Anyone purchase an 8525 recently? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I sent mine in for repair as the motherboard completely died, HTC called me today saying they need a receipt showing that I purchased it within the past year so they can warranty it for me. Well, I don't have the receipt since I bought it used a few months ago. Does anyone have a receipt dating within the last year that I could use? All it needs to show is the date of purchase from AT&T, no other information is necessary.......

Better ask the seller you bought it from for his/her copy of the receipt, or.. i dnt know.
I THINK AT&T writes the IMEI number on the receipt, so you couldnt use ANY receipt.

I think I remember my receipts having the IMEI's for the 8525's I bought as well. You might need the original receipt from your phone...

Buying nexus one from ebay

Hi
Just wanted to know how warranty is handled with the nexus one bought directly from google: is it activated automatically so I don't need the receipt anymore, do I have to do this myself, is the warranty outside US supported or not? What do I need from the seller beside the device itself? And do I have to activate the device with google? First android phone not from HTC...
Thanks for help.
Can no one help me?
Not sure if this applies to Nexus One, but I had other HTC devices purchased from eBay and the warranty did apply to them.
They check warranty status via serial number, so you don't really have to have anything else.
Hi
I purchased mine through eBay, my first question before bidding was if they still had the receipt.
If you get a problem tell them it was purchased as a present and they should update the details.
edit..................................................
The nexus one is made by HTC.
Its activated automatically (no receipt needed).
It is tied to the serial # (rather than the owner or an address).
Ring HTC and they will tell you how long it has left. (Think my N1 came with a 2 year warranty)
Has anyone purchased any nexus s from the below seller?
http://cgi.ebay.com/Unlocked-Samsun...Cell_Phones&hash=item3f065ee3ef#ht_582wt_1139
I'd go with buying from Amazon. HTC sells an unlocked version of the N1 at a deal. Not sure if it is TMo or ATT. You might want to check on that. Good luck!
got my N1 from ebay. no receipt as it was upgrade from vodafone. I rang htc, gave them imei and they said no problem, I still have regular warranty.

[Q] Motorola Warranty? Ebay or Gifted Items

If you buy the xoom from ebay or even get it as a gift, will you still be able to use the motorola 1 year limited warranty or even be able to upgrade the radio to LTE 4g?
I have been reading that the warranty only covers the original purchaser, and the LTE 4g is only for the original purchase. Is there anyway around this?
For instance, could you still get it fixed/ upgraded if you have the original purchase receipt?
This sucks for people who get the Xoom as a gift or something.
Usually you'll need to have the original receipt with proof of purchase date. The receipt also usually needs to be from an "authorized" dealer, ie, not eBay, not a discount warehouse, not some guy out of his car.
If you have the original receipt, your chances are good.
Some companies also have a policy that if the device is released on X date, any warranty claims up to 1 year after that date are by default valid. However, you bet they'll want to see the receipt regardless to make sure you're the original purchaser.
One of the reasons I don't buy items like this on eBay unless I expect to completely throw my money away.
Edit:
Also, most warranties require some kind of registration of the device within X period of time. It's illegal in some states I believe but common practice in most. This gives them marketing information about their product, a chance to up-sell extended warranties,
know who the original purchaser of device X with Y serial number is, as well as where they bought it and when.
I think ASUS has a motherboard / video card warranty of 90 days, but if you register the device within the first 30 they extend the warranty to 1 or 3 years. BFG tech did a lifetime warranty if you registered the device.

So what if the original receipt has someone else's name/address on it?

Just say it was a gift from an aunt/uncle/brother/friend/whogivesacrap
have you tried square trade
does anyone know if they will warrant an unlocked phone? i read on Bell's website that their warranty is by the manufacturer's discretion, so i need to find out if motorola will accept it
I check the phone (Defy with suddenly dead earpiece) with Moto's online troubleshooting tools (and the tools show that the phone is under warranty), and was prompted to send it for repair. The shipping instructions say that I must "include proof of purchase (if required)". How should I deal with that? Include a note that this phone is a gift (it is), or just do not put anything? Should I pre-register the phone (and they may ask me how and when and where was it purchased) prior to sending it?
this was my original question too actually. Do you have a copy if the receipt? If not, I would start the process to send it back and then mention it was a gift or say you lost it. There really is nothing else for you to do but try. Even if you had the receipt. The shipping info on that proofbof purchase would be different than your own, but maybe you could just say you moved addresses since you bought it.

Fantastic customer service from Motorola

I dropped my 2013 Moto x and shattered the screen. I use the advanced repair option on the Motorola web site to try and have it repaired for $100. That's where they put a hold on your credit card and ship a "Like new" phone to you then you ship the broken one back to them when the new one arrives. If you don't ship the old one back they bill you for the new one.
I waited over two weeks to get the replacement from Motorola with an email from them that it was shipped 13 days ago. Today after they had me on hold for 45 minutes they came back and apologized to me that it wasn't really shipped and offered me a free upgrade to the 2014 model. I just got done designing my 16 gb pure edition with a bamboo back and it didn't cost me a dime. Not even charge for tax or delivery. Expected delivery January 13th.
Can't beat that for service!
Not too shabby. You're gonna love it, it's an improvement over the 2013 model in every way but the size. I still think the 2013 was the perfect size and wish they didn't make the 2014 as large as they did.
I have only had good experience with moto. The only thing that I dislike about them their billing is screwed up.

