Had it at about 70% battery (around) last night, after 12 hours or so today, it refused to turn on.
I got it to turn on finally with a soft reset, and the battery showed 28%!!
I have no idea how it could have run down so fast, though it could have been something I left on (maybe wifi?).
I'm still surprised it would refuse to turn on at 28% though...
My Dopod 818 Pro is having this problem ever since I bought it. If I turn off the screen using the power switch or let it go to standby automatically, most of this time I can't turn it on again and have to do a soft reset.
I do not see a lot of Dopod users complaining about this problem so I am wondering if I have a faulty set. Other than this problem, everything else works fine.
i'm having the same problem. Do you think there will be a rom fix?
I just found an interesting observation regarding this sleep-to-death (STD) issue. If I left my Dopod overnight and got the STD problem the next day, the battery had drained considerably. It was fully charged the night before, but after 8 hours, the battery is only at 40 percent.
But since more than one person is having this issue, is it still a hardware problem?
This is not a hardware issue, its more like an unoptimised ROM issue. I suppose it will be fixed with an update in the future.
Leaving WiFi on does not matter because your device automatically goes into standby mode after a pre-defined time (3 minutes by default). In that case, even if you leave 10 apps running in the background, it won't make a difference for the aforementioned reason.
With the HTC Universal, what happened was that people would leave apps running in the background and once they are done using the device, they would just close the device thinking that it would shut off, but it wouldn't because the standy-mode was disabled by most people to get a snappier device. In such a situation, battery would drain rapidly overnight as the device hasn't gone into standby mode.
This situation will occur on the JAMin too IF there is no default standy-by mode set.
I have an HTC Universal (O2 XDA EXEC) and had the same thing happen to me two nights in a row. The battery was at 100% when i went to bed and i woke up and realized i was late as the alarm i had set didnt wake me up.
I had to soft reset the phone and the battery was down to 24% and then the alarm starting going off, a bit late though. I have had this phone for three days, and im not happy about this failing twice on me.
The only thing i have changed is running a coporate install (0506) so that o2 active wasnt on the phone.
Is there any fix for this??
Rom version: 1.13.82 WWE
Radio version: 1.04.02
Protocol version: 42.37.P8
ExtROM version 1.13.188 WWE
Go to Settings>System>Power and check the "switch off device after x minutes" option. By default it is 3 minutes, but i have set it to one minute as that serves my purpose. You will notice the drastic difference immediately .
It kind of sounds like an issue I've seen on my m600. It's a wm5 bug where activesync will try to connect all the time, randomly, even if your device is off. It can cause STD (sleep to death) and will. It's a simple fix. Just install the autosyncschedule.cpf and run it. It's a simple little .cab that will change some settings. Hope it helps
http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/bc/59d707c...amin/DisableSyncSchedule.cpf?bftVi9DBC7gsZI7r
If that link to my yahoo briefcase doesn't work, you can get this file at eten-users.net in the download section under /utilities/wm5. It solved all STD's with the eten and so far with my jamin. 8)
You can also fix the Active Sync bug manually.
To do so open ActiveSync on your WM5 device and tap on Menu>Add Server Source. Add any info to create a fake server sync. After that is complete go to Menu>Schedule and change the two dropdowns to "Manual" and tap "ok" at the top right.
Slept to death- I've sussed out why my device was doing this
I had an SD card from my i-mate Jam inserted, and after taking this out, the situation stopped happening. So if you've got an SD card in try running the device without for a while to see if that helps...
First of all, you guys doing the development for our devices are simply amazing. By improving the usability of our pda phones you are actually significantly improving the quality of day to day life (at least for me personally). It's a big deal, so thank you for all your work.
I don't post very often, but I lurk every day and generally have no issues to post about, but now one has come about that I need some help with.
_________
So I just began using Chainfire's WMWifiRouter yesterday for the first time, and it works perfectly for me. To be able to wirelessly tether multiple laptops is an unbelievably useful and cool capability. One of the features built in which is a very welcome one is also causing me a problem.
As you all know (if you've used the program) it is set up to keep the wifi active if you hit the power button and put the device in standby.
My issue is that it seems that the change it makes to keep the wifi active in standby doesn't revert to the default setting when the program is closed. So when I'm not using the program and I am connected to a wifi network in my house, and I press the power button, the battery is still draining very fast. Normally I can keep it in standby all day just waiting for calls to come in to wake it up and the battery will barely go down. But today I put it in standby and try to turn it on a couple hours later and it's completely dead.
It is just my assumption that the problem is caused by what I described because using this program is the only new thing I've begun doing since yesterday before the problem existed. Soft reset doesn't change anything, and the "crash cleanup" option doesn't help.
Can anyone confirm that I am correct in my assumption of the cause of the problem? Or any other ideas of what could be causing it? Just to be clear, I'm using a version that came with my rom (Colonel's 12-28-07 custom rom for the sprint mogul) and it is an older verion, v.081. I would try the newest version, but I couldn't find any details on the website about how much it costs once the trial is over.
Thanks a lot if anyone can help, I'd appreciate any bits of insight even if you're not completely sure.
THANK YOU!
So, no one has any thoughts on this?
It is becoming quite annoying to have to turn off the wifi in the comm manager every time I put the phone into standby just so it's not dead in an hour and a half.
Also, if I leave the wifi on and hit the power button, when I turn it back on the symbol shows the wifi connection still active but when trying to stream a radio station or open a browser it won't connect, and I have to turn off and back on the wifi to get a new working connection.
I'd just like to know if any of the other thousands of wmwifirouter users have the same experience, or just haven't noticed it or what.
Thanks.
Mogulus: Please try my Wifi Profiles -option Wifi Power->Normal Mode in menu.
BINGO!!!
Your program absolutely did the trick, thank you so much.
The only other suggestion I got was to flip off the wifi switch before entering standby and flipping it back on when returning from standby. Well that is simple enough but when you're picking the thing up every few minutes to check a random thing that pops in your head, that extra step gets so annoying.
Again, thanks a lot, you can expect a donation from me.
Thank you!!

