-ROM. But until HTC doesn't give out the upgrade to us in Germany, Portugal, the Netherlands and Poland, Czech Republik, Romania, Hong Kong, aso. I won't say "thank you HTC!"...

This is true, but HTC are not alone in releasing technology (software or hardware) to market before it's been fully tested, too many companies rely upon end-users to do the final beta testing. I guess that's commercial pressure for you?
Anyway, 1.66 is definitely a very complete ROM and will probably be the last major release prior to the much anticipated Windows 7.
I've always been happy with my HD2 as it's never given me any great problems, but with this release it's now a very, very good smartphone!

There's a problem with that synopsis. the last message is being displayed in the 'Reply' text entry box, which means you have to delete it letter by letter before you can type your response.
I'm seeing three improvements in 1.66;
1. Keyboard is finally useable, I'm not making so many mistakes now, looks like the sensitivity has been dialled down a bit
2. Responsiveness after switching on and sliding to unlock - thus far no 20 second freeze-ups
3. They've put the task manager into the start menu
So far so good!
and the dutch version is still not availlable yet :-(

I did not know that. I have the sms hotfix with the new sms app version and for me it only selects the last sms. It does not include it in the reply itself. Maybe check some options...

For me, it selects the last message, as you described (which I don't actually like, but hey-ho), but it's not included in the reply. I just tap in the textbox and the message is no longer hilighted.
I've not heard of any options to include the original message in a reply for SMS ever! It'd be a pretty dumb thing to do really, wouldn't it. Has anyone else had this issue?

That's strange. I believe the default behaviour is to hilight the message you're replying to (the one you tapped in the sense message tab).
Anyway, that's off topic.
Big thumbs up for this ROM, so I'm in agreement with the OP on that.
"Thank you HTC"?? -Give me a f'ing brake man...
No way HTC deserves any thanks or credits!! Haha.. For what would that be?? For making their freaking device being able to send SMS more than 3 months into the launch? Not to mention a bunch of other bugs/instability issues and god knows how many new ones may surface with 1.66 (crossing my fingers that's not the case).
And the customer service and updates pipeline isn't much better. Releasing hotfix after hotfix, taking them off again quickly after finding out they screw up more things than they fix. And all with no info to the user about what's going on and what they try to fix other than a nothing-saying pathetic description like "This update will make your life more bright by letting you keep in touch with your loved ones at any time of the day bla bla bla...". HD2 is a device with some impressive hardware specs and HTC definitely deserves some points for that, but in my opinion that's all...
I think if there is any message that should go through to HTC, this should be it!

I'm still happy.
They used a long time for getting it right, BUT they tired many times. They have released two hot fixes, and now a new ROM. I believe the reason for sms stucs were complex, since it was so sporadic who got the issue.
Every time i've mailed HTC customer service, i've got an answer the same day.
I still salute HTC!

Today they emailed me a "change" in their terms and conditions, and linked to a lengthy Ts&Cs page. Trouble is, they don't highlight what has changed and I have no patience to re-read the entire thing.
Same here, new contract, don't you hate it when they do that, I always feel like they are trying to hide something by sending the entire contract without pointing out exactly what has been added or changed! Perhaps it's just paranoia on my part <twitch>
I am hoping that the wait for the new O2 rom will mean we will all be pleasantly suprised at it's content, but don't hold your breath. I can just see it now on XDA Developers when it is released... "Why did we have to wait so long for this new ROM, it's crap!"
Oh well, figers crossed
Regards
There is a new build currently in test, based on the 1.30 ROM and 1.09 Radio stack. It will be without A2DP functionality.

Pretty good, screen switching is faster than O2, phone signal seems pretty stable. Can't comment on the memory leak issues, because I'm not sure when the memory is being used for cache or when it is really leaked.
WiFi network finder has some nice changes, LIST of available networks now shows signal strength too, and alarms now have a "dismiss until 5 mins before event" thing - neat!
Thanks Doody, I think I'll give it a go tonight.

Hello
Just to let everyone know I was on the phone to tech support yesterday and the rather informed lad I was speaking to was saying that SMS hotfix to sort out the bag lag and non sending issue will be released in 10 to 14 days. Also the 1.48 ROM is not on the HTC site because its not an official release or fix in any way he said.

10 - 14 days? Seriously? I was hoping that the thread title, 'just around the corner' would have led to an announcement of , Monday/ Tuesday of next week.
Shocking and very disappointed
... but very good to know that they have/are developing a solution for this issue as it tends to have hit alot of units (not mine...?).
Thanks!
around the corner?! they said the same thing for about a week or two.
Welcome news, even for those of us who haven't experienced the problem yet. 10-14 days sounds about right to me. Bug fixes for platforms like this have to be rock solid. Not like a patch for a pc game for example, where users are used to continually updating or rolling back versions.
This is good news, and I can wait. Let's face it - I don't have a choice.
I do think that 10-14 days is quite long though. Coming from a software background, that sounds reasonable, but we know that HTC don't actually test their software, so it should be about 4 days
Just kidding. I <3 HTC!!

It's never been officialy released by HTC. It was "leaked".
I just wanted to download the camera fix from htc.co.uk, and recognized a very interesting sentence: "This update is only applicable to ROM version is equal to 1.60.XXX.X, or lower"
So, shall we expact that HTC is working on an official ROM, which includes the camera-fix and has a version-number > 1.60 ???

