Poor Quality Tilt Car Cradle Review - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Accessories

Review of AT&T Tilt GPS Car Mount form JustPal at justpal.com purchased on eBay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...rksid=p284.m183&_trkparms=its=S%2BI%2BSS%2BSD
This is not directed at JustPal other than their typical shipping policy. They do have a generally good record. I did get the same item that was advertised on eBay at other retailers for 10-20 dollars more than their price of 35.99. Other retailers use the same picture so I would imagine it is the same unit. The shipping was $10.95 (now it is $12.65) which was lower than most also. Also their shipping was fast.
Their return policy is similar to others on eBay which is they don't credit shipping so I would have to pay return shipping and new shipping (which has now gone up)and thus the cost is prohibitive to exchange it. Plus I destroyed the packaging opening the item and that would void the return. It would be cheaper to just buy another and have it sent immediately and not have to wait for them to examine the package and perhaps tell me I am not eligible for an exchange. I would be out the return shipping and still pay new (higher) shipping.
My quandary is this: should I chance another one as this may be a fluke of a defect or it may be a trend. Or should I wait for one that is probably twice as much and purchase it from someone with a better shipping and return policy along with hopefully better quality. Perhaps someone else will take the chance on one and it will be ok.
Here are my issues with the Cradle:
1. At first I didn't even think it was going to match up with the USB on the bottom of the Tilt and I was a bit reticent to force it as that is a weak link. I wiggled it quite a bit but it finally slide on with a fair amount of pressure. I had the thought that perhaps the stylus was causing it to be offset a bit so I removed it and it did go on easier but still requires some fiddling with it. It may loosen up a bit in the future with some use but the fit of the cradle is fairly tight which is a good thing. The unit has a label that states CM-A8925 which would indicate that someone thinks it will fit but they must have not tried it.
2. I didn't plan on using he suction cup mount so I didn't try it as I wanted to use the vent mounts because I travel and rent cars frequently. Unfortunately they do not fit very secure in my Toyota Matrix. Others with more and flatter louvers may be better.
3. Now for the REAL PROBLEM; when I first plugged it in there was a noticeable buzz in the speaker. It seemed to change as I opened and closed items and then when I started up TeleNav, which has an icon that resembles a spinning propeller, the speaker "popped" each time the propeller fin rotated. It would appear that there is some type of shielding needed between the speaker and the Tilt. VERY Annoying!!!
4. Well, annoying that was while the speaker lasted!! I unplugged and re-plugged the "hands free" wire (a short wire with a microphone that plugs into the upper unit and the speaker) a couple of times and the speaker quit working altogether. Now I have gone being from annoyed to completely disgruntled. After inspecting the unit it was found that the upper connection was loose and wiggled with the connector plugged in. If I did hold the connection in tight, it would again cause the speaker to work, albeit with the same annoying fizzing and popping. Finally it quit altogether.
5. A "tab" which is used to glue the front and back together on the side with the defective connector is not as smoothly mated with the side piece as the one on the other side.
6. A small clip on the vent mount that is meant to "snug" it up fell off inside the vent and now rattles while I drive.
7. The mount which connects to the base unit and either the vent bracket or the suction cup was very difficult to get on and once on damn near impossible to get off.
That is about it. I guess I don't need to say I would not recommend this to anyone. A $46.46 lesson which I can't say was worth the money just to publish this review. I really expected at least something functional. Oh well, I have a speaker (poor that it is) and a USB connector to play with and see what I can do with them.
Hope this helps others.

what i did to get it to work
Hello i to bought 1 of those mounts not from them but somebody else on ebay. I wanted to use the mounts for the vent too, so when i got it i took it out of the box it looked good so out to the car i went while going down the steps to get outside i heard something hit the floor and it was that little mounting thing that supposed to keep it tight on the vent .. So now at closer look they will not work so i decided to use the suction mount which i think works great , now on to hou i got my tilt to fit the case mine also would noy slide into the usb mount it took me awhile to get it in .... and i was think wow this is not good going to break my phone right off ..
So i took it into my shop and got a dremel tool out and went to work on the inside off the mount on the sides i kept taking a little of both sides untill it slide in easy and perfect now it fits great and i think it will not harm the usb deal.
On to the speaker mine also makes all kinds of noise but it deos work great with tomtom and navmaps if you mess with the wire and get it just perfect the noise will go away i can live with a little noise also when my phone is by my computer at home the noise also comes through my speaker ...
just thought i would add my 2 cents worth if i new what i know now i would of not bought this mount but i did get it to fit perfect after a hour or so with the dremel tool

