Please help! I can´t believe this... - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo General

Dear friends, I have my Advantage for three days with me (I am very happy with it), but today I wanted to install the mini sd card, and for my surprise, the card adaptor does not fit into the Advantage slot!!!
The adaptor is Sandisk brand...I'm really desperate. Anybody with similar problem? Please, I really appreciate your help....

Are you sure you have it in the right way? Label side down dude...

Yes, label side down, golden contacts up...I'm really shocked how can HTC sell a product with this MAJOR flaw!...Tell me my friend, you can put the card on slot easily or you have to do some force, or special positioning etc..Just to figure it out..

mine just glides in easy. i have a transflash (microsd)card with a minisd adapter. are you sure its a mini sd

Sometimes it takes a second to find the right angle but it slides it with no almost no force at all.

I can't believe that this is true too. Mine slides in and out easily without problem. If it does not fit, it is probably a fake card, or you have not inserted it the right way.

this may seem like a stupid question but theres not a card or blank one in there already is there?
what do you mean by card adaptor? the minisd doesnt need an adaptor to fit in the athena

ROTFLMAO LOL LOL LOL
Yeah right, like HTC got the mini SD slot wrong, by accident. EITHER
1) YOU are doing it wrong
or
2) YOUR card is a cheap fake and the wrong proportions !
there is not really any scope for anything other than the above ! either way the problem is with you not with your phone.

Pics !
Please : First , came down !...take it easy.
Second : Please take some pictures , post and there ...all cann see your trouble .
When you,re say...mini SD adaptor , what you try to say ? .
Advantage have a mini SD slot , im like much others ...use a Micro SD with mini SD adaptor. It,s true that in a forst time is not easy find the righ position...but . PLEASE dont force ..maybe you can broke something.
Please..Take some pictures and post again.
All Have solution...some hard...or some easy...but all have !
Waiting your pictures.
FranCoke.

i seriously doubt if htc actually shipped out a product that has a faulty card slot. i'm sorry but i agree with the others. aside from this, you did say:
"Yes, label side down, golden contacts up.."
do you mean that when inserting the card the words "mini sd" or whatever's on the label is on the underside? and that the copper contacts are facing upwards? if yes, then you're inserting the card wrong. the copper leads are supposed to be on the bottom while the label is facing up.
or unless you bought one of those cards used for ericsson phones...
i use both mini sd and microsd with mini adaptor on my unit...and i've never had this issue before

Do Sandisk make a Micro SD to Mini SD adapter? - all I have got are Micro SD to full size SD adaptors and these most certainly will not fit the Athena - Mike

Yes, Sandisk does make a micro to mini adapter (I have one).

I had a similar problem and went for a "Mini" SD not a "Micro Mini" or an adapter type. Just make sure you have a "Mini" card and not a Micro with an adapter...TJ

Thank you guys for your replies. Well, I'm not insane ..
Thanks TrekkerJmm comment, who has the same problem, at least I have a hope, so I should get a minisd and try, seems the adaptor (microsd to minisd) is causing the problem. I took the pictures, sorry my camera stinks.
Also, when I was considering to buy the Advantage, I have read about a folk who had to return his unit due the same problem (I can't find the post right now, can't remember what forum was it)...
I really can't understand why HTC don't just include a regular sd slot...anyway, I hope I can find a solution...

I read about it too. He had to send his athena back for repairs.

Maybe the one the fellow sent back for repair was replaced with a refurb and the returned one has now made it back to the top of the replacement pool!
Brad

youre trying to put a real sd card into a mini sd slot.
[edit] sorry for the previous harshness[/edit]

I'm digging a hole and put my head on it...the adapter I'm using is for minisd to full sd....I AM A FOOOOLLLLLL
Gulpppp
Thanks....(back to my hole)

Don't feel bad..as long as you got it working that's all that matters.. ...TJ

AARRGGHHH!! I've just lost my SD from my Exec

I've only had the Exec for a week and I've had to secure the SD card a few times where it's been accidentally been clicked out. I've just tried to save a doc and noticed that it's missing!
What a crud design. Surely there should be a cover over the memory card slot?
I do love my Exec, but right now I could launch it out the window!!!
Sorry, just had to vent!
BTW, great forum. Loads of useful info for a new user.
Tis a bad design.
I suggest a little 3M ghost cellotape over the slot. Keeps it in, dust out, and doesn't look to cr*p (it's transparent)

Hey Vijay,
I think you're right. I'll do that, just as soon as I get my new card. At least I've got a good excuse to get a 2gb card now.

