I was suprised to see the latest version of DBH's Slide2Unlock available for download the other day. Beyond that, I was pleasantly surprised by the functionality of this program. I've been using A_C's S2U2 and needless to say, tremendously happy with his latest version. Is it just me and my Mogul or does Slide2Unlock Professional require far less program memory or RAM? The point of this thread is to collect the positives and negatives of using one of these programs versus the other. Try to keep replies limited to the most recent releases of both programs. Thanks.
I didnt compare memmory consumption but what i found different was that S2U when awakened after a long period it seems that the clock was frozen and just wakes up too (eg its 1pm now, when i turn my device on i can see the clock jump from 12pm till 1pm, anyone else has this?!) DBH's Slide2Unlock does not do this.
- I also liked he fact that DBH's Slide2Unlock has continuous gif animation and not the 10sec power saving as S2U
- however S2U u can see everything on one page: despite beeing a VERY cool option, u dont have to slide to see ur missed calls, #of messages and voice messages... I prefer S2U: just looking at the screen and figure out how many calls, messages, who was the last call, the time and date... everything by just one glance.
AC is the man.The way i look at the 10 sec issue is that the program is used for the purpose of locking the screen,so youre likely to unlock your screen at least ten seconds after switching on your phone, moving pictures are a bonus.Secondly,DPAD unlocking can prove priceless at times, sort of a failsafe in case life happens. The DBH had better graphics(emphasis on 'had') but the slider was bothersome, sometimes choppy/slow. I think anybody moaning about 1MB of memory usage should manage their PDA better.
After s2u2 sits fir a while the gif file will not animate until you press the slide key. This is the one reason why I am using pro over this. Has anyone found a fix for it?
What Fix
There is no Fix, there is nothing wrong with the application. A_C has hard-coded it into the applcation, may-be in next version he will add option to leave the gif running, when on land line would stay on.
What I like about Pro is you can change your animated .gif file easily when you get sick of it. In fact I made a folder on my storage card loaded with animated .gif files. You don't have to rename them to wallpaper or wallpaperL.
Also I just love how you slide away the time to reveal the other information. Its a really cool feature.
I must commend A C for his excellent program also. I was using it until this new version of Pro came out.

I wasnt talking about it stopping to play after a certain amount of time. I am fine with that. I was talking about your screen being off and you go to turn it on. The animation should automatically start up when you turn the power on but it does not. The animation does not start until you hit the slide. Kind of makes having a gif file pointless.
Which uses more memory?
Is memory usage between the two of these programs about the same?
s2u
DBH's Slide2Unlock use more memory than AC_s2u2 and create a file at 4mb
but DBH's Slide2Unlock is smouther
and i like AC_s2u2 with other option like DBH's Slide2Unlock
On My HTC Touch it says Unknown Caller instead of the persons name in my caller id. that is the only thing that bothers me about DBH's.
Well I've used both, they do have their pros and cons. did find DBH Slide2Unlock Pro more stable on my device then A_C's S2U2 however, I've reverted to S2U2 as I prefer the analogue clock feature and the slide action is a lot smoother as apposed to lightning quick slide action of DBH Slide2Unlock Pro (I find it to be too quick for my liking).
I think the perfect Slide2Unlock app would be a combination of these two, I guess "I want to have the cake and eat it too" I'm just greedy!! LOL

I agree, a combination of these two would be perfect. I'm currently using the .86 version of S2U2 due to some bugs/features that I dislike in the new version (the TALK and END buttons function when locked, the black screen that appears when you get a SMS). What I like about S2U Pro though is the Slide to Reject and also the fact that when a new SMS comes in, the notification just appears on top of the S2U wallpaper, not masking it with a black screen. The slide feature for the clock is neat, yet I'd still perfer the little bubbles that appear on the bottom right of the screen like in earlier version and in A_C's. I think if both authors came together and made one program it would be perfect.
Well....A_C just released a new version today that makes the constant running GIF debate a moot point, he has allowed users to enable a constantly running GIF.
Maybe if some of the things I am not familiar with here (slide clock, slide to reject...) were mentioned over in his thread, he would work on it for you, he is always open to ideas, and will tell you if he can't, or if he will at least think about/try it!!

