Sliding Panel for WM6.1 Pro - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

I searched the forums for this but didn't find much luck. Really sorry if I missed it. But is there any way or porting the Sliding Panel from 6.1 standard to 6.1 Pro?

No one? No one has any info on this?

Consider this topic BUMPED!

Ultimate Launch might serve your needs. There is a slide option for changing the tabs via gestures.

No offense, but it's:
a) Ugly IMHO
b) Probably Bloated
c) $14.95
d) NOT ON TOPIC GOOD SIR!

Slow down there, Junior. It was quite on topic. Ultimate Launch does in fact offer the effect the original poster is looking for, is not bloated at all, and offers a free trial of the software.
The OP can try it or not try it, and come to their own conclusions.
Think about what you write next time. Ask yourself, ''Am I contributing or just making myself look like a noob?''. This time around, you were doing the latter.

He's question was not "How to get the same effect ?" but "Can we use the original Slide Panel ?", which is quite different. I would be interested in a porting of the original Slide Panel, but I'm not ready to pay 15$ for that, and i'm sure the author of this topic agrees with me.

serious effort for WM6 on iphone

serious effort for WM6 on iphone
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
hello all!
i was recently gifted an first generation iphone, i hacked it and unlocked it and played around with it. i was not very impressed, the hardware is awsome but the software, i find to be lacking.
at any rate it has sat in a desk drawer for a month or 2 and then i read about that faked video with wm6 on an iphone. i thought to my self why not give it a try? its not like i will be able to buy that touch hd from htc that i wanted...
so i have been doing some research and it looks like there is an arm processor in this thing, which gives me hope. i plan to use a few open source utilities such as ibooter to get an environment on this thing for wm6.
i am wondering what advice people can give me, who have hacked newer versions of WM onto an older device, what to research, what to expect or useful utilities; i have little experience with the bowels of WM.
this will be my first attempt at something this grandiose, but i have surmounted greater challenges in the past. i am not asking for help, however i am more than willing to work with anyone else who is interested.
please keep non-constructive criticisms to yourself, if people didn't try things every time there was doubt we would still be living in caves.
thanks

Good luck! I've got to say the iPhone would be WAY more appealing to me if it ran Windows Mobile. If I were you I'd maybe try and contact some of the ROM cookers in the older device threads like the Blue Angel forum.

I saw somewhere that a Norwegian hacker did it some time ago, it is quite sad, but it is sexy to see WM running on wide screen

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but that video is fake, look at the very begining he manages to turn his i-phone on by just tapping on the screen. sadly it's propably just some kind of slideshow presentatio. too bad would have been nice.
Doh!!!!!
Stupid Fake Video!
Threads like this makes me sad, users making threads on this subject to be taken serious and fail to provide any type of commitment to achieve any goal to this subject. what im trying to say simply is... let the god damn roms chefs make threads like this and not the "omg i need WM6, on a toyphone"... i wanted wm6 so i got a phone with wm6 on it. not a god damn phone with ipod crap on it.

Well if ure serious about this, u could get a piece of advice from users such xplode, mamaich, bepe, tuatara and many many others (speaking as Blue Angel user).
Also, u might rather look in some iphone hacking forum. Furthermore, mind that iphone is quite a closed platform, so it doesnt have any documentation, besides some rev-eng done.
Anyway, there is little chance u will achieve this, and the amount work what is in front of you is more than u might expect. No man could do it alone, in one life.
Srsly, only way to do it, is to steal iphone blueprints form apple, and u will......
w8, didnt u say ur name is Bond?
People may flame you because they are 'die hard' WM fans, and anti-mac or w/e, but I must say that I wish you the best! If somebody were to do this, I would probably end up getting an iPhone. The only thing is, I don't like not having a QWERTY keyboard.
I most likely will have a WM phone for the remainder of my life / cell phone using (unless something really awesome comes out), but I love how smooth and 'error free' the iPhone is. It's just not for me w/ the current OS because you can't easily expand the iPhone as easily as you can a WM phone.
Dear dip****,
Clearly your lack of understanding about the real related undertaking about what you asking is beyond your grasp. its like hopping on a BBS and asking for some guidance on how to do heart surgery, sounds simple... open the chest cavity and do some poking. its not as simple as just droping an app, if it were that simple as to dropping ibooter... then all the 100x groups would have already done it and taken credit for it. i really wish scrubs like you never used the internet, clearly your terrible propaganda on trying to make people believe you would be elite enough to carry such under taking. as i reflect...
ROFL "ibooter to get an environment on this thing for wm6." while you are at it, try using a bios disk to start up the MAC OS on your computer...
you have no ****ing clue what your even up against... at least i am a hardware hacker. what the **** have you done other then post. "i has a dream for WM6 on ipod" thread? Ill learn to read if you learn to stop being a dip****.

