911 Emergency Help for my Tilt - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

K i just wanna start off by saying i am very cluesless when it comes to smartphones and pda's. I just purchased a tilt from at&t and hot it yesterdya i love the phone but am having a huge issue with the battery life. I charged the phone yesterday fully and took it off the hook today at 12pm for work. By around 6pm it was already at 50% battery life and later on when i got home at 8pm was at 28%. Is this something normal happening with the tilt?
I have read some of the forums when it comes to all the programs and fixes for it and its like completely un-understandable to me. I downloaded a program that i heard would fix this issue while i was at work called Kaisertweak but i have no idea what to do with this program. if someone can give me a step by step on this id greatly appreciate it.
If you guys need to know what im using the phone to make the calls is mainly texting and also using AIM on the phone. I also have email updates from work every 2 hours setup on Activesync.
One thing about the phone i find wierd is that activesync is always on and i have to keep shutting it down.
My phone is up to date with the new rom also i believe its 1.62.502.0
Again i am completely clueless when it comes to these things so if anyone has any step by step tips for me on exactly what to do id greatly appreciate it.
Thanx

annoying battery meter

does anyone else experience where their battery meter only decreases by 10%... at first i thought it was battery status.. it would go from 100%-90%-80% etc, so i opened the actual battery meter that is built and it does the same thing.. what i wouldnt give to see my battery meter go 100%-99%-98% etc... maybe im just to anal
I thought I was the only one!
I just got my 8525 yesterday - upgraded from the 8125. I noticed the battery meter "issue" also and it has been driving me nuts. I googled a little and couldn't find any information. I have reinstalled the Resco today plug 3 or 4 times thinking it was the problem.
Is there any fix? A registry hack? I hate 10% increments - would prefer 1% like my 8125 use to be. Can anyone help?

Your not the only one, and somewhere I have seen other posts on this so it's just standard. I have also tried other meters but they all seem to draw on the same battery info, i.e. the 10% at a time. I suppose it's not a critical matter unless your on your last 10% in which case it can suddenly become critical.
I haven't seen a solution but I would like to be proved wrong!
Mike
Dang, I have the same issue. I was hoping there was already a fix for it.
I keep thinking the 8125 did this as well at some point.
Either way, we definitely need a fix for this 10% decrement crap.
This maybe a dumb question.... When a device reports in such small incriments of 1% lets say.. Does'nt that sorta require more CPU power in the long run?? Better for the device not to report so much right ?? 10% left means hmm I should get to a charger in about 30mins..

Not dumb, very sensible in fact, just not very satisfying for us obsessive compulsives
Mike
i guess i will admit i must be obsessive compulsive... cause this shouldnt bother me as long as its halfway accurate.. but it does.. i think what bothers me is that you see it sit at 100% for a long time, then all of sudden you look and its 90%... just bothers the fk out of me..
Now that my therapy session is over...
Now here is a good question... does this happen the same way on the stock TyTn's and hermes? or is this just a cingular 8525 thing?
Happens the same on ALL Hermes devices, sadly...
This is the way the driver gives the battery status to WM. The only fix would be a new driver from HTC.
I think that this is a minor problem in a device almost perfect (in my opinion)
i wonder if its possible to steal the driver from the wizard.... hmmmm... unfortunately i wont get time to dig and see until this weekend
I have the same problem and I find it really annoying.

thanks faria, you are still my hero.. i will try to give that a shot tonight if i have time, i have to work till 11pm tonight then back in to work at 8am(not to mention the hour drive time to and from .... i did find the battery polling timer in the reg earlier today and its set to 5000.. if someone has the time and the know how they are more than welcome to take a crack at this...
FYI just a regular copy/paste of that file cause the battery meter not work, lol... will maybe try a cab later

i take a look and compare to the wizard to.
We've been banging our heads against this one on the TyTn for a while with no success. Good luck! Nothing like a new perspective to maybe find something!
I'd actually thought the 1.34 ROM didn't show 100% initially after powersave though. That's interesting b/c it was on Cingular's fix list from the 1.31 ROM...

funny you mention that.. on wakeup on the factory battery meter is shows "unknown status" for about 2-3 seconds before displaying the actual status of the battery... and glad to see i am not the only one that is anal about it

