Within GoogleMaps for WM devices, you can set it to use exactly the same triangulation method to find your approximate location.
the closest thing i know of is WIMP (where is my phone) which works great for me.
Sure?
GoogleMaps for WM 2.0.1.28 does not have that option, or it is not working propperly.

Or there aren't close enough masts to your location it works for me near my school but not at home
It works fine for me! It does need a relatively strong signal, and three or more radio masts in range...

hi to all
i wanted to ask, if it is possible to use google maps without the internet on my diamond....
for example : is there any way to load the map of germany on my phone so i can use it without paying for internet
thanks for responses
try smart2go; similar and you can store maps...
can somebody explain me how i get that on my diamond?
i guess it´s for nokia...
new bie question
I am confused. I would like to know whether we can install the google maps on diamond? can we use it just to find our way without connecting to GPS and so on.
I am sorry I don't have so much knowledge.
thanks for your kind reply.
greetings!
sony
I use TrekBuddy for the same purpose. It works nice on the Diamond.
search for smart2go wm6
I use GoogleMaps in Colorado, and it does work with and without GPS. Here in the US, GoogleMaps will use cell towers to triangulate where you are (been off as much as a half mile before), but it is better than nothing if you have no data plan.
no, it is not possible. you need internet to download maps on the fly. gm does have limited memory where you can browse a map (via internet) and it remembers a few frames for when you arent connected

That's called AGPS. Without using GPS and internet connection, the device finds your location. Iphone uses AGPS. I have no idea whether GoogleMap on diamond uses AGPS or not. But it's really annoying that when using GoogleMap without turning data connection on, GoogleMap keeps on popping that it needs some sort of data connection and I need to cancel it constantly.
Guys, anyway to get around this?

I just started working on GL Maps this past week. It caches maps for 48 hours.
It's still very early beta though, so it probably won't fit what you need for a while.
My HTC Touch Diamond is suppose to have GPS (as far as i know). It had a link before and a file to download TELUS Navigator. With all my customization and tweaking I seem to have deleted that.
How can I get that back, or maybe a better GPS program for my phone?
Thanks.

If you dont' need turn by turn directions, I use Google maps. It's free and works great on my telus diamond. ALso, it's free, so no monthly charge.
I can't seem to get GPS to work with Google Maps or Live Search, it wants a US address. That makes no sense lol

Did you try a hard reset?
What exactly does a hard reset do? What do I lose?

You need to tell Google to use GPS, otherwise it just triangulates from the phone masts. Click menu then "use GPS". Takes a while to lock onto satelites
Hi all
I'm running a legitimate copy of TTN7 on an HTC Touch Diamond. I'd like to add maps of North America, but the map store does not sell them for my version, only for Navigator 6. The map version available is 6.75. Does anybody know if this map will work OK with TTN7?

You need to go outside on a fairly sunny day turn on the gps and let it sit on for about 5-10 minutes. First connection always takes a very long time. If thats not the problem, I cant imagine what is, as the connection to the internal gps is automatic.

you might also want to first use Quick GPS. It really helps in getting a fix faster.

I am having trouble finding a good working turn by turn gps navigation app (such as tom tom) which also works on the HD2....
any help/ advice ?
Thanks in advance...
TomTom works fine on HD2.
Navigon MN7, Copilot.
what versions ? and what are your radio/rom/ wm version info's, please ?
iGO, Garmin XT...
Tomtom works fine for me too...
*edit* ttn 7.917 at the moment, probably change that to 7.918 once I get the inclination to transfer the files... Radio in my sig...
Igo works fine for me. Sometimes you need to set the GPS device port to 4 before it will pick up the internal GPS hardware.
I use this. It is fantastic.

I've got Navigon MN7 and GF is trialling Copilot8, routing is similar but we both like the MN7 interface better.
Copilot also waits until just after you turn left/right before telling you to "turn left/right shortly" which is a bit confusing.
Copilot is good VFM tho'
are there any free equivalents ?
im trying to find a cracked version of a gps program to run on my hd2. for some reason i never got a copy of it on my hd2, but i suppose its because i got it unsubsidized from asia. anywho, a free equivalent would be nice.

Warez is not permitted on XDA in any shape or form, whether requesting or providing
Consider this first and last warning!!!!
Any further requests or users providing warez will be banned for an undisclosed period of time
AFAIK there is no free turn-by-turn navigation for WM.

If you do a search on this site you will find a link to the TomTom v916 program for the HD2. The program is free, but you have to buy the maps.
You could always go to the ROM section and flash an official HTC ROM, as this comes with co-pilot. I have no idea how much the maps cost or it is a subscription as I don't use it.

There used to be one, GPS4All, until Nokia screwed them over with map licencing.

Co-Pilot ranges from £26.99 to under £100, dependant on the number of maps you buy.
daanng the maps cost money hahaha. i'll look into it. the programs eat up battery life rather easily too right?

Maybe if we're lucky, Google will port their turn by turn from Android. I wouldn't count on it though.

Yes, anything that involves GPS + leaving your screen on for an extended period of time will use the battery fast. Get a car charger...