Oh...I wouldn't think that would happen, I just know if people like a lot of one app, they would stick with it, and make a suggestion of a change. I only mentioned A_C because I have followed him for a while, I am sure the other developer is just as open to suggestions. I think there would always be differences, but like anything else in life, I pick the item that has more pro's than con's as far as my expected functionability.

that is good to hear, because in the last post in the big thread...people only demand this and that. You must have a strong will then to continue with your own thoughts. It is easy to go with the flow under pressure.

I've been enjoying the s2u2 v 098 for several days now, and I love the screen lock mechanism. However, I believe I am right in saying that neither DBH nor S2u2 has any security built in...ie entry password. Now I know that we could get our phones to activate the password protection...but how cool would it be to have a guitar fret-like slider that enunciates via numerals or NOTES(c,C#,b,G) or BOTH, our passwords AS we use the slider to unlock the screen, thus killing TWO birds with one...er...TUNE!
Rough draft of the slider:
0123456789 abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++---Enter
Pswd 24L0
net result:
Play your little Password tune on the slider and UNLOCK the phone at the same time...does any get what I'm saying, or am I being too obtuse?

I like the idea! But it's definitely another kind of app. A do-re-mi would also work since it requires less space (just 8 notes would do).
Hey folks-
I tried posting this in the S2U2 0.99 thread but there are countless pages and I figure it was like dropping a needle in a haystack. Any smartphone users out there have any experience using S2U2 on it?
My wife's Moto Q will run it, and it will function properly, except it almost appears as if the UI is set to portrait and the background set to landscape. The landscape wallpaper is chosen, but nudged down and left so it leaves equally sized black bars on the top and right side of the screen. The rest of the UI elements look set to portrait, as they are horizontally short (guessing 240 but I don't know for certain) and the slide bar is scrolled off the bottom of the screen. The clock/curtain and the carrier info bar are properly aligned to the top left corner of the screen, but as I said they appear to be portrait as they end at approx 240px.
Does anyone out there use the latest S2U2 with a smartphone (or, better, the Moto Q specifically) and has experienced/resolved similar problems? TIA
Edit: I tried this with and without ddraw and safemode on, and I get the same results every time.
I don´t know. Sorry
i think he is using the dpad function of unlocking s2u2. i think your gonna end up with issues with the looks though. just wasnt meant for a smartphone squarish screen.
Wow, everywhere I post this someone without knowledge of S2U2's capabilities tells me smartphones don't have touchscreens. Thanks for the news flash
Yes, ajk511 is right, mostly. The Q has a 320x240 screen, not square, but even if it did, the S2U2 notes say it supports square screens and smartphones. I'm looking for input from anyone who's used S2U2 with a Q or similar device and experienced or resolved this problem.
I can't tell what S2U2 will do on a Q, but it works perfectly on a Smartphone emulator, except the CallerID part. Could you provide a screenshot of what you've done? I guess you may have to prepare a separate set of wallpapers for your Q as QVGA device needs a 240x320 portrait wallpaper while your Q is 320x240.
Can't speak for the Q, but on my wife's HTC Excalibur it works flawless. I did however make a custom 320 wide by 240 high wallpaper that is running in portrait(!) mode as far as I remember. Slider is visible and working fine with the DPAD.
I can confirm that s2u2 works without problems on my Samsung i600, after I had set NoPowerSuspend to 1 (before that if my phone screeen has been turned off, it stayed off and I can unlock device only after pluging headset wire into the slot), and CallerID to 0.
Now I have one question: how can I set s2u2 to lock keypad on homescreen only?
Sorry for my English
This work in a Smartphone HTC S620?
I had a problem with my samsung i320 (landscape 320x240). S2U2 and settings start in the wrong orientation. unlock is working with DPAD, but it's impossible to use settings
Thanks for your answers
Treo 500v has the same problem.
I started with 1.01 and then 1.05, 1.22b, 1.30 and 1.32.
Always the same problem
BoZ
I guess S2U should have its own help forum. Anyways The problem I am having is that when I turn the back light off and turn it back on S2U pops up just fine but I also get an error notification "Cannot execute \Storage Card\Program Files\XMT_OnPowerOn.exe" Does anyone know if this is a S2U problem or something else?
Running on Q9
I've been running s2u2 on a Motorola Q9c for about 3 weeks now with minimal problems. I love it! I'm just trying to learn my way around some of the power management options, and figure out how to change the size/date of the date. So far so good though, I'm very impressed.
Hi, which s2u2 version are u using?
thanks
newest version works fine on HTC Ozone. Trick is you need to use mydialer to change config, its eazier that way.
I actually used S2U2 with a Pantech Matrix Pro and it worked fine. The only problem is when the screen dims, then goes to the lockscreen, then the screen shuts off, the phone shuts down immediately! Also I could not figure out how to access the settings because it was meant for a PPC. Any ideas?
Try to edit settings via registry values in HKCU\Software\A_C\S2U2
try adjusting your backlight settings, to time out longer.