Guys, this might be a problem in need of a good solution either way. Just looked into my slot (!) and there's a lot of dust. Although the slot looks enclosed internally, we had big problems with SPV phones getting dusty through open slots in the old days...
V
I've absolutely no problems with my Qtek 9000, the SD-card is firmly fitted within the device.
When I want to remove it I have to press firmly and push it back at least 1,5 mm so I'm not afraid of losing it.
Maybe it is a problem with your device?

Or maybe this.
Just for my 1gb card protection and answering the phone like the xda2 ( without opening it).
Hye, don't get me wrong, I don't use this idea myself, because I switch SD and wireless (between my magician and universal).
But I think generally, a small rubber flap over the SD flap would have been a good design. I think the Orange models have this feature.
V
This happend to me days after I got mine. The problem is that the SD slot is on the bottom. You put it in a pocket that has something in it, coins keys postage stamps , and it depresses the SD card. You pull it out your pocket not realizing and the SD card falls out.

MicroSD card slot

Hi
I took out the dummy SD card in the slot by the usual methods of gently pushing and it pops out, I then inserted (the correct way round) my new 2Gb card which sounded to click in place correctly although it is now stuck and doesnt pop out the same way the dummy one did (I did not apply any hard pressure). I presume this isnt how its supposed to work and the mechanism has faulted, has anyone else had this problem?

did you insert the microSD with contacts upside?
I had a similar problem when I first inserted a brand new A-Data 2GB MicroSD. But I've managed to take it back finally, gently pushing and popping it in and out. Then I've found superfluous plastic on the card, removed it, and since then there are no problems. So don't worry about the slot itself until you're sure it is broken
I am having the same problem. I am sure it is in there correctly, as I can access it. However, I can't get it OUT. HELP!!

If you put it the card in upside down it goes in crooked. If you force it you risk breaking the card.
If you push the card in all the way it clicks gently as it slips in then is retained. If you push the card gently with your fingernail it should go in slightly then pop out.
If you push it in and it goes in by a mm or so but doesn't pop out then something is holding it back. You can try with some needles or safety pins either side to try and ease the card out....
Good Luck. Scary when you've invested so much into these things when they break
HI,
I had / have the same problem with my new mda vario II. If you look under the battery next to the slot is a small white piece of plastic in a runner. If you gently push that outwards towards the edge of the phone the card will eject. Use a pin or a paper clip.
Could some explain where the excess plastic on the card is so i can fix my card.
Also i am using a Sandisk card if that make anydiff.

Dave,
You are a VERY SMART man! I really appreciate that. Mine is a 2gb SanDisk as well. I have a Cingular 8525. I had it in the correct way, and was able to use the card just fine. It bothered me that I could not get it out though. I really appreciate the response! Oh... I removed the made in Tiawan sticker on the back of the card to see if that would help. It did not, but did expose some copper looking stuff like at the end of the card. No big deal
Jeff
Dead SanDisk.
I also had the problem of a stuck 2Gb Sandisk card in a Vario II.
The card was displaying the same problems described in Legolas's card fix thread, (files disappearing or innaccessable) so I was going to check it on my PC.
Unfortunately, in the process of gently persuading it to come out, I appear to have completely killed it! (Unrecognisable in phone, PC or camera.)
I'm going to try painting the contacts on the card with silver paint in case they're not making contact, but I don't fancy digging inside the phone to bend the contacts there.
Any thoughts anyone?
In the meantime I'll wait and see if the 4Gb card is compatible with the Hermes before I order a replacement.
Is this a problem with Sandisk cards, I wonder? Had no problems at all with a 1Gb Kinston card... pop in a new Sandisk 2Gb, and sticks. Didn't shave off any plastic though, just caught hold of the groove on the edge with a fingernail and pulled on it enough to seat it into the proper 'inserted' position.
After inserting it in the slot a few times, it seems to click into place as it should
@dmj1973: Have you updated the Wiki with the info on ejecting a stuck card? Would be useful to have it there, if it isn't already

Excellent solution.
I've got a 2 gb SanDisk in a Vodafone 1605 with no insertion/removal problems.
(hee, in past life got quite adept at dismantling my iPaq 5555 to get stuck adapters out)

Hi guys,
Just a quick update. I had a further look at my card. I also removed the "made in Taiwan" sticker. My card ejects and inserts fine now.
Your right about the "contacts" being exposed, though i suspect this won't matter too much as they are covered again once they are inserted into the phone.
I don't believe this to be a problem only with sandisk cards but i may be wrong.
Dave
it seems that im a lucky dog because i have never got this problem with my softbank device and kingmax 1g tfcard.
anyhow thx the info upstairs
dmj1973 you saved my day!
today my transcent 16gb microsd arrived. i took the (kind of useless) 128mb out of my acer m900, and suddenly i wasnt able to get either of my micro sd's back into the device! it always jammed half way in ... drove me ****ing crazy thinking my new pda already broke :/ wasted the half day beeing mad until i found this thread! i red until "battery" ... then instantly removed the cover/battery etc, and my cards no longer jammed! -can get them in&out gently again thx 2 you!