Device.exe process using 100% cpu slowing everything down to a crawl

Hi everyone, I'm new here, couple of weeks ago if you'd asked me what a prophet was, I'd I've talked about religion. I was given a hand-me-down imate jamin that i"m trying to get working properly.
The prophet in question was previously working properly without any issues, the previous owner had just gotten a new battery for it when the issues started. The phone slowed down to a crawl, nothing could get done with it, takes like 1 min to open a text msg, around 10sec to answer a phone call. Having gotten it and thinking its a firmware problem, I did a hard reset, nothing, then I upgraded the firmware to the latest JAMin_WWE_213923_2139123_022021_ship.zip again, nothing!
Funnily enough, this behaviour is erratic, do a soft reset, load sktools and the cpu usage app reports that all is fine, give it some time then ka-boom! the cpu usage gets maxed out by device.exe seemingly for no reason.
Anyone here ever seen behaviour like this? If you have or just have a suggestion on what I can try, please post. I'm not sure what to do now since I'm on the latest firmware and I don't know where I can get a rom for wm6 for the phrophet. I"m hoping upgrading to wm6 will fix this issue.
Thanks in advance.
John.

Same problem with my HCT Diamond.
Dia Duit Rom.
Trying to find a solution!
Firmware
You could try a cooked rom, but make sure you perform a hard SPL first as this will save your prophet from bricking.
The other thing is have you tried a different battery as a bad battery can seriously affect the phones performance espcially if it is a cheap copy.
If your'e worried about flashing have a deep read of the following link
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Prophet
Hope this helps
Sorry mate, just seen your reply.
The phone eventually died, won't charge, nothing doing, looks like its bricked. I moved to a Kaiser, which then started having 3g problems, though I got a temporary fix by keeping it on 2g.
Now I have a mytouch which needs unlocking. I think me and htc should part ways, I'm yet to have a simple good time with any of their products.
As regards the prophet... is there a way I can resuscitate it? It wont' charge, no light shows either on usb or charging from a normal charger.
Thanks
John
It's not like that. HTC phones work good as long as you keep them good. I'm not saying you didn't keep it good but maybe some softwares ruined your Pocket PC. ANytime this happens, a hard reset and revert from backup should solve most of your problems.
Looking at your Prophet, smells like the battery is dead? Try changing and see if that helps.
Regards,
Carty..
This looks like a day that is going to be special. This phone has been in my drawer over a year now, I'd given up on it long ago. Well I stripped one of my old chargers down to the wire, charged the battery manually for a few mins and presto the phone has come on.
It's still slow as hell, so I see device.exe is still hogging cpu.
Time to review the prophet roms, been a while since I checked on it.
happens the same to me too
for me this issue rises up when i connect with my pc :S
due to the calnot or calpd or poutlook or someother exe ... it streches the cpu usage to a 100%
some ppl say that having the correct time zone helps u out in both, the pc and ppc solves the issue ... well i have windows 7 (UTC) and in ppc (GMT ... using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401161 ) does it make any difference ?
now the only option i got is to either hard reset although this happened with my previous ROM too :S

HTC Performance (overclocking cab) safe for 8525?

I want to overclock my 8525 as it's really been slow lately, and I've read a lot of threads about PocketHackmaster not working correctly and xcpu scaler not being correct for our CPU, etc, etc.
But I came across some good feedback on the HTC Performance cab working very well on Apache and some other HTC phones to make them work a lot faster with little noticable drop off on battery life, and I wanted to see if anyone knows if this overclocking cab will work safely on our 8525's before I tinker with it (I don't want to risk a hard reset).
Thanks.

Where's the thread info for this HTC Performance cab? If it workes on hermes, then I'd have thought we would have heard about it? I would say don't do it based on this thread....

If you search on google, you can find there are a few posts saying you shouldn't be doing this, if you want to have a longer battery and a longer life of your device. If you want to upgrade in the next 3 to 6 months why not, try it out. Here is the file, ... I would not go near it, happy enough to use my current ROM the way it is.
Check this post what it did to the kaiser.
Here is the cab for those who's willing to try.
Edit, don't bother it doesn't work, the mod has advised if you look at the post and the rest of the thread above.

