Not sure if this is the right forum, but I was wondering if anyone had seen LegolasTheElf. Trying to sort something out and I have not gotten a repsonse to my PM. He is usually prompt.

He got mad and left right after he got banned. Post your problem, I'm sure someone can help.

XDA castoff looking for new home!

Anyways, I'm one of the experts on the HTC TyTn/Hermes/8525. I thought I'd introduce myself here, and offer some assistance.
Here are MY ground rules:
1) If you keep asking me the same questions over and over again, don't be surprised that I either don't answer you, or give you a really stupid answer.
2) I can tell you what you need to know to get WM6 on your device WITHOUT bricking it. I can FIX bricks. Here's the deal. If you want general help, that's great. I can do it. If you want 1-on-1 support, you'll need to PM me and make arrangements to compensate me.
Anyways, I'm not going to be on XDA again, for a while.. So, HoFo just gained a HTC expert

Having gotten himself and his alter ego (xQx) banned by shogunmark, I'm sure he's bound to (try to?) sneak back under the radar to taunt some poor unsuspecting n00b

Legolas is saying on HoFo that he was banned because he criticized a Moderator. Just for the record, that is not the reason he was banned and the decision was not taken lightly.
To keep the spirit and quality of this site we will not tolerate abusive language particularly when used to describe other members, or those who cannot accept that this is a community where the opinions of others deserve respect.
We do accept freedom of expression where it is politely and intelligently expressed and does not constitute a personal and abusive attack on other forum users.
Members need only use common sense to see the boundary between reasonable good behaviour and repeatedly going too far.
This is not a forum where people should be tuning in to be voyeurs to the latest tirade of flaming and colourful language - there's lots of other fora you can go to for that.

Your right, he has tried.. and he does currently have a different user id on here, but i am allowing him to plead his case with us mods/admins.. but i can tell you it probably wont last....

I admit, he is a bit harsh and may have taken it a bit too far, but who doesn't get frustrated. I would rather take some good advice from someone who demands that I do my homework, than get bad advice and a $500 brick. He is knowledgeable and helpful, if not a bit abrasive Seriously, if I had a vote (which I don't), I would keep him around for his knowledge I'll take the personality quirks that go with it. I realize this may not be a popular opinion atm, but he has unbricked a bunch of Hermes.

If i myself would have only seen what all has happened on the surface then i would probably agree with you, but there has been a lot that has happened in the background that most people dont know about, nor will we make it public.. but i can assure you that the things that have happened in the background completely goes against the xda spirit...

Well, if nothing else, this story illustrates what we should all know well by now ... the internet and technology makes this a very small world ... and there no longer is the fiction of maintaining/making reputations in isolation ... a quick stroll through the HOFO thread make this point crystal clear.
Not to get biblical, but the "reap what you sow" line comes to mind.

Mods: now that the kinder and gentler elf is back, this thread can be cleaned up and locked. Removal of the previous post would be appreciated. I do think that mods should be paid some respect - even from seniors. Thanks.

Perhaps another mod should do the cleaning as I seem to be in the firing line here. I would just say that the above graphic was a purely humorous post originally created at the time M$ was making us take down the ROM archive (Hence "no Mr Gates don't do it")- it was certainly not any kind of criticism of Shogun for whom I have great respect. Let's not loose our sense of humour.

I never seen the image when it was used about the rom archive, and immediately seen it as bashing shogunmark.
@ Todd, "the kindler gentler elf" has already mentioned brainless people can't read in his posts already, and also, I don't care if I am senior or noob, (its fairly clear the intent of the Elfs avitar, even though Mikechannon had nothing to do with it) Im going to say something about it, I can't even believe he was let back in, to be honest.

its true.. it was all a joke and in good fun Mike is a great guy whom i also have lots of respect for.

About to wake up from my dream.....

And now my mind is pretty much made up about upgrading (that means selling my dream, already got a buyer so don't ask, and buying the Nexus unlocked from google) to the Nexus.
but...

Also, How many of you, other than CM, are moving on to development for the Nexus?
And will I be able to flash roms like Super- D, and WG- Y on the Nexus?
Or are they Dream roms only?

Im still waiting on the Htc Legend to be released. Ill prob wait till mid-end year around bday to get a new phone. But the Mighty-Leo is a nice looking phone just like my zodiac sign.

That looks nice but the prototypes had lag with 256MB ram which is to little for the UI. Hopefully those bugs get worked out by sony.

