Hello, I have a G4 wiza200, which had a broken USB port. I bought a replacement female jack and replaced the faulty one. Everything seems to be ok, there appear to be no short circuits and the Wizard will charge when connected either to the charger or cradled. The problem is that it's not discovered from the PC and it only charges when connected. I have no way to flash the rom or unlock the SIM lock.
Anyone any ides what the problem may be or of a possible solution?
Thanks
Edit: I forgot to mention that I don't have the original cable and I'm using the one I got with my N95 but I guess that's probably irrelevant as it is just a USB --> Mini USB cable.
Check if all the connectors are soldered properly ,charging doesn't confirm that it'll establish connectivity also, maybe the connectors for connectivity is not having a proper connection. There are perhaps five connectors, check with volt meter to confirm connection or get the phone in bootloaders (multicolor screen) connect to pc via usb cable and check if small usb appears in the bootloaders,if it appears it'll confirm establishing connectivity and you can flash a rom,but if it doesn't show it means there's a connection problem, either with the mini usb port or the usb cable.
Cheers!
Thanks for the reply. I have managed to SIM unlock it by sending the enableRapi.cab to the phone and installing it and using lokiwiz over bluetooth. I will go get another USB jack tomorrow and replace it again. Hopefully the problem is there and not one of the tiny ICs.
Believe it or not, it was the cable. I used the cable of a GPS device and it worked. The wizard has now officially returned from the dead
Yeah, I believe the nokia mini usb is a four prong, and ours is a five prong.
Glad to see you got it all fixed up
Now on to flashing some roms.......
enjoy
Thanks mate, I already have. Meanwhile I have discovered that G4s have their own RUU. I'm now running TNT's touchflo version of WM6.1, I have flashed the radio and the splash screens.

Hi,
I have a strange active sync problem on my charmer. I bought the charmer bricked, he stucked in boot screen. In bootloader mode I can establish an usb connection and can flash any new charmer firmware.
Unfortunately the Charmer does not establish an usb connection in normal mode. I have tried AKU 2.0, 3.3 in several languages without any effect and tested on 4 different pc's. The only way to make an usb connection is in bootloader mode. This ist *not* an active sync problem, because the physical usb connection does not work.
Also my charmer is not able to activate bluetooth; in any firmware and with any stack. Every time after some seconds I get a "hardware error".
Are this known problems an is there a way to fix this problems? I searched the whole forum but did not find a similar problem.
Regards
Andreas
Solution
Hi again,
for those who may get the same problem, here the solution:
1) Bluetooth
When disassembling the charmer, you will see two plugs on the mainboard: one for the display and one for the button-pad. When reassembling, the small ribbon cable from the keypad will be pressed against the frame between front and back cover. Thereby the plug will be pushed up a little bit and does not fit correct. Charmer works well, only Bluetooth will not work. Tried several times and every time the same problem.
Solution: I glued a small isolating washer on top of the plug. When assembling the frame, the metal shield in the frame presses the plug correctly into the socket.
2) USB problem
I had an USB-cable, working well with an external 2,5" HDD, but did not work with my charmer. Yesterday I got another USB cable, and USB connection worked fine. I dont't know why (with first cable) USB connection works in bootloader mode, but not in normal mode, but with the other cable the Charmer works in both modes. Seems as if there are several wirings on USB-to-mini-USB cables.
Maybe my experience will help someone in the future...
Regards
Andreas
I have used several WM phones before this, the two last were Atom and Atom Life. But this phone does not want to play ball with the USB extension cables I've been using all the time. First: No, the cables are all right: I can still sync my Atom Life without any problems. And I have used the original USB cable for the HD that comes with the box at the end (even though I've heard that syncing works just as well with a regular mini USB).
But neither a 3 m long extension cable (which is well below the 5 m USB limit) nor plugging it into a USB hub helps. Sometimes I can get a bit further with unticking the "advanced network" part of the USB to PC connection. But not allways. Has anybody here found a solution to that or even had the same problem?
Mine works fine on a Belkin 5 metre extension cable.
I can only sync with the cable that came with the phone. Other mini USB cables (ones that fit but are a different shape) only charge.

