ok so I've been a winmo user since inception and have resisted the urge to go iphone
i held off for the HD2 but finally got it a few days ago. Its nice and smooth but where is the wow after a couple of hours use? wheres the cool new stuff ?
I thought lets try some video playback...thought BBC iPlayer
no i Player...so I trawl posts to find hacks and other programs to use. half an hour later ....then I'm thinking WTF...its a dam new phone and here I am having to f*%k around with it straight out the box
WTF is wrong with HTC....I mean surely they could have got off your lazy dumb arses and got some decent new fresh apps put on their premium device for launch by operators
Its not exactly that the BBC is a minow.
And what the hell is wrong with the operators taking ****ty product again from HTC. (Vodafone gave HTC a chance...sure Iphone is more profitable but I'm sure it didnt help with a crap release ROM...why put up with up when there is other products you can sell without the hassle). I'm not asking HTC to get it right with every phone but this is your premium device FFS
HTC need to employ people that live in the real world not Asia where if it dont work it dont matter
I for one will have no sympathy if HTC fail
Haha, why didnt you bu an iphone? BBC iplayer, muahahahahha.
I think you should buy iphone and get off this forum!
no idea why you're blaming HTC for iPlayer not working, BBC need to add support for the HD2 in order for it to work straight out of the box
This is the fix;
36. Get BBC iPlayer Mobile Website Working on HD2
The current Opera 9.7 version on the HD2 is not detected by the BBC iplayer website. Here is a modifcation to Opera preferences you can do to get it to work.
HLKM/Software/Opera/Prefs/User Prefs/Custom User-Agent
Change from HTC_HD2_T8585 Opera/9.7 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en) to HTC_Touch_HD_T8282 Now go to http://bbc.co.uk/mobile/iplayer. Videos are opened in your Streaming App on your phone.
which is located in this thread.
You will need a Registry Editor which is also in the same thread.
Hope this helps
So because a device doesn't support iPlayer out of the box, it sucks ?
Nice logic.

do a search for myplayer. This is a nice little app that allows you to stream or download high quality Iplayer content to your phone for later viewing. App can also be found on HTCPedia.com under the apps section. It also supports ITV, CH4 etc etc

I can see, by the way this guy wrote, there was no one sentences with out ading street words.
Any way in the first place, before buying anything, he should read and get info of the haves and no haves of the current devise.

Lets say HTC plan a new phone release....whos job is it to contact BBC with the device and get it compatible for release rom ?
It aint the BBC's job to predict every phone coming to the market ?
Its the phone manufacturers responsibility to work with content providers so that the phone manufacturers product is released with compatible software

I'm quite capable of searching
apple = designed in california, made in china
HTC = designed in asia, made in asia
and it shows
Apple release 2 phones and sell it to the masses
HTC release 2 many phones and struggle for mass appeal
Dont get me wrong....I've never owned an apple product ...not even a ipod!
I'm no HTC hater either...just wish they would slow down...

It is the BBC's resposibility to add iPlayer support for new mobile devices NOT HTC's. I guarantee you that HTC DID contact the BBC to let them know about the HD2 way before it got released. However... there isnt much HTC can do to speed up the BBC process of adding support to iPlayer.

Resolution differences and different applications used for streaming content.... plus all the different variants of windows mobile itself.
I've tried the opera fix in the past, but the result is terrible. the video playback was so choppy, and then mostly green blurs etc. I can understand that if you're streaming 3G, but not if using your using wifi.

to me its HTC with insufficient resources...if they stopped making 3000 other phones maybe they would have just sat down and defined core software that was a must have for release ROM
then you just get the job done....anyone can see its the premium device competing with iphone so why wouldnt both HTC and BBC get it right
unless there is evidence to the contary, HTC decided it wasnt core for release...which is just poor when its their premium product
the phone had been about for a while being reveiwed before it was released, gave the bbc plenty of time to get an application for their system out, it isnt upto htc to release applications for sites

Possibly on the Slingbox end or? what? or spm program, or a hack to wm6 to make it go to another codec, or just a fix in general for wm6??? anyone???

