I had everything working [ WM6 ] perfect ... almost .. Tried to reset snapvue, only I did a hard reset instead. Had to start all over. Everything was going smoothly until I get to the part where I import today.reg. It tells me the registry is unlocked, ready to import and when I find the file etc, I get a few errors. First one tells me that the file is for a PC and not my device and the second tells me access denied. Is it possible that the file I am trying to import is corrupted ? Thanks in advance. diane

Hello,
I am ****ed. I did nothing in particular except installing some new programs especially in the last phm regedit (but i did not use the prog) and suddenly the following problem occured.
1. I cannot see any applications listed in the "Remove Programs" views
plus
2. I cannot delete any Files in the whole System, no matter built in, or storage card
It seem that I have lost all my permissions.
The only thing I can still do is editing the registry as it seems.
I cannot backup anything. I cannot install any new programs.
If I have to hard reset now I will loose all my contacts since I only have half of them on my simcard.
Please help me out somehow.
What do I need to change in the registry, in order te be able to do something again (at least install a backup programm in order to keep my contacts).
Or,how can I save all my contacts to sim - I could not find this option in the contacts view.
Please .. desperately help needed.
D
I rekon you'll need to hard reset and lose all your contacts. That'll learn you for not having them all backed up, eh?
Also, Please don't swear in the thread title. Some people read this at work.
Sync your contacts with pc and you'll save all.
@No.1 ... yes, I removed that bad word from the title and already am happy again with my "new" hard-resetted Wizard... only needed approx. 3 hours for everything
I was very upset when I wrote the above, since Sprite Backup does not work at the moment and I rely normally 100% on it
@No.2 ... also yes ... an older company laptop with Active Synch installed saved many of my contacts
there is a file in the root directory called pim.vol. This contains all of your contacts, call history info, tasks and calendar data (maybe some other stuff I haven't figured out yet too). Copy this to a storage card, hard reset, drop it back into the root directory and overwrite the new one, soft reset and all of your info is back. Anytime I add a new contact or important calendar info I back up my pim.vol just incase something bad happens and I need to hard reset.
wow ... thanx very much for the heads up ... I am this will save me from a lot of future troubles
I have Imate pocketPC, when I tap on bluetooth icon then an infomation " there is no bluetooth hardware installed on this device" how can I do this error . Please show me
Thanh you .
I have the same problem with my XDA2 - all of a sudden my bluetooth is no longer detected. I read that a hard reset would solve the problem so I reset back to factory default and checked the bluetooth and it was working fine. Great I thought! until I restored my data and then the problem was back again.
Does anyone know what causes this bug? I read that I-mate released a rom update to solve this issue but I have not seen anything for the XDA. Is there a setting in the registry that causes this? This is really fustrating!
No Bluetooth hardware detected
Let me answer my own question. This "No Bluetooth hardware detected" bug is due to a corrupted registry, for some unknown reason entries disappear or are changed. The simple solution is just to export a clean reg file of the affected section and import it to cure the problem. This seems to be a common bug which can affect anyone at any time so it is probably worthwile for everybody to do some preventative maintenance and save a reg file now in storage so that you can easily cure the bug should it arise in the future.
The affected section is HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth. Just export this entire folder - its only 31K - from an earlier backup or from the factory default settings and import over the corrupted entries after you have restored. You will need a registry editor such as Resco's to import and export reg files.
I have activated it in the registry and restarted but not being found.
I had to do it twice. After the first edit, I restarted and it worked. Then after another soft reset I lost the edit and had to go in and do it again. Now it's good to go.
Just do it again. It may still be right in the registry, it just need to be opened and closed again. I think that is what my did at least.

