Anyway to fix the DirectDraw problem on WM6 phones!!!! - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

ok well i have the sprint touch... and i love to slingbox to it. THe sports are really choppy but i mean im getting a 300-500 kpbs connection all the time. So i know the speed is fine. I set motion to high on the settings, but... still its rlly choppy. I heard it was a directdraw problem, and is there anyway to fix it. Possibly on the Slingbox end or? what? or spm program, or a hack to wm6 to make it go to another codec, or just a fix in general for wm6??? anyone???

Either stop winging about it and accept that HTC have got a number of things wrong or go and get something else!!

Um, you can mod the iPhone and it's amazing. Blows my slow Tilt away. Glad I use both cause this Tilt is the size and shape of what its almost good for. Paper weight!

Back to the topic at hand...
I don't know how the encoding of the slingbox works, and if you can modify the encoding settings, but i managed to stream from via VLC with the following scenario:
My Dreambox -> My PC (VLC Transcoding to qVga) -> Internet -> WiFi -> HTC Herald (VLC Client).
I don't remember the bitrate when i tested it, but my connection at home caps at 256Kb upload, so that means the stream was on a somewhat lower bitrate.
If you can modify the Slingbox encoding settings and play with them, maybe drop the quality somewhat shouldn't you be able to view the stream?
ps. if something above doesn't make sense, i just woke up

lul @ gay..
dude, there's golden era ppc world besides htc stuff, too.
problem is, that usually, htc machines are crap with omap or samsung cpus.
all bout that.

It seems like my (newish) HTC Touch Rom with WM6.1 doesn't use DirectDraws at all.
I did some remote debugging on it, and while I am not a mobile programmer all indications were that this was a sigificant change from WM 6.0. (I.e. call stacks during video playback newer show directDraw, while in the past they did).
Personally I really like my Vogue. It seems to get the most trash talk of all of the HTC's, but it works for my needs tastes better than anything else I have owned.
To be fair, my last phone was back in the WM5 days, so that last statement is not exactly a fair coparison.

Fish in Water Application for Touch Diamond

Hi,
A friend with an iphone showed me an application that got me well impressed..
The applications shows several different types of fish swimming in the water..
Taping the screen was like dipping your finger in water and shaking it..... quality sound and picture... this also made the fish scamper...
Is there a similar application for the HTC diamond? i know its totally useless but would be an awesome show-off application..
beany
That would be a very cool app.
An aquarium to "carry away" ;D
Thats already discussed under G-Sensor applications.. If someone could make something like it.. it would be cool
i remember seeing the sony xpedia demo... has a similar app...
when it launches hopefully someone can export the cab
This is what i so on the iphone:
http://www.palluxo.com/2008/08/25/koi-pond-app-virtual-fish-pond-for-iphone-and-ipod-touch/

i'ts actually an X1 home screen not just an app. The fish not only follow your touch on the screen, but also alert to notifications such as missed call's etc (if i remember correctly the fish changes colour to show missed calls / bluetooth on etc - but don't hold me to this)

WM 6.1 ROM

Exist any WM6.1 ROM for HTC Dream ? Please dont ask me why I need this.
Thanks.
No, not going to happen, been asked many, many, many times already.
why not ? where is the problem to cook non official ROM ?
For one, its a waste of a perfectly good phone to put that CRAP on it. If you want a piece of crap, buy a piece of crap.
Second, the required drivers simply don't exist.
What do you men crap ? OK, the second explanation is better.
I think lbcoder got it right. windows mobile IS Junk. I have a Kaiser in addition to the G1. The Kaiser has great hardware minus the KB, small screen, and quiet speaker, but it has a horrific OS e.g. It's slow, locks up, restarts itself for no reason.
The G1 however has a great OS that needs little or no changing at all, but dumbed down hardware.

Bottom line is if you want WinMo, buy a WinMo phone. Most of the hackers working on HTC Dream are working on Android.

Now that I think about it; I sure wouldn't mind the ability to dual boot. Not even sure why but maybe just for that hell of it.
Makes no sense
I had the T-mobile Dash before the G1 and wound up giving the dash to my wife. I was helping her learn to use it and only then did I realise how goofy the setup of it all is. They say the beauty of it is that it tries to emulate the Windows experience, but if my desktop worked like that...I'ld have a mac.