I got a buyer but if you can out bid him its yours
hes offering $275 as is, rooted and loaded with apps, good body condition just usb door is missing.
EDIT: Oh and that includes the 8gig 6 class transcend sd card with a convertible home/car charger-$50 value

Why is everyone disrespecting King? Why has he become such a major target?
Please don't flame the guy on this thread. I actually like his ROM's but I would love to see the other side of the spectrum.
If you do start flaming then I will have this thread closed. I just want information!
And maybe you guys don't care, in that case this all went to waste. But for the people who actually have sufficient reason to dislike his ROMs or him or both, please post why here because this is really curious..

I want you to take a look at the dev section....All of his threads are locked for some unknown reason...And people flame his because they are trolling..That is what people do when they have nothing better to do, they want to make themselves feel better.

You know there's a saying back on my home country, "You play with fire, then fire burn you", but ever since i move to new country of america, now its, "You play with fire, firemen save You!". This new place is not the same like bhak home, it is not as nice but the technology is everywhere.

Well I don't know how those sayings apply here...I don't think he's been "playing with fire" and even if he has, well then it seems like he has a second skin because it hasn't burned him yet. The dude, in my opinion, is tough enough to be able to take such harsh criticism and still make those ROMs for people. I mean even if the ROMs have bugs in them, which ones don't? And if all this stuff about him using other ROMs is true, then why didn't you guys say anything immediately? I mean you don't have to take it so far as to close every thread but I think a simple warning would have sufficed.
But that's only if he did/does that..
That's just my view on the subject.

You see back in my home country we do things based on perseverance not relevance, it is tricky here in this new country of America.There are many bad men here, unlike bhak home where we handle problem like this:

Just about every, if not all, of the ROMs produced by kingklick are ripoffs from another ROM. The most he will do is add some new gapps, mess around with the build.prop, zip it up and call it his own and beg for donations.
It's been proven on numerous occasions by comparing md5sums of every file in his ROM against another's ROM (which was out first). Guess what? They match! His argument is that we are building the same source, of course they will match! Sounds logical to the day to day user, but the truth is that would never happen, unless by chance kingklick and the other developer were building on the exact same machine.

Correct, the MD5 sums would not match even if the code was compiled from the exact same source.
For fun, lets give this guy the benefit of the doubt: Suppose that hypothetically he's right and the reason that the MD5 sums match is that hes' compiled the same code. What's concerning here is the HUGE percentage of files that he's not changed.
We're back at square one, that he simply renames another ROM and calls it his own.

Thats the worse part about it, charging for work thats not even his.
If you were the REAL developer I bet you would be mad.
Think about it, its like someone taking credit putting your work out there again and essentially stealing it.... all of it your blood, sweat, time and countless hours of changes until satisfied.
Im amazed more people are not pissed off about this.

Hmm...then who's Blur ROM did he steal? He's one of the only devs I knew that was working on it for the G1 and now the Nexus.
But regardless, his md5sum line doesn't make any sense and it's odd that he'ld use it on xda out of all places. Him looking at a Slide thread a minute later is funny, but not any concrete piece of evidence. However it's the md5sums being the same that doesn't make sense. Even if he got the same md5sum somehow, how is it a different ROM if the vast majority of files are unchanged. I guess the question then is how many files differ between ROMs typically?

There isnt a typical answer for that question. The number of files whose md5sums differ is going to be entirely dependent on how many files have been changed. So for someone compiling their own rom completely from source, as kingklick said he did, every single file would be different.
The more common scenario is if you have two people making roms and adding in bits of their own flavor. In that case, they could be using many of the same files and changing only what they wish. But generally, people who do that state what they did and dont try to lie through their teeth about it by claiming that the rom is entirely their own work.
the main point of all the 'drama' surrounding this is that this isnt the first time this has happened with him. he has had previous occasions where it has been definitively proven that he stole other people's work, branded it as his own and then used it to garner donations for himself. ctso's work was one of the instances in which kingklick did so.
god only knows how many people he duped into donating money to him by allowing them to think that it was his hard work that turned out the rom. it's deceitful. legal circles call it fraud. unfortunately there is no law regarding whats going on here, so the worst that will happen to him is that his roms get pulled and he gets banned.

the main problem started a few months back eugene and cyanogen posted roms then king posted saying he had fixed problems.
eugene and cyanogen looked for some hidden text they put in there and they found it everytime in kings so called fixes all eugene and cyanogen wanted was some respect for fixing but king kept saying he had fixed it
so many times he was caught
also he said eugene faked his own house being robbed and phones and pc being stolen
so all people want is respect for thinks they have fixed

It is the donation thing that riles people up. He was gone from this community for some time and then hacked up a fur ball of a froyo rom. His developing skills may be questionable but his marketing skills are unparalleled.

