Connecting to Home WIFI as a standalone - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I have an 8125 and I've been trying to connect to my Home WIFI network. It's been a frustrating experience so far. I would like to use my phone around the home connected to the internet via my home wifi but it just won't connect. Is there a network adapter that let me use the home wifi only???????
Thanks

Does ur 8125 detect the signals ?
set ur SSID, and encryption properly

Under Settings/Wireless Lan/Main. There is no signal and I can't input my SSID. There is a cursor but I can't type in any letters.
Thanks

Hey, did you try pressing the button on the bottom right next to the battery signal? If you havent go there and click on the tower signal; usually when I click it connects with the local wifi or via my home.

I don't see a button on the bottom right next to the battery signal!!!!!
Can you give me a step by step process as to how you connect to your home wifi?? I think that would be the best way of answering my vexing question. Maybe I'm doing something wrong in the setup of my wlan settings or something.
Thanks

GOT CONNECTED!!!!!!! Tinkered with my router's security settings and that did the trick.
Thanks all for your input!!

hey what did you do to your router because my phone won't stay connected!! and im thinking it maybe a router issue.

WiFi connect pretty slow

With my QTEK S200 (QREK ROM) it takes considerably longer to connect to my wireless network than it took with my old WM2003 PPC. The good old IPAQ connects in about 2 secs while the new PPC needs about 20 secs, even when I am sitting next to the router. When finally connected everthing is fine and quick.
When I am to far from the router it does not connect any more though the connection stays active when I move with already existing connection to the same location in my house.
Is this normal???
Thanks for info.
My S200 connects instantly to my Belkin router. I can surf the internet straight away. However, if I want to browse my network or stream video from my pc is seams to take an age to connect. My pc is pretty lowly spec'd so that may be the problem, but once I'm connected then browing/streaming is fine.
Sometimes this is due to the way WZC (Windows Wireless Zero Configuration or Windows Zero Configuration) acts up on the Pocket PC...
If you have been connecting to several hotspots besides your own, you've been collecting Wireless configuration settings, and everytime you try to connect, WZC have to go through all of them until it finds the the correct access point on the list and matches with the actual physical Wifi hotspot, then and only then, it connects.
If you want to avoid this, you can click on the connecting arrows indicator on the top of the screen and then Comm Manager, then Settings, then Menu, and then Network Cards. Then you will see the Wireless Networks list.
Notice how it will cycle through all of the items until it finds the correct one and connect. Well, sometimes under some circumstances it can skip and go all the way through the list again.
The quickest way will be to just hold your stylus over the one that you know is the correct one and select Connect.
That's it and I hope it helps.

Thanks for explanation. I tried to remove 1 out of only three configured networks (as I need the other two!) but this does not seem to have any impact. Do you think the Wireless chanel used by my WLAN router has any impact?

I've heard that some people have some problems connecting to some brands of Wifi routers... I use a Linksys WRT54G without problems.
Try to get into your router's configuration panel and set it to connect only to 802.11G devices (it's in auto by default).
Also try different channels (sometimes even neighboruring wireless or home appliances like wireless telephones interfere).
It doesn't hurt to try to reconfigure your access point's wap key, or even try to set it not to use a wep key so you can try it.
Good luck!

8525 problems???

I have been reading this forum and many others all day about the wifi problems people are having but none are like mine so I would like to ask this question, I turn on wifi and it will not find my network or any network around. I have tried to manually put in the ssid and ip address and still it will not connect that way either. I have checked and double checked all my router setting (currently set to open with no wep or anything) I am begining to wonder if the wifi is broken? My second problem I have found it when I change the connection setting to my isp I cannot connect to the internet. Maybe a bad setting, I am not really sure. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
is your router set to broadcast the ssid? if not then that is the problem. if this option is not enabled then no one can see your router.
as far as connecting via a cell connection, make sure you are using an operator cab. I am sure if you do a simple search you will be able to find a cab that will load all of the proper setting for a cellular internet connection.
who is your provider?
Yes, my router does bradcast the ssid and I have four computers and printers that find it without anyproblems. When i turn on wi-fi the phone doesn't even search for a network the icon shows up but I don't get the arrow that go back on forth to show that it is searching or connecting.
I am also having a problem with my 8525. I do get connected but i cant browse the net. Can someone tell me how to setup a connection from scratch to connect to wifi. Thanks

Search around on the Hermes forum. IE doesn't know to use the WiFi connection when it's available. There's a registry key setting that needs to be changed in order for IE to make use of the WiFi connection rather than going out over your data connection with your carrier.

