'Bootloader mode' protection - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hey Guys,
I'am wondering if there is a possibility to protect the bootloader mode.
For example if you have installed a 'GPS tracking software' and your phone gets stolen, it's very easy to flash a new ROM on your phone and nobody is able to trace you anymore. Or if you have PDA's for your personal, and you don't want them to **** with it.
That way your phone is totally protected!
Maybe somebody is able to make a .CAB so you need to enter a password every time you enters the bootloader mode, or is it not possible to use the keyboard in that mode?
Anyway: IS THERE ANY SOLUTION
'cause I am just a rookie
Thanks in advance,
GertieBoy

You cant patch your bootloader with a cab ... it have nothing to do with the OS
Bootloader is a part of the spl

Depending on your device, you could build something like that in using one of Olipro's developer SPL versions. You better know what you're doing though, because unless you are also security unlocked & knw how to DL data to the device, if you make an error you could be in for trouble.
The easiest thing I could think of though would be to modify the BL acceptable model number to something non-exsistent, after installing your rom of choice, but then again, there is always ways to bypass the SPL.

Reset button broken-cant bootloader mode
Is there another way to put a 6700 into bootloader mode without the stylus hole being part of process? the reset button broke off my ppc 6700 apache.

Problems after WM6 Upgrade :(

After (I think) successfully upgrading to WM6, I've had a few problems...
1) I can't seem to soft reset anymore (holding down Power at the top + the reset button)...it seems the only way I can now reset my unit is by physically removing the battery...
2) I can't access the bootloader SERIAL mode...I can access the options for the kernel hive and formatting storage, but no success being able to get into USB mode to reflash my unit
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated - I only bought this phone on Friday
1. This was hard reset in WM2003 - for soft reset just press the reset button
2. You need to press and hold power+reset+record(WMP) buttons at the same time
I suggest you read WIKI first before asking questions which are answered a million times
Thank you for the prompt reply.
I can understand your frustration with many people constantly asking these questions, but please don't make me feel like an idiot when I've actually read the Wiki and tried Googling the problem prior to posting.
To clarify, I know *how* to access the SERIAL option (I had to do it to upgrade from 2003 to WM6 to begin with). My point is that holding Reset+Power+Record doesn't work anymore. It just continues the boot process and goes straight to the Windows Mobile splash screen. The reset button, in and of itself, does nothing at all. I've tried everything from just tapping it a few times to pressing and holding it for upwards of 30 seconds...but it doesn't seem to do anything for me.
Try to hold and press power+record+cam buttons then press reset while holding those buttons.
Yeah, it does nothing...I have a feeling that the actual reset button is no longer working on the unit...not sure if that's to do with the upgrade to WM6, or if it's a hardware problem and just happens to be coincidence :-/
don't take xplode's advise wrongly. it's just that reading AND understanding the WIKI is important especially for beginners like yourself.
if you think you've successfully upgraded to WM6, it's probably because of the "Congratulations" message that was displayed... well, you're almost there, though not quite.
try to fully understand the no/yes/yes instruction in the WIKI... the reset+power+record combination is NOT what you should be doing. it has been replaced by another... here's the thread that could guide you... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327978&highlight=kitl
and here's the pertinent wiki page...

