This is COOL, did you know... You can simultaneously use Vista & WinMO? - Shift General

Hi Everybody!
I am just loving this SHIFT!!! Thanks for the board, and specifically Paul from MoDaCo... I have finally liberated my CDMA-Shift.
Hey,
I found this out by accident ... I use my Shift via VGA out to my flat screen; and, in doing so, while switching between Vista and SnapVue (errr, WinMo, thanks to Paul). I noticed that the VGA - Monitor keeps the Vista side on, while on the Shift itself, the WinMo displays on the device, therefore, I am able to view (and access) both WinMO and Vista at the same time. This comes in handy when you're a multi-tasker like me.
It's pretty nifty to be able to use your Vista side via VGA out all the while having that ability to have access to WinMO simultaneously.
If you haven't tried it, check it out!

Great, so simple. I liked that idea. I don't k now if it is useful, but it looks cool.

just bought a 37 inch tv. i'm viewing some movies via the shift on it but never tried to swich to snapvue to see what does it do. Anyway it's kind of cool, will try. Now the shift should look like a fancy barebone system on my desk.

If you use it simultaneously, Shift's keyboard and mouse are used for WinMo, and external keyboard and mouse work in Vista.

You can have your vista side connected via HSDPA and your vista via WiFi.
- You could have an IM conversation with yourself!
HTC shift is so inventive. It's like computer lego.
One question, where would the WM sound eminate?

when i'm in my office, i start windows vista and switch to snapvue.
then i connect from my desktop to the shift-vista using remote desktop. so i have snapvue on the shift screen and shift-vista on my desktop (using my desktop monitor, keyboard and mouse)...
this is cool.

VERY COOL INDEED! I am so glad to have discovered this on my Shift. I use it with a wireless keyboard/mouse for the Vista side via external Monitor, while the WinMO/SnapVue side stays up on running, syncing the updates from Outlook.
Now if we can get the SD card to work on the WinMO side!!!

Sounds great, I'd like to have both working at the same time... hehe .. still 4 months to wait to get my shift !! grr.
I don't think SD card could be a good thing for WinMO if it is not a shared ressource. Because readyboost is really interesting and we should keep it on Vista side for that.

Wizard as a Vista Sideshow device?

You'd think it would be built in, but does anyone know if it will be possible to use the Wizard as a Windows Sideshow device in Vista? I got a horizontal dock for this thing just so I'd be able to run a gadget or two on it, but I'm surprised they didn't have it working out of the box ... with the popularity of the Wizard at Microsoft.
A quick search on google shows that there is quite a lot of interest for this.
IMO, it is almost certain this functionality will be added to Windows Mobile devices; lets just hope they don't limit it to WM6 devices.

Very Good idea, I got some old phones with 2.5" LCD working, it is now time to wake them!
um.. install resco photo viewer.. i remember this feature on my hp6515a and after installing resco i have it back!

Sideshow is a technology included with Windows Vista that allows for an external LCD to display widgets, even with the PC powered off. This allows you to see at a glance the weather, if you have e-mail, etc. It's primary use is in tiny LCDs on notebook covers, though if you could use your mobile for this, that would be really neat too.
MS is working on an app that does work on the Wizard, I have used a beta. It was very bugy but it worked.
How about this:
http://www.innobec.com/en/products.php
It adds a virtual display driver to your Windows (XP); this display is an activesync-connected PDA.
I have tried the trial version, and it appears to work (allthough a bit unstable, but I was using a bluetooth connection at the time).

This doesn't work with Active Sync 4.5 and or WM6
looks like they might be scrapping the development of this because of the similar features in vista.

Hah, I hadn't tried it with 4.5; nor does my device have WM6. But in a way it makes sense to stop this functionality. Still, I only recently came across it and thought it could have given some people some ideas.