HTC Touch WiFi Problem

Hi All,
I too have a strange WiFi issue. Here goes:
My phone is able to connect to free WiFi stations and the WiFi station at my parent's place. When I try to connect at home, it connects but I am unable to browse.
I previously used WEP encryption and have also tried removing all encryption...but no luck.
Here are my current router settings:
Band 2.4 GHz B+G
Mode AP
Channel 9
Authentication Open
Preamble type Long
Broadcast SSID Disable
Encryption None
Use 802.1x Authentication Disabled
Phone Details
HTC Touch
Browser Netfront/IE
My laptops, DS Lite, Wii can connect and work with the router...
Any help will be highly appreciated
Check that you don't have MAC ADDRESS FILTERING at the router. It may be hidden under Filter settings, like my D-Link is. This may sound trivial, but more than once I forgot about the MAC filtering.
If that doesn't help you, then just to narrow it down, at my home I use WEP and disable SSID broadcast also, and my Touch can connect fine, and fast.
Scratch the last post! I had the same problem with my TOUCH..Just put the power level to the max (i.e. go Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Wireless LAN -> Power Mode -> and slide all the way LEFT to Best Performance) and all hail ..your problem solved
I also use a Touch. I put the slider all the way to the right (Best Battery) and I connect fine. You people must have a big house, or a crap router?

Wifi Problem!
Hi guys,
I've got a problem and I'm hoping you can help me out..
I've got a HTC TOUCH and when I got it the Wifi connection was working just fine.. I could connect to any WIFI network and Browse the internet.
After a month or two, my phone wouldn't connect to my home wifi network anymore. And neither would it connect to any other wifi networks (I tried!)..
I've been all over the internet trying to figure out what could have happened and if someone else was having these problems to.
I just can't find the answer and I feel like I already tried everything I could think of..
Hope some of you knows what to do..
I'd suggest looking at the Touch forum... I've got no experience of Touch devices, but it may be a Radio ROM issue...
kinda same issue I am facing ! donno
MY HTC TOUCH never connects to NETGEAR WIRELESS ACCESS POINT
but finds LINKSYS routers in a jiffy :O
are Wireless Access Point and.. Wireless routers different
they both emit diff. signals ?
I have the same issue with a TYTN II, can connect to the wireless, but can't open any web pages.
problem with htc & WPA-PSK passkey 25 characters
My htc tilt connects almost everywhere, but i have a problem with wpa-psk at work. The password is from 25 characters, I read some articles what WM cannot handle such length. Maybe it's possible to edit somehow the registry?
I have the same problem guys, what can we do to find a solution i tried everthing i could, and i even tested it out with my 2 wireless routers, and at public places it connects (at home it doesnt connect though).