Back to the topic at hand...
I don't know how the encoding of the slingbox works, and if you can modify the encoding settings, but i managed to stream from via VLC with the following scenario:
My Dreambox -> My PC (VLC Transcoding to qVga) -> Internet -> WiFi -> HTC Herald (VLC Client).
I don't remember the bitrate when i tested it, but my connection at home caps at 256Kb upload, so that means the stream was on a somewhat lower bitrate.
If you can modify the Slingbox encoding settings and play with them, maybe drop the quality somewhat shouldn't you be able to view the stream?
ps. if something above doesn't make sense, i just woke up

It seems like my (newish) HTC Touch Rom with WM6.1 doesn't use DirectDraws at all.
I did some remote debugging on it, and while I am not a mobile programmer all indications were that this was a sigificant change from WM 6.0. (I.e. call stacks during video playback newer show directDraw, while in the past they did).
Personally I really like my Vogue. It seems to get the most trash talk of all of the HTC's, but it works for my needs tastes better than anything else I have owned.
To be fair, my last phone was back in the WM5 days, so that last statement is not exactly a fair coparison.
I have just received a message back from HTC after I asked if there were going to be Reader & Document tabs in any upcoming ROM upgrades.

Nice, those conversations. Always something to interpret in one way or the other. Let us assume the HD2 doesn't get an upgrade for WM 7, then what? They cannot provide any information about that because of enclosure agreements? No, that's impossible So..... HD2 definitely gets an upgrade LOL

Because of the 'With HTC Sense'? Yeah that would be failure. Maybe just wright the word 'NOT' with a pen. 'With HTC Sense. NOT' xD
Anyway, from what I am reading it is clear that they are thinking about what to do with the HD2 regarding WinMo7. I think HTC will make some kind of new 'Sense' interface for WM7. MicroSoft just wants to sell the first Windows Phone 7 Series without to much 'Sense/TouchWiz' etc. To give the HTC HD2 owners a custom WM7 version with some kind of Sense on top would not effect them that much I think. And, again, we HD2 owners would be a good 'test' for them to see how Sense + WM7 works out.
Or else, during a meeting somebody goes 'you know what, let's just stop thinking about it. We are giving them 6.5.3. That's enough. The e-mail guys will get payed double this month to reply to all the hate messages'.

But anyway I really feel like something is cooking because for our region there is still no 1.66 version almost month after released everywhere else.
1.Maybe because it makes no sense for them to port the bugfixes for our region when some bigger upgrade is coming (like 6.5.x?) or …
2. they are just do not care about our stupid problems to use their devices.
I hope it is No.1

Or not considering MS requires the OSs' home screen to be intact bar any OEM customization. Basically that means the screen as we've seen it will stay as is but HTC will likely add custom 'live tile's such as weather or stocks and change the 'default' colors.
Hey I am new to flashing. I have changed the roms on g1's, and on the nexus one per different youtube vidoes and stuff i have read in this forum.
Yesterday i purchased the HD2 and to my horror found out that it was running on Windows Mobile (WTF). So i have been loking around and I saw that in the past the forum has been able to get Touch Pro 2 that run on WM6.5 to dual boot into android.
So I am hoping that the same can be done with the HD2. So is the HSPL2 listed in this forum the beginning steps to this process or what? Has anyone yet setup the HD2 to run on android?
I know this is wordy but I just want to make it understood that I am new and I want to learn and that I have the desire to get android on my HD2.
thanks any suggested reading is welcome as the steps to get android on this awesome phone that HTC FUBAR'd with WM6.5

No, it's not quite there at this time. However, while I understand your opinion, I don't think HTC "FUBAR'd" at all. I've had a few Android devices and this phone is AMAZING, even with WM.
this has been discussed already at length.. if you look in the ROMS section of the forum you'll find it ..
And it is NOT going to happen soon..
Android on the HD2 will be amazing! Hopefully they can get it ported by summer to compete with the HTC EVO.

There is an engineer at the local Tmobile call center dual booting Android and winmo. He runs Android off of the card itself. The phone that is dual booting is at the kiosk at the LaPlaza mall in Mcallen TX and has been used as their demo phone.
How is he doing it? I have no idea, but hes told myself and a Tmobile sales buddy that he'll help us out with it.