I am following the WMDev team on twitter and have asked questions about a possible upgrade path to win7...
I have just received a message back from HTC after I asked if there were going to be Reader & Document tabs in any upcoming ROM upgrades.
Here is the response;

Because of the 'With HTC Sense'? Yeah that would be failure. Maybe just wright the word 'NOT' with a pen. 'With HTC Sense. NOT' xD
Anyway, from what I am reading it is clear that they are thinking about what to do with the HD2 regarding WinMo7. I think HTC will make some kind of new 'Sense' interface for WM7. MicroSoft just wants to sell the first Windows Phone 7 Series without to much 'Sense/TouchWiz' etc. To give the HTC HD2 owners a custom WM7 version with some kind of Sense on top would not effect them that much I think. And, again, we HD2 owners would be a good 'test' for them to see how Sense + WM7 works out.
Or else, during a meeting somebody goes 'you know what, let's just stop thinking about it. We are giving them 6.5.3. That's enough. The e-mail guys will get payed double this month to reply to all the hate messages'.

But anyway I really feel like something is cooking because for our region there is still no 1.66 version almost month after released everywhere else.
1.Maybe because it makes no sense for them to port the bugfixes for our region when some bigger upgrade is coming (like 6.5.x?) or …
2. they are just do not care about our stupid problems to use their devices.
I hope it is No.1

Or not considering MS requires the OSs' home screen to be intact bar any OEM customization. Basically that means the screen as we've seen it will stay as is but HTC will likely add custom 'live tile's such as weather or stocks and change the 'default' colors.
Just a thought has HTC moved the interests to Android because they have just announced the HTC Wildfire and every month a new fone seams to be out but we are stuck with probs on our amazing HD2. Why don't they spend time fixing these before releasing new phones
Any Ideas people??????????????????????????????
at this moment in time i would say yes, at least until windows phone 7 is released then they will probably switch back to that and android. HTC will still release rom updates and hotfixes for the HD2 but it won't be that often.
It's not that they don't care..they did just recently release an update. But the reason they keep releasing phones instead of focusing on the ones already out is pretty simple. They're a business, a mobile phone business, and they want to make money.
HTC has a leg up on just about every other mobile phone manufacturer thanks to this site. htc devices never seem to "Suck". but since win phone 7 wont be skinable or very customizable from what i have read. then maybe htc will be more android oriented. id love to see sence from winmo ported over. as for updates. HTC seems to make important ones, but dont knock um. most other smartphones dont even get a lot of updates. in my experience, i have never had an HTC device with a problem for to long. longest was my HD2 wich had a data issue. that didnt last to long
that was a big point, why i bought the hd2 and didnt wait for another phone. i have the feeling that the hd2 is the last "best winmo phone" from htc. i dont think they make a better winmo 6.5 phone till wp7...
they want to make the customer feel good with a htc phone, and a customer doesnt feel good when his phone crashes often and runs slowly...
not only xda members buy htc phones, and android just feels better when u dont know how to set up ur phone
I can understand what you lot are saying and i am very happy with my HD2 apart from the text messageing app problem that thay have bin told about loads of time even from me but they are not doing anything about that is my problem

I got tired of waiting for HTC to address this major fault. Resco Contact has what I think is by far the best SMS software. You can install Resco Contact (I purchased it a couple of years ago but you can download a trial) and then just put a link to the SMS part of the program. It works fine for me. Hope this helps.
HTC has a long history of nice looking devices but poor support, 6 months at best is all you can count on from them before they move on. Short answer, yes and contrary to others who think HTC will put all their expertise behind WP7 I think we will see lacklustre efforts from them as they focus even more on android.
I'm really hoping that if they give up on 6.5x version of Sense, they will release files here to allow cookers and mods the chance to keep this phone ticking over. I bought this phone with the hope that Sense would improve (e.g. Facebook tab, RSS reader, Video browser (to launch with CorePlayer) etc. etc) - however, I'm worried we've seen the last of this great interface (on WM6.5)

I didn't like the 6.5.x texting to start with, but to be honest I am so used to it now it really doesn't bother me.
i go from kumar classic 2.0 to the new tmobile rom? i hear some.people love it and some hate it.
any advice?
test it out, but a lot of cooks are implementing the new 2.13 base into their new roms.
Normally I can't stand stock ROMS, but I just got a HD2 and it shipped with the new ROM and I actually like it.
ETA: This is also the first time GPS has just worked for me. Like 3 second lock times. I remember pulling up Bing and then thinking I would have to download that nearly monochrome GPS Test program, and then wait 20 minutes. And bam, it had my location already. It seems like everything I need just works. I would have definitely switched if they didn't actually fix the SMS client. Energyroms used to use that awful designed-by-monkeys message client--wait, nevermind, that's an insult to the monkeys. Anyway, who designs a message client that tries to load 100 (Did I even get to 100 messages before it was unusable?) at the same time? Did this lonely programmer have no friends they could text and see how it didn't work beyond 20 messages? Did they expect people to routinely purge their messages?
Dare I say the current client's good? I'm glad I actually tried it out as this is the first time since Sense's entire existence where I actually don't hate the HTC messaging client with this seething rage.