good luck and welcome to the BA community.
Anyway if this that you try to explain is that the hardware buttons no longer work, you can try the MTTY method, if you have read the wiki you already know what exactly to do
Thanks raymonds, I will try not to, but I just don't want people thinking I'm yet another new member that doesn't read anything before posting, because I know how much I hate that too...I tried reading up on my problems for 4 hours last night before deciding to post because I couldn't find anything else to help.
I have successfully upgraded to WM6 and went through the no/yes/yes steps - the issue is that I want to go back to WM2003 or WM5...they seemed far less problematic for my phone for some reason..one problem I'm facing now is that my BA, pure and simple, no longer recognizes that I have a cellular carrier at all, making it essentially useless as a phone. When I try to go into SIM Manager, it hangs for a while, then goes into the screen saying that only emergency calls can be made...but when I try to put in my PIN, it says "Unknown SIM error", though the SIM works fine in my other phone...
I'm trying to use the Power/Reset/Record to either try reflashing in the hopes that'll resolve my issues, or downgrade...either way, it's not allowing me to do so, and I obviously can't do this while the phone is booted into WM6. It just seems like the reset button is no longer working, since neither combination that uses it (Power+Reset or Power+Camera+Reset) works anymore.
try to downgrade with MAUpgradeUT_NOID.exe, and then reupgrade, another thing you can do is to reflash the radio rom. The MTTY method resets bootloader settings which may be the solution to your problem.
MTTY under Windows XP is explained HERE
xplode, mtty requires one to do the power+reset+record combination, which he currently cannot do.
is this a second-hand unit?
Hm, there was another way to put your device into bootloader mode but i have never tryed it, in most of the WM2003 upgrades there was EnterBL.exe, and when you copy it to the device and execute it the device goes to bootloader mode...
but it also creates problems - read here
Also i had problems in the past with the latest version of MTTY (1.45) and used previous one 1.01 which worked like a charm
Sweet - thanks xplode and raymonds for your time.
Unfortunately I can't try these as I am at work right now, but I do appreciate the suggestions and will try them as soon as I get home.
If I can't get it to work, oh well - off to the service depot and a (probably) expensive lesson learned.
Please keep us updated, about your issue
Thanks guys...
So, I'm taking it that the radio stack is now corrupt, since it's no longer even showing a version number on my BA. I tried the methods xplode suggested - when I enter the unit into KITL mode, I take it I'm supposed to use USB Active as the transport method, since MTTY won't recognize a device otherwise, and my phone just boots into Windows from that point.
When I try to run MTTY though, all it does is display "kITLª" over and over again...I'm not sure if that's normal, or even how to enter a prompt of some kind...
I'm starting to wonder if maybe I should just take it to the depot, pay the $75 I was quoted, and learn my lesson... :-/
Any other suggestions, or am I just totally doing what you suggested wrong?
You do not need to enter KITL because this is used to debug your WM build using Platform builder
Just try to put your device to botloader mode and then use MTTY to instruct the bootloader what to do, or just reflash radio and then new rom

if you can help in any way, im tempted to trash this phone
I honestly have no ideaaa what in the world this means, but obviously its not good, i tried the soft and hard reset, but yeahh nothing.
CAN ANYONE HELP ME!!!
and Im serious, when i say i know nothing about this phone
I switched from a Blackberry Pearl to the 8525.
I can tell you that what you're seeing is the boot loader, from here you can hard reset the device to try and get it back.
I had this happen once before on my jasjam.
Plug in the USB and Launch the ROM installer (http://www.america.htc.com/support/8525/software-downloads.html for offical)
has gotten me out of being stuck in the boot loader plenty. That or try loading an memorycard with a rom image named HERMIMG.rbh (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_SDCardFlashing)
Mmmm,
I would be very careful. As ruxton said you are in bootloader mode. As you do not know anything about this phone lets be a bit more specific. (I hope its well your phone )
The bootloader mode is there to load (flash) a new firmware (Can be the OS, a radio rom, etc...) As we speak about the kernel of your pda, there is obviously a risk to distroy it. This is why it is hardly recommended to install another SPL (hardspl from olipro) before playing. But this is another story... for the moment.
IF the firmware is not corrupted, you can leave the bootloader mode:
Try first to "soft reset" your pda (little hole on the bottom of the phone. Push the button with the stylus). It will reinitialise the pda without loosing data
Second: Remove the battery for 1 minute and insert it again. Soft reset if necessary
Third: the hard reset method. Here you loose your data: Push "soft key left" (above the ms logo), "soft key right" (above the ok) maintain together and perform a soft reset at the same time (see above). Answer to the questions.
If this does not work, this could mean that the firmware is corrupted. You will have to flash... But again...this is another story. Lets see if it is necessary.
Still lost on trying to fix this thing guys.
Sorryy i told you i was new at all this.
Can anyone help me try and flash it with my SDcard?
all the info you need to unbrick your phone is here:

plz help

My heads spinning from all the information aka post and threads, but im still stuck like my wizard on the 2nd splash screen.
I wasnt trying to upgrade the rom jst clear storage but after everything ive read i would like to upgrade to wm6 but first i want to get my wizard working.
I tried backing up the rom to the sd card but I get "You didn't get the proper security level to download a specific image" So i take it my wizard is cid locked.
My IPL:1.01 and SPL:1.06 does that mean its a g3. My activesync 4.5 doesnt pick up my wizard is it because it cant boot, i tried with it in bootloader mode still doesnt pick it up.
So plz point me in the right direction to fix my wizard
ok i think the place where im stuck at is cid unlocking my wizard with out using that imei site. any help or is there another way to do this.
This helped me when I was stuck on the first screen. For some reason, the Radio file was gone. Follow this exactly, it works. In my case (sounds like yours also), at the end of this you will at least have access to the phone again.