Thanks for the tips. If I can get the speaker to work again I will try the shaving trick. I don't think I will try another one of these but wait on someone to try some other vendors.

i bought the oncourse 3 mount for the tilt from buygps.com and it has a FM transmitter built in. I comes with only the suction mount.
It works as advertised. I used this last weekend while driving and found that over all it is a nice product. I was like $40 inluding shipping or something. I like the FM trnasmitter BC i can now listen to my podcasts on my radio rather than using headphones or such.
it definately isnt perfect but it does work.
my 2cents.

it got it on sale last week.

Hmmmm ... so it arrived broken? Irregardless of what their return policy is, I'm pretty sure they have to replace it or offer a solution unless it is listed as "as-is". I'd check Ebay/PayPal on that. You shouldn't be out the funds to replace an item that was broken to begin with.

I ordered one of these too. How is the charger? I heard the brodit ones fry the device. Does the speaker interfere with bluetooth handsfree?

Hmmm
Had exactly the same problems with a very similar sounding mount. It was very difficult to get it to mate up (too difficult to use regularly), it screamed when I did get it in, then the device went into a soft reset loop like something was permanently pressing in the reset recess.
I shall be returning mine for a refund and I'll wait until they get a new / better batch.
Hmmm.

Just got mine and I have the same problem with the connector not aligned. I think I will swap it for the one with the FM transmitter. I don't need the FM since I have a bluetooth stereo but I can use it in other cars.

New Item I found
well even tho i got mine other 1 to work with the dremel tool i think i will get this 1 instead..

I too, bought this same unit. I really like mine. I've had no problems with it.
The only thing that dissapointed me, was that the quality of the sound from the FM broadcast from the unit. It's definately strong and clear, but it sounds muddy. It's not great for music. It works just fine for GPS though.
I use it with TeleNav and I have no issues with it. It's a good, solid unit.
I've not tried connecting the audio via a cable yet, however. I don't have a stereo in my car that accepts input that way. I plan on upgrading though.

I had also considered tht one until I read this:
Hi Nick,
We’re sorry for the confusion. The G4700x car kit for PPC6800 is only compatible to use with the HTC mogul with Sprint and will not compatible to use with Tytn II, Kaiser or Tilt. We’re still working on the Kaiser car kit, but at this we do not have an ETA.
Thank You for contacting Seidio
Kelvin Chung
Technical Specialist
Seidio, Inc.
And I got this response back from Seidio asking to put on a list for when the TILT car kit comes out:
Dear Jim,
Thank you for your inquiry at Seidioonline. We will be happy to assist you with your concern. The car mount will not be coming out any time soon. We do not have a list for those requesting this mount; therefore, the best way to be updated is checking our site www.seidioonline.com
So, I guess we are back to trying various ones that "claim" to work until we find one that does work.

On a side note, one of those sites had this:
*Notice to Drivers in California and Minnesota:
State law prohibits drivers in California and Minnesota from using suction mounts on their windshields while operating motor vehicles. We recommend the use of Arkon AP020 90mm Circular Disc w/ 3M Adhesive [SKU 961] to transform any windshield mount into a console mount. Easy PocketNAV, Inc does not take any responsibility for any fines, penalties, or damages that may be incurred as a result of disregarding this notice. (See California Vehicle Code Section 26708(a); Minnesota Statutes 2005, Section 169.71)
I'm in California, but I think I'd still roll with one of those suction cup ones with the FM transmitter... looks like a quality product.
Ticketz be damned.

