Hi!
Can anyone help me with recommendations how to remove back cover from my XDA I? I tryed to do that, but unsuccessfully . I don't want to damage this device, so I decidied to ask some advice.
Xda I case open
Just use a slot screwdriver for the top two slot screws. Then T6 for bottom two. Then unit held screen face-down ; use a plastic lolly stick with sharpend flat edge to work between front and back case. It`s best to start at the bottom right edge, near the hard reset hole.
Using a downward push action, plus, practice the case should just pop apart. Work the stick around the bottom, forcefully. Things should just workout o.k. from there.
Remove the void sticker from screw using tweezers. With care it will remain in tact, and can be replaced.
Remember to be forcefull
anyone have some more details to get into the xda ( i amtrying to replace the LCD) pictures/instructions what ever i can get will be greatly appreciated
I used a T6 torx for the bottom screws and a standard flat blade for the top, remove stylus. If you have finger nails, force your thumb nail along the groove starting near the reset hole, this will pop the tabs, you can then slide your thumb nail all the way around and remove the back. You will then need to remove 2 very small crosshead screws, one at bottom left and the ither at the top offset to the right, this is under a label "warranty void". The flat cables can be removed by bringing forward with a tiny flat screw driver, the retaining tabs, on the small ones try to bring the tabs forward towards the cable, at the same time, once you do one you will get the idea. The larger flat connecter needs the 2 retainers at the sides to be moved slightly to the sides to release the flat cable. Once this is done it is very obvious how to get the rest out. Seperating the screen from the digitizer is not so easy but it will seperate if you are diligent and careful but firm.

Broken XDA
Hi all,
can anyone help me fix my xda. A couple of weeks ago a bit of the headphone plug broke inside the connector. In an attempt to clear it I opened up the XDA. But now it doesn't power on after I've replaced the cover.
Any pointers would be much appreciated
Before you open your phone you should push the unscrewed top half of the stylus in the hole bottom right of your xda, this disconnects the battery, you need to check the flat shiny connecters on the edge of the board make sure thay havent been pulled out, the power from batter is on 2 contact pads inside rear of case so I dont think that is the problem. You could try using the stylus as mentioned as it may need switching back on.
i jus changed the housing on my xda mini now it starts but nothing is on the screen, i hear the sound and bottons light up... ive check connector is in firmly however ive accidently broken the connector lock, does it need the lock in place for it to work...
if not what else can i try
also my flashing status light isnt fashing although fone is on (screen still not on) i get a white flash now and then on screen... and sometimes weird back lines..?
helo????
anyone here?
It is important that the flat cable has a good contact with the connector. I also broke the lock but placed a thin rigid plastic to keep the flat cable pressed down and then some tape on top to keep it in place.
nah didnt fix it, ah well another door stop..
the ribbon myt b broken....i think u'll need to replace display and da touchscreen too
try looking at ribbon cable carefully !
cant here the other person but they can here me speaker phone works though
on ebay there is a earpiece ribbon cable do u think that would fix it
tried hard reset any ideas

Ribbon cable for the earpiece!? Possibly, but check the manuals on Link removed - no longer valid
I wrote a piece a while back for the TyTn (not the same phone I know, but similar). Have a read here:

Now that front speaker directly contacts the m/board and the spring contacts can bend a little. Easy to fix if you are happy to dismantle.
Mike
thanks
the phone was closed when it fell so not sure on if it is the ribbion cable. also r u sure that the speaker is atached using the spring contacts, because i have the tools and the abiltity to take it apart just dont want to void my waranty if i still have on i have had it for more than 2 years.

