anychance of getting it on another share site I am having little luck downloading it from 2shared?

So this is a front end to the original FaceBook Mobile site...

Zshare and MediaFire Mirror Added

Well it loads fine on my vogue, doesn't show the keyboard button at the bottom of my screen but sometimes it opens the keyboard when I click on a dialog. Although unfortunatly for me it's just like the regular m.facebook.com site, after entering my user/pass it won't log in, just stays at the loading screen. If someone could only get a descent webkit browser up and running we could just use the iphone page.

Wait. Why would we need an entire WebKit browser up and running to access the iPhone version of Facebook? All we need is the iPhone User Agent
Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/1A543a Safari/419.3
I've tested on both Desktop Firefox and Netfront Browser 3.5 (the only mobile browser other than IEM I knew how to change the user agent) and it works for "Web Apps" like Facebook and Google. However, it's not a smooth experience, and I was hoping someone would develop a frontend to use the iPhone user agent.
Btw, would you consider releasing the source of this program? It'd be a better alternative to having internet shortcuts to web applications, since it'd allow users to strip away some features of IEM (eg. Zoom Out, Favorites) to allow for faster loading.

Hmmmm.....
I dont mean to be rude, but what is the difference between this and m.facebook.com?

yea..what is the difference between that and m.facebook.com?

This is just a frontend to it. The point being that you don't need many of the PIE functions for facebook so it's lighter on system resources and can do things like full screen etc.

can i see some screen shots?

it looks exactly like how it would look going to the mobile facebook on your PIE, personally I like PIE because I have SPB PocketPlus installed and it allows me to flick up and down the page

Any ideas when an application like the one for blackberry will be released? Actually I think even that one is a little limited.

I just want a fast running running app that allows me to upload photo/videos, check my messages, update my status and give me a quick review of my friend list.

How does it work?

I was trying this past weekend to sell something on Craigslist. I remembered a while back that I could take a couple pics of my things to sell on my MDA and post it right from the phone. Now it doesn't work. I get this error saying that it can't process my request. I did a little homework and found out that the site has somehow blocked people from posting ads from their phones. How does the site know I'm posting from my phone?
from what i know by default your browser of choice has a name it uses to identify itself to a website. using schap's advance config 2.02.1.0.0 there is a feature u can check the broswer name, by default it is set to HTC_P4350 Mozilla/4.0 (for my wing) which i am sure website pick up as a mobile browser maybe set it to what the default IE on your computer shows.
maybe you can try using Opera Mobile and masking it as a desktop??
can Netfront do that? i have no idea....
With the Advance config version i mentioned above u can rename the browser agent and yes most websites dont pick up that opera mini is mobile ie myspace from pocket IE will display lame text groups for checking things... just based on the broswer where as opera mini 4 it picks up the normal myspace page if that makes sense.
alright. i'll give it a shot

Yes, netfront can do that.
steps..
1)go to its options>misc tab
2)edit/make a user agent as following..
Code:
title:IE
user-agent:Mozilla/4.08 (compatible; Windows NT/5.1) 6.0
appName:MSIE
appVersion:6.0
appCodeName:Mozilla
language/platform: en / Windows NT 5.1

New Opera Mini 4.1 version released !!

Hello,
Today was released to the public Opera Mini v4.1
You can download it here, or here for the signed versions.
One of the new features of this version is Direct address input, that makes a lot easier to input any web address.
But I'm having a trouble with it.
I'm using the latest Esmertec Jbed, build 20080222.3.1, and Opera Mini (all versions) runs in full screen without up and down bar. And without that I can't activate the keyboard...
Does anyone knows how to prevent Opera Mini to lauch in fullscreen??
By the way, here's the latest Esmertec Jbed version
Yeah, the best browser for low traffic, i`m using it on my MPx200
wow amazing we can actually download and upload files through opera mini now.
cheers does anyone know how to stop the anoying "do you want to let Opera on the web" (or something similar)?? I tried all the signed Midlett installs, but none of them worked, just got a error saying "Midlet no signed". Ended up installing Opera Mini unsigned. (Using TAO Java)
Cheers,

Try with Esmertec Java
"Opera claims the new version is 50% faster than Opera Mini 4.0"
can anyone confirm this ? if this is true this alone would make it worth upgrading.
also I have my Opera Mini set up as default browser thru that hack that's going around. if I upgrade do I have to do that over ? And will I lose my bookmarks and everything ?
thanks for the help !
4.1 is supposed to handle downloads now too! About time...
Yup that is very true noellenchris, and it works very good on my S710 using latest esmertec jbed!!!

I thought I read somewhere that opera 4.1 is ".. UP to 50% faster than 4.0 ..." in the Kaiser Software section".
If you install 4.1, you have to redo your bookmarks, speed dials, rss feeds, etc. To me, it's worth it. I can see the speed increase in page rendering and the auto completion for a web address is a nice time saving feature as well. There is a minor bug though ... you can't backspace when typing an web address. You have to 'insert symbol' in the drop down box to edit the web address. I uninstalled 4.0 for 4.1. But you can install 4.1 and still keep 4.0 if you wanted to since these are two diferent versions of the same app.