I did a Google search on overclocking after going thru XDA first, and came across this thread on PPC Geeks: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=11573
I've tried xpu scaler before and didn't see any difference (and subsequently read a couple threads saying it wasn't made for the Samsung CPU in our 8525's), so I wanted to see if there was another one out there that could reliably upgrade the speed of the 8525.
I may give this one a whirl and let you know unless anyone has any other suggestions on one I should try instead...
Ok, so I've been running this HTC Performance cab for a few days now on my 8525, and I definitely think it's running smoother with it on (I was just messing around turning it on and off and went to the same programs, etc, and I see a noticable difference in how fast things are opening and closing)
I have it set on 520 mhz 'maximal cpu speed', with 'enable dynamic cpu frequence changing' checked
I haven't had a chance to check battery life as I was playing around most of yesterday installing a new spb pocket plus program and messing with adding icons, etc, but I'll report back and let you know if I notice anything different with battery life as well.

forgive me but how do you install this cab or how do you work it just to try it you know please get back to me
I installed it on my Dopod 838pro running Schaps 4.30 yesterday.
Nothing happened for a while.
No menu or shortcut to activate the speed up either.
When I got home last night, the Dopod is practically dead!
It would power on & flicker out before it completely boots up.
Luckily, I had my firiend's old Dopod in my drawer.
Took a charged battery from the spare and my 'bricked' Dopod came to life.
But died again later that night.
Hard resting it did no good either.
Looks like it flattens the battery & then refuses to charge it!
Today, I put another freshly charged battery, booted it and flashed in Satin Normal.
Right now, it is connected to my notebook and when turned on shows the battery as slowly charging. Hope it stays fixed!
I recommend all folks avoid this patch!
Stay tuned!
Phew!
After waiting anxiously overnight, it appears that re-flashing my ROM (from Schaps 4.30 to Black Satin Normal) seems to have fixed my problem.
Battery is still at 90%!

Does Peep use any battery/data if I don't use it?

I don't use twitter and so I have no login details stored. Does it still use battery and data despite this? I have read that signing up and then going in to the settings and changing the update interval to a long time can save battery but I would have thought at the moment with no login it will never be checking for updates?

I don't see why it would be doing anything if you haven't signed up.
I'd install Taskiller and see if it's running.
Has to said, I doubt it'll make any real difference if your phone's getting automatic facebook and email updates.
Good point, I am running push email with gmail so that is going to push battery life back a bit. I disabled all the facebook stuff as I don't need that either. Getting almost 3 days out of it which is pretty good but still feels poor as I was used to an E51 which would usually manage about 5! Still this phone is way better...
3 days!
I wouldn't expect to get that kind of battery life at all so I think you're already doing well!
Well I say 3 days but I do turn it off at night so it is only from about 8.30am until 11pm most days...
Wow, I only get about a day out of my Hero, but then again I use it really heavily. Browsing, emailing, texting, GPS, music player and calls.
The great thing about the Hero is that it has a standard USB port at the bottom and you can charge it anywhere. I was at a friends a few days ago and my Hero was starting to run a little dry. I took a spare USB cable lying around and plugged it into my friends laptop for an hour or two. Hey presto - my phone was good to go for another few hours!

You can use standard USB Mini-B connectors?
*plugs in*
Well I'll be damned!
What the...! I didn't realize the Hero had a standard connector either! Looking at it, it sure doesn't look standard but it does work. Thanks for that
is doing that a good idea? Tried it on mine and it's quite a squeeze... i'd rather not do it if it'll damage the socket.
It's made for the miniusb, never used anything else on mine (cable sent with the phone still in the box)

Who's been eating my battery?

