[Q] GSM Evo 3d on WIND in Canada - Networking

Looking for some expert advice... Assuming the early specs on the Evo 3d are true, will this GMS variant of the Evo 3d work on wind in Canada? I have a Telus Hero I'm ready to throw through the window, and wondering if I should hold out until the GSM version of the Evo3d hits the streets?

Desire has AT&T 3g bands?

http://www.htc.com/www/product/desire/specification.html
Code:
Network Bands2
Europe:
HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
Asia Pacific:
HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
I know its not under HSPA but it being GSM 850/1900 thought maybe it would.. my thought though and it maybe just stupidly true that it means it will work on att 2g.

I have a Telus Australia Touch HD that does 850/1900 and I get 3g on AT&T, because of the 850mhz. Theres no 850 in the 3g frequency set of the Nexus One, only for the 2g frequency set.
HSPA/WCDMA = 3G/3.5G
GSM = 2G/2.5G
The maximum level of service it will receive on AT&T is EDGE (2.5G), at least for this model. There may be a version of the Desire coming to AT&T including the 3G bands.
I figured as much, maybe the supposedly rumored nexus one FCC slight model change will have 3g for ATT. That was my only reason to possibly get the Desire over my amazingly fast nexus

Telstra has confirmed the Desire with NextG (3.5G) which is on 850. Should be out early april
grrr. now its decision time...

Keep in mind an imported Desire will probably cost a small fortune, not that the N1 isn't expensive (unlocked), but I'm sure the Desire will be a good bit more.
To give you some idea, an imported HD2 from Australia (works on 850 3G with AT&T, after being unlocked) runs about $750-800 at the lowest I've seen, with shipping. I'm not sure what other costs are involved when you factor in customs, etc. Then of course for warranty you'd have to rely on shipping back and forth between Australia, which is just a hassle.
I have purchased an imported phone previously (Telstra Touch HD), but I don't think I will be doing that again.

DHD, No North America?

Is it true that the Hardware of the DHD will not ALLOW 3G to work in NA?
I live in Canada and am craving to get the DHD but if it doesn't support 3G, it's not worth it.
Maybe Nexus 2 will be better.
Here is why i am asking, FCC information
http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/17/htc-desire-hd-hits-the-fcc-lacks-american-love/
Hi bteljuice. Maybe it doesn't allow that work in NA. But technology now a days are improving it might work on that.
It depend what frequencies your service provider uses.
The DHD supports
2G: 850, 900, 1,800, and 1,900 MHz (quad-band)
3G: 900 and 2,100 MHz (dual-band)
HSDPA (14.4 Mbit/s)
HSUPA (5.76 Mbit/s)
Also, i was under the impression that the HTC Inspire was the US version of the DHD
Basically, the American frequencies for 3G are different. I think that if I remember correctly, the best case scenario that you will have is 3G upload and 2G speeds.
It's these reasons, along with 4G, why the Inspire 4G is the Desire HD in the States.

Thread is old. Second poster never should have replied with useless info. Thread was before Telus DHD and inspire was released. Obviously they have been out for awhile now so this thread is dead.

AT&T 3G

Is there any way to get 3G (AT&T) working on the MT4G?
AT&T is soon getting 4G (HSPA+) so wouldn't it be able to connect to 4G soon?
Does anyone know?

Nope sorry boss, you will be on edge only. AT&T need either 850 mHZ or 1900 mHZ for 3g and Mytouch 4g uses 2100 mHZ
And, the two companies were unable to negotiate a 3G roaming agreement:

The Galaxy S2 will run on 4G/LTE networks on HSDPA and HSUPA in a quad band configura

Ok what to make of this? Will this run on CDMA or not? Is CDMA synonymous with LTE?

I can't speak to whether or not it will run LTE as I don't know how Verizon does this or for 4G for that matter as I don't know much about how that works... but the international version (only one available to north america by ordering from abroad) is NOT CDMA. It requires a SIM for it to work, CDMA is non-SIM
Edit: If I am wrong don't crucify me it's just my crude understanding
Its the way I understand it too but the dude has the phone in his hands. Granted, this doesn't make him an expert but it makes me wonder.

The SGSII version that has been announced is a GSM based phone meaning no CDMA.

CDMA does not mean LTE. This is not a LTE phone as it doesn't have the LTE bands to support it.

They probably meant there will be different versions of the phone. One version with quad band GSM (UK version about to be released) and dual band CDMA version that might come out in the future.
That being said, the SGSII uses HSPA+ 21Mbps speeds. Bell Mobility in Canada labels 4G with HSPA+ up to 21-42 Mbps. Check with your carrier for their network speeds. Carriers label HSPA+ with 4G to attract more customers but this is really not 4G, HSPA+ it is an evolution of 3G (basically higher speeds).
Hope that makes sense...
It does make sense. I just wish they'd announce that it's coming to verizon with lte capabilities already. Even if they said it'd be a year, at least I'd know. Thanks for the inputs.
yeah bell is stupid like that... in reality it's more like 3G+ or 3.5G

Will my international GT-I9000 be compatible with T-mobile 3G speed?

I've seen a lot of isues with phones on t-mobile locked on EDGE speed...
I was wondering if my phone, a galaxy s international (french) was compatible with 3G or maybe H+.
I can't seems to find any good informations...
Wikipedia : Dual band CDMA2000/EV-DO Rev. A 800 and 1,900 MHz;
WiMAX 2.5 to 2.7 GHz;
802.16e 2.5G (GSM/GPRS/EDGE): 850, 900, 1,700, 1,800, 1,900, and 2,100 MHz;
3G (HSDPA 7.2 Mbit/s, HSUPA 5.76 Mbit/s): 900, 1,900, and 2,100 MHz;
but i think it include every version
Unfortunately your phone won't get 3G but you can get AT&T 3G. It's weird you have 1700 MHz 2G. I wonder if that could be unlocked for 3G? That's the only 3G frequency you are missing.
If you are asking about T-Mobile in the U.S. then perhaps...T-Mo/USA is re-farming some 1900 MHz for 3G operation in some select cities/locales. And your phone does support 900/1900/2100 MHz 3G, so in theory, and if in certain locations, then yes, you may be able T-Mo 3G via 1900 MHz.
From the press release:
As part of the company’s network modernization effort, T-Mobile also plans to launch 4G HSPA+ service in the 1900 MHz band in a large number of markets by the end of the year.
http://www.airportal.de/
http://www.tmonews.com/2012/07/tmob...omers-off-2g-network-with-upgrade-incentives/
I've heard about Los Angeles, New York City, Miami, Boston, Washington DC and there have been individual reports from many other locales.
AT&T does also have 3G on 1900 MHz in some locales: http://www.cellularmaps.com/att_850_1900.shtml
But I am not sure if they have ceded some of these to T-Mo as part of the failed merger, and/or transitioned those to 850 MHz?
Both AT&T and T-Mo do offer pre-paid SIMs and services - and there are some MVNOs like StraightTalk reselling AT&T and T-Mo network access.