You are welcome

Hello, I got my new device on the 3rd Jan so it's still relatively new and vanilla. I have had a look here through FAQs and searched the X1 forum to no avail. I hope these are not too difficult to answer, many thanks for any advice
1. Freezing:
When I make a call the touch screen no longer takes touch inputs, it does display the call time etc. I have to end the call with the soft button then the screen comes back to life
Also, when I run Windows Media Player and start playing a track the same behaviour occurs and I timed a 2 minute delay before I could use the screen to do anything.
I am not running anything in the background when this happens
All I have installed on top of the new phone (<1 week old) is a torchbutton tool and a battery monitor (although his happened way before the battery monitor was installed)
2. Auto disconnect from 3G etc:
When I set my phone to auto check email for me I didn't realise it would leave the 3G connection running. I can't find anywhere to set this and have it shut down the connection when done. I am not worried about cost (much) but I do want to preserve battery lif.
3. GPS way off:
everytime I try the Vodafone tracker or google maps it never pinpoints my location accurately. I don't want this directing me into a river or car crushers at a scrap yard...
Any ideas?
I don't know about the other two questions but as for number 1) I'd say it's a fault with your device as i haven't heard of the problem before and i have no such issue with my Xperia. Maybe someone can help you...
Question 2
It seems by default you have to disconnect in Comm Manager.
Actually it's great it does not disconnect after every action, it would be hell to check 3 or 4 email accounts and connect each time (I had it on my other smartphone...)
OK I can live with the disconnecting thing, I'll just have to keep an eye on it and the battery usage.
I found something interesting with the media player freezing issue though, if I use the button on the side to adjust volume the screen become available in the volume slider and then the problem goes away, rather random but again - livable if this fix works every time (which it doesn't) I have noticed it seems to be the same tracks that cause this - is it the file size?
Still stumped for the screen freeze during calls though - fix that and I will sing your praises for at least a week and a half
OK The device got replaced... then broke again - ran out of power then wouldn't take a charge
Came back from repair (they wouldn't replace after the 14 days grrr damn vodafone)
Now it has new software on it (spb mobile shell and some random games)
I setup the stuff I like such as the Soft Buttons set to Rotate screen and bring up the Today screen
Now when on the X panel or any of the panels and Opera the Today button refuses to work
It is fine in IE or File Explorer
I am so sick of this damn thing getting so close to being useable and then dropping out on me
Any ideas before I have to go back to the shop and they send it away AGAIN?
Hi all, I've actually been lurking on the forums for about half a week before making my first post and I must say this place is a pleasant place to be a part of.
I'm facing some nitty gritty issues with my HTC Maple that I'm hoping you guys could help me out with.
1. battery life
For some strange reason, the battery life on my phone is so poor. after a full charge, I left it on standby the whole night and in the morning the battery as down to 85%! I had no new mail or messages or anything. the only thing that I used the phone for was as a morning alarm.
2. key lock
This really annoys me. after locking the keys, the screen doesn't black out rightaway and if you so much as roll the trackball a millimeter, the screen will stay well and fully lit. not only that, if the phone manages to make it to a screen blackout, and in your pocket, any of the buttons in the top row (call, home, trackball, back, end call, and the two soft keys) get pressed accidentally in your pocket, the screen will also go to fully lit glory. it's terribly annoying. anyone have a solution to this?
thanks very much in advance for the help.
battery life
concerning your battery life : do you have wifi or bluetooth enabled ? do you have a gps app running in the background ? if not, there is definitly a problem with your battery or your phone. my snap lasts for about 5 days without charge if i don't use bt, wifi or gps.

