I am planning on travelling through different time zones this summer. I thought my phone had a "use network time" box under settings but it does not.
is there a registry setting for that or a simple application to correct the clock and to do so without screwing up my PIM appointments?
there is an registry key that enables a Tab in the Phone settings called "Time Zones".
on my Rom(Slim edition 6.1) it is the key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting]
"ShowNITZPage"=dword:00000001.
it can also be "ShowTimeZonePage" instedd of "ShowNITZPage".
if you that go to the tab and check this setting it changes you clock automaticly when youre in an other timezone.
i have the timezones tab but not the option to use network time...
I am most definetly no expert here, but on my Treo 700WX, I do remember the option for enabling network time, but it was in the original startup when you first turn on the device, or after a hard-reset. I would think as long as you remember it being enabled, then you should be OK.
Or you could just use an app that allows more than one clock on your Today screen, like SPB Time (if you don't want to purchase, just use the trial period on your trip)!!!
Hope that helps some!!

I am using an Atom which apparently has a bug that it loses its time setting when you swap batteries and do not have any of those registry settings. hoped there was an application or reg hack for me.

I have this selected but still have to manually select a time zone. Few times I traveled from Pacific US to Eastern US, phone (HTC Touch, on Sprint) did not change the time until I picked the correct zone.

Hi guys,
are we talking about Windows Mobile 5 or 6 here? I also tried both names and did soft reset but page is not shown.
My phone is LG KS20 (Windows Mobile 6).
Wow, I just tested changing the key on my phone (02 XDA II - CShekhar 6.1) and it worked perfectly, even after a soft reset. Wish I knew about this years ago. A++++ would read again.

I need some help in figuring out some stuff here. Can anyone help me please. I have tried almost all options but didnt get it. Looks like I need to tweak a thing or two somewhere
1. How can I set my Qtek to sync date and time with the network's date time it is connected too. I know in other phones we have a option to overwrite phone's Date Time by network's date and time.
2. I am latched to cingular here. How do we enable cell info in this phone. ie. most of the towers you are connected to have an area name, so your phone flashes the area location you are in. Is there a way to set this option in this phone.
3. I know this is a very silly one, but I am not able to get the time in normal 12hr format. God, its taking me a long time to figure this out and still trying.
Can anyone share some knowledge on this

For mine I have it set to English (United States) then in the Time field I have the following setup:

"Time Seperator" should be ":"
"AM symbol" should be "AM"
"PM Symbol" should be "PM"

Well, one of the nice things with sync'ing to the network is that you pay no GPRS costs. Mind you, I have yet to find use for it with my PocketPC. Its internal clock is good enough to not go wildly off
I also read somewhere that it's supposed to sync with the desktop when hooking it up through activesync, but can't say I've noticed any such thing.
I have searched and searched and still cannot figure out where & what to edit in the WM5 registry on my Cingular 8125 to allow me to manually select networks and edit the preferred networks list.
These items are blocked out on Cingular phones. I'm sure this can be brought back with registry hacks, but I've yet to find them
For those of us who do not want to update the complete ROM to an unsupported and/or problematic build - please help!!
The problem is that the near-by ATT tower gives me a full signal on my MPX200, the Cingular tower gives me 0 to 1 bar!
My new 8125 will only let me access the Cingular tower (with only 0 to 1 bar!) I need to be able to hop on the ATT tower manually, and set it as my preferred network.
Thanks for any help in advance. I've spent hours upon hours reading here, so I know you guys know your stuff! Come on, Come on...
did you load the extended rom on your 8125?
if not, there is an "enable eons" cab file that you may want to run. it won't allow manual network selection, but it should log you on to whatever tower is strongest...
how can i do that on my Tmobile MDA?
I'm also having a problem with reception issues, I called Cing and the tech support told me that my 8125 was setup to be ATT preferred even though my strongest and closest tower was Cing.
The lady said she switched me to Cing preferred and that I should notice a change in ~24 hrs, I guess I'll find out in another 13 hrs.