After your done. You will have a RGB screen, then follow these directions to load a base rom and unlock so you can keep going until you ca load WM6.1.

I've had many, many problems over the last 3 days trying to do this. I completed it all in less than a day, but when I used the phone it had terrible reception. I completely downgraded everything back to square one. Still bad phone reception. I was about to through it out the window, when someone called my wife's cell phone and she also had bad reception. I then put my sim in another phone, same problem. Well, at&t has a tower down for the last 3 days. What timing, it seems to work when not at home, but hard to test that way Anyway, moral of the story is. Don't give up, keep plugging along.
Good luck.
I'm pretty sure imei checker is for SIM unlocking.
For G3 CID unlocking and upgrading read the stickies in http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=289
If you can start your Wizard in bootloader, and it says "usb" in the lower-left, you can flash your original ROM. An active sync connection is not needed. Search for your carrier's ROM if you don't have it and I'd recommend the "no carrier ID" version of the RUU.
Have you tried a 'Hard Reset',hope it'll work,if it boots up into working OS and it already has IPL/SPL 1.xx,use lokiwiz02b tool to SIM/CID unlock the phone and than upgrade.
If it doesn't work still after Hard Reset, most probably, its Extended_Rom is corrupted, its required to reflash a new rom.
Activesync doesn't work in absence of a working OS and in Bootloaders mode. Its not required for flashing a rom.Just get the phone into Bootloaders and hook the phone with pc via usb cable and watch small usb appear at the bottom of the bootloader screen,if its there,it good to go and flash the rom.
ok so i downloaded the button rom finally but how do i flash it to my wizard.
Get your phone in Bootloaders, hook up the phone with pc via usb, watch small usb appear at the bottom of the Bootloader screen,if its there run the 'RUU' application,it'll start to flash,it stops at a certain percentage, don't get worried and do anything, after a couple of minutes it starts again, let it complete 100%,the phone'll restart and boot up in new OS.
which ruu application. I jst downloaded 1 which comes in the form of a rar file saying ruuwrapper. is that the right 1
So after lots and lots and lots more reading i realized i dont need a ruu. all i need to do is get into bootloader mode plug in the usb and run the wizard button rom. It worked perfectly my wizard is back to life yip pee.
Anyway i wud jst like to thank u guys for all the help and compliment u guys on a gr8 forum.
Now my next challenge is wm6 with touch flo.

Don't know what CID Lock is on phone - how to figure out

Hi all,
I have a iMate SP3 here that I'm trying to get working for a coworker. Long story short they did this once before and I re-flashed it with some ROM (no clue which one) to get it working. Well, they broke it again and it's at the bootloader screen.
Problem is, I have no clue what CID lock is on the phone. The SPL is 1.01.0107 and I can't really find any mention of it. The phone doesn't boot any further than the bootloader screen and needs to be flashed, but I'm not sure with what. So far it's rejected all the ROMs I've tried.
Info 2 in MTTY gives me the output below:
HTCSCDL___01 4š«@HTCE
Can anyone tell me what I can flash this phone with to get something booting on it again? Thanks

Titan stuck in splash screen. Incorrect bootloader, cannot manually go in bootloader

my titan has the incorrect bootloader when I was flashing a new rom and now I am unable to put the phone into bootloader because the camera button is broken. Is there any other ways to put into bootloader, or other ways to install a new bootloader. the phone will start up and then become stuck in splash and there is nothing else I can do.
Anything will help at this point...

Try assigning the camera button to another button. I don't know if this will work.
act like you are going to flash a new rom usig the usb method as soon as it get to the bootloader unplug it and try to flash a new splash screen..........this might work
Have you tried fixing the camera button? because i'm not sure there is a way to get into bootloader with the combo of a non-booting rom & broken hardware buttons. Here's a HTC Kaiser technicians manual in pdf. I realize you own a titan not a kaiser, but they come apart in a very similar way. this is what i used to help me pull apart my titan the first time. sometimes the buttons slip off the contact points on the main board and they just need to be set back into place. I doubt most people own a screwdriver small enough to grab the tiny screws inside these things, so if u are thinking about disassembling your phone consider getting yourself a cheap jewelery toolset from a hardware store that has a phillips screwdriver/bit.
thanks, i will take a look at the manual and let you know how it goes.