Very Good Mount Found on E-Bay
This is my first post, I usually read and try to soak in as much information as I can. I was reading this post and had to contribute;
I recently purchased a mount from GPSLot, an E-Bay store, I opted for the "Buy it Now" at $10.00 + $5.00 shipping I figured I couldn't go wrong. I also purchased a mini USB and 3.5mm Stereo Audio Adapter, which allows you to charge your Tilt II and you have the stereo jack (my Nissan Titan has an input jack in the dash). I received both items in 4 days at $22.00 shipped!
I am very happy with the mount. My truck has a very long dash, so I put the mount on the dash because my windshield is just too far away. It is has 2 different axis' to adjust and the cradle rotates letting you turn your Tilt II on either side or leave it straight up. The phone is held in place by a spring loaded catch that tilts back to let it slide right in. I was afraid it was going to be one of those stiff plastic cradles that put alot of pressure on your device as it is being installed or removed, but that isn't the case.
My wife has a Tom-tom One, and I have a Mio Digiwalker c220, so I have something to compare this mount to. I like the way this one sits and the adjustments much better than either of the actual GPS mounts.
You can browse the store and see what you think,

recommendation for wired headset/mic

Hello,
Would someone please recommended a good/decent wired headset/mic earphone? Ideally one with the USB male end that the Tilt will accept.
Thanks.
if you have a good set of 3.5mm headphones you can use this
http://www.seidioonline.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=866
I just got mine, works great. A bit hard to insert the male into the kaiser for the first time (in my case it was to big for the female, lol)

That may be a viable option.

I got something similar in the retractable InEar Isolators, also from Seidio (http://www.seidioonline.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=777)
i can confirm that they work well, both in the sense of working well with the kaiser and also working well in terms of sound quality. I have only had them for a while and don't make that many phone calls, but have had no complaints so far about the mic quality, but still too early to judge on this.
my main complaint is the way the jack bends to the right, which obstructs taking the stylus out on my kaiser. i can still take it out, but only with considerable effort.
Anyone know if a straight plug version is avail?

Thanks for that mini review. Is anyone aware of a seller in the UK with a straight plug version of these? I'd rather avoid the $25 postage they charge to post it to the UK. What an oversight to not consider whether the stylus can be removed properly when the headset is plugged in It makes me wonder if they actually tested out a prototype before putting them into production. The way I see it, the only acceptable plug shape is straight because even if it bent 90 degrees to the other side then it would interfere with any attached lanyard, bent up would obstruct the microSD slot and down means the device wouldn't sit flat.

I've been happy with the HTC OEM earphones from this guy: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-OEM-STEREO-...ryZ20336QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Hard to beat his price - less than five bucks delivered in the US. I was impressed enough that I went back and bought a second pair.
The USB jack on the ones that I have bends 90 degrees to the left, so the stylus isn't covered.

Thanks for the link. It’s not worth me crossgrading from the original HTC supplied headset for those - they seem much the same sort of thing. If you look at the other link I was referring to you'll see they're the sort of earphones that go right into your ears. The problems I have with my current original TyTN II headset include the foam 'socks' falling off regularly (the original socks only lasted a month or two and as HTC don't sell replacements, I'm now using Motorola ones) also they're a less than comfortable fit. If enough people enquire with Seidio then it may speed up the process of them releasing straight plug versions (hopefully with a decent carrying box).

Tilt GPS Cradle from Justpal.com Revisited with GOOD NEWS

MisThis is a follow up to my last review of the GPS Cradle from Justpal.com.
First of all I must give KUDOS to Justpal.com . As I wrote before, I really had no problem with them as far as quick shipping. Their shipping fees were also lower than other vendors with the same model of GPS cradle. I referenced my previous review in the short space that eBay gives you for comments. The folks at Justpal emailed me for a copy of the review which I sent them. Of their own volition they sent me another cradle without charging me any shipping. While I was surprised, I did not anticipate much better performance than the last. I was pleasantly surprised!
Each of the issues which I had with the cradle was resolved with this new cradle. I apparently had received a unit that was produced with multiple defects.
The first issue I had was the fit of the Tilt in the cradle. This one is very good. It is still tight but the connector lined up without undue force or any wiggling of the Tilt to get it aligned. I would say this issue is resolved.
Secondly, since the vent mount brackets didn’t fit well in my Matrix vents, I used the suction cup mount. It is better than I had anticipated and actually allows the arm on the mount, which is covered with a ribbed plastic sleeve, to provide a bit of a cushion to the unit where it rests on the dashboard. It could also be adjusted to allow a landscape view of the road but I prefer to see the long view rather than the wide view of the road. It is slightly more to pack when I travel but not a real problem at all. I would consider this issue resolved also.
Thirdly and the real issue was due to the initial trouble I had with the speaker, I was never able to get the car on the road and drive around before the speaker broke completely. While this one still has some minor bleed thru with the car off and sitting still, there is not the incessant buzz as before and not even noticeable once the car is on and moving. The quality of the speaker is very satisfactory for the speaking voice of the TeleNav GPS. Where I can barely hear the voice from the Tilt speaker with the volume all the way up outside of the cradle, I was able to hear the directions quite clearly thru the built in speaker of the GPS cradle unit with the volume only approximately half way up on the Tilt. I don’t know about music but that is not a concern to me. The connectors are sturdier and they don’t wiggle on this unit. Thusly, the key issue has been resolved.
The only minor issue is that the suction cup mounting bracket still is a bit too snug to get off and on the cradle easily but a couple of passes with a small file resolved that issue and it is still snug but easier to get off and on.
In summary, I am now a “happy camper” and very appreciative of Justpal for taking the chance on sending me a new unit with no commitment on my part to give them a good review. They do have other Tilt desktop charging cradles and other accessories which I will order from them due to their outstanding customer service. I will be purchasing the charging cradle and a set of three of the combo pen and stylus that I have seen on well know sites for substantially more than Justpal charges.
Hope this helps others on their quest for a GPS cradle for their Tilt.
hello i bought 1 too so where do i get the version of this mount ? i would like to check it out ...

