I made the scrollbar wider under "personalize." the advanced settings button in "fine tune" I think.

I am after the same drag and scroll function in firefox, making the scroll bar wider doesn't achieve the same result.

yes it has got it but its rubbish but google chrome is faster browser then fire fox.however firefox finger scrolling is better
In the past I could enable something like Grab and Drag in Opera, too. It was hidden in the browser and you had to add an own button. But I stopped trying it further, because in Opera you can't assign scroll bar to the left side. All left-handers simply can enable this in about:config.

i have heard on youtube reviews it is not possible...thats why i am wondering.
the iphone browsing experience is great, and is full screen.
On the Leo it is not full screen, even when you zoom out.
what about ticking auto full screen in the settings menu?

I'm a little confused by this. Do you mean Opera 10? I only ask because the default Opera (9.7) that comes installed on the device is always in full screen, except when you use the menus.
same for opera 10.. always in fullscreen except when using the menus
maby i said it wrong...with fullscreen i ment viewing the whole page. only able to scroll down, not sideways.
Opera always goes to fullscreen mode automatically.
And actually it goes to REAL fullscreen, not like on the iPhone where you still have that bar on the bottom taking away screen real estate (that's already very limited on the iPhone anyway, with that low resolution and smaller screen).
Don't know where you found that information that Opera would not do this, but it's wrong.
You can turn that off in the settings, however.
EDIT:

Ah yes, now I understand what you mean. Yes, you can do that also, by setting the "virtual screen width" higher.
if it still wont work, type about:config in your browser
and then go to user prefs and see if there are some options permanently activatet wich do not allow the browser to go into fullscreen!
This is what you're searching for:
- type about:config
- click on 'adaptive zoom settings'
- set 'virtual screen width' to 1000 (or something great enough for all the pages you visit)
- click 'save' and restart Opera
Thanks for the question, I'll include this in my next ROM
I like not having to scroll sideways, but was too lazy to change it
yeah thats it! i was to lazy to get my phone to look it up^^

alrighty. thanks for the answer.
i think im gonna sell my 3Gs
ok so htc gave us a capacitive screen no stylus anymore. So can someone tell me how for god sake can i scroll down in my notes ? you know this very useful built in app that you can write and view notes sunchronized with outlook. now with my HD2 I cant scroll down in notes. instead when tryinv gestures it insists on marking the text rather than scrolling within it.
There's a scrollbar on the right-hand side of the screen.

Thanks. while inside a note it's ineffective, as the scrolling is not seen while it moves. Makes the built in app useless.
I too have this problem. If there are multiple pages to the Notes, scrolling in a smooth manner is not possible.
Is there a fix that allows one to scroll like in Word and other applications?
HD2, T-Mobile USA
when in a note, you can use teh arrows below the standard keyboard to scroll, or if you use swype, jump to the tex edit/arrows page and use those arrows. Not perfect, but works.
Is there an alternative app that reads notes and also updates them to outlook like the builtin notes app?
I rely heavily on notes and it is painful to keep use the scroll bar thing as it's not as smooth as it should be. I find myself trying to make micro movement to move up a little bit!

Try OneNote Mobile. Its preinstalled in the Start Menu under Office 2010
Hi,
Take this web page for example:
http://www.domedia.org/oveklykken/css-div-scroll.php
It has an square in the center, that has scroll bars of it's own. How would you scroll the content of that square?
I know that in the iPhone it's a "flick" with tow fingers.
What's for Android?
Interesting, seems like there's no way.. And according to this post it is inherent to all webkit-based browses atm.
I'd recommend using custom js-based scrollbars (as seen in google wave or here (and make them WIDE..)) buttons to scroll up/down
RE
Thanks for your reply,
Actually I have also come acroose that post..
Well, it's obviously not all WebKit browser, cause Safari Mobile is a WebKit browser, and it support this feature.
Is this something that can be developed? Are there any 3rd party browsers that supports it?
Seems like iphone browser has a 1 up on scrolling inside a web page. It does it by using 2 fingers inside the window to scroll.
darn

Are there any browsers that have the back button (like on the bottom) on the touch screen? I tend to try not to use the buttons a lot but when I am browsing, I need to go back. Can anyone name some browsers?
I know Opera Mini 5 has a back button but that is compressed pages. I want one that's not. Any?
Hi , dolphin uses touch screen gestures and you can programme then to do all sorts of things. The standard gesture for back is like a backwards L.

Steel
The Browser app 'Steel' has on screen back and forward buttons on.
Is very cool imo, can work as a 'desktop' browser or 'iphone' as well as mobile, so can browse full webpages on it
Nice. Steel works great! It's like an addon for the Android Browser. Thanks!
The dolphin browser is good but don't like the gestures. I rather hit a button rather than make a mirror style L. It also doesn't have an option to display the back button on at all times on the bottom for dolphin browser.
Dolphin is great but i don't understand why it doesn't have gestures for zoom in/out.
And also i don't understand why do i have to press the button in corner to use gestures
Net Front Life
You might wanna try Net Front Life browser. Is has your softkeys and more, like nicely hiddn tabbed browsing
try miren browser. it has a back button on the screen when you touch the screen once while on a web page otherwise its hidden

I personally like SkyFire. It has back button too!

So I have flashed the italian version of official ICS rom.
I was wondering is the stock browser can be modded to allow more tabs? and set to always request desktop site?
I have found a few mods but they are for phone ICS, not sure if they would work on tablet ICS.
any suggestions?
Edit : i flashed the deodexed, zipaligned stock 4.0.4 and modified the SecBrowser.apk to enable a maximum of 99 tabs, and some faster animations. i have attached the modified apk here for those who need it. note: only works on deodexed stock 4.0.4

one of the very first things I did:
RE "always request desktop site"
type about:debug in the broswer's address bar
go to the browser's settings
go to the "advanced" (IIRC) tab or something like that
find the voice "UAstring" (IIRC) or something like that to "desktop"
type again about:debug in the broswer's address bar
this setting stays set even after rebooting (which was not always the case in the past)
don't know where/how to change the "8 tabs max" settings but would like to!

I was referring to the stock browser. And since I don't have Chrome (a browser which doesn't reflow zoomed in text, like the stock does, is useless to me) I have no idea if it works with Chrome too, sorry.

No worries and thanks for the info!
When you say doesn't reflow zoomed in text, do you mean the fact that Chrome doesn't properly fit a page on screen when you change pages?
I have noticed that on Chrome every time I go to a new page it is zoomed in and I have to either scroll to see all text or double tap screen to get it to fit. Very annoying and I don't know if that is just a setting or a fact of life.

yep, double tapping only zooms out while in the stock browser it reflows (reformats) the text leaving the zoom level you set and making the page readable without scrolling (make sure to also check this in the settings).
frankly this is one of the most basic functions of a browser and IDK how people can live without it. until Chrome gets this elementary feature it's just worthless crap, to me.
BTW, no settings issue, it's "a fact of life" with Chrome. Can't believe so many people rave about it......
oh and, just checked and the way to change the user agent that I wrote in my earlier reply doesn't work with Chrome.
Dolphin browser + desktop toggle is what you need. I have given up on stock browsers on all my devices. Dolphin is miles ahead.

Thanks for all the input.
I've found this on the S3 forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1723182
I'm not familiar with compiling/decompiling, can anybody do the modification on the browser.apk for the official ICS rom?
edit: okay, tried modifying the apk using APKTools, deleted the SecBrowser.apk and .odex, replacing them with modified one, but ended up having a missing internet icon. Looks like it is not possible to modify apk in non-deodexed stock rom.
