oo.. sorry OOT..
i'm getting to use Atom Life recent days, it's realy possiable to SYNC with PC via BT.(My Laptop have build-in BT module)
but there is some diff with SYNC via USB cable, SYNC via BT, you must establish your connect from PPC, where is SYNC, menu, connect with BT
then your laptop will receive a message, ask you to connect or not

Hi!
I have set my ActiveSync in options that it should only snyc on connection and set schedule to manual. But when my XDAII is in its cradle and the PC is running, the device turns on and performs a sync about every 15 minutes. How can this be avoided?
Thanks for help.
Dominik
there is such an option
i just cant recall if it's in activesync on the pc
or activesync on the xda
Try this:
On activ sync on the pc
open up options go to shedule and set server also to manually. see if this work
Hi!
I have already set server option to manual, but that doesnt help.
The problem is, that the XDAII turns on, syncs and doesnt turn off after 5 minutes like I told it to do in the xda settings. It just turns off the backlight, keeps on and starts to sync again after 15 minutes.
Are there any Active Sync options on the XDA itself anyway?
Thanks for help
Dominik
I have the same problem like you.
XDA2 syncronize and then, after about 1 minute it disconnect.
and you are using the 3.7.1 version ?
the older ones are kinda strange
Hi!
I use the 3.7 which came with my XDAII.
Any differences to 3.7.1?
If so, where can I get it?
Best regards
Dominik
Yes, I'm using 3.7.1
I performed a full reset and my PC runs WinXP.
You can find ActSync 3.7.1 at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/resources/downloads/pocketpc/activesync37.mspx
When I try to make a backup during this process the connection shut down and show following msg "Connection to device was broken during backup. The operation was canceled. Your backup file has been returned to its previous state."
I don't know what I do?
I forgot. I'm using a XDA usb cable on my XDA2 maybe this is the problem. What do you think?
When I'm using the cradle everything is perfect.
I bought the XDA usb cable in order to charge XDA2 while on the road with usb cigarret lighter adapter.
Hi!
I have updated to 3.7.1, but the non-scheduled regular syncs problem remains.
I think this may also be caused by WinXP because when I deinstalled Active Sync, Windows kept checking the connected XDAII every now and then, trying to establish a connection. As I have set ActiveSync to "sync at connect", this regular connect may be what Windows does.
What do you think?
Dominik
Are you using the original cradle/cable? I think the XDA usb cable doesn't works with XDA2 except as a charger.
Hi!
Original cables for me.

Dear all, is that possible to activesync mini and pc without USB? Whenever using usb to sync, mini will be charged. Can i prevent this auto charging problem coz lets say the battery in my mini is always full, will it do any harm when it keep charging whenever we activesync? If we can activesync using BT, what is the procedure?
Just go to bluetooth settings and do activesync setup. you will need to re pair your PC. works really well.
rmg, what do u mean by repair the pc, can u provide me with more details and step on doing this, appreciate your help thanks
rmg, i did what u told me, but when i click start button on the "bluetooth activesync setup:" the message box come out "please start bounding with other bluetooth device which support serial port or activesync profile as your activesync partner". i cannot get it done, can u help
how i do is it
1) bond PC and Phone in Bluetooth Settings in windows
2) on phone go to Activesync - tools - Options - Options - Dropdown box
Eather Bluetooth or 19200 default
3)Open active sync pc
4) Active Sync on Phone - Tools - Connect Via Bluetooth
and that is how i connect
In the advanced settings for your BT dongle you will need to check what Bluetooth Serial port number is being used. I found mine under local services. Once you have that go into the proerties for AS and where it lists the serial port to use put the COM Port number of your BT Serial port in that box. Now when you hit the AS button they should be able to connect with each other. Hope that helps.
One of the requirements is for you to have a ActiveSync 3.8.
Once you have that installed a new port will also be installed with the Windows BT stack. When the BT stack is detected a new port will also be available.
Now the next step is to go to the PPC. Hit Start go to Settings, System and then Blue Tooth Settings. Hit the Start button and it should bring you to the BT activation where you turn it on. Have everything checked. Once this is done, start pairing the laptop by having it detect the PPC and set a passkey for protection. Once they are paired, launch ActiveSync in the PC and go to File and Connection Settings. Once in this screen pit a check mark on the Allow Serial... Set it to the new port set by your BT Stack.
Once this is done, on the PPC, hit Start and go to Programs select ActiveSync. Hit Tools and then Connect via Bluetooth. This should then start working.
One bug I did find is that once you connect your device to your charger and initialize the ActiveSync over BT everything will work well. BUt once you remove it from the power conenction, your device will soft reset.
ok i will try, thanks to all of you
Stupid Q. If you're using BT for Activesync, the PC will still act like a pass-thru internet gateway, right? And you can now surf the net via BT (the same way you do it with wifi)?
Thanks.
@MC_Oliver
The answer is yes. If you are doing ActiveSync over Bluetooth it is the same as ActiveSync with a cable. You should have the same icon on the top of your screen. You can even browsse the files in your PPC.
Thanks dre.
Btw, curious if you have the same problem as I do in this thread? Thanks again.