Where is the extended rom? Is that all the Cingular stuff that installed on the first boot? If so, then yes, it's loaded.
Where can in find the enable eons cab you're talking about?
EDIT: I found what you are talking about, in FTP. I need to find detailed descriptions of these before I install them. Might be a work around, but still not exactly what we all need to get our WM5 back to normal. Thanks though.
I really wish someone could find the reg edits needed to bring these options back!
Anyone???

I'm not so sure that CAB file is our friend. I'm running the latest AKU 2.2 ROM (2.25) without any Cingular files installed and man do I get much better reception. Used to be that I'd drop calls twice (at least between office & home) but not a problem since I stopped loading those Cing CABs!

So, do you have the options to set up your preferred networks? And manually choose which network to connect to?
Start > Settings > Phone > Options > Network tab
???
And how stable is that 2.25 ROM? Which product exactly was it meant for?
Thanks a bunch
Well I just upgraded to Cingular_RUU_WIZARD_217_AKU22_Basic.exe and still have the same problem!
I went ahead and let the customizations install. It's gotta be one of those cabs that removing the manual network selection and preferred networks options!
This sucks because I want everything EXCEPT the one that's causing this. If I stop the customization process by soft-resetting right before it starts, is there a way to install the cabs one at a time??? Where are they actually stored on the device, I cant seem to find them.
Thanks in advance...
Ok, for an update...
I re-flashed to Cingular_RUU_WIZARD_217_AKU22_Basic.exe and this time I did not let the customizations run. I did a soft-reset at the 3sec prompt.
Phone booted up, everything looks OEM, nothing Cingular at all. However... I STILL DO NOT have the options I'm looking for in Start > Settings > Phone > Network tab
There is supposed to be an option in WM5 to change between manual and automatic network selection, and a preferred networks list editor...
This is ridiculous! Is there maybe a block built into the SIM? How can I edit the SIM then? I NEED to remove this crap that Cingular's built in. Not letting us select networks and manage our preferred list is BS!
I really cannot believe there is no fix/hack out here yet for this... Help some one please!!
What SIM card do you have?
The solution may be worked around in the software but all Cingular 64k SIMS block setting preferred networks.
Cingular lately has been working to put a stop to excessive off network useage...hence the EONS file but that still is set by the SIM to save the preference.
Im sure someone with skills can write an app to load at startup that can do the same functions but at stock it's not possible.
I just confirmed that!! Damn SIM cards.
I was able to dig out my old ATT sim card and ALL the settings I was looking for were there!
Some one PLEASE come up with a way to either edit Cingular SIMs not to do this, or block them from doing it... please!
Check your PM, may be able to help you a bit
Thanks Decepticon, a possible work around. However, I really would like to put everyone to the test and fix this by blocking Cingulars SIM or registry entries from disabling network selection and preferred networks.
Here is an update every one:
Developers, listen up, shine for us on this one please
HKLM\Security\Phone\
L: 0
ManualDisable: 1
PreferredDisable: 1
I changed the two 1's to 0's and bam! I have the settings under Start > Settings > Phone > Network tab
I can view all networks, set to manual, look at preferred list, etc etc
BUT... when clicking OK, get an error "Unable to save settings on network, try again". So no settings stick
Also, after a softboot (properly waiting for registry to save) the above settings go back to 1's.
This has got to be something in the SIM, a program in Startup, or a registry setting that keeps changing these settings back upon boot. Because they are not programmed out, just blocked at boot.
Here is what I have listed in Startup:
CapNotify
custTDYTSK
Init_Tray
Magic_Button
poutlook
sddaemon
WiFiInit
Any of them suspicious?
Let's bang this out folks...
Can someone attempt to view Cingulars SIM contents and block whatever changes these registry values?
Anyhow, just some more info for ya'll

That's when it attempts to save the preferences to the SIM.
Unfortunately editing the registry wont be able to get this accompolished but I do hope someone can write a program that saves the preferences on the phone and use it to override the SIM upon tower selection.
Settings don't stay with a non-Cingular SIM after reboot
I used a foreign SIM on my Cingular 8125 and after registry was changed and soft reset it defaulted to origninal Cingular settings. Truley SAD! Any other ideas about registies that could make the Manual Network selection become available for use permanently? Got to be something else. How about posting the registy values from other HTC's (non-Cingular) or Cingular with that activated feature to perceive the difference.
You keep referring to:
Start > Settings > Phone > etc.
On my 8125, when I go to Start > Settings the only tabs I have to choose from are Personal, System, and Connections. Where is this Phone tab you keep mentioning?
BTW, I am running the Dopod 2.21 WWE rom on my Cingular 8125. I do have manual network selection available in the Phone control panel settings.

