Hi,
I have a T-Mobile MDA Compact III (aka HTC Hero) and I was trying to change some things in registry, also I owerwrited some dll witch had attribute ROM (using sktools). Now I have ppc with not working camera unfortunately. Will hard-reset fix my problem ? Will it give me correct registry and also all device dll to default settings ?
Yes, a hard reset will restore your device to the way it was when you first got it. It's like formatting your PC hard disk and re-installing Windows.
Hard-reset didn't fix

The golden rule to avoid having to hard reset is to always backup your phone before starting to mess around with the registry, that way you can undo any mistakes you've made.
I think that SKTools backs up the registry before deleting or changing some value so you may want to check up on that before hard resetting.

Could someone please help?
I have an XDA Exec (HTC UNIVERSAL) Ive been searching for days to a solution for this without avail and you guys seem to know what your talking about! Im very new to this and need a solution to this error when i try to install some applications and run them:
" X cannot be opened. Either it is not
signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be
found "
Is there any way you can disable this in WM5? my WM5 version is OS 5.1.1700 (Build 14354.0.1.1)
Or is there any way whatsoever you can get around this? please if anyone can help do let me know and post!!
Thankyou !!
Is your phone locked ?
It may be locked or your operator prevent installing all of 3d party applications. In this case reinstalling "clean" WM5 may help (I'm not sure though) - I'm only a newbie in WM5.
Another reason that application you run trying access trusted functions - like allocation of the physical memory. In this case I'm not sure what can be done - reinstallation of WM5 will not help.
Its unlocked! so if i re-install wm5 it wont say this when i install programs? i have tried resetting the phone and installing different roms but nothing works! is there any particular rom i should be looking to install? or anything i can put in the extended rom to install after a hard reset to sort this out? PLZ HELP!
I have had that problem, too and I was going crazy. Then I tried the following tweak but I do not really know why it should work, it just did:
in HKLM\System\ObjectStore is a reg key "RegistryType=1", which means Hive based registry.
When you set it to "RegistryType=0", which means FILE based registry, all changes you do in the registry will stay there also if you reboot with device's reset button...
BUT AFTER YOU CHANGE THIS VALUE, FIRST REBOOT HAS TO BE DONE WITH SOME SOFTWARE, NOT WITH THE RESET BUTTON.
Subsequent reboots can be done with reset button then.
there is another tweak that gets rid of the warning messages, but I did not use that one
really! which software could i use to reboot the phone??
also is resco registry okay to view and change this? it says registry type 0x0 (1) i have now changed it to 0x0 (0) is this correct? i performed a soft reset but im stil getting the error message! is this because i need to use software to reboot?
yep, the first soft reboot needs to be done with software. After that you can use the usual way again.
After I had done this I removed all "problem apps" and then reinstalled them and it worked.
What software did you use or could i use to reboot my ppc chuckchuck?
Suddenly Activesync will no longer connect to my Universal
I hear the tone when I plug in the cable and AS displays connecting, however it fails to connect. Next I tried upgrading from 4.1 to 4.2 and this did not help. The only difference is AS will timeout and display a troubleshoot screen. Troubleshooting could not find anything. I rebooted my PC and Universal multiple time to try the classical fix without any success.
Any ideas what to try next?
howabout:
soft reset universal.
backup universal, and hard reset then restore.
delete partnership.

I was afraid that someone was going to suggest that That was on my list to try. First I want to check my home computer. A hard reset may be in order either way. For as long as I can remember, I can not get my Universal to uninstall a program. It always complains that uninstall did not work. I do soft resets before uninstalling. Therefore, I wind up manually deleting program files and shortcuts.
Does a hard reset clean up the registry?
How do I do a backup if I can't connect?

a hard reset will return the registery to factory values and entries.
i use spb backup. you can get a .cab of the program. so you can put it on an SD card and backup to that (assuming you have one)
of course the restoring the backup will return the pda to the previous value state, but perhaps something will get lost that got it wedged in the first place.
to be honest, i have never found a cause for weird activesync behaviour or a repeatable work around often just 'doing stuff' fixs it.

