i have the new ROM and i am registered with LOGMEIN.com (a remote desktop/file tran etc site), its all free to use and it works perfectly with the universal, you can zoom in or have the desktop fit to screen (best in landscape mode), its so easy, i can connect throw our corp filewall, ive tested it connecting to XP Pro SP2 and also Server 2003, both look so good on the phone
Has anyone else tryed this site or anyone have the full account (have to pay for that) so i can see if its worth buying (not that you ever have too)
echo that, I think it's a fantastic service!
This is amazing - it even suppots duel monitors.
I agree!
It certainly made my life easier. No more USB key!
I tried the following before settling to Logmein Free:
1. GotomyPC - Excellent speed and interface but very expensive for private users.
2. WebEx - very good, slower than GotomyPC, much cheaper.
3. Logmein Pro - Identical to Logmein Free but extra features such as File Transfer, Print to local printer.
I would say even if you are fairly competent at setting up your own remote access using other software, Logmein free is still worth a look.
P.S. The place where I work has a Plasma display(Wifi connected)that needs to be changed almost on a daily basis. I do this by Logmein to my office computer and use VNC from my office computer to update it!
I discovered it a few months ago and it's fantastic. I am not decided yet on whether to upgrade to Pro, though if I did the only reason really would be the filesharing option.
VNC was my previous choice, but it's much slower - even when connecting over the local network. With logmein I can be sat on the sofa at home, controlling the PC upstairs and chatting on MSN. I've also used it from work to control the home PC. I can't believe how fast it is.
Cheers
Ant
my girlfriend uses it at wrk as msn etc and a forum she goes to is blocked, howvever she uses og me in to use or computer to use msn and go to her forums etc lol
how is this different from the remote desktop feature that is built into windows xp?

Hold on, it's free and fantastic? What's the catch??
OK, just installed it.
This folks, is FANTASTIC.
If I forget to start my downloads after I've left for work, no problems. Just log onto my PC and start the program!
Id I need a file from my PC, just log into Outlook and email it, to myself!
Wow, just WOW. And p1ss easy to set up.
Anyone know what the data throughput it - I'm gonna test it now with 3G on, instead of through Wifi - hopefully the speed will still be decent, but I don't want to be stung for huge data download charges.
EDIT: Speed via GPRS and 3G is still well usable.
What a find OP!
How do i access it using opera browser from my pda, it seems that logmein only work with IE, but is seems that there is nothing on the screen.. do i need to install java for it? where can i get this java apps..?
thxs
Hmm ja very strange, in opera and PIE I get the same message, saying "A Windows Pocket PC 2003 or newer is required...." and then asks you to download some "downgrade" CAB...which I install but it still doesnt work neither IE or Opera... Im a bit clueless what the problem is since the FAQ also doesnt mention anything about that.
Edit: Ok, after a reset of the universal it works. Speed is pretty lame over GPRS but what can you expect...its for free and its great. I can even control my Linux machine via VNC from the Windows Remote machine that I access via Logme in...Thanks a lot for that great tip!
I have used both Remote Desktop (the server is built into Windows XP PRO and Windows 2003) and LogMeIn.com.
Remote Desktop doesn't have a full screen mode.
Remote Desktop is faster. But, since my computer is behind a wireless router, I wasn't able to make it work - no matter how I configure the router, it can't connect.
So I use LogMeIn.com, the free version. It's slower but it has a full screen mode. I have absolutely no problems related to the firewall (wireless router). It just works.
Absolutely fantastic.
I use logmein pro for my 'always on' HTPC and the free version for our laptop. It is, quite simply, wonderful.
Runs well from my work network and my trusty Himalaya. I wonder if there is a way to use it to set up an activesync alternative to get around the lack of wifi support now :?:
Been using this since September last year. Awesome product and I still can't believe it's free.
excuse me, but using it with netfront 3.3 or opera 8.5 it just permit me file transfer. non desktop control!

