My boss liked the dialer I had installed on my new Mogul, and asked me to make his look the same. Well I thought I loaded the same one I did, but apparently not. I loaded the HTC smart dialer extracted from the Touch, but instead got a blank dialer screen when I pull up phone. I threw in another dialer I had handy, but then got stuck at a default looking dialer screen asking me to enter my SIM pin, and that emergency calls can only be made without a new sim pin. Sprint phone, no sim.....
I plan on doing a hard reset Monday, but now have no idea where to get a reliable smart dialer for the Mogul that has larger buttons...
Any ideas?
Start looking for a new job..
Did he happen to have SPB Pocket Plus? If so, there's a Safe Mode in there that you might be able to get into.
Oh man, dude, that sucks. I'd do exactly what you're doing...as far as a dialer goes, you can search for one on here or ppcgeeks. Good Luck!

Check out post #8 on this page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=378225
The dialer is called MogulBigButtonDialer and to skin the dial pad use the TOUCH CAB.
The final product will look like this. ( All in Black )
I will also include a screen shot of the one I use, but customized ( Colored )
This is exactly what I need! Even nicer than the one I'm using. I'll get my boss fixed up Monday morning. I think he'll be happy.
Thanks [email protected]$ !
Ok, loaded the dialer, then the touch skin, and the 1 key is missing. I see just part of the key, and number 1 is missing...any ideas?
Ok, found it:

...it seems, if I use the Fit4Cat tweaker to turn off the skinning of the phone, the t-mobile dial pad goes back to being normal windows-look one, but the smartdial no longer works! If i choose the menu option, nothing happens and typing part of a number in doesnt do a contacts lookup. Does anyone know what went wrong?
I don't know the why's and where fores but I hear you on the ugly TMobile Dialpad.
I used one of THESE (the reptile_red one) to change thedial pad and I still have smart dial functionality.
Hi guys, just wondering which dial pads people are using/likeing.
I have downloaded several Iphone style ones, but to be honest im really thinking of going back to the standard one. I havent found one yet that has smartdial working, lets you video call, and the keypad work in a call.
Just wondering what other poeple are using (as most of the Iphone threads are getting very difficult to keep track of now, and I fancy something a bit different)
Cheers all
Surely someone must have a few to recomend?
Are you looking for something like this?

I disabled my smart dialer because I find it a pain in the neck.
Admittedly, it doesn't look quite as nice, but at least I don't have to sit there waiting for it to search through my contacts while I wait for the blasted thing to figure out what I *might* be typing in (and if I WAS after a contact, I would have used the contacts app anyway....)
I'm using the one from zombienexus that ericc191 suggested, and so far it's working perfectly. I believe it fits your criteria (unless smartdial is supposed to do some other funky stuff that I have no idea about).
The only thing is, though, it doesn't skin the speed dial and call history, so currently I'm stuck with the ugly blue buttons from the standard dialpad without any idea how to replace them.
Make sure you backup everything though.
i have a matter with this dial pad , not use for my PDA

I have never used this dial pad so I'm not exactly sure but.. I've learned that if you toy around with your phone enough, eventually you'll get it the way you want it.

Which one did you install? Mine is the exact one there. I think it's the black extra for 3g video.
Thanks guys
Hi all,
What am I missing here? I've used three different dialer skins (right now I'm using a version of the big-button one), and the "redial" button on the bottom right of the screen doesn't seem to work.
I'm talking about the button that (in most versions that I've seen) has the phone icon with an arrow pointing away from the phone, to the right.
When I bring up the dialer, it says "Last call: xxx-xxxx", so I'd like a way to dial that number again with one touch instead of having to go to the call history, which is what I have to do now.
Any ideas? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.
you need to be more specific about which dialer you are using, there are many. Have you tried just hitting the "talk" hardbutton, after pulling up the dialpad. It redials the last number on the screen for me.
If it doesn't then you should try Paul Hammon's big button dialpad for mogul over at pdaphonehome.com. every stock functions are retained, including smartdial and redial.
i tried multiple skins and ran into that same issue.. literally 20 skins easily.. i tried paul's skin and all my questions were answered.. the skin works flawless and I personally love it.
- ReDz
I am running into the same issue with tons and tons of different skins...such as the standard iphone, retail iphone, eten, marshall, and lots of other ones..... REDIAL just DOES NOT WORK!! I am sure everyone is experiencing these issues.
have we figured out any solutions yet?
The first reply was correct -- all of these other skins are based on a non-sprint dialer, so some things don't work (like redial, but more importantly, 911!)
Use Paul Hammons Touch dialer and it'll be fine. It's just as skinnable, with the only down-side that I've seen thusfar that the contact picture is slightly smaller.
I have a dialer skin that everything works correctly, including # codes. Search for Mogul Big Button Dialer. It is an improved version of the Kaiser skin.

This is the same Paul Hammons dialer that Skatsev spoke of in the previous reply. The original thread is on pdaphonehome.com
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-6800-xv6800/91652-sprint-native-big-button-dialer-theme-here.html
for those of you who want a different dialer skin other than the default one on the phone, and you don't like paul's version, there is another skin that i found on xda this morning that works perfectly on the mogul
it allows the use of the codes as well (example ##778, etc...) and doesn't mess up your emergency 911 dialing either.
I didn't create this. i just dl it this morning on my way out the door and ran it on my phone while at work today. personally, i love it.
Give it a shot.