It's $35.99 with $12.15 shipping which was fast. From the email I got from them this is the newer model that fits better - and the one they resent me does.
Here is the link to the search I did on the Tilt in their store.

that looks great! I am gonna have to get one of those for my travels....
speaker not as good
Well, I used to have one. I bought it originally for my previous Hermes 8525. It does hold the device securely as it is made specifically for the device. But you cannot rely on the speaker function due to it being too close to the, so will hear static all the time, especially while the phone is charging.
I have one for my old Wizard. It came with an iBT bluetooth GPS for like 10 bucks. It fit great and charged great but the speaker never did work. I just did a chop job on it this week end and turned it into a really nice holder for my tilt. hacked off the crap at the bottom, fitted a usb to a charger, mounted to a vent and it's nice. I Just took some crapy pictures from my web cam to show it off before I realized I've got nowhere to post them. So, you'll have to just trust me, you're jealous.
Is there an audio-out port on the cradle that can be connected to any other speaker source? I cannot tell from the pictures. Thanks!
Just received mine. Kaiser fits securely, speaker works well (with 1 exception below), suction cup works well. 3 complaints if anyone has any idea how to solve them:
1 - Bounces up and down ALOT and is too long! Appears to be an aluminum tube with black plastic cover. Has anyone tried shortening it by a few inches? How does it connect on each end? Did that help with bounce?
2 - Kaiser fits very tight. Can be difficult to get out (but better than having it jump out on it's own). Does is loosen up over time?
3 - When Kaiser is in the cradle some sentences in TomTom get truncated, in particular the one that says "After 400 meters take left turn" now says only "After". Works fine out of cradle but truncates this verbiage while in cradle. Weird.

I have had mine now for a few weeks and still pleased with it. I can comment on the first two.
1. I bent the tube down so that it was tight against the dash and that helped quite a bit. I have a Matrix so the ride is not all that smooth so it still jars some but so does my butt.
2. It does slide in easier after a while. I can now get it out without an extreme amount of effort but it is still snug.
3. Dunno, don't use TomTom. I use Telenav. Just a comment on the two. I have a friend who sometimes brings her TT along and I do like the way that the Telenav announces the streets instead of just the turns. Other models of TT may do that but hers doesn't. (Well, I did comment anyhow on all three)

Cheaper alternative to the Brodit mount ??