Since you have IE on the handheld anyhoew, think of your IE exclusively as your interface for LogmeIn.

yes but from my desktop i see a lot of oppotunity to use my "controlled" pc. with NETFRONT i see just the option "file transfer". with opera after installing a specific cab i'm not allowed to connect
any hint?
that is strange but i can only think that it has something to do with the way those 2 bits of software handle ActiveX, IE is very good at it, the last person was right, just think of ~IE as your excusive logmein.com browser for remote desktop, its a hardship but somethings you have to live with
You should be aware that this service exposes you to being hacked, it uses SSL to encrypt between LOGMEIN.com & your PC & PDA but has to unencript all the data on the LOGMEIN.com server as you can't have back to back SSL connections.
Anyone hacking the server would be able to connect to your PC or PDA as if they were you.
Suggest at the very least that you don't leave an open connection & have a short timeout to a login screen on your PC.
Mike
Its a great bit of software.... I havent really played around with any other software like this, but this seems to do the job for me quite well....
i do however agree with the security issue... Yes you are opening a potential hole in your security albeit a very small one
Sorry if someone has already asked this.
I was trying to use internet banking on this phone but it will not work. To do internet banking with my bank, I will have to first go to their web page. Then from there, when I clicked the link it should pop another screen. But the problem is, it never ever be able to pop the other screen.
Is there any way to make it work?
Thanks for any help.
Opera for mobile devices may help as it enables you to have a number of tabs open at the same time which is what is needed for internet backing so you should be able to do everything you want on it. It is about $30 US and you can get a trial. Hope this helps.
OK thanks but I was hoping that I can use Internet Explorer. I don't really want to spend money getting another software but if that is the only way, guess I will have to buy Opera.
Thanks again
Well just get the trial and see. I don't know of any way of getting IE to do it. Sorry.
Also try Opera mini it is a Java app web browser and may help. It is free. So try them both.
If you use 3G etc both will make it way cheaper, faster and easier as they format it so you don't have to scroll to the side and it will turn a 500kb web page into about 50kb including pics.
Minimo is free and has JAVA as well !!
Minimo from Mozilla works great, has tabs , JAVA etc .

Have Fun !!
Thanks you guys.
Will try all the suggestion that you all have given me.
Hi all
Got my first windows phone and was wondering what browsers you are using with it ?
Thanks
Robert
IE, the built in one. Works fine for me. Only thing that'll make me switch is if Firefox is realeased for WM Wouldn't that be great? Oh and throw in Thunderbird too and It'll be the best!
I hear Opera is very good for mobile devices.
http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/products/winmobileppc/
thanks all am using both at the moment but would like firefox just need to wait and see

Hi,
The better one is Netfront wich allow javascript, textbrowsing and many functions.
I use it on Universal since more than one year and I installed it on P3600 with success...
Have a try
Could anyone provide an invitation to download deepfish (or post it on rapidshare?)...
Many thanks...

Thanks tried it for an hour now and I'm loving it!!! (writing this with it ) Nice!
Opera Mini is amazingly fast. The fastest browser I've ever used. Too bad it need to run in java so entering text there's no autocomplete.
ThunderHawk is the most similar to a desktop browser and somehow their technology manages to fit about twice as much of a page on screen while still being legible. You pay a subscription of about 5 dollars a month, but after being away recently and having to use the PDA browsers a lot I was getting a headache using Pocket IE and Minimo, and the only browser which didnt make me claustrophobic was ThunderHawk.
They really should do a trial version of thunderhawk, because i dont believe many people would want to pay them before trial so its a very bad business model.
The problems with ThunderHawk are that it tries to usurp your operating system and it isnt like a normal PPC program. So, for simple short tasks I still use Pocket IE since it is less regimental.
I found Minimo to be pointless, Opera bloated, Netfront was ok, but pricey for not much advantage over an expanded PIE.
Hi, I need help!

Yes and it's a good one but it's too expensive.
$39.95 for IM
I used to use slick on S60 and it supported file transfer. Been using slick on my x1 but I havent try to use files transfer yet. You could try that, just google lonecate games slick.
I'm using BeeJiveIM and fring occasionally....but BeeJive seems to work best so far.
I kinda want a IM app thats finger friendly. But it's rather hard to find
IM comparison
http://www.winmobiletech.com/022007Messengers/chart.html

today I checked new version of Fring(3.3.4) which has file transfer. It has real
file trasfer not just as a link! but I can not transferr MP3 with that.
Have anyone tried the new version on XPERIA?
None supports QQ?

