I tried soft-reset annd it still remains that way.

The push in connector for the rear speaker can work loose. This MAY be your problem. See here (2nd picture - not a major dismantling but just remove rear casing - voids any warranty though):

After dismantling the phone and re-assembling the speaker it was still with distorted sound.
I managed to buy a new one, replaced and it's ok now.
thanks for your help.

Hi,
I fixed mine yesterday. The problem is that the contacts of the front speakers bend a little. after a while they don't touch the mainboard anymore.
solution is added....
tools needed:
torx-6
sharp knife (for opening the casing)
and I used a little nail with a square tip to unscrew those 2 little screws.
furthermore I disconnected the right flatcable instead of the left one (the tft one) by pulling it up.
I also disconnected the camera completely, instead of folding it around.
good luck and be carefull!

Hi,
I've done a search for rear speaker problems, it appears that my speaker is faulty, if I move it a little it starts then stops, I've checked the wiring which seems ok so can only assume the speaker is knackered.
Can anyone point me at a supplier or does anyone have a dead hermes they'd like to donate the speaker out of?
TIA
I recently had a problem with my rear speaker. One day it just stopped working It worked fine with headphones plugged in and I could hear sound while on the phone (but not in speaker mode). I could only play music while using headphones and came to the conclusion I had a rear speaker problem. I tried a hard reset but with no luck.
I then decided to take the phone apart and found the two contacts on the speaker needed to be bent to regain contact. I figured I'd post this up just incase someone else has my luck Using the Blackstone Service manual posted online, disassembly was pretty straightforward. I didn't have the torx bit they require but was able to use a small straight slot without damaging the screws.
weren't you better off sending it to HTC and not voiding your warranty?
Thanks for posting a solution to you rear speakers I too have the same problem. Before I unscrew the HD can you advise weather there is any "seal" that the HD detects to show the HD has been tampered with?
Hi!
A few days ago i bought a mda vario 2. The problem is that i have no sound. When some1 is calling i have only vibrations or when i want to listen a song, watch a film etc. I did hard reset a few times. I tried diffrent roms but it doesnt help. Cleaning mini usb gives nothing. I have wm 6.1 proffesional. Please help me sorry for my english im from poland
Yes i had the same thing when i got my hermes, it was my first WM device so i wasnt familiar with it. If your case is the same as mine then you have your sound profile set to "Vibrate". You can change it either by taping on the little loudspeaker icon on the top of your today screen and selecting "On", or if you have the HTC Today plugin, by selecting "Profiles" and then "Normal" mode. Hope this helps
But i have "normal" profile with sound on. Also when i try to see a video or listen mp3 files i dont have sound

There are several threads on sound problems here. Do none of them fit your situation?
Is it just the rear speaker that has no sound?
Do you get sound using the headphones?
Could it be that the Rear speaker push on connector needs pushing back on?

OK, but if someone phones you I know you do not hear it ring BUT can you hear their voice in the front speaker?
Mike
I can talk normally.
Try the info for new members http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=325748 . I had the same issue and had to re-attach the speaker plug.I checked this out by gently squeezing the unit below the speaker about 2cm down, it would make the connection then quit sound again. When I removed the back case (not the battery cover) I saw the plug was loose. Follow the instructions in the Hermes manual (from the post) carefuly.
How to unscrew 4ed screw under "void" sticker??What is "void" sticker for?

If you remove the void sticker then the Warranty becomes useless. It is supposed to stop you dismantling your phone.
So, if you have a warranty then use it. If you have NO warranty then use a a Torx No 6 screwdriver to remove the screws. (Just peel off the sticker, it will break up into little pieces).

i had same problem but i upgraded my rom to the v7 blue calm and now it works perfectly..i also have vario 2 but my warranty was voided long time ago lol if doesnt work theres a guy who made a website detailing instructions on how to fix it
I am having a sound issue, but it's pretty unique.
My rear speaker works fine if I'm trying to use it for the speaker phone, but it won't work in any other application. For example, I cannot play songs from windows media player, it won't play any ringtones when I receive a call.
I tried plugging in the USB headphones, and it's exactly the same. Works for the phone, not for anything else.
HOWEVER, with a bluetooth headset, I can play songs just fine. This leads me to believe it's a software issue but I can't pinpoint what it could be. Anyone have any ideas before I hard reset this bad boy?
Hi. I have v20 and my speaker fidnt work.i can hear some noise once in awhile.i open the device and reconnect the speaker.then comnect.and agold piece accidentally broken.my question is if i replace anew microphone it should work?
I don't know it might be the motherboard contacts and not the speaker. Actually I had mine open recently and I slightly broke one of the contacts but not completely so it still works.
The pic you posted does't show the speaker contact pins .That one you see there is for something else, a ground pin or something.
Sure, if the contacts on the mobo are still high enough a speaker replacement would solve the issue. If the speaker is the problem of course - it may be the contacts are not touching the speaker properly.
I would test the speaker before buying a new one with an old earphone cable if you have one. You'd just strip the ends and place them on the speaker contacts while plugged into an audio player and see if you hear anything. Oh btw, strip off the felt grille off the speaker, it sounds way better that way.

My speaker also stopped working a few months ago. I bought a new speaker but it still doesn't work so I summer that something on the motherboard is fried. It may also have been caused by the resurrection I had to pull off using QFIL around the same time. Maybe something firmware-related.
I replace the speaker, but it still doesnt work. I guess because of the gold ribon that broke..is there any way to fix it??
Anyone??
loudspeaker not working - incoming calls not ringing
Did you solve the issue ???
I apparently have the same issue with my chinese refurbished v20
The strange thing is the audio jack for my earphones was not working (but I didn't really care because I don't need it) and now it's working ! ...
