Hi,
Maybe I am beating a dead horse but could somebody please help me with these questions about BBConect.
Device: T-Mobile MDA with ROM version 2.26.x
Questions:
1. What are the advantages of using BBConnect (other than receiving emails from BB Servers)
2. Where does it write emails to (Outlook Inbox or any designated folder)?
3. If I use BBConect can I still use ActiveSync to synchronize with other Outlook Inbox folders?
4. I have seen somewhere that the WAP proxy needs to be changed: How does it affect other apps like T-Zones? Can I still connect to the Internet using GPRS?
5. How easy is it to install, configure & operate BBConnect?
Also if somebody could give a step-by-step install guide (all pdfs I downloaded are not in English), that will really help out.
Thanks in advance.
Before answering, I can tell you that rom 2.26 and the current BB connect client do not work. You will have to use a different rom. For me, based on postings on teh forum, qtek 2.17 and cingular radio 2.25 work well.
Now to your questions:
1. What are the advantages of using BBConnect (other than receiving emails from BB Servers)
replacement for bberry service and device. if your company has a BES server, you can now use your MDA to get corpoarte email. (I do not believe it works with blackberry internet service)
2. Where does it write emails to (Outlook Inbox or any designated folder)?
designated folder
3. If I use BBConect can I still use ActiveSync to synchronize with other Outlook Inbox folders?
yes
4. I have seen somewhere that the WAP proxy needs to be changed: How does it affect other apps like T-Zones? Can I still connect to the Internet using GPRS?
yes. BBerry will use a different connection. My MDA deals pretty well with switching from one connection to teh other (automatically)
5. How easy is it to install, configure & operate BBConnect?
if you have the right ROM, pretty easy. see the other posts on teh forum. But you can't6 use rom 2.26 yet.
Thanks for the answers.
I guess I will wait for T-Mobile to update the ROM.
I am not against running other ROMs, it is just that I have bricked couple of devices and wasted too much time to get the data back.

Is there any option to have blackberry and MSN Messenger simultaneusly connected?
not really: they use different GPRS access point.
I know this thread is dead for some time, but I would like to get ne1fl0w5 wave here.
I have a Qtek 9100 from Claro (Telmex Brazilian sub). It was running 2.22.17.1 PTB ROM and 2.46.11 radio rom. First tried all BBConnect clients available (they were many). All installed but would halt at "Not connected" after first provisioning of the device and connection through GPRS/EDGE. After duly CIDunlocking the Qtek at imei-check (mine is a G4, I forgot to mention), I took a deep breath and decided to give it Vodafone's ROM a shoot.
I followed these instructions and managed to make it work.
Now, to your questions:
Questions:
1. What are the advantages of using BBConnect (other than receiving emails from BB Servers)
First of all, I have to say that I find (or thought, at first) BB email services excelent, but the devices really bad. Those little keys are small even for my 9-month old baby. Besides that, that trackwheel will certainly cause repetitive stress injuries. I used for less than a day and my arm started aking (please, don't say I am fragile) In addition, it was not made for lefties such as me. And the 8700g does not have an efficient cursor (for instance, if you are to delete a letter in the beggining of a line (or two words before the cursor), you would have to delete everything and retype the text.
For those reasons, I prefer the Qtek...
As per the system itself, I have to say that emails are delivered really fast to each of them. In Blackberry connect, the calendar items are also syncronized correctly as well. However, it did not sync my contacts (and it is probably not meant to), as opposed to the Blackberry device, in which both were available.
2. Where does it write emails to (Outlook Inbox or any designated folder)?
Designated folder. You can chose which server folders you want sync'd as well.
3. If I use BBConect can I still use ActiveSync to synchronize with other Outlook Inbox folders?
Yes. However, BBConnect uses a dedicated GPRS connection and it will compete with Outlook for the radio. You will probably have issues if you are looking for concurrent exchange push functionality.
4. I have seen somewhere that the WAP proxy needs to be changed: How does it affect other apps like T-Zones? Can I still connect to the Internet using GPRS?
Whenever you connect to do anything else, your BB connection will be lost.
5. How easy is it to install, configure & operate BBConnect?
It was hard to install all Roms required to make it work, but once you have this part finished, it is very easy to get things going.
Also if somebody could give a step-by-step install guide (all pdfs I downloaded are not in English), that will really help out.
The post above gives you all the directions (except for creating the blackberry.net connection, which is not necessary).
Sorry for the lenghty (and completely out of time) post, but I would like to share this with you.
Also, I would like to say that I was not very impressed with the way things eventually got working. first thing I noticed was that the reconciliation with the server was not complete. For instance, read messages did not display as such at my server, only at the device. In addition, the BB service uses lots of storage and memory.
In the end, I prefered my Qtek 2.22 rom (much faster to load) and much better loking style. Because of all this, I have just reverted to Qtek's rom and decided to go with email redirection to an external exchange sp2 account. Although we have that in the office, they have high security standards (but forgot to prevent email redirections).