Thanks a lot!
I had exactly the topic problem with manilla rom on my kaiser, could not use wifi any more. But with just sliding the meter to 'Best Performance' as suggested, wifi it once again works like a charm.
HTC Touch wifi solve
I had the same problem with my htc in WEP it dosen't browse, I changed the router to a better wifi protection like WPA-PSK, connected and worked fine, for some reason it only work's fine for a couple of minutes, I readed this post to put the sidebar in best performance and now everything works fine. An advice don't use WEP it's not secure at all.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_security maybe you fine this interesting and helpful.
I'm running into a problem were I can connect to an AP at work and surf the net fine but when I disassociate I cant connect to it again for a whole day. The AP must be saving some info and therefore will wait for the DHCP lease time to finish before allowing the touch to re-connect. I tried my laptop and was able to connect 3-4 times and never have a problem so it is isolated to the touch and windows mobile 6.1. To find some more info out I was able to clone the mac of the touch and use it as the laptops wifi cards mac. It connected fine on 3 consecutive tries.
Maybe windows mobile is missing some commands when disassociating from an AP and as a result leaving info out in nowhere land confusing the router.
Thanks for any help!
ok, here's me joining the club... dunno what happened... working one day, getting crap the next.
exact same problem as everyone else...connects to the wireless network, then when you try to surf, page cannot be found...
Exact same problem here.
In the beginning everything fine. Connecting to my home WiFi and using the internet without problems (weather, stocks, opera, email, google maps, even skype voip).
Then, last month, all programs are unable to find anything on the internet, although the device reports it is connected to my (unchanged) home WiFi.
All these programs work fine when the device is connected to the internet through activesync (usb cable).
Also this whole time I have been using my home WiFi with a laptop from both Vista and Ubuntu, with no problems, so I guess it's not the router.
Also have read in other fora about these wifi working - wifi not working "cycles" other people have had, with various WM devices. And various tricks like shutting wifi off and immediately on again.
I even hard reseted the device. Problem still there.
WTF?
Connected once only
Connected once only for a few minutes to my home router dir 310 D-Link, worked fine and fast. After that I closed the connection. Next day I tried to connect but my HTC Touch 3G doesn't see the router. I see any other routers, but I do not see mine. I connected to some friends routers with WEP and WPA encription just to be sure the phone working. During this I didn't changed the router or the phone settings. It is very strange. The problem maybe comes from the router.
I'm having the same issues with my HD2. Looking all over the place and seems to be a common fault, but thus far with no cure, I tried the power save mode
From new it worked like a dream, but then one day it would connect to AP's but act as if not connected. I flashed my ROM with the VERY impressive Merlion Leo v 2.66 and it all started working again. Then yesterday, it stopped again. I don't want to reflash, so I'm working hard to find a cure, and will report as soon as I find one.
---EDIT---
I've found a cure (for mine at least), not sure if it will work for everyone, and haven't managed to test it at any other AP's except for my home Router, but all I did was set the network card properties (Broadcom 802.11 DHD Network Adapter) to 'Use server-assigned IP address' instead of 'Use specific IP address'. I'm not sure why this worked as there was no IP address conflicts because there were no other devices connected to my router when I had problems, but it works for me, hopefully permanently
Good luck.
Try this. Its work perfect for me!

have I missed a step? I've put in passwords for both home and work but it never auto connects when in range!? it shows the icon that multiple wireless networks are available etc but I have to manually hit my router in the list for it to connect..
I'm sure I've missed something simple... Any tips?

same problem, seems that HTD2 only saves the last wireless network you connected to