When I first got my TP2 the battery life was great. Then I started adding tons of applications and tweaks and then suddenly one day the battery started to go crazy, it would drain in under 4 hours, with absolutely nothing running.
I started trying to track down the culprit. One thing I noticed right away is that my data connection would come on randomly. I'd shut it down, then a little while later is was on again. I turned off all the automatic updates I could think if (email, weather, stock, Windows update). With data, BT, wifi all turned off, screen off, nothing running, the battery would get hot and every minute would lose a few more percent. The phone was at this point basically useless. Because task manager showed nothing running I figured the battery had gone bad, or horrors, some fault maybe in the TP2. I took it to TMobile and got a replacement.
On my new phone, battery life seemed OK again. So, I did my Resco restore but it didn't work because I had password protection on the phone when I did the backup (not the TMobile password, but the one before that you get during boot up), so on restore it wouldn't let me into the phone saying the password was invalid (apparently something I should have known. grrr, bad Resco!).
So, I manually reinstalled everything again, not thinking to do it one piece at a time because I thought my battery troubles were over. I was wrong. Once it was all loaded up again, the exact same battery sucking began, and the data connection coming on again.
One thing I had noticed is that if I turned off TF3D I could see the icon for ESET virus protection running (it doesn't show in task manager). I knew I'd installed it, but because the TouchFlo screen hid the icon I'd forgotten about it. So, I went to that and clicked 'update' wondering if it was automatically checking for updates and so accessing the internet. But 'update' just gave an error message. So I figured the anti-virus wasn't going to be much use to me until updates were working, so uninstalled the application. BAM! (c) Emeril, battery problems ended!
I did a little googling and saw a couple of other references to ESET and battery drain on other phones, so I think that's been the problem. I don't know if the problem was the software itself draining the battery in its normal state, or if it was maybe constantly trying to make an internet connection to check for updates (but because that feature wasn't working it just kept trying).
I'd like to point out that I am in no way maligning ESET, it's totally my fault: 1) they do not yet claim compatibility for the TP2 ( http://www.eset.com/products/mobileantivirus.php ), and 2) I picked up the .cab from a link from one of the phone forums (not sure where or how any more, I have loaded up so much stuff), not from the ESET web site, so I could well have an older or bad version. I thought the software was freeware, but looking on the site I see it's just a free 30 day trial, so it's quite possible I had a cracked version. Their official version may well work with no problems.
But I did want to post this warning in case anyone else runs into battery drain issues.
Hi Iam an official reseller for the Eset antivirus. Just installed a version on my phone, will report back if drains my battery. How quick did it drain. If any probs i will report back to eset, to get sorted. Could just be the patched version. Funny enough the very firts pc version i got was a pirated version. Liked it so much much i thought sod it and paid for it.
Let me know if you wish to purchase it I can do a bit of a forum discount for you. same goes for pc version.
Hi, thanks for helping to try to get this resolved. The software ran very fast and I think could become a valuable addition once the WM6 viruses become more prominent.
The drain was *rapid* I'd say from 100 to 0 in about 3 hours, so if you do have the same problem, you should know right away. Also, the battery got warm to extremely warm, I might even say hot to the point that it was getting uncomfortable to hold. That certainly leads me to believe there were possibly two problems. One being that the software was for some reason maybe running aggressively in the background. The other that it appears to have been trying to connect to the internet every so often. I'm not sure exactly how often, it seemed somewhat random, but I'd say at least every 15 minutes (I would keep turning off the data connection whenever I saw it running). So I don't know if these are one and the same problem (that the software was trying to update and that was the code that was going out of control). Now that I have the phone working well again, I can have the data on constantly without anywhere near the drain I was experiencing, so the data alone was probably only a minor part of the issue.
When I tried to 'update' I got an error (I can't remember what it said). Is this still the case with the current version? If not then I can assume I have an old version and maybe the battery issue is gone now.
If you like I'd be willing to dl the 30 day trial and see what the latest version does.
Several hours later no battery drain. The software should only update itself 1 a week by default and at most every 3 days if set. Download the trial give a whirl. PM me if you want to buy and I can get a cuople of quid off, same goes for pc based one. This is extended to anyone else aslo.
Don't use any antivirus program on your phone. I've tried several antivirus trials on several htc phones (s620, s710, touch pro) and they all showed extreme battery drain. Since then I've stood clear of any antivirus program on my phone.
Well nearly 24hrs later and no significant bettery drain. I even ran a couple of scans. There is no reason why an antivirus should drain a battery, otherwise no one would have them on laprops either. It was probably down to the pirated version you had.
Let me know if you have any probs.
I never used a pirated one, I only used trials (that's why I tried so many ).
Maybe it's a different story these days, might have to try one again some time...
