HTC Shift (CDMA Version) and EVDO - Shift General

Does the CDMA flavor of this device support Sprint's EVDO Rev A network? or just 1x EVDO (which kinda sucks)

Verizon CDMA model N1 compatible with KDDI AU network in Japan?

Title pretty much says it all. Is the Nexus One variant intended for the Verizon network in the U.S. compatible with the CDMA network of Japanese carrier KDDI au?
This site here: http://euc.jp/misc/cellphones.en.html
claims that KDDI au's 3g network is "CDMA2000 1x 800MHz", and Wikipedia claims that was replaced with "CDMA 1X WIN (1xEV-DO Rev A)". I see that the Motorola Droid to supports CDMA2000 1x 800/1900MHz and EVDO rev. A, which suggests maybe they're compatible, but I don't see a tech spec breakdown for the Nexus that looks anything like that.

Samsung Epic 4G

Hi Guys, dose anyone have any idea if the samsung Epic 4G for sprint supports GSM networks??
as I know it's 4G phone for sprint, works on Wimax networks, and I heard that it's GSM capable as well, is that true?
Thx
I hope that's true... but I think It hasn't a sim slot
Isn't sprint a cdma Telco? Otherwise you'll be hearing ppl like me buying the epic and using it I'm aus. I would love a gsm sgs with kb
Sent from my Apple Newton 2100
I'm pretty sure it's not. Sprint are CDMA (and their "4G" is WiMax). Their phones do not normally have any GSM capabilities.

No, it does not have GSM. It's CDMA only and specifically (at least currently) U.S. only.

Actually, the Epic 4G is CDMA/WCDMA capable. WCDMA being a hybrid of different GSM technologies. If you go into the Phone Info Test Mode (*#4636*1111#) > Phone Information, you can see how to change how the phone's radio interacts with different cell towers in the area. While in the US, there's no point in having WCDMA on because there are no WCDMA service providers here. However, when you go overseas... well, you get the picture.
The only reason this phone really isn't strictly GSM capable is because the radio isn't compatible, and there's no room for a SIM card to contain GSM network subscriber data.
"W-CDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access), UMTS-FDD, UTRA-FDD, or IMT-2000 CDMA Direct Spread is an air interface standard found in 3G mobile telecommunications networks. It is the basis of Japan's NTT DoCoMo's FOMA service and the most-commonly used member of the UMTS family and sometimes used as a synonym for UMTS.[1] It utilizes the DS-CDMA channel access method and the FDD duplexing method to achieve higher speeds and support more users compared to most time division multiple access (TDMA) schemes used today.
While not an evolutionary upgrade on the airside, it uses the same core network as the 2G GSM networks deployed worldwide, allowing dual-mode operation along with GSM/EDGE; a feat it shares with other members of the UMTS family."

[Q] GSM Evo 3d on WIND in Canada

Looking for some expert advice... Assuming the early specs on the Evo 3d are true, will this GMS variant of the Evo 3d work on wind in Canada? I have a Telus Hero I'm ready to throw through the window, and wondering if I should hold out until the GSM version of the Evo3d hits the streets?
Wind Network Source: windmobile.ca/support/faq/#question-2
AWS/1700 Mhz/BandIV network.
HTC Evo 3d Specs Source: phonearena.com/phones/HTC-EVO-3D-GSM_id5367

UMTS: YES
HSPA: Yes (HSDPA 14.4 Mbit/s) HSUPA 5.76 Mbit/s
WiMAX (4G): Yes (802.16e)

Technical Questions

1. Why does CDMA 3g max out around 2.2 Mb/s while GSM 3g can be so much more?
4.4 Mb/s on VZW's strong CDMA network would be the greatest thing since sliced bread.
I have a Dinc2 that has an unlocked SIM. I can only get Edge/2G while in Canada using a local SIM card. I have set up the APNs.
2. Is this limitation in my phone, or do they have some sort of agreement with VZW to throttle my speeds in North America?
3. What is the max GSM data speeds a VZW world phone can achieve while using the GSM capabilities? I have droped a T-mob sim in here before, but have been limited again to EDGE/2g.
Thank you!
Most GSM bands worldwide are 850/1900 (like AT&T). It's possible that you were on a Canadian provider that utilized AWS bands (1700/2100 like T-Mobile). I doubt your phone is pentaband, which would enable you to use it on any GSM network and get 3G. I highly doubt Verizon would try to throttle you outside their network while on a foreign SIM.
As for speeds, CDMA doesn't have the speed that UMTS/HSDPA does. I'm not entirely sure why. I can get up to 5Mbps on an UMTS network. I'm not as familiar with Verizon's CDMA network. I've only experienced their LTE (which is smoking fast )
Wasn't me!! I didn't do it!

[Q] Choosing between unlocked Verizon G2 and unlocked Sprint G2

I have the option of ONLY getting a Verizon LG G2 and a Sprint LG G2. However, I will be using whatever phone I get on T-Mobile in the US. The bands supported for both phones are below. Which one should I get for the best compatibility with the T-Mobile network?
Sprint - LS980 [17]
GSM 850/1900
CDMA 800/850/1900
UMTS 850/1900
LTE 1900(25)/800(26)/2500(41)
Verizon - VS980 [16]
GSM 850/900/1800/1900
CDMA 850/1900
UMTS 850/900/1900/2100
LTE 1700(4)/700(13)
Get the Verizon version. Their phones have the GSM portion unlocked out of the box. You'll only get 3G on T-Mobile where they have refarmed on 1900.
There is no such thing as an "unlocked" Sprint LG G2. Infact Sprint locks out the GSM portion of their phones to domestic GSM networks. Don't even bother.