set up static ip

hello help,
my wife has an htc hd2 phone and i am trying to connect it to our home network. we have an mn700 microsoft router. i have security on it WEP
and on channel 3. The phone is asking for a network key and i put in the wep key and and put it on channel 3 it
states that iam connected but we still can not surf the web.
all other wireless computers and laptops in the house i have assigned a
static ip, i oculd give her phone a static ip but i can not find where or how to do this on htc hd2 phone.
i am thinking that this is the solution, if not please point in the right direction.
also ineed step by step directions on the phone since it is not mine i do not know to much about it.
thanks,
craig
I'm right there with ya, exact same problem. It's amazing to me that a device as sophisticated as this is so difficult to set up. Here are my posts from the t-mobile forum..PLEASE HELP...
I just got my htc hd2. So far I love it. my last phone was a G1 and it was able to automatically switch to my home wireless network when I got in range. Is this possible on the hd2? Also Is it possible to set a static IP address for these devices? I have not been able to get it to work on my LAN. If anyone can give me a walkthrough to set the phone up so It automatically switches to my LAN with a static IP when I'm in range this phone will be pefect...wife just got the cliq xt and she's teasing me... TIA
can anyone tell me how to set a static IP address and how to get it to connect over my LAN. I called customer care and the person i spoke to only had a set of written guide lines and couldn't tell me how to do it, said he had never been asked before. So, Here's what I've done so far to get this device to work with my wireless at home. 1st, Click START > SETTINGS> Wireless Controls and turn Wi-Fi on. It sees my Wireless network and the icon spins to let me know it's attempting to connect? I've put my network password in before so eventually I get a green check mark. So next I tap Advanced in the lower right corner and get to the Wireless Lan page. Then I tap the Change Network button which again lists my wireless networks in range and mine is listed as connected. so then I click the Network Adapters Tab, which brings me to my first question. What should be the setting for "My network card connects to:" I assume "The Internet" but I could be wrong. Below is a long list of adapters I can modify, which brings me to my next question which adapter do I modify? I assume the Broadcom 802.11 Network Adapter, when I tap it I get a screen where I can set a static IP and DNS. I figured I had it at that point, except It doesn't seem to work!. The wi-fi antenna icon is at the top and I have two arrows next to it pointing left and right. green check on my wi-fi network, but when I try to use Opera browser it says ERROR! Connection closed by remote server and I cannot ping the ip i set in the device from my network. I go back turn Wi-Fi off and everything works again. AM I DOING ANY OF THIS RIGHT? thanks again.
Okay, got it to the point to where I can ping the device on my network. The adapter I had to set the static ip to was the Broadcom 802.11 DHD Network Adapter. Using Wi-Fi toggle to turn it on and off and it responds well and connects reliably. However, when I try to browse it fires up the 3G connection. I have just now been able to use remote desktop on my local network using the servers IP, without it turning on the 3g connection. Looks great in 16bit color, but no landscape mode? Most other apps, facebook the browser and others make the 3g connection come back on. How can I make all data connections go over my lan? almost there....
I got it to work, not sure if this is best practice or not, and it's definitely not elegant, but it works.
1. Touch Start > Settings > Wireless Controls and Turn wi-fi on
2. Select your wireless network and enter your password or key
3. Once you are connected (green check), touch Advanced > Change Network (under the ssid) you will see your wireless connection again and it should say connected
4. touch the wireless adapters tab at the bottom. Here at the top select my network card connects to The Internet and select your wireless adapter from the list below.
5. set your static IP address and Name Server info. Touch OK and then return to the home screen
At this point you should have the wi-fi icon with two solid arrows next to your 3g icon.
6. Touch Start > Settings > menu > all settings > connections > connections > advanced tab > Select Networks.
7, change both drop downs to my isp (may be different if you named it something different)
to get back to 3g repeat steps 6 and 7 to switch both dropdowns back to tmobile data or whatever yours was originally and turn off the wi-fi (or download wi-fi toggle) and turn wi-fi off. 3g should come back on automatically if you run an app that connects to the web. if not turn data connection back on in the comm manager.
This works but this sucks. Is there an easier way to Automatically switch between 3g and wi-fi? Am I making a simple problem over complicated? or is there and app for this? Android beats winmo 6.5 on this one.
still no wifi
hello,
trying for days, i can not get your setup to work. still connected
but no internet browsing. i took the same ip that i am using for the phone and put it on the laptop---so i know it is the phone and not anything going on
with the router.
craig
To the OP, i am by no means an expert on this topic. This is how i got mine to work. only advice i could give is to make sure you are editing the correct adapter and if you named your connection settings something different double check. How far do u get with the instructions? do you get a green check after you put in your network key?
I can switch back and forth between wi-fi and 3g no problem but it would be nice to have it done automatically when i'm in range...can anyone help
finally
we reset the phone and then followed your directions. Viola! it worked!
we are working on how to setup identies for different networks,
thanks again mr1credible.
Update. My phone locked up hard and kept telling me my password was incorrect so I had to do a hard reset...After the reset, I decided to take another look at the Network settings..I've got it set up now so that All I have to do is turn wi-fi on and it will use my wi-fi as the preferred connection. All I did was follow steps 1-6 as previous except when I got to step 7, I only changed the second drop down to My ISP. Both Icons 3G and Wi-Fi appear at the top but I can remote desktop my PC and connect to my shares on my local network. I also have it set to automatically shut off my wi-fi if it cannot connect in 30 sec, So when I leave for work in the morning I don't have to remember to shut it off, and I don't have to switch back and forth between settings anymore. All i have to do is turn wi-fi on when I get home. Not bad. Still would like to have it automatically detect my network and connect when in range but I can live with this....
Try SolarWinds Orion IP Address manager.
It Manage your entire IP infrastructure from an intuitive web console .
Also it Prevent your subnets and DHCP scopes from filling up with preventative alert notifications .