r u serious?! damn..!!! i've never tried it with the HD. my touch pro used to work perfectly with non-factory mini usb cable...
This happened to my HD.
Phone call to orange later and they insisted on replacing it under insurance.
All they wanted to check was whether the HD and PC would sync. I told them no and the response from the script that they have to work through, was that the phone is marked as "broke" and needs replacing.
In my case I suspect that the USB port may have been damaged when the car charger cable was pulled out accidently in the car with some force. Seems that they are a little delicate, especially with none HTC cables (i.e. without the odd shaped plug with only one corner truncated). I have read that non HTC ones fit a little less snug and can put stress on the board inside the phone when plugging / unplugging.

You hit that on the money. I see it as a design flaw as well as a scheme to get people to buy HTC-specific accessories. But you are right, generic cables with the different connector do fit loosely and can cause issues after time if you are not gentle with it. Also, the USB connector itself on the device and internally on the solder points is poorly designed. This doesn't help.
I can sync with any cable, but it seems to be to problems:
1. If the extension is too long, it will fail.
2. If it's run by more than one USB hub it will fail. The first hub is a Toshiba docking station with a one meter cable from the laptop. The second is a D-Link powered USB hub. No matter what cable I use then it won't sync. With the cable connected to the Toshiba docking I can sync both with a regular mini USB and the original cable. Strange thing is that it only works on one of the two the front USB connections and not on one of the four at the rear! Then again Windows isn't supposed to be logical, I guess...
Normal miniusb cable works perfectly for either charging and syncing.
I even had a 7m usb cable (5m and a 2m usb extending cable), worked perfectly for either charging and syncing (I need my phone to be next to my bed, and my PC is like a few meters away from my bed).
Seriously don't know how your HD refuses to work with a cable other than the stock HD USB cable.
Hi,
are you using a custom ROM?
i used all sorts of cables, whatever happens to be lying around, infact i never use the stock one, as this is plugged it at a very inaccesable wall socket for mains charging!
generally my cables go through a hub, and then a 1m extension.
the reason i ask about the ROM is that i have flashed loads of different ROMS, and all worked fine, except one ROM (think it was topix 2.6), where it would only connect for a brief moment before auto-disconnecting. i suspect it was a 'bad flash' as they say, and so if you are using a custom ROM would suggest a re-flash. if not, you could consider a hard reset, or trying a different ROM (perhaps if it the stock ROM it has a 'bad flash' at the factory)
Tom
This thread has been hijacked (I never asked about regular mini USB versus the proprietary HTC version), but if you're asking me, I'm using the latest official HTC version (Norwegian).
mine is not picky at all...
Thank god, I checked with a mini usb that came with my external HDD and it worked perfectly...
I tried 3 other cables and none of them work apart from to charge.
I'll see if it's an issue with using my hub.

Have you tried updating usb drivers?