BB Connect on WM6
Blackberry is running smoothly in Universal with WM6 Rom all thanks to c0rnholio. He figured out a way to change the string that will work through decoding>changing>encoding and flashing and finally a small aku registry change.
I was wondering if same thing can be done with wizard.
Here is how-to from c0rnholio
I managed quite easy to get BB Connect running (for company email via BES).
I had the 2.24 (Mr Clean) OS ROM, 2.24 Bootloaders and 2.25.11 Congular Radio. I knew that would not support BB.
I took the OS and ExtROM from the QTek 2.17 package, changed the pagepool to 8MB (BB was said to be a memory consumer), repacked them to a new nk.nbf (with only OS and ExtROM), upgraded, installed BB Connect 2.1.2.31 (downloaded from the Vodafone.de website) and voila!
By just following the Blackberry Connect tutorial (also downloaded from vodafone.de) I had it going.
Good to know:
-I did this exercise after I received my Blackberry device from my employer (I was happy with the functionality, not with the device). So I was sure that the BB functionality was Ok for my company email account.
-When I generated the key for my PDA PIN the Blackberry device was no longer functional (I can think of reasons why).
-I did not have to use the SIM I have in the Blackberry device, in my PDA I am still using my Voice SIM (which also has a data plan)
Hi
I'm also working on getting BBconnect to work with the newer roms. I managed to get it to work with the latest Tmobile rom 2.26. But Crossbow still no luck.
I looked at the solution for changing the strings, but unfortunatly the strings mentioned are not in the crossbow rom...so can't change them (I guess they're different?).
I have contacted Faria; he seems to have a way to tweak the system so that it will work. He's currently on holiday but as soon as I have some info I'll post it here.
Did you try to get it to work on the latest aku3.3 rom?
now works
I've got it now working on all roms...including Crossbow. There is a detailled explanation in the developing forum that shows how to change the rom for BBconnect to work.
Is there an easy way to do this?
I am not a complete newbie, but I am certainly no expert in hex editing, so I was wondering if there is an wasy way to make it work on other Wizard ROMs, including the Brazilian provider I am hooked with.
Currently I am using Tmo's ROM, but there are a lot of features in this ROM I do not use and that take lots of space...
Thanks
Hacking isnt that difficult, it's just that you need to understand how it works.
The thread in Development & Hacking says it all.
I think (just have to dare to flash the hacked os now!) I managed to hack the official AKU3.3 WWE ROM.
Both of these apps worked on the previous version of the software for me, but now neither is for different reasons.
"Mail By Google" returns the error:
"Your phone doesn't support end-to-end secure connections (reason: Cause unknown). In order to protect your data, Mail By Google for mobile cannot be used at this time.
"GMail" returns this error:
This program required a data connection. Please contact your carrier, or visit the GMail for mobile FAQ on your ocmputer for more info.
The proxy has been disabled, both by running the CAB and by running KaiserTweak, and other browsers work fine, both Pocket IE and others that I have installed to play around with.
The phone is an AT&T Tilt, and it has the official ROM released a few days ago.
P.S. - I am willing to try one of the cooked ROM's if it'll work with AT&T's network right out of the box.
I'm having the same problems, please if anyone has suggestions please let me know. I'll even revert back to the original ROM if I could find it anywhere.
Same issue here as well using a cooked ROM. I've seen T-mobile related posts on blogs saying this is an issue with the GPRS settings but I've reset mine back to default to make sure and still having the same issue.
I am having the same problem since updating to the latest AT&T firmware. It worked fine with the shipped ROM (just got the device yesterday), but doesn't work with the new one.