Or does it only work with JAVA??
I see all downloads there is .jar .jad and blackberry versions

Thought it was always a JAVA application, would love to see a native PPC version though.

yeah, we all know that, but that's not what we want. We want Direct address input enable and to be able to use the soft keyboard (for example on my Prophet). And because Opera mini stays in Fullscreen, due to the upper and lower bars, we can't acess the soft keyboard. Get it??
By the way, my father has an Sony Ericsson K800i, I tested a few minutes ago, and the version of Operamini for that mobile has an option to enable/disable the fullscreen. Damn it!!

Works like a charm with esmertec jbed. I had some trouble downloading the signed version, since downloading from pocketIE automatically launched the tao midlet manager (which didn't recognize the bertificate btw), so i ended up going to mini.opera.com/beta with firefox with wap plugin installed and grabbing the high memory .jad signed with multiple certificates from there
Having signed version allows to permanently allow access to internet and filesystem.
For the direct address input - it seems to work only with numerical keys (so a sip like phone pad should work). Disabling the direct url input allows to use normal keyboard SIP or hardware keyboard just like in previous version.
Downloading really does work - that's probably the best feature of new opera - no more pocketIE launching needed
Overall, i really like the new version. The only change i would like to see in in is allowing to use hardware keyboard with direct URL entry.

PRE- Beta of Firefox!

Mozilla has for a long time been engaged in Firefox Mobile for Windows Mobile to compete with, for example. Opera Mobile and Internet Explorer Mobile. Now that Mozilla released a pre-beta release so users who want it can try the new browser. It is very important to say that there may be bugs, etc.. so it will probably not get the same experience as such. Opera Mobile or the new Internet Explorer 6, because the stability will not be so high.
You are very welcome to make your experience of the program below in comments.
You can download it HERE. You may think why is it called Fennec? That's because is the development name for Firefox Mobile.
By the way, haven't seen it here. That's why I post it
downloading now wil try it soon
Tried to open it after installing resulting in a very slow diamond but no explorer
To beta for me
Just tried it, but no response...
i cannot type anything web adress or anything else??
i dont have keyboard?!?!
yes, i read the news at pocketpcitalia.com
...isn't it for touch PRO only??

UCWEB one of the best browsers out there!

Repost from my other post for HTC Dash (Excalibur) This version is for the Snap:
Mobile Browser for our HTC Dash 3G Snap, its called UCWEB Super Browser 6.63. This is the formal non-beta release, it is very stable (has not crached or froze up yet and I've been using it for a few days), it is very fast, has TONS of options and well (I hate to say it) is a bit better then Opera Mobile. It works flawlessly with Google (like Googles new "my location" feature on mobile search, GMail and others where Opera does not work or only half works. Security is very good and its fast as heck in rendering (it renders pages on the device not a remote server) pages and gives you the option of preformating to your devices screen size.
A quick feature summery:
Main Features:
• FREEWARE - Its free cant get better then that
• Adaptation for small screen
• Data traffic statistics
• Visited history
• Domain name quickly input
• Supporting multi-formatted file
• Supporting web local-storage
• Multi-windows browsing
• Page dynamic optimization
• Picture optimizing display
• Shortcut Keys (user defined)
• RSS Feed Subscriptions
• Built in E-mail Client for POP3 and IMAP, full support for attachments
• Comprehensive search features (user definable)
• Download Manager - Resume broken download connections
• Personal Data Manager - Saves web sites to your device, export bookmarks
All in all I give it a solid 10 out of 10
Check it out here: UCWEB6
Download the Windows Mobile 6.1 CAB file here: UCWEB6-63-300-33-09021910
I really like this browser. its super fast... definitely worth a try
its fast..its cool BUT it doesnt support Flash..which is major since i use CNBC for there stock ticker.
if they implemented flash . this would be the best browser hands down!
I am impressed.
Up until I bought the Ozone, I had always relied on PIE, IE6, and Opera Mobile. With Ozone in hand, IE6 was my only browser as Opera Mini and Skyfire are not worth the download. I never really cared for the interface and limitations. At least IE6 was simple to use, tabbed support and the ability to switch to column browsing would make it much better.
But, out of nowhere, this speedy simple browser beats them all. It will take a bit of adjusting to get used to the interface, but this will become my browser of choice. The only downside is flash or lack thereof.
In reality, I think most people will utilize different browsers for different tasks. Most of the web sites I visit are simple in structure and work wonderfully with this browser.
I'm sold. Thank you for providing a useful tool. Hopefully, someone might cook this into a new rom to have fun with.
Flash support is on the way, hopefully soon
Does UCweb works like operamini and skyfire i.e. through their server or does it work like opera mobile i.e. direct to the sites ?