setting your network to 3G will also drain your battery..just use gprs as your primary network, and use 3g if you are really need it.
And weak signal strength will make your phone work hard and this mean your battery will drain so fast too.
How long you have the phone? do you use Official ROM or Cooked ROM? and what version?
Some times doing a battery callibration will help you.
find the post : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5248266&postcount=696
And about the keylock, some times if you any active bluetooth or wifi connection it will also prevent the screen to be blackout..
try to install keylock app from http://maniac.fschreiner.de will help you to solve your keylock problem..and remember, always install it on your device..not on your storage card.
Thanks for the replies guys.

I have both switched off and I always regularly access my System Processes to end programs running in the background when I don't use them. Most of the time, it's just processes and activesync (I have PUSH email) running.

How do I only use GPRS rather than 3G. I noticed my phone seems to be switching automatically (I see G and H icons on the top of my home screen, not sure what it means).
My workplace is in a location with poor signal, so that may contribute to it. I've had the phone for about a week now, and it's running whatever ROM was loaded onto it from the factory (which should be Winmo 6.1).
Thanks for the pointers!
To switch your network manually to GSM/GPRS..
go to Setting >> Phone >> Band Select>>
for network type: set to "GSM"
for Band type : set to "auto"
to switch your network to 3G/HSDPA/WCDMA.
go to setting >> phone >> band select >>
and set your network to WCDMA

Hi,
I've searched for several hours now in these forums and on Google, with no success.
I need an app that leaves the device switched on, but powers off the screen.
In settings/power I can dim the screen, but there is no setting to dim it completely or just switch it off.
I've found screensavers that can show a blank screen, but the screen is still actually powered up, just showing a black image presumably.
I've found apps that can switch off the screen. But you have to manually click on them to switch off the screen.
Does anyone know of a screensaver that after a set interval will leave the device running, but power off the screen please?
Suspend is no good, the device must be up and running apps.
Thanks for your help.