No i'll try that when I get home.
Thanks
I have this issue with a specific cable on vista64, the phone only charges, but if I connect it to a Ubuntu box, I can sync, share network etc.
I think M$ is the issue in that case.
Hi,
Is anyone aware of issues with USB connections to this phone?
It is intermitent when using USB earphones or removing to use handset for calls.
Summary of problems:
USB earphones works
USB don't work
Handset only works on speaker, cannot change
USB connection to PC does not work
There is no consistency to the error.
Thanks in advance.
Should be in general, as this is not a development issue.
Checked the pins on your phone? All correct and not bent?
Pins all fine, I would say they look in order.
Cheers,
(had a lot of trouble signing up to the site to begin with as it hung on confirmation and then trouble posting a thread. Seems to be Ok today though. No more developer threads from me)
1-Try another cable
2-Try another computer
3-Change options in Settings>Connections> usb to pc
4-Change the phone
He has tried his usb cable and his headphones usb converter. Whilst its unlikely both are broken, it is a possibility I over looked. I = Fail
May also be worth giving it a quick go over with compressed air, make sure no dust etc has got in which possibly may also be causing the issue, but I guess you would have noticed that when you checked the pins.
Hey everyone, I recently got hold of a HP iPAQ 614c from a friend, and was playing with it. I've had it about a week and so far it's been a lot of fun to play with. Downloaded and used the WM6.1 Manila and then WM6.5 Manila (v0.5) from this forum, and all was working super.
Now a day or so ago, I noticed my phone just totally stopped recognising the USB cable connected to it, and I need some advice as to what to do. It's not detecting the USB either in A/C charge mode, or when connected to my laptop, the laptop isn't detecting it as a device at all.
There is nothing wrong with either battery (a normal and a high capacity, both were working and charging fine before).
I've tried replacing, downgrading and re-upgrading the ROMs, and nothing seems to be working. I've also tried twiddling the cable connection to see if I can get it to respond (even temporarily, which would suggest a lose or damaged connection).
Luckily with the high capacity battery, I got about a week to fix it (if it's fixable) so long as I keep the wi-fi disabled.
Now what I want to know from you guys is if you think it's one of the following scenarios:
1. The USB interface on the phone is damaged (either from being knocked or dropped).
2. The cable has become damaged.
3. I've fudged something inside by using the unofficial ROMs.
And what, if anything I can do about it.
Much appreciated any help.
are you using the original charger?
HP614c recognizes the original charger and informs you about charging in other cases you need to turn on USB charging in system
if you have no response from USB it may be a damaged usb interface eg. the connector or charging IC or USB interface IC.
did you try on other PC/USB port or/and other cable
also check in device manager of PC for any suspicious looking USB devices
Hello everyone, this is my first post and it´s about my Defy, which, for some reason, the USB port does not work to access the phone and/or the SD Card.
1: I did a soft and hard reset and the problem persists.
2: The phone does not show up on the device manager under Windows so not even an error message saying "Device not recognized" or something. Also, it won´t show up in Ubuntu.
3. The "Connect your charger" message shows up all the time.
4. No notification in the phone when plugged to the PC .
5. Even though I can´t access the phone from the PC, I still can´t charge it through the USB port.
6. I can connect/access the phone and SD Card using Wi-Fi (Motorola Phone Portal) but not USB. I can see "Plug in USB to launch" in Phone Portal but cannot press the button, only the one referring to Wi-Fi.
PS: This is my second Defy, the first one got the same problem so I got a new one... sadly, the it happened again.
PS2: I wonder if a USB 3.0 port has to do with anything? It´s the only thing that I noticed before the USB stopped working.
Any help or hint is greatly appreciated.
well, i don't think it's an usb3 problem ...
to be sure you could try to connect your phone with an older usb2 port computer ...
is the phone charging on wall charger and usb-cable ???
if not, it really sounds like a hardware failure ... then i would send it to customer service and tell them that there is the same problem again .. maybe the just repaired something and it's faulty again ... be sure, that they are changing the faulty things ...
if your phone is charging on wall charger, it could be that it is an problem with your pc ... try another one ...

1. I mentioned the USB 3.0 port because it was the only common thing just before the usb conection stopped working.
2. The phone charges normally using the wall charger or usb (2.0, 3.0) cable through the PC.
3. It does not matter what PC is connected to or the OS (Ubuntu, Win7)/
Thanks for the response!
It is possible to brick it. Wtih some phone's it seems to be a common error for usb ports to be blown.
Could also be the cable... My cable that came with the defy was already snatched after a few months. My screen started going on and of when I was charging it.

Is there a way to check for faulty hardware-related issues?
just test different cables, computers or even mobiles ... then you will see, what is faulty

What I meant was some software that check or even some kind of physical device.
Anyway, I know it´s not the cable or PC faulty but the phone itself. But I want to confirm if it´s software or hardware related and if there´s a fix.
Thanks!
Try using USB with logcat open. You might see something in the log that will tell you what's happening