SD or micro SD on T-Mobile?

I was under the impression that MDA Pros had an SD slot. My phone however, came with a micro SD with what looked like an adapter jammed in the slot. Thinking this wasn't right I requested a new unit from t-mobile, but I've just rejected it as it is exactly the same. Have they changed the spec or something?
The adapter is captive, although it does push in as though it would unlatch, it never actually unlatches. Fairly annoyed if this isn't how everyone elses behaves as I don't use micro cards.
Does everyone else's unit have a normal SD slot? Especially interested in comments from t-mobile owners.

This is how i use micro-SD and mini-SD cards in the Universal.
1. The micro/mini SD cards have an adapter that is usually provided by the vendor.
2. The micro/mini SD card goes into the adapter. The adapter behaves as an SD card in this instance when it is plugged into the Universal's SD card reader. Universal's cannot read mini-SD and micro-SD cards directly so they have to be plugged indirectly using an adapter.
This answers your question
I have a MDA pro t-mobile
right from the slot is a text which says SD
I wonder what that means
The slot is a normal SD
there's a adapter to transform miniSD > SD
If you really requested a new device for this you first haven't read the manual, second didn't look well enough and last maybe harsh but sound a bit stupid 2 me.

Yeah I know it says SD, and it does appear to have an adapter in there, but it will not come out of the device. It is as if they've put in a permanent adapter of some form that is designed to stay jammed in there. Every time I push it in to click it free and release, it refuses to spring out. The replacement unit was exactly the same.
I can of course remove the mini card as it just slides out if I hook my nail into it, but I'm not able to remove the adapter to put a normal SD card in the device.
My device shipped with the micro sd card and jammed adapter already fitted inside the unit, although there is also an SD card blank that was in the box which is why I was certain that my device had a faulty adapter jammed in it. Having seen a 2nd unit with exactly the same issue I'm wondering if it isn't on purpose.
Either that, or I've failed to understand how to get the SD card out, but unless it is different to every other PDA/camera I've owned I would be suprised if that were ther case. If there is some cunning release for it, I can't see it mentioned in the manual anywhere.

I agree with you Viper.
I find this really funny "Yeah I know it says SD, and it does appear to have an adapter in there, but it will not come out of the device." (DHarman).
DHarman hopefully you are not braindead yet but here i will tell you how to take it out. Hopefully you can understand plain simple english. Push the adapter in and it will pop out. Its like many ball pens that have springs. When you push the cap of the ball pen the tip comes out and when you push it again the tip goes back in. It should be working fine. If it still does not come out try using a small screwdriver or a pin to pull it out. It should come out without damaging the device SD card reader. Since your fingers cant go in there you gotta use something smaller like a pin or a screwdriver. Makes sense? ITS LIKE A CLICK BALL PEN!
i hear you, man. it seems everyone else hasn't read your post properly and is telling you (none too kindly at that) to do what you have already tried.
I have no experience of T-Mobile's units, but my O2 one does exactly what you would expect of an SD slot. I seem to remember another post about a T-Mobile unit with your problem about 1 week ago, was it you?
I would definitely take this up with T-Mobile customer services though, if it is intentional it is preventing you from using the SDIO functions and normal SD cards so if they refuse to send you a standard one you should demand a discount. Quote that under UK law it is "not fit for purpose" (because you cannot use it as advertised) and they should back down as you have shown them that you know your rights. Edit: That's the Sale of Goods Act, by the way.
Thanks r3bel. I despair at the rest of you. You fail to read my post that explains that pushing it in does not release the adaptor, and which also failed to release the adaptor on the replacement and then go on to suggest that it's me who's braindead.

Okay now you are being specific. If you push it in and it doesn't come out, then you will have to pull it out. Use a small tweezers or a pin to pull it out. Just like a hook. It should come out easily. It happened with my Orange SPV M5000 too so I am just letting you know how i fixed it. And now it works perfectly, I push it in and it stays and i push it again and it pops out. The first two times i used the SD card adapter never came out and i had to pull it out with tweezers. No damage to device.