Hi all,
Does something similar to the Brodit mounts exist on the market? I'd like to have something as good as the Brodit but they're so expensive.
24 euros for the Promount for my car and 29 euros for the Touch Pro passive holder . For 2 pieces of molded plastic !!!
If I can't find something else, I'll buy a generic "clamp" holder to fix to the airvents (I don't like something attached to the windshield) but it's not as practical as the Brodit.
With a lot of people buying new cars or new PDAs, I can't believe there isn't a website selling second hand Brodit mounts. Or is there one?
How about a Brodit mount at £29.00? Saw one at blueunplugged.com. I have never used them I am waiting for the postman to deliver my touch pro. But I will be giving them a go in a day or two. The feedback on them seemed ok, yes a couple of dissatified customers but lots of 9/10 and 10/10 too
hi,
i got this one:
http://www.pda-punkt.de/pda/htc/touch-pro-zubehoer/aktiv-kfz-halterung-htc-touch-pro.html
it's working perfectly. you still need a mounting part, but at least it's an active mount for the price of a passive brodit.
I also have a problem with the price for the Brodit's considering they are just a piece of molded plastic.
Has anyone tried something like the Igrip universal mounts? http://www.amazon.com/gripper-holder-gooseneck-suction-phones/dp/B000JERG36
A generic solution would be way more practical as I could use it with other devices than the TP...
Three Weeks ago i bought one of these: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=160290613605 ... shipped from hongkong for about 7 euro ... im impressed of the quality, my touch pro fits perfect in it, because its adjustable ...
the only thing, it vibrates a bit with the "flexible-arm" ... but with the "bonding foil" its just perfekt ...
Ordered my Brodit "Active" mount for £29.00. It arrived next day. With the Euro/GBP exchange rate cant think of a good reason to buy a "Walt Disney" copy!
I ordered an Igrip instead cost me an equivalent of £15 including shipping in Sweden. It's Universal so I can use it for any device and suction cup so I can use it in any vehicle. I change device more often than I change underwear and I want to be able to bring the mount with me when travelling by air/train and having a rental..
Brodits are good if you have the same device and the same car for a very long time -- but I can't simply justifty the cost for that little piece of impractical plastic...
Sometimes I just hate XDA. I keep finding things from other countries that I want. Those Brodit mounts are very neat looking. But I must tell you. I have this generic mount I got from PDair.com that has spring loaded sides that you simply push together and the pressure holds the device quite securely, at least for non offroad travel.

It was exactly one of those I got. I have been using it for a day and a half and it works great so far. The suction cup was unbelievably strong compared to the ones I've used with GPS:es in the past.

Yup! Looks exactly like that one so I guess so.
The exception is I have a compact mount not a gooseneck. I've been using mine daily now in the car and I'm still as happy with it. Excellent value for money. (I have used it with the TP and my wife with a P1i and an Xperia.)
The only issue for me is that it sometimes presses the down-volume button on the side, I solved this by simply mounting the phone 4-5 mm higher.

The Brodit clips are available in the US via (Proclip - still pricey, but well worth it in my opinion. Just ordered by Fuze holder today to replace my Cruise (Polaris) holder.

Proclipusa.com is who is the USA dealer for the Brodit line. I have one in my car and there is a reason it's expensive...because it's nearly perfect. I like how everyone devalue's "molded" plastic (not you). I'm sure no engineering or research went into making model specific mounts for just about every vehicle on the market

Well, no one is argueing with that... But the fact is that they're awfully expensive and now there seems to be good alternatives. I had never seen the use of this spring-loaded design earlier.
I also wonder why Brodit does not provide suction-cup mounts for their holders?? I really love the "phoneholder" from the Brodit, but the thing I dislike the most is the proclip-car-mount itself. I want to be able to remove the mount and move it to another car or just removing it when parking while travelling. The latest trend in Sweden is that burglars systematically smash windows on cars with GPS-mounts, just to check if the owner might have forgot the GPS in the car. So, being able to remove the mount is quite an important feature at least for me...

Yikes, I can see why you would want to remove it then. That really sucks.
PDA mount holder
http://shop1.frys.com/product/5342198?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
i picked this up at Frys the other day and it works well i can add a charger to it while docked, or use the headset. it can rotate 360 degrees it also comes with the AC vent clips if the windshield mount is not legal in your state/country.
I got these together:
http://www.expansys-usa.com/p.aspx?i=174210
http://www.expansys-usa.com/p.aspx?i=145598
EDIT: Case is terrible, you have to slide the keyboard in a plastic pouch and it doesn't work good at all. Sent the case back but I like the magnetic mount now I use it with the Noreve case.
I change phones more often than I change cars.
I use the Brodit/proclipusa car mount with a Krusell "Button mount". See Here.
When I change devices, I just get the Noreve case with belt clip and it fits my generic mount!
If you want to add tilt & swivel then you can by adding Brodit/Proclip tilt & swivel with blank face.
Finally I got a Herbert Richter mount, one part that is attached to the airvent, one that holds the Touch Pro.
The set is very small and I like the way the TP is hold into it. Want some pictures?
how about this:
http://mobile.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=03722&dept_id=039&cat_id=1149
at USD30, is still expensive but has speaker & mic, can function as handfree. free shipping worldwide as well...