I wasn't crapping on it, I think it looks cool. I wish it worked for me. I would rather have WM6 than a 320x240 extension to my desktop though. I already have a dual monitor setup.
Sidewindow can be alternative of sideshow but you have to run samurize plugins on that display to look like sideshow. Microsoft states that mobile devices can be used as sideshow with vista, i have tryed many ways and i have no success with this task
I saw one of the Microsoft Powerpoint presentations on their website presenting the sideshow feature and one of the devices among the usual picture frames and things was actually a Smartphone, it looks like in house at microsoft they have done it but jsut not yet for us. EDIT: See http://download.microsoft.com/downl...56b-d47a59388df0/pdc_2005_auxilarydisplay.ppt
Just came across this:
http://www.zoneos.com/index.htm
It works with ActiveSync 4.5 and with WM5 (even though the ppc executable only states 2003). Functionality is the same as the innobec software: it adds a virtual display driver.

Works on WiFi with Server 2003 and WM6 as the client. Very cool, not very usefull but very cool.
Could someone post the Pocket PC and Windows Vista files for ZoneScreen? Unfortunately, the author has removed all the files from his site in favor of the open source release (http://sourceforge.net/projects/zonescreen/) which only has the files for Windows XP.
Best uses for Sideshow
The best usage of this will be with remote controls for Media Center PC's. You'll be able to sit outside on the porch and browse your music files or other media without needing to see the TV screen. This way you can have speakers outside and you can play whatever music you want. Added functionality will be when they finally make the app for windows mobile devices so that you won't even need a third party remote. With 3G devices such as the Hermes (8525) you won't even need to connect via wifi or bluetooth. You'll see all your album art, receive feedback of "now playing" items, etc. It will turn your pda into an expensive 2-way touchpanel such as Crestron, AMX, or ELAN offer. I say screw the laptops. Check out this link and then imagine that on your PDA.
<http://www.engadget.com/2006/12/21/ricavisions-vista-mce-sideshow-remote-does-bluetooth-at-100-met/>
All those complaining about why it doesn't work on vista:
You need ActiveSync for this application which has been replaced with Mobile Device User Center, so it doesn't work. I hope there's an update on the way to make it work, because in partnership with konfabulator widgets, it's incredible. It had it built in a case, and it displayed all the systems specs via widgets.

The Crossbow RDP in Windows Mobile 5.0

The Remote Desktop Client in Crossbow is perfect: just the same as the desktop edition. The possibilty to run in true full screen, 16-bit colors, playing sounds through the Universal's speakers, has an exchangable clipboard, fast rendering, etc. etc.
The one (Terminal Services) in Windows Mobile 5.0 is not much compared to that new one.
Is there a possibility to run the Crossbow version in WM5, or is there a third party alternative, as good as the new RDP Mobile?
Thanks.

I installed this on my PPC6700 WM5, and works great, except I can't use the keyboard . Any body else experience this?
Thanks, that's great!! The RDP works perfect as it should in Crossbow on a WM5 device.
Did you extract the RDP from a Crossbow ROM? If so, would it be possible to extract the new Internet Explorer Mobile as well?
Thanks again!!

Nope, there aren't any REAL alternatives - see my related article at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=288506 .
BTW, unrtunatey, the WM6 RDP client can't transfer files, unlike some of the H/PC .NET implementations - and, of course, the desktop Windows one
It is working on Smartphone WM5
I just installed this on my wm5 smartphone and it is working just fine

Keyboard disabled for me too, WM5 on an XDA-Exec. Bit of shame really...would be nice if someone had found a fix already...
A solution that work is to use the Windows virtual keyboard (somewhere in accessories). It's like the PPC keyboard, but on the remote computer. It works... Until a better fix...

Works perfect with Blueangel WM5 AKU 3.5
works in 256 color and in 16 bit color
sound works, hardware and software keyboards work
Any update on the keyboard issue
I got really excited about this until I also found the non-working keyboard issue (on an HTC Tytn/Hermes) - any likelihood that this will be fixed and any timescale?