Iv done it 500 times.
Let me comfirm it is a DWORD titles IsEnabled in the OBEX DECIMAL VALUE 1. HKLM/software/microsoft/OBEX folder?
Thanks
I also can't find my transferred files - finally I found that the Desktop bluetooth stack I am using (Bluesoleil) is causing the problem as everything works with Widcomm (all the stuff gets to the My Documents folder)...
Bluesoleil tells me that it successfully transferred the file but it went nowhere...
Hello all. I am going to update my ROM, but have a quick question. My work email and calendar sync to my Mogul. Originally my works IT department had to install a certificate so I could sync. When I install the new ROM, I am betting this certificate will go away.
Is there anyway to backup the Certificates so I can reinstall them myself? I am not supposed to be on the exchange server per some stupid/outdated company policy but had a friend put me in there. I would like to not have to go back to IT as I don’t want to get anyone in trouble.
Thanks for the help.
I've exported HKCU\Comm\Security\SystemCertificates\.... into a cabfile and use this one after every new rom i'm flashing
and it's working very well.
If you export into reg-file and edit this file with an hex-editor you'll find your exchange certificate for sure. and under HKCU\Software\microsoft\ActiveSync you can find your Exchange settings (servername etc). after flashing a new rom the only thing i have to do is to enter my password and that's it....if you're unsure, you could try to import into an wince emulator and test if it's working the way you want....

you could use dotfred's taskmanager for example (for PPC) or CERegeditor (for Windows Desktop) to export or import the registryentries.
Both tools are for free. Another solution could be SASHIMI which can also import registry files. Or you could create your own Mortscript, both are also for free.
if your ROM is supporting UC there is also a section for exchange (somewhere in the thread)
If you want to create a cab, WinCECabManager is easy, but not free.

HI Peter,
I tried exporting those reg keys out and after flashing my rom I managed to reimport them.
When I checked the certificates in Settings, they seem to be there. Checked Activesync settings, it is also there, however, when tried to sync, got this error
"The Microsoft Exchange Server requires a personal certificate to log on. Please obtain a certificate as directed by your corporation or service provider"
There was no option to key in password.
I had to re-enroll for a certificate going through my PC's WMDevice Center before able to sync with my Exchange server again.
So ... wonder whether I am still missing something that prevents me from restoring the certificates completely. Are there any physical certificate files that I need to back up as well ?
cheers

Bumpdibump, the same with me - although this is regarding a transfer from Rose to Polaris - this is the best post I have found so far...
Any luck on some specific files we need to copy in addition to the registry?
so i assume that the .cer used for the exchange server is no longer on the phone?

I don't quite remember what happened, but for my part - not sure if the cer file was there, but it didn't help much anyway since whatever cer file I tried to validate with didn't work. I am looking into a different thread using rapiconfig to get the details from my phone, but I guess it ain't enough to only get the info from registry to get the darn thing to work.
Stuck...
Today I tried the SD install of ICS as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437463 Used brand new 16GB card, created \\ICS folder, copied contents of the 7Z file; In WinMo File Manager, opened CLRCAD, then HARET - after a green HTC logo, restart to WinMo, tried several times to no avail. OK, just a testing, can try later...
Then I changed the SD card, inserted my original card used with WinMo and restarted WM.
BIG PROBLEM - I'm getting error message whenever running a program now, error msg reads "The file 'some file' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file."
Searched the forum, found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=392087. I have no reg editor installed, tried to install Total Commander but received "Installation ...was unsuccessfull".
What is the reason for this problem? How can I sort it out?
Thanks in advance
Have you an ActiveSync on your desktop PC? Try to use some registry editor that working via ActiveSync. For example "Remote Registry Editor", or look at that post. There is a link to such program.

Thanks. Downloadad/installed the CAregeditor on PC, opened registry of my HD2. I cannot change the value, getting "Write error-access denied/Cannot write value data". Any ideas?
Just 2 ideas:
1. "Connect to Device in CeRegEditor -> Tools -> Unlock Registry" (from this post). Or...
2. Hard-Reset
PS:
Some time ago I've used Android from SD, and got exactly the same thing... This caused me to reflash the ROM, but I've changed "0000101a" to "1" right after reflasing (this helped me to forget this problem).
Tried to unlock, still can't change the value. Also tried the other program recommended in the post but no - I cannot install it on HD2 - still the same problem :-(
Hard reset & ROM reflash probably the only way now, what a waste of time with reinstall/config of all the software/tools...
Anyway, thanks for your effort.