Hi all,
As far as I know anybody that needs to connect to the internet through a company proxy (3G or wifi), using Win Mobile 6.1 or 6.5, is facing "big problems".
From what I found doing some searches here in xda and in the internet this seems to be due:
- to a "bug" in the proxy configuration sw that keeps to "0" (instead of "1") the "Type" field of the HTTP-{xxxxxxx} key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{EF097F4C-DC4B-4c98-8FF6-AEF805DC0E8E}. In other words is like keeping NullProxy configuration insead of HTTP... But this seems to be an "old bug", now the correct configuration is properly saved (I checked in the 6.5 rom I am using and I can confirm).
- But even if the correct configuration is there the proxy password it is ignored, at least for HTTP (source: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa455855.aspx )
For that reason, in my experience, the only programs that can access the net are Internet Explorer and Opera, that allow the user to insert account and pw of the proxy and go ahead... And this should confirm that only the configured proxy address is properly used, not the stored account and password...
But now the "surprise":
I can confirm that the following 4 roms ALLOWED ME TO SURF THE NET TRHOUGH A PROXY WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM !!!
I mean update the weather, use GoogleMaps, use MusicID, check sw updates, update GPS data... and so on !!!
The named roms (for the HD) are:
WM 6.5: (NEW !!!)
[ROM][WWE] XannyTechROM GRID LEO M2.5 ROMS (all versions)
(Note: only with the proxy password saved also in Internet Explorer...)
WM 6.1:
[ROM][WWE][24.07.09][21051.1.6.4]-=® panosha ® =-Black Pearl v 3.4 ("open" ROM, as the author says in his first post)
[ROM][ITA][14/04/2009] LP HD EVO II (5.2.21041 build 21042) Latest Manila
And now the question, as the solution must exist:
Where should we look to find the proper configuration in order to finally use it in all other roms ??
I started checking from the registry, but with no success..
I really hope to see some interest in this, as I understand it is not a "really common" problem...
Regards,
K
THE SOLUTION ... or at least the "very beginning" of it !!
I start suspecting that when the proxy password is saved also in Internet Explorer the chances to be able to use a company proxy with password are increasing... but I still do not understand...
What follows is what I noticed:
- In the WM 6.5 XannyTech ROMs I am using before saving the IE proxy password ONLY the quick GPS update was working (weather update, google maps, ecc. were not able to connect...). This actually means that both account and password of the configured proxy where properly used... but only from the quick GPS progam...
- When I saved the IE proxy password ALL programs that are using the network properly worked... that means that all programs properly red the proxy address stored in the "network section" and the proxy password from IE...
Can somebody try with other ROMs ??
Regards,
K
PS: And why with other ROMs this does not seem to allways happen ??
me 2, the same issue.
I have been trying but still unsuccessfull.
I hope someone can find the solution for this.
Found new rom working
I found another HD rom working properly:
[ROM][WWE] XannyTechROM GRID LEO 1.7b M2.5
So, as I said, a solution exists... but where ??
Regards, K
(PS: First post updated)
Updated post #2
K
PS: Actually I wrote this post mainly to keep the thread "in the first page"... sorry about that !
I'm using Kisja's WM6.1 ROM (thread) and cannot get proxy to work at my university. I can access local sites, which probably means that there is something wrong with the proxy settings.
But here comes the weird thing: I can check mail through the standard WM e-mail client, and this works great, but I cannot update Manila weather nor surf the web! I've tried both Opera and IE without success.