WM6 Mobile & Remote Desktop Windows Vista
I shot a video (windows Vista on my Windows Mobile) - It works a charm
Have a look at the video if you feel you can spare 10 minutes
p.s:: I was experimenting with iMovie HD on my Macbook and got this video made, lemme know if I need to improve

Sorry for the quality : Was using my windows Mobile's Camera and iSight!!
Fullscreen
Hi.
I manage to got it work on my Loox n560, keyboar also work when installed it in main memory, but when I switch to full screen mode then keyboard isn't availible anymore and also can't switch back to normal mode from full screen. How do you switch back to normal mode?
Either soft key for me gets out of full screen, on universal
The program works fine on my SPV M3100 as an RDP client except even when the 'Save Password' box is checked, it doesn't actually save the password !
Do I need to install something else to get this working ?
thx dude, works fine for me with windows mobile 6 on eten x500
RDP does not work for me
Hi all,
I installed the RDP on my xda orbit WM6. When I try to connect my Laptop (XP Prof. SP2) reacts like desdcribed in other forums (changing to the log-in screen). But on my xda I can't see the remote desktop. Just under a second I can see a picture (looks like a message with a button) but then the display goes black and after some seconds an error message comes that the connection can't be established. Does anyone have an idea what I do wrong?
Just installed this new rdp. It works like a charm.
Except I want to use the Function keys I've got on my keypad. So that when I press F12 in Excell that it opens "save as" or F5 to use "go to".

HTC Shift MicroPad (Mouse) Drivers for Windows Mobile

Hello,
I think that there should be a way to get the MicroPad working on Windows Mobile side of HTC Shift without have the Vista started.
There are few nice tools which can show use that there can be found a way. First nice tool is True Connect from raspberrysoftware.com which once installed in Vista you can use your MicroPad even in Windows Mobile (SnapVue liberated) side but this only when Vista is started.
Other nice tool is BlueMouse from teksoftco.com and this allow any bluetooth mouse to work directly on any Windows Mobile without to have any Vista started but we do not have Bluetooth on HTC Shift Windows Mobile side yet.
I think that what we need is the MicroPad drivers for Windows Mobile 6 which once installed can let the MicroPad work on Windows Mobile side without Vista started. Ofcourse if the MicroPad is "diabled" to not be seen from SnapVue as for Bluetooth, WiFi and SD cards then we have a problem with that.
If you're looking for something that does the same that True Connect (and maybe something more...) but is compltely free, have a look at MyMobiler (www.mtux.com).
I've installed it and it works very well. Moreover you can have the screen of your (liberater) WMSide under vista, interacting with it without switching with hw-button: very usevìful to cut-copy-paste from Vista to WM.

With True Connect you can also have the WM screen on Vista side but this application is not free. Anyway the main ideea of this topic is to found a way to have MicroPad mouse working on WM side without need to start Vista because once Vista is started the battery goes down and there are many actions we can complete under WM without need to run Vista. This is why I think that to have MicroPad active under WM is very useful. If anyone know a way for that or have any ideea to get this working please let us know.

Not necessarily! You should bear in mind that the Shift is in effect two separate systems joined via USB with a built in KV switch allowing the keyboard and video to be shared. It may well be that the mousepad "device" is only physically connected to the Vista side of the device which would mean you could never get it working natively with SnapVue/Windows Mobile.
I am of the opinion that the same is most likely true of the SD card/WiFi/Bluetooth elements of the device - I've yet to see or hear any evidence to the contrary.

Dave

I also thought at that and if this is true then this is really bad news because there is no way to have Bluetooth, SD Card or WiFi active on SnapVue/Windows Mobilw side. Anyway we have confirmed that not only keyboard and video is shared, the GSM modem is also shared, the same for speakers (but seems that there is no microphone on SnapVue/WM6 as tested with Skype). Anyway I still hope that there is a way to have all these enabled and available on SnapVue/WM6 too.

No! The GSM modem *device* is most definitely not shared. The GSM modem is an integral part of the WinMo side of the Shift - all that is happening in Vista is that the connection established on the WinMo side is shared via NDIS sharing over the USB connection - in pretty much the same way as you could do with a separate WinMo phone and a USB cable.
Regards,
Dave
It's a nice thought to have everything working on both sides of the Shift, but the mouse pad working on the WinMo side is the least of our worries! The touchscreen is far more usable than that tiny mouse pad. I tried the mouse pad briefly the day I got my Shift, but I don't think I've touched it since.
http://mymobiler.com/
This allows you to view your Windows Mobile on the Vista side. It also enables a mouse cursor on Windows Mobile, if you move your mouse right or left from your desktop (you can also disable this).

it's my fault... I posted a while ago that the Microphone in WinMo works 100%.
I can't reproduce that. I'm starting to wonder if I was correct with my observation.
If the mic ever worked, it was on the base ROM, un-liberated European version.
I send some mails from my device with :insert voice note: from the email client, and back then I strongly believed it worked , as people reply-ed to those mails with text that implicated they heard my message.
The GSM Codec selection is useful when sending audio in email attachments, as the filesize is only 2Kbyte per second, ot a little less actually.
So I might be proven wrong, I apologize.