It works just fine on my Q..on screen shows the battery charging....i'm using S2U2 v2.41..because it's difficult to editing the s2u2 setting ( b'cause Q is not touch screen.. ) so i use my mobiler apps to control it through PC...

Try this latest version 2.43 of S2U2, it really works fine on Windows Mobile Smartphone 320x240, specially for Motorola Q CDMA or Samsung GT-C6625 Valencia but settings mode cannot be access, so you should try to edit settings manually via registry values in HKCU\Software\A_C\S2U2 and goodluck...
Try it just get this from others forum and it's free....
Auto Lock v6.06 (CSDEVCTRL)
The locking can be activated at the following events:
1. After a specified period of idle time (no screen tapping or touching the keyboard).
2. After the device has waken up.
3. During a call ("In-Call Locking" Partial or Full).
4. Gesture Left or Right to unlock
WM6.5 SmartLock
1 WM 6.5 use new lockscreen . gray when in wm6.1 or older
2 lockscreen when startup
3 lockscreen when standy
it works well after reboot.
Auto Lock v6.06 (CSDEVCTRL) looks very nice... many options in setup as
executing application after unlock (with command line parameters), locking keyboard, unlocking while slide-out (for raphael i guess), setting right sip, flashing, vibra, etc. ... rly Nice...
but for me LockMeLite is better... (with build in - slide 2 answer option while ringing) cheers
thanks for upload... !
lucasjohny You're the best! Thx. for find this apps.
Hi,
please can you tell me what im ment to do with this?
do i need to install the cabs from the 2 links or just the autolock cab?
Thanks in advance
MG
I'd follow the links to the main thread as both of these apps are on XDA and both have been updated significantly since the OP started the thread.
There are also much more in depth descriptions.
The attached cab files are also outdated. Don't use either of them if you want the latest/greatest.
very nice app!!! I have wanted this for a long time
http://thewingster.com/smartlock.aspx
Thank you very much
I'm wondering whether I can disable the tiny and short sound when I receive a call during the device is locked and turned to silent or vibrate mode? I don't want to disable all sounds of this app, but just this because when the device is turned to silent, it shouldn't make any sounds, should it?
The lock sound is off when I turn the device to silent mode.

A quick note to tell that CSDEVCTRL works perfectly on the Rhodium. Not only it is a light unlocking application enhancing the WM unlocking, but it is incredibly useful, with a number of goodies not related to unlocking. The hard button utility is highly configurable, it can work even when phone is locked (if you wish). I use it to toggle wifi or set bluetooth off, in order to save battery. AEButtonPlus did not identify buttons correctly on the Rhodium, but this one does.
Thread here :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=386451
PS: the bluetooth toggle does not work at the moment due to the Rhodium stack, I use the hotkey utility to launch TurnBTOff.exe in \WIndows in order to set BT off.