Few days ago,I left a comment on the SE product blog,realating to the "8mb file" on the SE developers.com and a SE support engineer emailed me and it probably shows that SE KNOWS NOTHING OF OUR CUSTOM ROM??
Perhaps he is pretending.....

On behalf of some considerations ,it might be good for them to support devs cuz what z,j and other devs doing is ,in certain point of view,elongating the life span of their product,they can just save money to elongate the life by releasing the RSA key

Editersonally I will call z and j devs rather than hackers...

The only thing I need to be 100% happy with my X10 is the bootloader cracked to have a kernel which allows overclocking (at least for the moment I only need that xD)

I'll be honest here, I wouldn't bother to answer your email if I were him. First of all your email shows the immaturity of your writing. Second of all, you are asking the wrong questions to the wrong guy. He is just a support engineer who took the time and tried to help you with your question ( the first one only ), he doesn't know about SE future plans, even if he does, do you think that he is stupid enough to give you answers so you can come here and expose them?

Some of you know me, some don't. I'm more active trough PM then trough posting. But this is something that is bother me for a while and I think a lot of us.
And it can't be done trough PM, believe me, i have tried....
We all (if we are fair) know that the x10 is old mobile. And the most of us don't use a mobile longer than 2 years. So why o why read I so many post of people that are complaining about a update from a dev. Let them move on and give new dev's a chance
My personal top 3 irritations!!!!!
1) if you can't do it yourself, be grateful for everything they do for us and don't complain!!!
2) if we (the users) get a new mobile, how many people still stick to the x10 treads? So why expect a lot of people that the dev's must stick to the X10 forum and development further!!!
3) if a dev don't post for a while, don't post non related post in a DEVELOPMENT TREAD and complain about a update!!!
I have talk with a lot of members trough a personal message and told them about the post they have placed. But I think its a neverending story.
I think when the Mods are more harsher and give quicker a warning and ban people, then maybe people think twice what they post. I know that the mods help xda in their spare time and do all they can. But when you make a couple statements, the word get spread and maybe maybe this will work!

Even though i bought a Galaxy Note, i still read the first page of the General/Dev/Q&A section of the X10 forum daily.
You are right about people complaining to developers for updates, but that's just the way it is. It doesn't have to disturb you, or anyone. Most people ignore these types of begging posts anyway.
My experience in forums showed that having strict moderation won't do a thing. It will only lead to more drama. I know you feel you have to do something about this, but believe me its better if you relax and don't do anything at all. The mods know their job and doing the best they can. Talking to individuals via PM's and trying to explain why they shouldn't do this and that is not only time consuming, but as you can see, it lead you being frustrated enough to start this thread.
This thread will be read by (lets say) 1000, will be replied by 10-20, some may agree, some may not. It then will crawl it's way on the bottom of the page until a similar thread pops up. (There, just saved you some time )
Bottom line is, it's the interwebz. Don't get too attached.

Unfortunately, you are right. People feel its a right they possess to get the developer to work non stop for them. Things in the x10 forums are still relatively mild though... In the atrix forum, the CM7 thread had to be closed for a period of time due to people complaining and demanding for fixes. And the "thx" posts. Here's a classic example

4. why dont you make a backup and try it yourself

I have just counted 93 posts deleted by moderators and with the warnings posted, about a dozen took vacations for ignoring the developer and moderators warning of being a Dev only thread. Just because you do not see warnings posted everywhere does not mean nothing is being done, most problems can be sorted out using the new infraction system, we use that all the time now, it is easy to use and straight to the point.
This type of thread cleaning and response is happening all the time, reported posts are dealt with much faster and if anybody needs banning, senior mods are available on gtalk to sort it out immediately.

Couldnt have said it better myself good man, just cause we dont get them all doesn't mean we arent trying. and according to some members here im a very harsh mod. however i do what i have to

You harsh, Nah. (I do however get the feeling it was you that closed my first thread posted here.) But having an Avatar that is a Happy Face , with a "Heidelberg Scar" doesn't really convoy a feeling of warm, fuzzy comfort to people. More like good mod / bad mod and Colossus= good mod; he even warns people in a very nice polite way. But temporarily freezing threads seems to be doing a great job of allowing the tensions to diffuse. Kudos for that.
