Evening all
I have just been playing with Snapvue, and when I press the Comm Manager button it doesn't do anything
I am sure that is used to open the Comm Manager, should it and how do I fix it in the Snapvue side if it's stopped working?
In Vista the Comm Manager button works and brings up Comm Manager.
Cheers

I got the same problem here, did you find a solution?
well, my shift was already like that since the first time I got it
I think the button doesn't work at snapvue
same here. The button only works in Vista, not in SnapVue. Seems to be normal...

hmmm... i am 99.9% sure mine has worked...
Yes, same here,
I think we often enough forget what worked and what did not, before we changed things and after having changed them, we think things had worked which have not worked from the start.
Did I make myself clear? I had the same impression that it worked, when I got it, but now I think, no, it never did. Have a look into the manual. The button is only referred to in the context of Vista not with Snapvue.
S.
I think we'll just blame Bill Gates. Always worked fine for me
Hi Alan,
while I wrote my entry you sent your 99.9 %.
This should easily be solved.
Is there anyone there who can confirm that the button works under Snapvue?
S.
PS hyrex is certainly right, no doubt about that and Jobs and Balmer and Page and and and...
I'm pretty much certain that it never worked under SnapVue and probably was never intended to. Of course, all we need is one person whose comm manager button does work under SnapVue to speak up, and we'll know for sure!
Regards,
Dave
Adding to the comm manager button doubts
I felt pretty sure too that my comm manager button worked in snap vue, but after f3 resetting, it doesn't again, I now have to go to setting -> Comm manager. Could it be that so many of us are simply hallucinating?
Yes,
I am sure I did and so did all the others. Our wishes may be strong, but the wall is still harder...
S.
I am ABSOLUTELY sure mine did NOT work under snapvue because I remembered it anoying me.
So, no doubts here...
greetz,
Pfeffa-rah
I suspect this will part of the project in terms of getting the wireless and B/Tooth to work under SnapVue
Uh yeah, for sure, it does not work out of the box...I hadn't liberated mine so I checked...
I have now, and woa...thanks to all involved. Makes this machine my dream come true.
that button doesn't work in snapvue, period.

First of all, I would like to make clear I'm not slating VJ at all in any way, I think the effort he puts into developing all the programs that he does is fantastic.
However, I installed VJ Candella on my universal about a week ago, and since having had the flash on for a total of about 30minutes or perhaps an hour, my flash has gone from white to green to dim blue and now nothing.
I had VJ Candella Lite assigned to the 'backlight' button, so it is also possible that the button got pressed in my pocket and the flash was actually on for many hours rather than the 30min or so I consciously had it on for.
Either way I would highly recommend against using VJ Candella. Unlike many other phones, the flash is NOT a standard LED, and I think it burns out with too much use.
VJ already makes clear on his site that he cannot guarantee the effects using the program might have in the long run, but I'm sure he doesn't realise that it could do this.
It is probably the case that you can use the flash for say 30seconds a day, but I would be very wary how much.
Cheers,
Dave
Dave, reading through the VJCandela thread, you can see several people have reported the same problem (and results ) - I've stated that I wouldn't use it for more then a short time, bursts of a few seconds. Earlier last week I released a version in that thread that limits the bursts to 15 seconds (I think).
It's good advice not to sit on the flash and keep it burning, and it definitely seems to be a bit of a crap led, given that it has the ability to burn itself out. But I apologise for your experience, and urge everyone to use caution in the use of the app. But remember, it's a hardware problem, and how the hardware is used....
V
Dave, do know that you can disable all the buttons apart from the power button when the Universal is off? I think that should solve the problem for those who are still using the program.
@Vijay - I don't blame you at all - in fact I still thank you for writing the software, because it was a very good idea, except for the hardware is crap!
@richardlai - I have all the buttons disabled except power anyay, but somehow the power button seems to get pressed many times while in my pocket, and hence after that all that is required is one tap of the backlight key (shouldn't have set the app to run from there...). Thanks anyway!

Right... You may want to consider getting a leather case with a belt clip, but just don't run around too fast with it; I did that and it dropped...
In my case, I assigned Vijay Candelite as one of the 7 apps in the "Start Menu". Thus, the only way to light it up is through the "Start Menu". To turn it OFF, I just press any button. I never had any problem with Vijay's app. Thanks!

Hi, I would like to reset Vista but I simply cannot!
I tried pressing F3 button on boot, I see the screen that says to press "Y" to confirm but when I press Y, it reboots by itselft without starting the process.
I have also tried from Vista Control Center, in Advanced Option, I click on the button to reset Windows (not SnapVue), the Shift reboot and Vista boots again...
Am I so stupid?!
Yes, I am so stupid that I have not red carefully what the Shift say:
"Do you want to TERMINATE the process?"
Obviously if I press Yes it exits!
Sorry for the silly post!
It is not so silly, I have this before. I took it to htc care center to fix!

I still get into this situation. That one is really catchy. I pressed Y instead of N few times even on the other day where I was messing around the system to break BT, SD Locks. I was unsuccessful in breaking the BT and SD locks though.
Thanks
Ram
I hope there is an easy fix to my issue.
My windows mobile side is completely dead... all you get is a blank screen.
I am not sure how to tell if this is software or a hardware issue.
Can I just re-install the windows mobile OS, or do I need to use the recovery partition?
Any help would be appreciated.
Have you taken the battery out and put back in, rebooted Vista? Do that first bfore coming back to us...good luck.