This is a setting (I guess it prevents your ear to hang up when touching the screen on some phones), you can put it the way you like (in "Lock Triggers", uncheck "Lock During Call"). You can also set it so that only soft keys are locked.
Well, locked/freeze my phone a couple of times. Personally, not recommended. Don't really works well.
Well, I forgot to say that it does not look compatible with TF3D (I do not use TF3D). It is fully compatible with SPB Mobile Shell. I used it with "WM Today". Sorry !
Also the settings are not so easy to figure out : If you have a foreign Rom (French Orange for me), most important is to write the title displayed in at the top when Unlock Window is shown (Déverrouiller instead of UNLOCK for me)in the Unlock Triggers window, the same with Phone (Téléphone for me) in the Lock Triggers window).

Hello
The Mega is my first smartphone, and thanks to xda I found lots of usefull info and apps to customize it just like i want
I think now it's time to share some apps I did mostly for my own use, but maybe usefull for some other people.
Well, here are two simple applications:
RotateMon
- The first, "rotatemon" (stupid name I know... ) is designed to run invisible in background and simply rotate the screen to landscape if one the following apps are launched: sms /mms ; opera mobile 10 and notes (notes.exe)
When you exit the app, the screen is restored to previous orientation. (meaning if you already are in landscape, you will stay in landscape)
I did this app because i couldn't found something doing this the way i want. I know there are mortscript scripts to do this, but not exactly like this. (and there's a problem with tmail.exe with this method, because mortscripts checks if a windows exist, but sometimes tmail.exe runs in background with the same window title "SMS / MMS" as the active window, so we must check if it is really active or in background...)
I know it's possible too to assign a long key press to the action "rotate sceeen", but I was tired of long pressing this key everytime i launched opera or the sms program...
Well just try it if you want, and let me know what you think about it, it's very usefull for me, maybe for you too
You can launch it at startup like I did (for example with sktools or something equivalent).
Please understand that I did it for myself, so it's "customized" for me (the apps that are monitored to trigger the rotation). If it is usefull for someone else I'll be happy to provide a more "user friendly" version (with the ability to configure what apps are monitored for example). Don't hesitate to ask
StayAlive -update 28/12/2010: now with a nice interface, install cab, more user friendly -
Another very simple program, designed to keep wifi "alive" even when the device is in sleep mode. It's a simple switch: ON/OFF, based on the registry key Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Parms\HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended , you can switch the "StayAlive state" when wifi is on or off, doesn't matter, and the state is keep after a soft reset.
This tool can the display alive too, it provides a simple switch On/OFF to keep the display alive (doesn't prevent locking, well sometimes it locks and sometimes not, don't really know why..., but the screen stay on). Please note that the screen will not stay on at full backlight level, it will stay on at the "lower" backlight level (to prevent too much power drain...)
Ps:Sorry for my poor english

You just have to delete the program folder. If it's running, kill it with a taskmanager before of course (or soft reset). If you put it in your startup, remove it before, then kill the process or soft reset, then delete the folder.
No modifications are made to the system

Hi seb3773 I like you rotatemon very much. It is what I need, but since I have used Swype I had to turn it off. When the screen rotate my swype keyboard don't rescale well and the screen is cut out on te right side.
I would be grateful if you could disable sms rotation in your program?
or maybe some "user friendly" version above-mentioned?
I'm proud if it is usefull for you too A more user friendly version is coming soon, as i'm actually unemployed , i've plenty of time to do it. I intend to program a configuration interface with some nice features. It will be ready in 1/2 days
Great work
good works, man.
I wonder whether you can add-in one more switch not to connect 3G or smthng.
I'm having problem with that. When i accidentally press on browser icon, it start connecting to 3G network and i got to pay data charges.
It would be good if we can turn off. Thanks