What apps are you trying to "keep running"? The only thing that might be an issue when the screen goes into it's normal sleep mode is that audio will stop outputting, and wifi connections will suspend, but there's cabs available here to easily get around both of those (and keep them going even when the screen shuts off).
Well, it's actually to solve another long-running problem that has made me almost lose the will to live....
Alarms don't go off reliably on my TP2.
Sometimes, randomly, the alarm doesn't go off until I press the power button to wake it up. The the alarm instantly goes off. So, if I set an alarm for 6am, sometimes the phone wakes up and the alarm sounds, sometimes not. And if I switch the phone on manually sometime later, at 6:15 say, the 6am alarm sounds then.
It will work fine for a few days, then fail.
It happened on WM6.1 and still continues after upgrading to WM6.5.
I have spent countless hours googling and searching XDA-Dev. I have tried probably ten different alarm apps, with no luck. I have hard-reset various times. I have tried various recommended registry tweaks. I've tried checking the notification queue regularly for any errors. I've tried so many different suggestions, for example, never pressing the power button to turn the phone off, only ever let it hibernate automatically. Warm-resetting it each day. And the list goes on.
So, I'm experimenting with just leaving the phone on forever. But turning the screen off at night to save power / not shorten the life of the screen hardware.
Which leads me to the question about screensavers which actually power off the screen automatically after a set delay. Just like a normal screensaver on a PC.
It's hard to easily convey the frustration I have for the TP2. An excellent phone. But a phone which I can't trust to do the simplest thing: to wake me up in the morning?
It'll end up in the bin at some point very soon now.....
A suggestion
Hi,
In my opinion there must be an application, change or customisation that is leading you to those problems. My suggestion is, to perform a sync towards any computer or server to keep your contacts, then, hard reset and keep the phone with the factory defaults for a while. Then, test the phone's alarms and if all is okay, add one by one your applications and changes, testing the alarms in between. Please do that on the official ROM (whatever 6.5 or 6.1) but official one. You will flash if needed later on.
I know it will be a pain, but you will find the problem.
I am using a TP2 with stock WM6.5 ROM. I have not had yet any issue with the alarms. However, I remember to have had those kind of problems before with WM 5.0 and 6.1. There were always related to freeware applications, customisations, no official ROMs, registry hacks and restored backups done from older builds upon upgrade. The alarm bug in old WM version was also known, but I have not experienced it on newer versions.
There can be some issues with the notification database by times, but as said above, it is almost every time due to customisations.
I am not saying that we should keep our phones without applications, third party software, cooked ROMs, customisation etc. But the goal is to find out what is the reason, and believe me. It is the best if not only way.
If you post the list of applications and hacks that you have in your phone, I can try to see if there is any I could identify like guilty one, based on my own experience.
Complementary, I recommend you to install and use these two applications in attachment. They have worked for me on WM5, 6, 6.1 and 6.5 so far. They are freeware and therefore you can use them without problems.
Good luck!
Thanks for taking the time to reply. All very good advice. I'll have a go when I've got some free time again. In the meantime, has anyone come across a screensaver that actually powers off the screen please?
Thanks again.

do you turn your ringer to silent or vibrate when you go to bed? if so,
go to start/settings/clocks&alarms/more and make sure that the "sound alarms box" is checked. this will make sure that even if your phone ringers/alerts are off, your alarm will ring. also, if you charge your phone while you sleep, go to the backlight settings and uncheck the "turn screen off on ac power" box. if you cant sleep with the phone light on, set it to max dim on ac power and flip it over. i always had this issue when i had the tmobile wing.

S2U2 on this forum.
try g alarm.it worked perfect for me with tilt
I have similar Issues with my TP2;
I notice that it is more to do with HIBERNATING than screen off.
My TP2 has go to the point where allowing it to go to hibernation means Screen of Death.
Overnight I charge it and do not let the screen go off and it seems ok (so far).
Guess I will have to Hard reset and test my freeware.
Cheers

I had the exact same problem. When the phone goes to sleep, it is ASLEEP. I didn't use the alarm too much but the phone would never notify me when SMS arrived. I'd hit the power switch to check, and bam, three messages arrive at once, some from hours ago. Immensely frustrating, but the problem went away when I installed Energy rom.