I agree, if you have a warranty then use it.
If not, then I am puzzled about this earpiece ribbon cable. There are ribbon cables of course but not to my knowledge one for the earpiece. Can you post a link to the item on ebay?

i believe my phone is out of warranty but i might be able to reason with the people at the store. but if it is just reseating the contacts that is not hard fro me to do myself

i found this i think it is the cable listed on page 17. but as rthis is rather expensive i would rather be sure before i purchase

Agh I see what they're referring to now. The flex cable connecting the top daughter board. No - I do not believe it's the flex cable because that would likely mean the top buttons would not work either. Even if it is, the cable, it would just be a matter of re-seating it's push on connector.
In the picture the speaker is the darker object on the left side.
It looks an almost identical setup to the TyTn link I gave above.
Unfortunately it's a fairly major strip down, not just a case of popping off the back casing. The TyTn Service Manual would be helpful. Very occassionally the earpiece speaker is broken (rare - it's normally just the spring contacts), but there is a Motorola equivalent that will fit if you needed one. (The OEM speaker is not easy to source).

thank you both of my upper buttons works so im gusing it it not the borad. do you think that it is that much of a tear down because i have taken apart many apaches xv/ppc6700's and it was not that much work. also to reseat the contacts i just push on the speaker.

If you have some experience dismantling then it should be ok. The flex cable between the two halves of the phone may have some sticky tape holding the connector in place - that is a little bit fiddly, but not difficult.
To make the speaker make better contact with the board, you need to bend out the gold colored contacts just a little. (When the phone gets a knock / fall it can bend the spring contacts in and so it no longer makes contact with the board) The pics on here for the FRONT speaker show the contacts I'm speaking about. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...27&postcount=5

ok so the speaker is just sitting on the board or is it held done by anything.

It is between the casing and the board. Normally the springy contacts make this a firm contact. After a knock the contacts get a little bent and it then rattles about and does not press on the board.
It is NOT soldered on, just pressed against the board (normally)

Hi Guys,
so I noticed over time that a couple keys weren't working on my dream's keyboard sometimes, and it became progressively worse up to the point where said keys stopped working altogether. The Affected keys are: 1, 2, W, S, Z, Left ALT, Volume Up. If you have a look at your keyboard, you will notice they are in a line almost, which led me to think there was a problem on the Keyboard PCB, or it's ribbon connector to the Motherboard.
SO...I bought one of these Ebay PCB replacements: http://cgi.ebay.com/T-MOBILE-G1-HTC-DREAM-KEYBOARD-MEMBRANE-KEYPAD-PCB-FIX-/120690721519?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item1c19ba42ef and just fitted today but, and to my disappointment and dismay, the exact same keys still do not work
I have cleaned the internals using compressed air quite thoroughly and still not winning.
Any ideas as to what the real problem is here? Maybe its the motherboard itself?
THANKS!
I have a problem with my right alt and . Key as well, hope we can solve this

It is not particularly clear what that item is. Is it a complete keyboard? PCB? Just the rubber membrane?
The key is to CLEAN the thing. 99.9% of keyboard problems are because there is dirt somewhere. Rubbing alcohol and a mild abrasive (like a pink rubber pencil eraser) are very useful for cleaning.
Its everything you see in the picture, keyboard pcb (which has the actual buttons which are pressed when you press the plastic button above, and the volume buttons), with ribbon cables, metal part that sits behind the keyboard - (it is not a replacement for the buttons on the rubber strip which overlays the keyboards hardware)
I stripped the phone completely and replaced the entire keyboard pcb, and still the same issue... i don't understand how cleaning would have made a difference on a brand new item... where else do you recommend i clean?
I have to replace my broken touch screen. I found two good links on how to do so here and here.
Everything works fine. However, I have one small rubber part with a hole left. See attached photograph. I don't know where it comes from. Does anyone recognise? It could fit on the light sensor, but both links above do not show it.
Any clues?
I am not sure. First thing I thought about was the rubber on the microphone hole at the bottom of the telephone. When I scratch with my nail over the microphone hole, I feel that there is soft rubber inside the hole. Hope this helps .

no, it doesn't. that part is smaller and still there. thx anyway. I will leave it out and hope it won't effect the behaviour of the phone.
Solved!
Solved it using an Aria thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861697
it is the cover for the proximity sensor.