You're saying he's booting android on a hd2? I doubt it. Are you sure its not a TP2? There is an andriod port for the TP2.
I'm not sure how you purchased the phone without knowing the underlying OS, but I'm guessing you bought it in the US for Tmobile. If that is the case, and I'm guessing it is, then you can't flash any ROMs for it yet because of the different SPL.

I seriously doubt this. Maybe you had it confused with an HD or a TP2, but I doubt xda wouldn't know about this...especially since it's most likely to originate here. A picture to prove this would be great, but I don't expect it.

News to me! I've seen it running on other devices, but even then it's beta, with various functionality still unavailable, WIFI etc.
If you wanted Android, a little research before hand should and would have been wise, i.e. waiting for the EVO to be released.
I like WinMo 6.5. It may not be as pretty as Android or iPhone OS (without the Sense gui which is quite lovely imho) but it's a very versatile and an incredibly powerful tool in the hands of the right user. If you're in a business environment, using Microsoft equipment, exchange servers etc, there is not an more efficient handheld device to carry in you pocket (again, imho).
Great news for me at least as it seems that WP7 on the HD2 is alive and well. Here is a video showing it booting up fairly similar to how we boot up android. It has not been released yet but from the new on this website it is not far off. I assure you it is all very legit and will be here soon. I used google chrome to visit these sites as it auto translates so let the actual countdown begin. this is exciting for me at least as I think HD2 was and still is the best mobile HTC ever made. this thing runs Android, WM6.5 and WP7!

Yead and they it will be available by end of the next week... in our dreams of course...
SO when ?!
So when finally we can use one of these WP7 ?!?
it is taking much more than I expected !
yeah it seems to be working, but seems also quite slow/sluggish compared to, say, the hd7. maybe it's due to the boot from sd
howcome in the video the IE tile has nice graphics while on all other phones i've seen its flat like all other tiles...?
well i am just happy it still alive and well. it does seem a bit sluggish but it is out there and will be available soon. it boots off microsd like android so there will be flaws. like android however it will work well. seeing that the htc hd7 had a microsd as its internal memory( pictures on the web to confirm) we should be very optimistic to have this running near perfect on HD2

this looks like an old build that's running on the HD2. that's why the IE icon looks different and also that's why it's slower. the newer builds have performance improvements. let's hope they get the final build running on it too.

what would that mean? how different are these prototypes hardwarewise? if it can run on one of these, does that mean it can run on retail units?

Sure they'll get it sorted to go to the masses (us) now if they could only find a way of getting it to run from phone and not MicroSD we really would be laughing .
An Arsenal fan living in Liverpool bet you didn't know if to laugh or cry today hey .
The Pool did us a massive favour today good on 'em .

welcome to xda.
to answer you question, no there is no wp7 rom available for hd2. there are themes that emulate it.
additionally, this has been asked with new threads about it quite a bit...please do use the search function.
again, welcome.
Wow...awesome answer! Saved me the trouble
Really?
I saw a video over on BGR website showing a working port of windows phone 7 on an HD2 Here is the link if you want to check it out, but I would love Windows phone 7 on my HD2 if at all possible.

We have all seen that video, and it's currently unknown if that is real, or just an emulator image...because it certainly isn't RTM, nor are the chinese releaseing the image to anyone.

Looks legit running side by side with the HTC Surround though doesn't it? I guess it could be black magic.

Really because to my knowledge XDA China is responsible for the port and video,...Guess I could be wrong...I always am according to the wife LOL
Right, but XDA China is in no way affiliated with XDA-Developers, and the chinese are not releaseing any information on their "port" until, according to their words, "enough people are mad enough that it's not out yet". So yeah, personally I think it's fake.
In another thread, another Chinese guy called the number from the video a couple times and talked to the maker of the video. First he said that if the rom was flashed, there was no way of going back to winmo... then the last time he talked to him he said something about it being false.
What I heard, and what I believe to be true now, is that the Chinese got whole of one of the wp7 test hd2s that m$ used to test and develop wp7. Its well known they used hd2 to test in the early stages, and it doesn't surprise me that one of these devices surfaced. Unfortunately, I have a feeling we will never know for sure what was used for the video. I think we're still a long way away from using wp7 on our hd2.

Now that makes total sense, I can see how that could have unfolded.