Is better that you know that microphone was available on the non-liberated SnapVue because if this is true then you can find a way to have the microphone active also on your custom ROM version. I was afraid that microphone was not available on the SnapVue side only because the voice was "disabled". Without microphone we can't use voice on SnapVue/WM6 side even with Skype installed. This is bad news for us and I hope that this can be fixed and released soon. Thanks.

Windows Mobile on external Display?

Is it possible, to see the Windows Mobile Screen on an external Display? Windows Vista works fine.
I´m using a Shift with i00-ROM-Deploy-20090309.
Thanks in advance.
It should be possible
Hi,
I own a Shift and a HTC Advantage.
The Advantage has a shortcut in settings "TV out"
The mini usb adapter that came with the Advantage makes it possible to connect it to an external monitor.
I have used it quite often in the past.
Works perfectly.
The IOO rom does not come with the plugin "TV out" so you will probably have to search the forum.
You might want to check out the XDA forum for the HTC Advantage also called "Hermes"
Good luck.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I dont think it is possible as VGA-Out is controlled by Intel GMA chipset, fisical connections and drivers are only acting on Vista side.
When you trigger from one os to another you change from GMA950 to Windows Mobile integrated graphics.
The only solution comes into my mind is to connect your Windows Mobile to Vista through Activesync then install some programs that allows you to see Windows Mobile side from Vista (Windowed) and that's it you will use Vista side on External monitor.
Good luck!

I guess that my answer is about a year late, but I'am also interested in coonnecting the WMobile Shift part to a TV. Looking at MSM7200 specification I see that there is an unconnected pin U4 with the output composite TV signal.
I'm kooking for a guy with firm hand and eagle eyes, who'll solder this sigle wire and get the TV-out capabiblities.
Hope that he'll share his "technological secrets" here

Controlling PC Remote Desktop

Hello
I am able to connect to my PC via the htc remote desktop application.
How do I stop it logging out the current user? This happens even when logging on with the same account.
I am trying to use my phone as a PC mouse to open file videos etc, so need to see the desktop at the same time on my phone.
Does anyone have a better way of doing this. I have tried logmein but this website does not allow me to select anything using the touch screen, although I can view the desktop fine.
Thanks
It's not possible to see on both with remote desktop.
You should look into VNC. Or if you don't need to have the screen on the phone but just mouse/keyboard controls there's G-Remote.
You could also try logmein.com - it is great!
ADC
I use Mocha VNC.
You can try the following website, this shows how to allow concurrent remote desktop sessions, it is geared towards windows 7 but its a start...

Also, that method doesn't let you see the same desktop on the phone as on the pc, , , both are logged on, yes, and (example) files saved to the desktop will both be seen, however one wouldn't see the same windows media player as the other, and indeed you would have trouble with both logins running (some of) the same program together.
I know this because i have both vista and win7 installs that have had concurrent logins enabled, which I didfor exactly the same reason as OP, heh, it didn't work. Hah.
Something like the "Logitech Touch Mouse" app for the iTouch/Phone would be cool on a Windows Mobile platform.
More info about it http://www.geek.com/articles/mobile/control-your-pc-with-the-logitech-touch-mouse-iphone-app-2010021/
When I'm in bed, I'd like to be able to control my PC with my phone as if it were a TV remote controller or in other words a wireless mouse+keyboard.

Or if you don't need to have the screen on the phone but just mouse/keyboard controls there's G-Remote.

It's exactly it, plus a lot more like g-sensor support, direct media player control, etc. Search for it on here.
Hi all, first-time poster here, although long-time admirer of the excellent work that goes on here.
This thread has compelled me to post as a winmo version of this "Logitech Touch Mouse" app would be a really handy to control my media pc at home, as well as the Skype conferencing machine at work in place of the bulky and ugly wireless keyboard we currently use.

Thanks