Unless it absolutely cannot be done and it is proven that it cannot be done, why not let people keep on trying. Let them learn what they need to learn to give it a valid attempt. It would be a really intersting to see done; however, I fear that there may be some legal iussues if you are flashing WM to an IPhone - You will have to ensure that you are using a legal registered copy of WM wouldn't you? When we are flashing our current devices we already have WM on them so it is kind of a grey area since we already paid for WM however, putting WM on an IPhone which never had WM????? I don't know.
I say keep searching for your answers though until you can prove or find proof that it cannot be done. GOOD LUCK with your efforts. It may be an incredibly difficult thing to do, or who knows - Maybe it won't be that difficult if you have some kind of breakthrough.
I really can't stand it when people start assuming that they know other people and their "Qualifications" when they don't know a thing about them really. None of us really know anything about each other except for what we may publish in our profiles. Gotta have some faith in people sometimes and stop making assumptions.
Closed this thread.
This is getting out of hand!
The ONLY way to port WM6 is by writing new drivers for the iPhone.
It's not impossible, but it is a monstrous task.
A new thread is only allowed when serious steps are taken regarding (re)writing the drivers.
(So do some investigating on platform-builder!)

Programs you use

Hey everyone - now that many people are getting the HD (through the post, shop, stealing, whatever) I was wondering what programs that people are using.
If possible, please also state what the app does. eg;
Coreplayer - multiple-format video player.
Also, please post in Beards' topic with version numbers, screen resolutions, etc!

What we don't want to end up having is two topics with members posting what works in this topic but not in the other ~ which after all is what the other topic is all about.

Jon,
All you need do is go to the topic and ask......
Yes, the topic does list software titles working/not working but there's nothing wrong is posting anything specific about a specified program.
In fact I personally would recommend it.... The more information available is so much better.

This all stems from the fact software is a total mess on windows mobile - even looking at the biggest sites like clickgamer and handandgo none of them have support for the HD yet. As soon as microsoft bring out their software store the better - that's one thing apple got very very right with the iphone.

There, edited the first post. People can post in both topics. I think it would be interesting to see how many people, for example, used LunarTilt or that iPhone GUI - Beards, with your topic, if someone sees Coreplayer 2.5, they may not bother to list any other interesting apps they use.
Thanks for the link Acelister.

one major problem and handicap windows mobile will have over the iphone.
The mobile osx is only one device (iphone), so it is a lot easier for developers to create and optimise software for the device, as for wm the developers have to think about the many different devices, thus full optimisation isnt really possible, that is why not all programs will run on all devices.
cor blimey - didn't mean to start anything off here, sorry!
The thread of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442663 is fantastic, and very much appreciated.
If I ever catch up with you guys who have been playing with WM for years, and come across an unlisted app that works, please be assured that I will add to it
However - as a noob, short of Googling each and every one of them to find out what they do (ok, some are pretty obvious!), I have no idea which fall into the categories of "kinda vital" through to "dead useful if you want to do something dead specific".
What I was really hoping for in this thread (and I guess supersquash in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446128 and Philo25 in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445543) was a sort of 'starter for 10'.
Looks like between the various posts we're getting there though, so MANY thanks to everyone
Well I've never really gone out of my way to install anything on my Touch Elf, so this was pretty new to me too. I've been getting the hang of it though.
I've installed:
Advanced Config (changes various hidden options),
Capsure (screen capture utility),
Coreplayer (video player),
Klaxon (alarm),
Total commander (better than File Manager),
SPB Mobile Shell (makes the Today screen look completely different),
iFonz (makes the Today screen look like the iPhone).
Those are all easily found using Google.
Nice one Sir - good to see there's a few of us in the same boat!
sounds like a good starter list - now I just need to start Googling where to get these from...
LOL - wife's gonna love me for the next few weeks...
I'd best start earning some brownie points fast before the HD actually arrives