Same here,
If you use msn you can even send offline messages.
The downside is that the font is too small for our resolution but still usable.

I would be interested in locating a mobile version of QQ (english preferably..)
I've been using Palringo.
Works alright for me, could be better.
Sometimes I need a soft reset for it to log in, wont log in other wise, dont know why.
Also, do the other apps make the Instant Message LED indicator flash? I know its there in the illumination settings, but palringo doesnt trigger it :|
I like also the EQO Messenger http://www.eqo.com/.
i use slick. a bit slow on some menus but i like it better than nimbuz as it does not require you to log a web server to use.
I use Live messenger and Skype, just as on the laptop.
I have tried fring but it wasn't quite it...
IM+ FTW!!!
I too second IM+. It simply works, while many others simply did not. I use ICQ, GT and Jabber protocols.
And skype for skype, sure, but it's constant data flow and thus constant battery drain. Good if it's cold outside and you want to keep your hands warm
I like fring

When i am in the many areas i go to where t-mobile is gprs here in Illinois, it will TOTALLY come in handy. Much faster!
Yeah it would definetly help if your boosting 2g gprs signal..
If your like me an run 3g most of the time, then opera beta 10 is the best
Just my opinion...
And it's quite faster than Opera Mobile. I'd like to make it default browser. I have already tried the registry settings, it won't work. Any ideas?
I love opera mini in general, but this version for some unknown reason cannot accept my facebook username and pass. Thus I cannot login to that page, it just keeps refreshing when I hit Login.
This is only in FB, in other pages that require logging in everything goes fine..
Anyone else experiencing this?
great browser but how do u open email links and bookmarks from outside the browser I click em and it just opens the browser start screen not the page I want!
I had to turn the password autosave off in the settings so facebook could acepted password.
This release is brilliant! It is great for multitasking, which is a huge plus. Is there a way to make it the new default browser? (for opening links out of other applications, in my case MoTweets?

No problem here logging into faecesbook, but I don't think I've tried logging back into it yet.
I've never used Opera Mini, but it is pretty nice.. It doesn't draw very well though, I've tried several sites and it looks really bad.. Like http://geocaching.com the site is kind of organized in columns and the columns are quite narrow, and winds up drawing on top of itself.
Opera 10 beta 3 launched Veeeryy slow. It was the only reason for me , for deleting it for ever. Im going to try out the mini version.. thanks for the hint
I have installed opera mini 5 now, but on some pages, like
www.openingstijden.nu or m.opentot.nl it doesnt give any search Results.. can somebody test and confirm this please.

Because this version doesnt eat up 90% of the device's resources to run. I am constantly amazed that people use opera beta 10. You can run opera beta 10 and sense UI.... THATS IT. try to run anything else and your system starts complaining about memory.

I don't know what ROM you're running but I'm running WM 6.1 and when I run Opera 10, my ram is at 61 percent. I have no trouble running multiple apps when it's running.

I think that Opera 10 (and other versions of the "full" client) suffer more from the resource drain experienced overall in 6.5 vs 6.1; I'm running 6.1 as well, and I can run opera 10 and a bunch of other stuff (text, gmaps, music, etc) all at the same time.
Also, anybody using Opera 10 on 6.5 should try running the dynamic proxy resource and nopushinternet cabs to address memory use.
eff this thing! I cannot log into ANY websites, redbox, netflix, CAG..nothing that I have to input a user name or password and check a box to remember me. I guess I'll try to play w/ the 'save password' settings, but I'm back to using Skyfire until I figure it out..argh!!
To anyone using Mini: I know we all want to browse the web that looks mostly the same as on our home computers, and often that's nice, but try browsing with Mini in "Mobile View". It's really the best way to experience the web in Mini, it renders almost everything really nicely, no need for panning and zooming, you just scroll down the page in 1 direction and never miss anything. It's very nice and quick and easy for reading newsites and long articles and things like that.
I use Mini for this type of quick browsing and Mobile for anything more "heavy duty", it's a nice combo.
I would really like to set Opera Mini 5 as my default browser. If any one finds a solution please update this thread for all of us.