It's not a tab. It's an icon in there. Click on it to open the phone settings. Then go to the "Network" tab at the bottom. You'll see a screen that just tells you what Network it's on, and one button called "Find Network".
Cingular's SIM card blocks the other buttons that let you manually select which networks to connect to, and lets you save your preferred network list.

So do you have those options WITH a Cingular SIM card in the phone?? Or are you using a different carriers SIM???
Common CONFUSION about SIM and FIRMWARE
Folks, the manual selection of the network is simply blocked in certain versions of ROM. Cingular in particular and on purpose has started doing that especially in the late versions of so-called HTC/Cingular ROM editions. Everything is about money now. So depending on SIM card (straight 64K or 3g 64k) your phone has more or less tendency to stick to this preferred CINGULAR network. However your ability to choose network manually solely depends on the ROM of your PDA/phone. I personally like Dopod 838 Rom 2.21 etc which works a whole lot better in all aspects. Trust my experience. AND you DO HAVE this ABILITY to manully select a provider. One more thing! Using a simple 64k SIM card on CINGULAR ROMS gives you FAR BETTER RECEPTION AND CLARITY than on 3g SIM card.
My phone is set up to use the HTC location service for time and weather. I live in Grand Rapids, MI and work 20 miles away in Rockford. Both in the Eastern time zone. For some reason, my phone changes over to Central time when I am in Rockford. I can only assume the service thinks I"m in Rockford, IL? Anyone encountered something similar?
Location service works with AGPS, when GPS is not available.
Have you checked after fixing GPS?
Also, it may be the problem with your service provider.
Try to change another provider sim & verify.
Thanks. I'll give it a try on Monday.
Got a similar problem myself...I got woken up an hour early this morning as the clock decided that my location (which is in the UK) should use the same time zone settings as Paris and Madrid, who aren't using GMT, and are therefore 1 hour out of sync with me I've hunted high and low but can't seem to find a daylight savings mode anywhere....anyone know where it is?
You could switch off the "Automatic Timezone Change":
1) Go into "Settings" > "Menu" "All Settings" > "Personal" > "Phone".
2) Tap "GSM/UMTS Services" > "Time Synchronization" > "Get Settings".
3) Un-select "Automatic change time zone and clock".
4) Tap "OK" > "OK" > "OK".
This setting is independent of the "Location" settings.
Good luck!
Ta muchly for that buddy....turns out my 3) was already unticked but putting a tick back in there seems to have done the trick as the local time settings now shows [city] GMT London,Dublin which is what it should have been saying last night instead of Paris,Madrid...
I unticked mine. Not as convenient b/c I travel a lot but it's probably the easiest solution at this point.
Thanks...

Good work.... Fixed my frustrating daylight saving time zone issues in Australia (keeps defaulting to Sydney, but I live in Brisbane which is 1 hr behind Sydney atm)
i live in Gujar khan a small tiny town near Islamabad pakistan ......
by using location service my location is correctly identified
i believe location service uses Google maps for location .......
I had the same problem, I live in a small city in NJ which is not listed in the system, there is another city with the same name in Colorado which is listed, and even though it recognizes where I live it gives me mountain time which is 2 hours earlier.
I used weather city editor, added my city, added it to TF3d as a second city and use it as visiting so I have my correct city, time and weather.
Sometimes it goes back to the original one but i can change it right from the main screen.
I hope this help.
I'll second (or third) the issue. I live in a suburb of Lancaster PA (USA), 5 miles outside of the city. The locator service can pick up every suburb cleanly (almost...see below). But if I go into the city, BOOM, my clock is 3 hrs behind. I believe it thinks I'm in Lancaster, CA. But as soon as I'm home or outside the city, it changes back to correct location and time.
But the other issue I have is with my time zone. I am in GMT-5 (when the locator has it right). But my area follows DST, so I should be GMT-5 Eastern US. Instead it shows GMT-5 Indiana; the only area on the East Coast that does not follow DST. Since I've had the HD2 since late Nov, I'm wondering what will happen in March when we hit DST. I know MS fixed the DST problem 3 yrs ago, so is the time zone identification due to the locator service or MS? Or is it possible that because I've got the best phone in the US, even though it's not supposed to be here, that HTC will address this problem with future ROM upgrades or Win7Mo?