WM6.5/Bluetooth/Old IE

I didn't want to post this in the ROM Development forum because it doesn't apply to a specific ROM, but this is a question about them.
I am looking for a Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM that has Bluetooth and the OLD version of Pocket Internet Explorer. I really only use IE to stream MLB games, and the new IE is INCREDIBLY slow for that task. I use Opera Mini for everything else, but MLB requires IE. And I listen to the games through Bluetooth stereo headphones, so I need that too.
FingerMe Titanium's Lite version almost has it. There's a version with the old PIE but no Bluetooth, and a version with Bluetooth but the new PIE. I've looked around at all the ROMs in the Development forum but I haven't found a stripped-down one that has the specific combination I'm looking for: WM6.5, Bluetooth and old PIE.
I know a lot of people that read this are going to say, "Use a kitchen and build one yourself". Believe me, I've tried. I played with SuperJustKitchen and got close, but I think I just lack the required cooking skills necessary to produce exactly what I want in a ROM. About eighty failed recipes have convinced me of this.
Anyway, if someone out there can point me in the right direction that would be great. Thanks a lot.
I have to admit my first instinct was to jump your case for posting this. Technically it is a ROM development question, general though it is, and should be in that forum. No worries though, you did have some forethought on the matter instead of blindly posting wherever, so you get +1 for that.
However, you didn't look too hard lol, because illconcepts StripTease: Lots to Love edition is what you are looking for, and it has been around for a while now.

I posted in the main forum because it looks like most of the posts in the development forum are for specific ROMs, and I didn't want to start a new thread that didn't involve one of those specifically. Turns out I didn't even need to post a question at all, just not be so lazy.

Will HTC Sense with Android 2.1 support landscape home view?

Hi all,
i was wondering if we we will get landscape view for the homescreens on htc hero after the 2.1 update.
i have seen many videos and screenshots but none of them shows htc sense homescreens in landscape.
is this feature implemented?

I think the answer to your question is: no one gives a ****, son. Did you really think that a weak, uninspired and lame question masquerading as something of interest but merely serving to promote your poorly laid out and derivative blogging would have us all singing your praises ? I told you before, son, the only place your going to get any joy with that is in front of the mirror.
Having said this, perhaps we have all read you incorrectly. This is the renaissance man in action. You have used this 'post' as a modern medium to retell the myth of Narcissus, yourself cast as the vain youth. Or maybe this is moving on a couple of hundred years to neoclassicism - it's a difficult one to judge. When looked upon in this light I say bravo to you sir - re-educating the geeks is a fine and noble cause. Perhaps you might think of creating an allegory of HTC with all those wanting the 2.1 update cast as Tantalus, HTC the vengeful fates. It's food for thought

actually this is even not the first time i posted something about my blog, i.e. i posted my htc sense review and my motorola milestone review. luckily the people understood that i really meant to provide some information for the interested, and i got some positive feedback.
oh BTW: haven't you send me a private message asking to collaborate on my blog? i still have that in my inbox. funny.
and no, the question wasn't a cheap disguise, as you can see nobody could answer it. i still want to know if we will get landscape view as its a very good feature i got used to on my milestone testdevice.
No landscape mode im afraid (not juding by the video clips ive seen of the legend which runs 2.1 and new sense UI but does not tilt orientation.
and in response to the response - nice use of the english language ......... and you re right its food for thought ha ha

i hope this is not true. i really hate it when browsing on landscape mode and when you need to do something on the homcescreens you'll get the vertical view.
this would be a killer criteria. the more i see which way htc sense goes, the more i lean toward the nexus one (faster updates, landscape view).
I didnt realise the nexus one could tilt the homescreen !!!
and dont let gabriel tit put you off your blogging man. I quite often have a look at links and blogs on forums - sometimes theres a nuggett of information that is interesting on them!!!!!