This was discussed in numerous posts above. Please read through this thread again.

like i said, if you want ALL functions of the stock dialer (redial, 911, ##functions, Smartdial, etc., etc.), you have only two options that i know of: Paul Hammon's dialer from pdaphonehome.com or the stock dialer itself.
If you want to prove me wrong, then please do extensive testing before posting it.
If you look through the thread on pdaphonehome. com concerning Paul's dialer, you will realize within that dialer, there are other "skins" available to make it look like the Touch dialer, etc. There are also instructions on how to skin the dialer yourself to some extent. I knew nothing about skinning, and I was able to create my own skins with that dialer including using vista-type 3d icons and iphone icons. Skinning options are limited on that dialer, but they are there.

Hi, I wanted to use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311225&highlight=touch , dialer on my 6800, but it doesnt work with the system menus, the stuff liek ##DATA# and the like.
Please tell me how to make it work, or if anyone is kind enough to do so, can you please modify it to work on the Titan. I am new to this stuff, and I dont want to mess with anything that much, this is my first Windows Mobile device, so please if you can help me out. Thanks.
Go here it's fixed to work with CDMA by Paul Hammons
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-6800-xv6800/91652-sprint-native-big-button-dialer-theme-here.html
thanks for posting this mate, but i already tried this one, and i didnt like it, the ## stuff works, but it felt a bit more sluggish, and the blue was freaking me out. lol, i just want one where its the true touch dialer, like the one that was posted here for the wizard. Thanks for the reply though, god i wish i knew how to do this crap, lol.
Oh, I also tried an addon that was posted in taht thread where it made it look like the original touch one, but it too feels sluggish on my mogul for some reason, and when you dial numbers, it brings up that old menu type thing for recent callers, which overlaps teh backspace button, instead of just using the space in teh window.
If you turn off tones in the options menu it'll get rid of the lag.

what do you mean by tones? color tones or sounds?
sound tones.
also, while you are in the options menu, if you turn off smartdialing, you won't get that overlapping box and numbers will show up on the top row. I personally think smartdialing is too valuable, despite any cosmetic flaws.
just wished i can send an sms from the smartdialing window.
just follow the link
http://www.o3touch.com/
the best dialer out there only released yesterday and its free for now !!
Any screens, as none on site either?!?!?
there is a pdf file under manuals that will show images and how to use it.
Cheers for that, don't really like the look of it.
I'm not seeing the advantage...using the stock dialer does both the number and the name search at the same time. Keyboard looks too complex, taking the alpha/numeric stock dialer, and splitting it into seperate screens.
To each their own.
i think it is f...g amazing also! going to give it a try. it happened to me that instead of dialing the contact i dialed the 3-4 numbers corresponding to the letters. i almost never type a number so why keep them?
this app can do everything except a good cup of coffee even taking you straight to settings or programs. if you'll download and read the pdf manual you'll also be at least intrigued. it is an app you can turn it on (loading it ) or off, this is not a skin. it is a completely new concept. the graphics (has one skin for night and one for the day) are not bad also....
i installed it and going to settings i discovered that you can add a second language by yr choice by typing the letters of yr language in the dialer (you can build the dialer).
the program is small and occupies only a little over 400 K.
look at the second pic, i started changing the keyboard (first two buttons).
It's good that it's free. But it's not the type of dialer I am looking for/forward to. I really want a vga dialer which has big keys (not just like 3/5 of the screen space). Something similar to the minimal dialer here. But that one is for qvga screen. I am hoping if someone could port this to vga screen or I'll have to do it myself.... and I am not a pro. It would take a little less time than forever .
amazing is something else
just like u said....
to each their own.....
i find it making sms email and dialing with above 200 contacts very easy.
the diamonds system is more difficult.
read the manual u can change almost anything u like in the settings
and when u get use to the touch system...i just cant work with out it......

i bet we'll see lots of skins in the nearest future. you might think it is ugly but give it a try....sending sms without switching programs and easy typing from yr dial pad are only two of the things that make it superior to the diamond's system not to mention the fact that you can build yourself (in settings) the keyboard with yr kind of fonts and keys arrangement. beautiful things are not always also very practical
i confirm that it is ugly and it looks like an exploded bag full of letters.

Me the Ugly full of letters programer.
It is not about been beauty, it is about doing the job. Some users with 1500 contacts and up actually did try it. They never stop using it.

It's funny that you compare this dialer with the o3touch.
Without the O3 can you do Email, SMS, and dialing in the same application?
Can you get Clear Big letters fonts on incomming SMS or incomming call?
While these programs are shiny and sparkeling , they havy and most of the time have troubles with doing the things they supposed to do.
This program is light (less then 300K) , stable, compatible with VGA screens, and short the numbers of operation moves from the user (smart user or not).
So if the program is look sparkly or not is not the issue, but I think the dark skin looks great on the diamond or the Touch pro.
...and what makes it so special for us less-smart people?