Mini-sd slot broke

Today I removed my minisd card and put it back in shortly after, but something went horribly wrong
Somehow I broke the thing that holds the card in position so now it wont stick in.. so I tried to make it stuck in with a paper which works but it doesn't get recognized then, I guess the mechanism which holds the card always turns on a switch thats tells my wizard to start reading the card
Does anyone got any idea to fix it, cause this sux big time (I bought the phone a few months ago for €200), I cant find my receipt but ill try to get a copy of the shop .
Im so pissed right now
Nobody knows, the warranty is overdue
Could I open the phone and maybe fix it myself?
I got the service manual but not the tools, anyone ever seen the inside of the phone, would it even be possible to fix it?

similar problem
Hi there
i had a similar problem - had to buy another htc 8125 and unfortunately it came with a broken slot for the minisd card. At first i thought i wasn't pressing the card enough for the thing to click and hold it. Then i realised it was broken. As far as i could see from the little opening there was a white slider which is pushed down by the wider side of the minisd card. It has a spring behind it and somehow it has to click in down position and hold the card.
i tried to push it down with a very very small screwdriver and understand the way it worked. With my bad luck i pushed a little harder and broke that white slider. It just broke in the middle and one part stayed down and the other was pushed up by the spring. It broke exactly at the place where it was pushed by the memory card. So my card was not jumping anymore out - it just stayed in but was not recognised by the phone.
I didn't know what else to do so i found some instructions on how to open the phone and went for it with the hope to reach the memory card slot an hopefully fix it. HTC has taken good care of the stupid slot. It is soldered to the motherboard and nothing much could be done. There are 4 points that hold it but i didn't go that far to unsolder it (didn't know how many springs and other parts would jump out of it). Anyways - what i noticed was the following:
there are two small "plates" at the bottom of the slot. Wheny ou isnert the card they touch and i think this is what makes the slot active and knowing that there is a card in it. I had some dirt betwen them and that was preventing them from making a contact. After i removed that small piece of dirt and inserted the card it worked like a charm. It stays so tight in there now that i hardly can get it out - which is not that bad because i can always use the usb cable to transfer whatever i want.
I think i still have those manuals for opening the phone, so if you decide to go this far and can't find them i can send you an email.
Hope i was of any help
There's no need to open or disassemble the phone to repair the slot, just apply a thin layer of any adhesive tape around it but make sure you do not cover the connectors and insert the card firmly in the slot.
Cheers !
But well even if I push it in it doesnt get detected(I added a piece of paper to hold it in but it didnt detect it still).
I think ill buy a torx screwdriver and open it.
I'll still advise you to check the mini sd in some other phone,if it still doesn't get detected than get a new one or it may need to be reformatted.Opening up the phone might lead onto more problems.
Cheers !

"SD card unexpectedly removed" Possible hardware problem?

Hi Everyone,
I have been using my note 3 N900W8 Canadian variant for a few months now with a Lexar 600x 64GB Sd card and have not had any problems. But a few days ago I noticed this message "SD card unexpectedly removed" and my sd card was unmounted.
1st I tried the usual power off, remove card remove battery and replace card and battery. but dod not fix problem.
THen I tried a format on the card using the phone ,a format using a PC to FaT32, a restore through recovery and a KIes restore but nothing worked. I know the card is good because it works fine on my wifes LG G3.
Then I got a different Sandisk Ultra 16GB card and tried it in the Note 3 but the same happened.
So finally I called Samsung they told me to send them the phone but I would have to pay for repairs.
I am not under warranty so I figured I would have a look first, I opened up the phone and looked in the sd card slot and from what I can see it looks like pin 3 from the left hand side over is diffenet then the rest of the pins. Whe you look down at the slot ,the metal cover has a small hole and if you look at the hole you are able to see a pin, I believe this is pin thee.
My question is do other Note 3 owner also see this pin or could it be debris?
An other thing I noticed is that when you slid the sd card in, if you are looking from the back of the SD card slot with the back cover off and the motherboard exposed there is a small metal clip/lever that gets pushed down by the top of the sd card, is this normal?
I wish I could take pictures, but my camera sucks and cannot get close enough images. If I do get a better camera I will post the pictures.

Look at YouTube? I can check tomorrow.
You can easily repair it yourself buy purchasing a sd card slot from ebay.
soldered to mainboard
Thanks for the reply man, but that was the first thing I checked. the card is soldered to the mainboard. I think you might be thinking of the Note 2 because I remember it having a replaceable sim/sd card slot and also a replacable usb charger. I do not understand why phone engineers do this kind of thing when they know that these are the parts of the phone that fail. It would be so much easier to repair to just buy the part and repair it, but no they want you to send it to them so that they cna make more money of you after you have already given over 500 for the dammed phone.
Sorry for my rant, but if I was more confident in my soldering skills I would attempt to fix it , but I am afraid of also damaging the sim card slot since they are so close.
Carlos
I posted a pic of the board, the 1st pic is of the board trying to look in the sd card slot but the camera sucks and the 2nd I drew what the pins look like on the notepad.