Just to be sure that I understood: are you using account and password to connect to the proxy, or only the address ?
In may case, I use account and password.
And, just to share, some other little things:
- Not all programs are working through a proxy with account and password... for example Midomi works only through a proxyless connection
- This, toghether with what alreay noticed in the previous posts, confirms that there are programs able to use WM proxy configuration and others not...
We will see...
K
I think that it may be based on the WM build # and what has been removed.
I know I would try dasense's daG's latest kitchen (or equivalent for your phone) without excluding any windows sys packages or certs and running the latest com5 build. 23515.5.5.0
Everything that I've tried works through my company proxy currently.

If found the responsible for this (at least from what I'm seeing : you have a company proxy set up on your USB ActiveSync connection and as soon as you do a sync the "Type" field goes from "1" to "0" thus disabling the proxy.
You'll find a key in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\App\Tasks" that is something like "DisableProxy", delete this key, restart the phone and you'll be all right.
It seems to me that this is a HTC feature; on some rom it is enabled, not on others... go figure (and I don't know why such a feature exists)
Regards,
Stéphane.
thanks alot
Hello all, I found the solution.
You must:
set the proxy in the APN configuration
connect to the net via Internet Explorer
fill the username and password in Internet Explorer and SAVE it
that's all
This worked for me with the plain rom in the HTC HD2
Some univeristies use a WLan called EduROAM.
http://www.eduroam.org/
But somehow HTC HD2 cant connect to it.Seems like a personal certificate is the problem.
Has anyone got this working on HD2 ?
It works on Nokia phones running Windows mobile 6.5
you need to download one of the latest version of securew2 client from your uni website or the developer's website. follow instruction to set up the connection given by your uni IT department.
I'm using eduroam connection now in UCL.
Thanks for your answer.
I downloaded securew2
But I still cant get it to work.
Do you have to provide this information on your campus ?
SSID: eduroam
authentication: WPA2
kryptering: AES
EAP-typ: PEAP
authentication: MSCHAP v2
For me WPA1 works better, also AES is wrong. Then you select "Secure W2" in the drop down box not peap. SecureW2 needs to be configured as well. Your university should provide you with that info. You usually don't need the radius part with the cert! That's just to protect you from connecting to the wrong network (and thus giving them your password).
Above information about WPA2 is from my campus informationsite.
After I made some settings on "Eduroam connection" i cant change them.
As soon as push eduroam it tries to connect.
The only way to change them is to install a new rom, so that the phone is
like it was from the first time.

I took my mobile to my University's IT Department and they set it up for me and it works great, I get all of my student emails directly to my mobile. Hope this helps.

ROM version ?
In my case,
I download SecureW2 personal client 2.04 ce, install it on my phone via active sync.
Settings>Menu>All settings>Connection>Wifi>Wireless networks>Menu>Add new
and start configuring the settings. Different network will have different settings.
I don't think ROM version matters in this case. It should work with your device, if you got the right SecureW2 client and settings set up on your phone.
Btw, IT department or university's website should provide sufficient information for you to set up the connection.
Good luck.
The IT people cant get it to work......
They say that they cant get it to work on HD2.
Thats why I turned to you guys.
Still no luck, secureW2 keeps asking for user/pass, and yes I know its the right user/pass. A friend at work tried his username and it doesnt workl either.
If I connect to Eduroam on my pc it works, so nothing wrong with user/pass

You might need to get another version of secureW2 client.
I tried a secureW2 client provided by my uni and i faced the same problem as you. It kept on prompting me for username and password. I changed to another client (SecureW2_Personal_Client_204_CE), downloaded from SecureW2 forum, and it worked great!
During the installation of the client, registration is needed, i could register and install it couple of times on my phone without any problem. However, yesterday when i tried to reinstall the client after upgrading my ROM, the installation failed at the registration part. Maybe because they stop providing the free version?
I managed to get it installed on my phone again via activesync though.
Cant find that version.
I downloaded version SecureW2_Enterprise_Mobile_313_GA_TRIAL.exe
bump..
I still cant get it to work

Chalmers University of Technology uses Thawte premium server certificate for authentication.
What you need to do is this, go to Thawtes website and download their certificates:
(Apparently I cannot post links, but just google for "thawte root certificate" the file is at www dot thawte dot com slash roots)
The certificate you need is located in the folder Thawte Roots\Thawte SSLWeb Server Roots\thawte Premium Server CA\Thawte Premium Server CA.cer
Download that to your HTC HD2 and install it by just clicking it in the file browser on your phone.
Then you can just follow the instructions you found at their webpage.
Hope this helps.