I searched aorund, and found that it does work through UCWeb proxy. The proxy cached the websites and hence seend to content to the browser faster.
At least I personaly not very comfortable with accessing the net via such poxies specially the sites which need login and can be based on cookies. Such proxies do cache cookies as well and that scares me alot. It is like giving out passwords to such proxies.

Actually no it doesn't, all page rendering is done on the device if you are using the Windows Mobile version (which is what I posted about and linked to). The JAVA version uses UCWeb proxy servers but we are not using the Java version now are we
Perhaps you need to sharpen your 'search around' skills a bit.
Does this browser have a desktop mode? I always get the mobile site and I cannot find a setting to change that.

Here are some links. There are more. I wish you were correct.
http://wapreview.mobi/?p=881
UCWEB, TeaShark and Opera Mini are all proxy based browsers. All traffic to and from the Web passes through a proxy server that parses and renders the page before compressing it for display by the thin client browser. Proxy based browsers have both advantages and disadvantages compared with direct browsers like Netfont, Opera Mobile and the embedded mobile browsers of most phones.

"Like Skyfire and Opera Mini, UCWEB is a proxy based browser where pages are rendered on a server and compressed before being sent to a thin browser client."

May be you can access the link http://www.lagado.com/proxy-test and see if UCWEB access is via proxy. I will install it and try when I get to an area where I can get wireless access (at present I have only wired access).

Confirmed. It uses proxy. When you access http://www.lagado.com/proxy-test with UCWEB, it will show that the request came from IP 67.228.166.109. Now whois shows that this IP address is in China. http://whois.domaintools.com/67.228.166.109 and hosted by softlayer.com.
Tried this browser on the HTC Ozone.
Slow. Seriously...it took FOREVER to connect to anything, especially on the startup.
After trying it on 10 Sites the speed never improved.
Horrible rendering (Mobile IE does a better job and is faster!)
No thanks...uninstalled.

Nope, tahdor was 100% correct (my hats off to him) so I dumped the browser.
you can choose whether u want to go via a proxy or not
There is a simple option in ucweb (the windows mobile versions - ppc and smartphone) to choose if u want to use the proxy or not.
PPC, ucweb 7
Menu (the bottom left button) -> Preference -> General Settings -> "WAP access via Server"
Have used a few versions of ucweb 6 both on PPC and Smartphone
They too had this option.

[APP] RELEASED 100109! — Opera Personality Switcher

Here's my initial release of "Opera Personality Switcher," soon to be found in my custom ROM
It gives you a few options for opera's "Personality" -- user agent, proxy, etc. It's handy if you want to spoof a site (I use it to fool sites into feeding me their iPhone content)
Here's what I have so far:
1) OPS iPhone - No proxy, user agent set to match mobile Safari's
2) OPS Opera Mobile Standard - No proxy, user agent set to Opera's default
3) OPS Opera Mobile Standard 2 - No proxy, user agent set to "HTC-P4600/1.2 Opera/9.50 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en)" -- which is the standard for a Fuze (and for a Touch Pro?)
4) OPS AT&T Fuze- Media Net's proxy (wireless.cingular.com), user agent set like on Standard 2
5) OPS Firefox- No proxy, user agent set like Firefox 3.5 on Windows, for a full desktop experience.
I'm no programmer, so this is all accomplished with registry tweaks done cabs, linked in your start menu, in a folder called "Opera Personality Switcher." It works more or less the way AT&T's Enable/Disable proxy cabs did.
This is tested against a newish build of Opera 9.7 (currently 35432, found here), but may work on more recent versions of 9.5 as well. This first release will only work on versions of Opera Mobile that store preference settings in the registry.
Sounds great. Would you also add a desktop mode that sets the user agent to firefox or opera?

Sure. Expect the practical results to be very similar to the Opera (mobile) standard -- except for on those very few sites that actually recognize opera as a mobile browser (my experience is that most don't.
Actually, I might as well put in an IE mobile variation too, to FORCE it to be recognized as a mobile browser ...
Initial version released!
good stuff mate... have added it here : http://www.1800pocketpc.com/2009/10/01/opera-personality-switcher-change-user-agent-on-opera-mobile.html

I haven't tested against the official beta yet, but taking a quick look at the cab available from opera's site, it looks like it still relies on opera.ini (rather than the registry entries OPS changes) -- so it seems like it wouldn't work.
I'll look into it making it work with that release (and older 9.5s that work the same way) when I've got a bit of free time later this week.
Just downloaded it and it works fine for me. I am running the 9.7 version of opera. I installed the OPSiphone file and then opened Opera. I had to open it close it and then opened it again and it worked fine. Great app thanks
Good stuff. Now, I have a way to get cingular video to work and get regular desktop pages WITHOUT having two diff browsers. Thanks much.
excellent idea!