well it has android 2.1 running and afaik this is a standard feature of it.
on htc desire you have the htc sense overlay which may be the reason for the missing landscape view.
milestone has it so i'm expecting that the nexus one has it too, but i'm not 100% sure.

Is this the real reason they forbid "best rom" threads?

Hi guys,
I've been wondering whether the real reason of forbidding "best rom" threads is because it'll make people only download certain ROM's thus some lesser known ROM's won't be downloaded and it'll make the chefs sad? Because the chance of a "best ROM" thread causing an endless debate is low. We're all grownups here
"Best rom" is quite a subjective term and leads to a thread having hundreds of opinions but nothing concrete. If anything it lets people get a crowd majority.
I use Dutty's creme de la creme because I personally like:
- feels like I get better battery life than stock or energy based on my own personal tests
- 2g/3g toggle in communications manager app automatically
- slide to unlock on the bottom of the screen instead of the top when waking the phone
- 12 icons instead of 9
- task manager in system notifications
- start menu on bottom left
Finally! someone who knows about 'best'.
Can i ask a favour? Im dbuying a new car soon, whats the best colour to go for?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT - sorry, but i have another question whilst we're on it. Whats the best music to listen to please?
Thanks again.
Well no, more because it is useless...
Best ROM threads are not forbidden, just useless.
The best ROM is the ROM that fullfills the most of your personal needs.
Since there are 6 billion people on the world with varying needs, there are at least 6 million different needs.
How to weigh?
eg for some people 1 hour extra standby is more crucial 3D video performance.
So How to grade?
Some people do not mind offering up stability if they get more batterylife or more performance.
How to grade?
Best ROM suggests absolute truth, in case of ROMS there is no absolute truth, as people differ, their needs are different and the relative importance for their needs is different:
Take two business analists (A and B) :
They need just office 2010, WIFI access, Internet and phone, and their agenda, tasks, GPS for navigation and an occasional game (teeter will do)
Performance for Navigation is very important. WiFi access is also very important.
Still one analyst will offer 1 hour of standby in order to have more fluent GPS navigation at 25 fps, while the other is more prone to longer batterylife, even if this means navigation will "stutter" at 2 fps
Suppose also there are two ROMS (X and Y) Rom x fulfilling all wishes analist A, Rom y fullfillig allwishes of analist 2.
Now tell me whichof the two ROMs is best?
Have I illustrated sufficeintly how pointless these thraeds are, or should I be even more more elaborate?
Off course it is disappointing for chefs if their ROM is not liked, but a good chef will tweak his recipe so more people will start liking his work.
Wilco, samsamuel, I'm off to bed with the biggest smile on my face!!!!!!

well, that's not really fair. color and music are entirely personal preference. whereas with ROM, there's some definite factors that will help us choosing the "best" ROM: looks, battery, apps, ease of use, speed, and many many more. so if asking about best ROM is useless, so it's useless too to ask about best laptop, cell phone, etc., no? yes, it depends of what you need, but when people ask about best they just want to know the best overall-wise. and it won't hurt to share your opinion of what's best. see the reply from ap3604 up there.

completely subjective, using looks as a 'best' decider is the same as me saying which colour is best. Some like sense, some hate it, some like the gtx theme, i think its terrible, some want chunky bright coloured icons, others want dark icons

Some are heavy wifi users. sopme are gamers, others talk all the time on the phone. The radio you use is probably the biggest measureable factor in battery life, and we all know how arbitrary the radios are,,, great for one person, terrible for the next, so again, a totaly useless comparator
apps

Any rom that has the right apps for every user is gonna be so bloated as to be pointless. Theres not a user here who would use 24% of the apps in such a rom. A totaly arbitrary way of deciding on best.
ease of use

The way i find easiest to do tasks is not gonna be teh same as the way you do things, and the way x y and z do things. Some want HTC messaging, some want MS messaging, , which is best? Well theyre both best, depending what you want.

