SD Card problem? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 ROM Development

Probably this topic should be in a different place, but In some way is connected to my BA.(Im using xplode's WM6). Ok back to problem. So I have 4gb SD card and I can only copy files on it after format. If I want to add sth on a card files became damaged.(I have only one chance to write files if i want to add sth I need to copy all files back on my pc then foramt card and then copy files back on Card). Problem is connected to my BA because when i copy files on a device and from device on my card(by resco explorer) files are ok(i dont need to format card). So where is the problem??
I wish you understand what I'm talking about

Are you sure you have 4GB SD card and not SDHC? SDHC cards are not supported on BA.

I'm sure. Its weird cause when i copy file from phone memory to storage card files are ok. But whem I'm copying directly from PC to card throug card reader(or wm5torage) files are damaged, unless I make a format but format halps only for one time.

May I know the file system of your SD card?

file system of windows NTFS. System of card FAT32

i had this prob. on my previous card its due to the file format. Beyond 2 gb fat do not works so it goes to fat32 and but these non sdhc card keeps running on fat so this happens. in ideal form the 4gb sd should be 4gb sdhc to work properly.
this causes me to switch to 2 2gb sd card instead of 1 4gb. I also advice u to take backup regularly because u never know when they stop working properly.

so if its file system problem why my 1gb card i working(fat32 as well as 4gb). That could mean that 4gb card is damaged sp why its workin after format and why I can copy from phone without mistakes? Is there any way to change file system on a card? By windows formating i can only format fat32

Corrupt SD-Card 2 Gb

hello,
i copied in the morning some folders into sdcard via.. card reader...
then i went off with the card..
on the way.. i found out.. my sd card was empty somehow..
i softresetted, nothing fixed it..
when i refresh and view all files.. i see only strange characters and strange folder names..
and the sizes all together looks like 50 GB.
but in fact the pda tells me.. there is only 1,7 GB free instead 1,9 GB..
my sd card is 150x Adata 2 GB..
how can i fix this .. please help me out.. i dun wanna reformat this card, as i have important files on it.
yup you are the proud owner of a broken partition (very common with Fat16 and mobile devices)
from expereince ive found it happens alot with Fat16 and lots and lots of files (like those found in many of the better games or if you have alot loaded onto the card)
my recomendation is to get to a card reader and get some partition management software ( i like the trial version of Partition manager) and rebuild the partition on the card.
let me know how you go,
You can try downloading PC Inspector File Recovery, and running it on the card. It's freeware, and should work well given your card is formatted with an older filesystem.

You'll likely have to reformat your card, but at least you'll get your files back. If you do have to reformat, and your device supports FAT32, please format your card in FAT32 instead. It has a higher "tolerance" against this sort of failure.

mmmk with a broken partition you wont have alot of luck recovering file clusters, at the very least you will recover things that look like file.001, file.002, etc as most recovery programs will recover pure clusters regardless on data.
and yes Fat 32 is good but you will still get partition faults if you load too many files onto the card.

Migrate SD card to another (Program files ok?)

I install most of my programs onto my SD card. I just got a 1gig SD card and wanted to know if it's safe just to transfer the files over and pop it into my phone. Will all my installed programs still work as if nothing happened or do I need to do anything extra?
Hi,
Yes, that should be fine, I've copied the contents of the SD card to my PC a few times now as it's a little dodgy and had become corrupt.
If it happens I just format it on the PC then copy the contents back to it again and all is well.
Cheers,
D.
Not in my case
All files are there and seen but all programs won't run after migrating , via a card reader under WinXP , from 1G to the new 2G SD card . I have to reinstall every single program on the new card to get them work ! I'd tried both FAT and FAT32 format . Any idea why ?
1. copy all files from sd card to PC
2. Install Pocket Mechanic Professional or Flash Format 2.80 into the main memory of phone. (Free trial)
3. place SD card back into phone
4. Format the card in the phone using Pocket Mechanic Professional or Flash Format 2.80.
5. Copy all files back over from the PC to the SD Card.
6. Try to run a program.

[Q] vegacomb upgrading sd card

Hey,
I'm sure there is a way to do this but I'm not sure!
I have just upgraded to vegacomb and are still learning! I have the stock 4gb SD card at the moment and want to upgrade. Do I have to start from scrafch again or can I copy every thing from one to the other..... the from and all apps etc?
Thanks
First thing is to make sure you make a backup of your data in your 4GB card if it has enough space ( From the recovery bootloader ).
Then you copy all the folders on mem card into a folder on your computer. Make sure you select any hidden or file system files on the mem card and copy them too.
Depending on how you want to use your new card, you can either format it for FAT32 or mixture of fat32 and ext3 . If you are planing to move you apps to SD using link2SD, i recommend have dual format which allows copying "most" of the apps to the mem card without effecting how they work. Best way to do it is to create FAT32 first and as the first-to-read partition then create ext3. make sure both partitions are primary.
I use Easeus Partion Master ( on windows ) to format the card with dual file systems.
After you did it, you can copy back the files which you saved on your computer at first stage back to the new mem card.
Hope it helps
Hi, yeah ttah does help thank you mate. So the actual ROM (vegacomb) is stored on the tablet and not the card then... thats what I wanted to doubler check.
Thanks mate.

File size on SD card

I got a SD card that I've formatted in my phone but I just tried to copy a movie (a copy of a Blueray I own) of around 6GB to the card but it fails. I then removed the SD card and inserted it into my Windows 10 computer and tried again after which I'm told the file is too big for the file system on the card. There is plenty of free space on the SD card.
Isn't it possible to have large movie files on the SD card? If it is: What is the trick?
Which file system has the SD been formatted with? See the SD Properties in Windows.

The phone always formats to FAT32 - and if I format to NTFS the phone complains that the SD card is damaged and has to be formatted. It can't even read the NTFS formatted card.
FAT32 is limited to 4GB max file size.
You must format the SD card with exFAT, which also Windows reads/formats perfectly.

Do you know if the S7 Edge can work with exFAT or ?
Yes, of course, I use an exFAT formatted 64 GB SD card in my S7E...
Great - I'll format my card right away then! Thanks

How to format SD card in fat32 or ntfs format?

hello everyone, i am using samsung sm-g900h with marshmallow in it and i have rooted my phone with twrp recovery. The phone is working very fine but i dont know from last 2 weeks i am not able to copy , paste , rename , move or delete any file from my external memory card using Es file explorer . i googled about that and did cmd things and disk management things too to format sd card using laptop but it always show RAW as format not NTFS or FAT32. I then deleted ( unallocated) the SD card and inserted it back on phone and formatted it from there and its showing everything fine... but while copying files from laptop it stops at random file for so many minutes and when i open the folder i see some coding languages files and folders in it like some virus or so...
Is there any solution of it or i have to buy new sdcard ?
Try putting the card into a USB reader in your PC, and use a program called "MiniTool Partition Wizard Free", delete all the partitions on the MicroSD card, create a new Primary partition, then format to FAT32, see if that fixes it for your phone