The support in the UK is shocking. I reported a problem with the wooden back coming off a few days after I got the phone and it's taken several weeks to get anywhere with the support. Cases either get closed as solved or ignored by Motorola. I finally called up and spoke to someone but they won't do an advanced shipment of a replacement so I either have to send it for repair or send it back. As I used the cyber Monday discount if I send it back I'll have to order a new one at full price.
I have had some decent interaction with their customer support and they have been very helpful. My only issue is that for whatever reason they will not let me pay $50 extra to make my replacement phone the 64GB version. I started the process for the 14 day return/exchange within the required period, got my code and then noticed they had the 64 available now so I tried to get that. They just refuse to do it and say it is not possible, which I find very strange. I have spoken to a few different people, all very nice, one said he thinks he can get me the code and I can pay the upgrade fee and the other said it is absolutely not possible.
Other than that they have given me some codes for buying accessories and have been helpful.
Is the 14 day exchange policy a US only thing? Or do you have to return the phone prior to receiving the replacement?

I am in the US, but I am not sure if it is only an US thing or not. You can exchange your phone one of two ways; advanced replacement sends you a new device but you put down a deposit, when you get the replacement device you have ten days to send in your old phone. The other way is you send in your old phone first and then get the replacement.

Thank you for contacting Motorola.
We inform you that the advance repair procedure is not implemented in Europe, only in the US, and it's likely that he has heard about this procedure from American customers, as the XDA developers forum is American. Unfortunately, we cannot control the information provide in third party sites not managed by Motorola.
Motorola procedures in the US are not the same as in Europe, and due to this, in this case we can only offer you a replacement or credit, both following the same procedure: send the phone back to us using the DHL labels that we will provide, and when the phone is arrived to our service centre, this will trigger automatically a refund, or a new xCode for replacement, depending on what is the option that customer prefers.
As you contacted us during the 14 days period in case xxxxx-xxxxxx, the return for credit is possible, but you will need to return the phone to us first and the the system will trigger the resolution.
In case your choose the refund of the credit, in the meantime of course you can place another order.

So I guess I'll get a replacement, the first phone I sent back arrived back to them in Germany the next day so hopefully I should get the code to place the order again fairly quickly.
I dropped my Moto X 2014 just three weeks after it arrived and the display was cracked. Motorola really sent me a new one after they received the broken one - I had to pay nothing.
Best costumer support I ever experienced. I don't think you can expect this anywhere else.
I'm from Germany, for your information

My LG G4 bootlooped and LG fixed it even though I had bootloader unlocked

Hi guys,
Just wanted to post this out to help other people who may have experienced their LG G4 bootlooping. My device bootlooped last weekend. I had purchased it from a mobile recycling website, it was refurbished, it had 505 serial number, I also had the bootloader unlocked and was running Cyanogenmod 14.1.
I contacted LG as I thought I had nothing to loose, they asked me for proof of purchase and they repaired my device within a week and send replaced the motherboard and now the serial number is 611. No questions asked about bootloader or custom rom.
I reported it on the Monday, they picked it up on Tuesday, they dispatched it on the Friday and I received it today (Monday). I was very impressed with the turn around, so if there is anybody in the same situation, try sending it to LG and you never know your luck!
I am based in the UK and I arranged everything with LG over live chat.

Was it under warranty? If not, how much did this cost?
guys pls upload somwhere service papers
Only clean imei. thanks.
really? Are they repairing unlocked devices? Sounds awesome!
I just got my phone back today i can concur. But when i got it back, the bootloader was locked again. so i've been trying to remember how i rooted it last time.
Well, if they're replacing the motherboard I'm guessing you don't get any of your original data back off it. New motherboard = new ROM chip with fresh, stock data, including bootloader.

They are legally obliged to, regardless of bootloader status.
Every device/electrical good sold in the EU has a 2 year manufacturer warranty as standard (regardless of what retailers tell you). If you can prove the device was faulty at the point of sale, in this case that's easy as LG have admitted a manufacturing defect, it doesn't matter what software modifications you've made, it's on LG to fix it.

LG asked me for the IMEI/Serial number. I provided this and they accepted the repair. To be honest with you I have no idea whether it was under warranty as the device was refurbished.
No cost, totally free and turned around very quickly

The UK doesn't fall in to that ruling I'm afraid - we're covered better by the Sale of Goods Act.
Same happened here a few weeks ago. Sent it off on Tuesday and received on Saturday fully working

Here in the UK I got this response after sending in my proof of purchase:
"Having looked at the supplied proof of purchase, the item listing and the individual seller, the unit is out of the box when sold as such appears to have been resold to yourself. As such, our manufacturer’s warranty does not extend to cover second hand, refurbished or re-conditioned handsets, therefore we will be unable to book this in for a repair."

I even forgot my proof of purchase but by the time I told them, they already sent it back to me working
In sweden , just last year they would claim, their units would not be affected and my claims was baseless. As if we would not have EU based units and 505 would just be a coincidence... ****ers...

Bought UK Contract phone from someone - gone faulty

I bought an S8+ from someone who upgraded their contract, which has developed a line across the display today. Will Samsung repair it under warranty regardless?
Samsung might need a receipt but you'll have to check. Worst case the repair will have to be initiated and done by the original owner. If this person is a decent human being they should be able to handle this for you, either through the carrier or through Samsung.
It should be repaired.
It depends whether the warranty is transferable. Hisense TV's for example don't allow warranty transfer. You'll have to read the Ts&Cs.
Just came off the phone with Samsung UK and they've organised a brand new phone to be delivered on Tuesday, no questions asked. Brilliant.
just make sure you get a copy of the upgrade paperwork from the original owner and then just do the warranty call saying you are that person and give your work address to get the phone sent back to.

No need, new phone delivered this morning. I see lots of people have problems with Samsung support but I really can't complain as it was a painless experience.
My only worry buying a contract phone from someone else was that they would report it stolen and me ending up with a blacklisted phone. No more such worries as I have a new IMEI number.