Yes I have. I am hoping I don't have to loose my Vista setup. I can't get WM to do anything.
hi
i have the same proble,
y recovered from the recovery utility and the problem is the same, a black snapvue.
the sound also stopped working.
ive tried almost everything that i found here and nothing seems to work i allways get a conection error message.
i realy dont know what else to do, because im in argentina and i have to ship it to the us, for repairs.
Does the recovery utility that restores from the recovery partition also rebuild the WM side of the phone?
No. The system recovery partition is for the Vista side only.
Regards,
Dave
So is there a way to re-install WM side?
Just got off the phone with HTC.... the Shift is on its way to be repaired by them.
Same here. I believe it is caused by one of the Vista update.
Complete blank screen at WM6. Clear SnapVue does not work.
Guys, I managed to fix the problem:
http://www.pocketables.net/2008/05/how-to-hard-res.html
Just follow the instruction. Then you unplug everything and reboot the machine. It's back to normal.

I had seen those instructions before I sent my shift off to the factory, but shift tech support seemed like they were convinced it would need to go back to the factory... so that is what I did.
Wish someone (smarter than me) could write a little program or batch file that could do that.

well i can try and implement the task 28 sending in a program that automatically does it so no playing around with mtty ... I'll look how easily is that done. I have compiled some apps before that do a specific task instead of firing up mtty, but for the shift there's some extra things to look out for
until then just do the enterbootloader app then run mtty according to the instructions.
Power management in Snapvue was at fault
I had the problem where Snapvue was blank too. This was after loading a bunch of CAB files so I am not sure which one was at fault. The Snapvue button did not seem to work and I had to use a flick of the power button to flip to Vista and back again to the blank Snapvue screen.
Once in Vista I used the 'reset snapvue' utility which then started up Snapvue (took a few minutes).
So now with the Snapvue WM side back up I checked the power management options on the Advanced tab and saw that it was set to turn of the device if not used for 2 minutes. So I unchecked that option and now Snapvue is always there!
I am certain I did not change my power settings in the first place so anyway a blank Snapvue screen is most likely due to Snapvue being powered off.
Recently got my Shift and it was working fine. As of Windows update yesterday, SnapVUE is not working and the sound device does not seem to exist. I performed a reset of the Shift using Fn+3 key at boot in Vista However, SnapVUE is still giving me a blank screen.
Can some please help - I am not very tech oriented and would appreciate any simple steps I can try out on the device rather than have to send it back to HTC.
Thanks in advance,

I would suggest
1. Remove the power adapter, remove the battery and wait for 20 seconds and put back the battery and power adapter and turn on the device.
If the above method is not working..
2. Go to your comm manager on the Vista Side (top button on the right side of your display) click on Advanced Seettings button. This opens Advanced Settings dialog. Click on SnapVUE mode tab. Click on Reset SnapVUE. This will Hard Reset your SnapVUE that means it will delete all of your data on Windows Mobile side including your programs. If you liberated your SnapVUE, you have to reliberate it.

Hi all,
I seem to be experiancing intermittent problems with my HTC HD2 backlight/screen. When on external power with setting's "Dim after 1 min" and "turn off device after 2 Mins" the phone sometimes works as it should, other times the backlight only dims and the screen does not shut off. Real nuisence when receiving missed call's at night as the dimmed backlight stays on most of the times.
Its been back to HTC twice for repair and it seems to be coming back with the same problem after using it for a little while. On both occasions they have replaced the motherboard even though the fault sheet on the last repair said Faulty backlight. I phoned them up and the operative said the motherboard was replaced. Unless they got confused with the first repair.
However i have come across this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561832 "Post 10" which has the perfect mod for the registry, this is however aimed towards SE xperia X1 users, but has reference to it also being a HTC problem.
I have tried the following registry edit "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power\Timeouts\ACUserIdle: 120"
and it works perfectly just as the device should, the screen dims after 1 min and screen goes off after 2mins. Here comes the problem though, the edited registry values seem to return to there default of "0" when the device is reset or after a prolonged period of time. I am using Resco Registry to carry out the editing.
Is there a way i can get the HTC HD2 to remember/save this registry edit so that when the phone is "soft reset" it does not revert the above key back to Default I thought the registry edit is saved untill a "hard rest" is carried out.
Cheers
I would of thought that someone out of the 72 people that have viewed this thread would of been able to help, maybe im wrong. Im sure this is a common problem, unless im the only one with this bizzare problem. I have tried looking at other threads and none seem to bare the same patterns. Please help me out guyz.
Have a look at Mortscript. It's a scripting tool that allows you to create small text files that run simple commands on your device. You could create one to set the registry value as needed and place it in \Windows\Startup so it runs when you start your phone.
Please! Please! Does anyone have a fix for this? I am in the same boat as the OP. The registry trick works but reverts back after reboot. I hate having to leave the backlight on when my HD2 is connected to the PC. Plus if you press the red button it disconnects from the PC. Hookers & Beer for the man who finds a fix!

Errr.... my post was an answer.
Thank you johncmolyneux, i will look into the mortscript program, You reckon it will be hard to write a program for this? i am very suprised that other members on this forum have not come across this problem.

From what I've seen of Mortscript, it should be pretty simple to do what you want. I've seen many examples around the forums and it was obviously built with ease of use in mind. Just do some searching and I know you'll find what you need.
Good luck mate