Go to ActiveSync Connection manager. Lowest option is something like "Allow ethernet and RAS connection with this desktop". Put a check into the checkbox and you should be set.

Yes. You can either get a wireless lan SD-Card for your mini and hook into your WLAN if you have one or you get a Bluetooth dongle for your machine you are running ActiveSync on. Then setup ActiveSync and your mini to use Bluetooth as syncing connection and all will be working fine.
that there dongle..
mate thanks for your response, i have the blue tooth dongle and although it does let me conenct to my PC - it wont to the internet via my adsl until i hook up the usb cable. is there a specific bluetooth or internet setting?
regards
juan

ActiveSync has no bluetooth out of the box. You have to use your Bluetooth driver software to map a virtual serial port to the bluetooth device. When this option is enabled you have to do the pairing of magician and PC again, and you need to setup the magician to use the virtual serial port as well. When both devices are set up correctly the magician talking bluetooth will appear to the PC as a device on some virtual COM port such as COM 5 or whatever. Then you can setup ActiveSync to use COM5 for serial connection (although it is bluetooth) and all is fine.
How to exactly set up the virtual com on your PC differs from BT driver to BT driver. Maybe someone can give exact step-by-step directions, it was a long fiddle for me as well...
I've managed through pain and misery to get Activesync to work through bluetooth (not easy with widcomm stacks as drivers).
When my PC boots up, Activesync (PC) will complain that the bluetooth COM port isn't connected (obviously because my phone isn't connected through bluetooth 24/7)
So everytime I reboot my PC, I have to re-check the COM port connection in the connection options (PC) to make Activesync listen to my bluetooth COM.
Any suggestions?
Also, I know that when my phone is connected via USB, my phone will gain access to the internet (My PC has the internet connection and shares it to the phone). With bluetooth I havent been able to get this to work. Yet both USB & bluetooth work through Activesync. Is there something Im missing?
Thnx! I hope this isn't too specific/complicated like question
I used to have some of the same problems. What I found that usually it was 2 things causing it.
1. Activesync - Installation or Configuration
2. BT Software - Installation, Configuration or Need BT Software upgrade
What fixed my issue was 2 fold: activesync settings & needed to upgrade my dongle's software.
Activesync: When I installed 4.5 it setup a network connection that kept running in. And when I started up my PC I could see the icon running in my sys-tray (and would have troubles on and off again either with bluetooth / USB sync. What I found that worked for activesync was uninstall and make sure you check off allow wireless activesync connection. I've also found it likes to use com 3 for BT activesync.
BT Dongle: I have Motorola PC850 dongle and found that there was a great new BT Stack update that would hold the settings even if I turned my PC off for weeks at a time or removed the dongle to somewhere else. Plus it fixed the issue I had with using my BT stereo headset, to listen to music with out pops and skips. Oh In your BT settings make sure that com 3 or what ever your using is the same as activesync
Hope I can test those few tweaks.
However, after connecting my phone to activesync by USB, now my phone won't even connect by bluetooth to my PC anymore.
STUPID STUPID bluetooth stacks

Isolate the problem first, if you can get another charger for you unit so that it would remove possibility of faulty charger. Next is to check charging PINS (maybe dent/dirty or something). Replacement battery! if a replacement Batt works, then problem is your battery. just my two cents!

Just found out that you have to connect it electrically not just physically for it to charge.
I used to connect it to my home PC (installed ActiveSync in it), and it charges normal.
When I connect it to my office PC (no ActiveSync in it), it won't charge.
Since I don't want to install ActiveSync in my office PC, I installed Softick Card Export on my Atom. Turn it on each time I want to connect to my office PC, connect the USB cable, PC identifies it as a new storage, and voila! Orange lamp doesnt blink and it charges

Agree with adinda in the first paragraph. I use the WM5torage that came built in WM6 roms. Since I don't have admin rights to install MS Sync, I just use WM5torage to turn the atom into a memory card reader hehehe. quite kewl!!

bro,
Before connecting ATOM to usb. click start\programs\system\WM5storage
click activate button on your lower right. Status should be active on top of the screen. connect usb to ATOM. and walla! you have a minisd memcard reader or removable storage hehehehe.
Once done dont forget to deactivate WM5torage so that ATOM can access storage card.
hope this helps
Works also with WM 6.5
I'm sorry to up this old thread =)
Just to say that I also had a charge probleme with my phone: charging by USB was very very slow, to reach 20% I had to put my PPC on charge all the night.
This solution works fine while I'm running on WM 6.5 ; )