New HD2 & No BBC iPlayer WTF

ok so I've been a winmo user since inception and have resisted the urge to go iphone
i held off for the HD2 but finally got it a few days ago. Its nice and smooth but where is the wow after a couple of hours use? wheres the cool new stuff ?
I thought lets try some video playback...thought BBC iPlayer
no i Player...so I trawl posts to find hacks and other programs to use. half an hour later ....then I'm thinking WTF...its a dam new phone and here I am having to f*%k around with it straight out the box
WTF is wrong with HTC....I mean surely they could have got off your lazy dumb arses and got some decent new fresh apps put on their premium device for launch by operators
Its not exactly that the BBC is a minow.
And what the hell is wrong with the operators taking ****ty product again from HTC. (Vodafone gave HTC a chance...sure Iphone is more profitable but I'm sure it didnt help with a crap release ROM...why put up with up when there is other products you can sell without the hassle). I'm not asking HTC to get it right with every phone but this is your premium device FFS
HTC need to employ people that live in the real world not Asia where if it dont work it dont matter
I for one will have no sympathy if HTC fail
Haha, why didnt you bu an iphone? BBC iplayer, muahahahahha.
I think you should buy iphone and get off this forum!
no idea why you're blaming HTC for iPlayer not working, BBC need to add support for the HD2 in order for it to work straight out of the box
This is the fix;
36. Get BBC iPlayer Mobile Website Working on HD2
The current Opera 9.7 version on the HD2 is not detected by the BBC iplayer website. Here is a modifcation to Opera preferences you can do to get it to work.
HLKM/Software/Opera/Prefs/User Prefs/Custom User-Agent
Change from HTC_HD2_T8585 Opera/9.7 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en) to HTC_Touch_HD_T8282 Now go to http://bbc.co.uk/mobile/iplayer. Videos are opened in your Streaming App on your phone.
which is located in this thread.
You will need a Registry Editor which is also in the same thread.
Hope this helps
So because a device doesn't support iPlayer out of the box, it sucks ?
Nice logic.

Any way in the first place, before buying anything, he should read and get info of the haves and no haves of the current devise.

It aint the BBC's job to predict every phone coming to the market ?
Its the phone manufacturers responsibility to work with content providers so that the phone manufacturers product is released with compatible software

It is the BBC's resposibility to add iPlayer support for new mobile devices NOT HTC's. I guarantee you that HTC DID contact the BBC to let them know about the HD2 way before it got released. However... there isnt much HTC can do to speed up the BBC process of adding support to iPlayer.

Resolution differences and different applications used for streaming content.... plus all the different variants of windows mobile itself.
I've tried the opera fix in the past, but the result is terrible. the video playback was so choppy, and then mostly green blurs etc. I can understand that if you're streaming 3G, but not if using your using wifi.

to me its HTC with insufficient resources...if they stopped making 3000 other phones maybe they would have just sat down and defined core software that was a must have for release ROM
then you just get the job done....anyone can see its the premium device competing with iphone so why wouldnt both HTC and BBC get it right
unless there is evidence to the contary, HTC decided it wasnt core for release...which is just poor when its their premium product
the phone had been about for a while being reveiwed before it was released, gave the bbc plenty of time to get an application for their system out, it isnt upto htc to release applications for sites

Yes, this is a hard decision. But I truly love portrait KB. I can type with two hands or one depending on the situation. I don't need super wide keys.
I have had two BB Pearls in the past, and when I had them I thought the landscape KB was going to be awesome. I have had a G1 now for two years with it's landscape KB. I develop iPhone apps, among other things, so with it's virtual KB and the android KB (iPhone sucks without swype lol) I have logged many hours with all the KB types.
Some messages or responses are long, some medium, and some short. With a portrait Slide KB I can use whatever medium I want.
Wow, and the Dell is sexy as hell.
So HD7 has 4.3 inch screen and Dell has 4.1. I'm still leaning towards the Dell

I'm all for apps that look good but the HTC apps on WP7 don't really seem to serve much purpose at all. The animations take forever and there's lots more usable ways of implementing them.
May be for now htc hub is useless but later may be there is application added by htc that make differance
The Question is .. is all Hubs developed by companies can be easily move from one device to other company device
i liked the Dell device as well, but in a long run i will stick to the HD7 and for the first time in a long time i will be using a phone with out a physical keyboard.....
i will rather have a HTC device then any other as i like to try the goddies from XDA gods (chefs)...
and dell is not selling in Asia anyway... maybe as a second phone i will get the venue pro...
Having had an HD2 for a while and a Touch Pro before that, oh and a TyTn before that, I think HTC's software is just bloaty eye-candy at best.
The app store will cover everything you need anyway.
I like the weather app and the equalizer.. wouldn't mind having them on my Venue Pro.
The Dell Venue Pro would have been perfect (for me) if it had:
1) HTC Locations (/ maps)
2) HTCSense.com functionality
3) Flash (as per the HTC Desire HD)
All Windows Phones have HTCSense.com functionality built in... MyPhone
so, we won't be able to get it.
i'm sure there must be a way to unpack it from the rom and make a (how are the cab's called now?)...

I'd say it was moved from the Dev general forum because you asked about a specific device...
Maybe you could start a new thread in the Dev general (or Win7 Dev) asking about the possibility of extracting the Sense stuff and getting it onto other non-HTC WP7 devices?
yeah but what is the file structure like in comparison to venue pro? Is the application hw or sw based? and how do we recompile the container to install on our side?
we may need a jailbreak =/
I'm only guessing, but I'd say it's only software based and will work on pretty much any WP7 device if it can be pulled from an HTC one.