This solved most of the problem. Thanks.
Wi-Fi config to work needs some tweaking - don't know why yet. However the #1 problem of active sync is now working.
I still can't remove a program via activesync or PPC. I mkust mannually delete files

oh you remove packages with actisync? i never use that. i use the start->settings->system->remove programs. that removes stuff that's been installed with cabs, and activesync.
Hi all,
My other half bought a Touch Plus yesterday and I've been adding software to it to make all that much better.
The contacts are stored on the SIM and I've copied them all into Pocket Outlook. I then made the reg tweak to hide the SIM contacts which worked immediately, hiding all the SIM contacts. However, when I soft reset the device (via software or holding down the power button and then re-powering on) the registry value goes back to what it was - showing the SIM contacts!
Is there any way that reg value can be kept to 0?
Cheers

Hi
I have the exact same problem and asked this question previously here, never got a answer
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359152
The first thing after a reboot is to hide my SIM contacts... If anyone have a solution it would be very nice.
Kind Regards
I have found a solution...
Download dotfred's excellent TaskManager/Registry Editor from: http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm
Copy the exe to wherever you want on your device,
Use the registry editor in there to set the ShowSIM value to 0.
Export that registry value... to \My Documents\HideSIMContacts.reg (for example)
Create a shortcut to the task manager exe in Windows\StartUp.
Edit the properties of that shortcut (I use Resco Explorer) and set the Target as follows:
"<path to task manager>" \My Documents\HideSIMContacts.reg /silent
Make sure you have "'s around the Task Manager path BUT NOT around the path for the reg file.
Reboot...
Bob's your uncle.
I had the same issue with my previous Orange UK stock ROM, don’t know why the registry tweak does NOT stick after SR on certain ROM’s :-/ so in the end I resorted to installing the attached cab which fixed the issue
On my current HTCAsia WEE ROM the registry tweak works so no need for the cab fix! Anyway for those with ROM where the registry tweak does NOT work, you can use the fix mentioned here by NinjaDonkey or install the attached cab and soft reset, that should do the trick
AWESOME...thanks, I have a locked rogers HTC Touch and have tried many different Reg tweaks that would not stick to hide the SIMs in my Contacts, but the NIKI Sim fix above finally got it. Thanks, thank you, thanx again.
nikisimfix

Hi there,
I am using the Niki Project Rom v1.0 WM6.1 and when I apply the regedit to hide the SIM contacts, every time I restart or soft reset my Touch Dual the SIM contacts re-appear.
The \key I am changing is:
HKCU->ContrlPanel->Phone->ShowSIM
I change the Value from 1 to 0 and this hides the contacts.
After a reset this value goes back to 1.
Can anyone tell me of a permanent fix for this?
Cheers

In your \windows\startup\ folder delete "sddaemon"
It's the thing that's at fault for them always coming back IIRC.
Cheers
Thanks for this response.
What is the function of this file and in deleting it does it have any affect on anything else?
Cheers,
gjrober
To be honest, I have no idea. It's not in a lot of other ROMs, and deleting it when I was using the Niki V1 ROM didn't seem to break anything
If you're worried about it, back up the file to some other folder so you can return it there if something you use breaks - but it certainly didn't seem to do anything when I used that ROM.
You can use Schap Advantage Configuration Tool
Hello,
my post vanished due to the backup being restored, so I re-post:
I tried to alter my cube settings with the "Touch Settings" program on my ELFin. But somehow the registry got screwed: buttons no longer work or show no graphic at all.
Can someone please give me a hint on how to restore the registry items to their original state, or tell me how I re-install TF3D without having to hard-reset.
Thank you

Forget it. I have done a hard reset. My Elf is much faster again, too ...
