Just made a small modification in my PPC registry (set default SIP) and tried if it survives a reboot. Unfortunately it survives ...
My Niki now stops/hangs during reboot showing the htc logo ...
Since I've saved the original registry a "simple" restore of registry would help. Is there any trick to boot the PPC in debug mode or so (e.g. like protected mode in XP)?
Any help highly appreciated !!!!!!!

I'm trying to make a cab file that deletes the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shell\TaskSwitch] key or that imports a blank key in the registry but my MDA won't have any of it
I'm using WinCE Cab Manager. Any pointers ?
Mine works, but you have to soft reset to see the effect.
doesn't work on mine If I run my cab it clears the list in the registry but upon soft reset the list is back ! It's like it uses some backup copy, I don't know....
yours leaves the reg settings intact even after soft reset
succes ! I replaced "" with a space in the keys value and that did it. Also needs a soft reset. In case anybody wonders: it clears the recent programs list.
strange, I tested mine on my 2.06.00 and it worked fine,
after soft reset : gray Recent Programs in menu.
must be a difference between 2.06 and 2.20
Hi,
I have a T-Mobile MDA Compact III (aka HTC Hero) and I was trying to change some things in registry, also I owerwrited some dll witch had attribute ROM (using sktools). Now I have ppc with not working camera unfortunately. Will hard-reset fix my problem ? Will it give me correct registry and also all device dll to default settings ?
Yes, a hard reset will restore your device to the way it was when you first got it. It's like formatting your PC hard disk and re-installing Windows.
Hard-reset didn't fix

The golden rule to avoid having to hard reset is to always backup your phone before starting to mess around with the registry, that way you can undo any mistakes you've made.
I think that SKTools backs up the registry before deleting or changing some value so you may want to check up on that before hard resetting.

I know... I want to do it (hard reset). But the problem is that I can't access the Start Menu. Does anybody knows another way to do it?
if you hard reset your start menu will be restored.
If you have any acess to a explorer aplication thru your today plugins, navigate to the windows/start menu folder.
Otherwise, hard reset with the keys shortcuts, like its explained in you manual.

I can't access anything on the PDA since I turn it ON. It's like it gets stucked on something... I see the START Menu, and the two shortcut keys (in my case calendar and contacts) but I can't do anything unless turn the PDA off... But I will check the manual and see if I can do an hard reset without going to the definitions in the Start Menu (hope that's possible...)
I have managed the situation. Hard reset made "manually". Anyway thank's to everibody that tried to help.

Hello,
my post vanished due to the backup being restored, so I re-post:
I tried to alter my cube settings with the "Touch Settings" program on my ELFin. But somehow the registry got screwed: buttons no longer work or show no graphic at all.
Can someone please give me a hint on how to restore the registry items to their original state, or tell me how I re-install TF3D without having to hard-reset.
Thank you

Forget it. I have done a hard reset. My Elf is much faster again, too ...

if you can't access it through Active Sync (-->remote registry editor then look at HKLM\System\Services...) then have a happy hard reset!