Where are these menus on the HD2 (Uk version 1.48 ROM)? The Settings tab doesn't have an "All Settings", "Personal" or "Phone" options that I can see anywhere.
(Having the same problem in Brisbane - it even keeps updating my location with all the location stuff turned off)
OK. Found it. On a HD2 it's actually at:
Home -> Settings (tab) -> Wireless Controls -> Phone (change phone settings) -> Menu -> Network selection -> GSM/UMTS Services tab -> Time Synchronization
I've got a really odd one. My clock is correct when I stay in HTC Sense. When I hit the windows key and go into programs or settings, when I get back to the home page my time shows 1 hour 2 minutes earlier than current time. It immediately corrects itself but this driving me nuts.
Also, why can't weather connect to data when trying to update my location?

That is normal operation for the clock. The clock isn't wrong and then being set. It's just an animation when you visit the home screen. There are ways to stop, google for it. I think it's a registry hack.

Hi,
the same problem on mine but me had me in India!
I was getting false 3g & HSDPA signals.
I contacted T-Mobile who confirmed that my area was being upgraded from 2g.
He then suggested that I change my phone band to GSM only, I had a similar problem with my MDA pro a few years ago.
Anyhow seems to have solved that problem, hope that helps.
By the by phone / menu / options / band / network type - choose gsm.
it hasn't solved the mystery of my disappearing contacts (sim & phone) but I guess that is for another forum!!
ok I got the same problem today. My phone changed the timezone to Paris instead of showing the correct one which was London. What I did that fixed the problem was:
Uncheck the automatically checkbox in phone settings (mentioned earlier), click ok and go back to the home screen and update the weather. then go back to the checkbox and check it again. After you update the weather again you should have the correct timezone...

no cab needed, the answer is on the HTC site:
How do I disable my 3G/GPRS Data Connection?
Follow the steps below to ensure that your phone will never connect to a GPRS/3G Data Connection.
1. Go to Start > Settings > Menu > All Settings > Connections > Connections
2. Tap Add a new modem connection > then under Select a modem, select Celluar Line (GPRS) > Name the Connection "Offline" >Tap Next.
3. In the Access point name text box input "Offline" and tap Next.
4. On the next page tap Finish.
5. On the second Connections Menu, tap Manage existing connections and select "Offline" then click OK.
Re-enable the data connection if you want to connect to the internet via 3g/Edge.
1. From the home screen, slide to the Settings tab, Wireless Controls > Data Connection.
2. Select your Country and Operator
3. Tap OK.
4. On the subsequent screen, tap Yes.
The phone will automatically configure itself with the appropriate settings.
Note: When disabling the connection in this way, your phone may report errors when trying to connect to "Offline." The error is caused by the phone being unable to connect to a data source due to the settings, and is normal.

I've disabled my data connection using the HTC mehtod but now when I've connected to wifi, I keep on getting an error message say page cannot be displayed and there is a problem with my connection?
Can someone please tell me if I've done something wrong? and if this is suppose to happen?
Thanks,
I'm looking to use the data connection only when I particularly tell the phone to do something that requires internet access.
That's because my provider rounds up to 0.01GBP whenever the connection is used. It's unfortunate, and if you know a PAYG service in the UK that doesn't do this, let me know!
On my last phone I just turned off push e-mail. But I can't see how to do this on the Omnia II. I've looked in all the menus I can think of.

Have you gone to Tool>Options in Email, then selected your account? In the next page you select "Send/Receive Schedule" and change the "Automatic Send/Receive" setting to <Manually>
That may solve your problem.
could also try
Start > Activesync > menu > schedule > sync during change the times to ever x minutes insted of as items arrive