A fast rom wont have eye candy, it wont have loads of apps running, so it wont fulfill your desired looks and apps categories, therefore it will be a trade off, and every person will trade those differently. Some will preffer no sense at all, in exchange for fast response, others will use sense with cookies hometab and tons of background apps and still consider a rom fast. Subjective.
So you see, THIS rom is the best, but so is THIS rom, and THIS rom, and THIS rom, and THIS rom, and THIS rom.
Which is best for you, however, only you can say.
At the end of the day, there isn't THAT much difference between the majority of the hd2 roms, its mostly surface differences. You can pretty much take any rom and make it much like any other rom. The ones that get the most downloads arent necessarily the 'best', they're just the ones that get updated most often, thus fulfilling the flash adicts needs for 'new new new', released by good chefs who support the userbase.
So which one's the best?
this one is teh one i considered best before i started to cook my own, sadly the chef moved on in february. On the PLUS side he gave me the kitchen to get me started, and i applied my own tweaks directly into it, so no more restoring serttings when i hard reset, cos theyre all hard coded, so now MINE is best!
that was easy. now everyone knows that best rom is by samsamuel. how about closing the thread now??
this thread is awesome!!!!!!
that is all for now!
let's put it this way...
instead of a thread about the best rom, why not make a thread (or whatever else) with a matrix comparison list? This will allow everyone to compare one or more roms and choose the best rom for himself ;-)

there are already a few threads that started to do that, none complete. you offering to go through teh roms and benchmark them, and make note of their includes/excludes? it'd make a nice evening project.

I agree.
However, since there are so many roms, updating cery fast, keeping this matrix up to data will almost be a full-time job. That's also why every initiative has stranded. It is just to much work.
If cooks would maintain their rom in a matrix.....
But still it would only be about functionality (and perhaps known bugs). If one would include battery life and stability, testing will be a big effort, especially if one chooses to integrate battery life..... even more

so if asking about best ROM is useless, so it's useless too to ask about best laptop, cell phone, etc., no?

Pretty much yes! I wanted to know what would be the best native android phone sgs or htc dh. Simple question, right? Apparently not. 8 Pages in with folks unable to decide which is the best.
So with devices/roms so similar it really does come down to personal opinion based on attributes sam is more able/willing to explain than i.
Dont get me wrong i trawled thru many rom threads wanting the 'best' and soon realised the question was simple. the answer? anything but!
I hate these threads, they are so ****ing redundant...
Please peoples don't open each time a new thread fore "with rom is the best"!
No it isn't forbidding, but it is useless!!
Reason way, What is Best? Best is abstract!
something good fore me isn't fore someone els.
reason:
-use
-personal taste (how to measure this?)
-personal needs (professional/private use?)
-Language
-Options
-...
You see?
You know it will be easy fore some user to have such list, but here you have a big tip: Experience/Traying give you knowledge.
And what stops you if the rom you install don't satisfy you? nothing you just take a other one!
People usually get way too bent out of shape over newbie threads (Im surprised no one has rudely said "SEARCH DAMNIT!" already)
Instead of asking for the best though, I would ask a more specific question like: "Based on your guys exoerience, which rom gives you the best battery life?"
Having a debate about best roms here its like having a discussion of politic and religion you just cant get the right answer or a nice answer. Same goes with people bricking their phones and asking the same question over and over people get stoned for that. LOL this forums its like the streets you gotta know how to walk them and know who to ask and what to ask its a cold cold strees I mean forum.