how to connect to EDUroam
Firstly, this refers to connecting an HTC android phone (specifically the HTC Desire, but what I get from the web is that they are all much the same, these HTC android interfaces).
The problem starts when an innocent user looks for a WiFi network and finds eduroam. It then asks for not particularly relevant password information and cannot connect because the configuration of the default network setup is wrong. If you try to get the phone to forget that network it appears to do so that when you reconnect it still assumes that the connection was correctly set up. In order to get it to forget their network properly you have to enter the wrong password several times so that the phone thinks you have illegally trying to access the network. It then completely forgets.
The network discovery procedure will again come up with EDUroam, and the configuration should follow the instructions on the following website from Oxford University: <search for android eduroam oxford in Google>
In fact the names given on the HTC desire setup are slightly different. The important thing is that the EAP type should be PEAP, and the secondary type should be MSCHAPv2.
You then enter the username which will be effectively your registered e-mail address at your own institution, and then use as a password the thing eduroam calls "network access token" (16 lower case alphabetic character password generated for you if you buy your institution on request.
You then connect up and miraculously you have the connection you wish!
You should check that the connection is mobile roaming capability on your phone and checking that you really do have Internet and e-mail access as you wish through the WiFi connection directly.
I have been looking for the SecureW2 Personal Client 2.0.4 for Windows CE package (original filename: "SecureW2_Personal_Client_204_CE.zip"). I have been unable to find it and the sources given in this thread no longer exist or are no longer available.
If anyone has the file, please provide it.
Hi there,
I'm having a bit of a strange problem that I haven't found anywhere in the forum:
1)running froyo superram V 1.5.
2) 2.12.50 radio
3)energy rom dec 13 version
during install i cannot connect to my google account via 3g /hdspa / umts or whatever the data connection through my mobile phone provider is. wlan no problem.
after having done so and switching wireless lan off and only using my mobile phone data plan i can:
a) suft the web through the internet browser using mobile data connection (so i assume my apn settings are ok, [i'm with eplus, germany])
b)but i cannot ping the web in the settings dialog, nor can i use the marketplace or use any other internet using application
c) all of the above, i.e. marketplace work through wifi
what can i do? and why is this a selective issue????
any help and input is appreciated!
merry christmas from germany!!
data connection
I am having the same issue. Everything works fine except web related apps, unless i'm connected to wifi.
dear thomygunz72,
you may have misunderstood me and i don't want to get this question taken off the intendet track:
i can browse the web without wifi using my mobile data connection.
at the same time i'm on the web using mobile data, none of the other inet related apps work!
so I'm not one of the regular cases in which mobile data connection doesn't work at all, it however only works SELECTIVELY!
thats my problem.
hope anyone might be able to help!
Just wondering if you found a resolution to this issue, as i am having the same problem.
Internet app is ok, email and gmail apps are fine, however anything else just "fails to respond to server" when trying to use them, including the XDA app and facebook and twitter.
Any help to this would be greatly appreciated.
I don't see why you can access the internet but not via applications. That sounds a bit fishy to me, and I'd personally be tempted to try a different ROM and see if the problem persists.
First of all though, I would definitely check my APN settings to make sure they're correct. You should be able to find the info you need here...
http://www.unlocks.co.uk/gprs_settings.php
From the home page, bring up the menu and go to settings, wireless & networks, mobile networks, access point names. Check the selected values in there against the values on the site linked above.
browser works just fine but internet applications dont
I found a few posts about my problem, but no solution whatsoever. I got and HD2 using Nexus One ROM, the thing is I use the default browser with no problems but when I try to run facebook, twitter, downloading files or google talk there's an error message saying that there was an error and I should try later or there was a timeout. I checked my APN and everything is the way it is supposed to be. I figured so since I can browse perfectly. Is there an option where I can force applications to use the APN I set up? I hope you can help me on this matter.