[Q] Motorcycle mount?

Just wondering if anyone's come up with a good way to mount the Defy on a motorcycle yet? Can't find a dedicated mount for the Defy yet so am looking for other options...Waiting for delivery of a plastic holster which, if I could remove the belt-clip, I could probably attatch to a universal stem mount. Not sure about how much clearance there would be between the holster and the phone for any securing nuts/fasteners so just interested if anyone has rigged up something similar? Can't wait to get my hands on this phone as the IP67 spec makes it perfect for use as a motorcycle sat-nav!
(Sorry- unable to include pictures/links to the proposed holster and stem mount as I'm a n00b!)
Hello mate,
I bought a couple of the cheap mounts from China, they use the standard 4 holes at the back, which makes it perfect for sticking cable ties though to hold it on the handle bars (see image).
I put it on the other day and took it for a test ride about 15 miles. It held in, but doesn't stop me feeling a bit scared that the vibrations will make it fall out.
I bought the origional motorola mount, put a decent bolt in the stem hole and used thw standard screw on mount. Done about 150km within like that, listening to music and google turn by turn through my bluetooth headphones.
2 issues though, wish it had a lanyard strap for a safety latch just in case it comes free the holder. 2nd issue is tha capacitive screen with racing leather gloves...
Cheers. That looks promising but I'm hoping to mount it to my R1 which has clipons. I think a stem mounts the only safe option (hate to pay the £70 odd Motohaus are asking for it tho!)...See what you mean about the posibility of it coming out of the upper clip (the holster I've ordered clips in on all four corners so may be safer.) Maybe you could rig up something that would lock the upper clip down- a loop of strong fishing line or something similar...bit of a bodge but wouldn't want to test the phones ruugedness by slinging it down the road at speed!!

Cheers. How did you secure the Motorola mount to the stem hole? Not sure how you'd be able to recess a captive nut or something similar within the stem itself? Ta.
I think the best idea maybe to try and fabricate your own, maybe get a small sheet of metal and fold the ends over so that the phone will slide in from the side only. Could then screw a ram mount bit on the back and attach to the bike that way. I'll probably try this when I can be bothered
The reason I got the defy though is because of it's ruggedness and because I go Dirt biking a lot and use the phone for Ordnance Survey mapping. I'm forever falling in rivers or big muddy bogs so I need to feel confident that it'll hold the phone in!
I used one of these
then got arount 5-8 rubber grommets like this
and pushed it through the stem hole. Its real tight!. Left a bit of of bolt out the top so the pivot locking system of the oem holder attaches to the bolt.
It looks pretty decent, nothing that ruins the looks of my 600rr.
I'll take some pics when Im in the garage next and post it up so you can see.
here it is, I'm going to wire it up to the battery when I find the right cables, needs to be removable since the bike does a lot of track days in race fairings.
Nice one- good job!
Might have to do something slightly different as I've got a steering damper mounted. Think I'll need to offset the carrier plate forward a bit...found site: telferizer.com that has stem mounts that suit various Ram mount parts so think I'll get something sorted. Thanks for the help!
Haha thats class, some proper american chopper business there- would have looked better if you had fab'd a custom tank and integrated the mount in the tank
I bought a Universal RamMount for ~50€ a few days ago, I'll post some photos as soon as I have it
Update...
...Managed to pick up one of these http://telferizer.com/ off ebay and these Ram Mount parts to secure the phone http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000WJ90K0/ref=oss_product http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002KO5XVU/ref=oss_product , http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001QD8Q5Q/ref=oss_product , http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000WJ90K0/ref=oss_product
Particularily like the phone holder as, having watched a UTube clip, I can be confident that the phone won't pop out over bumps in the road (got the suspension set up stiff for fast road/track use!) Hope this helps.
Can you not slip a couple of rubber bands over the ends of the bracket to keep the phone in place?
Simple solutions to complex problems
I'm sure there's loads of options for mounting the phone tho some better than others. My main concern is the phone coming out of whatever mounting plate it's held into- some of the car dock plates don't look too secure to me. Reckon rubber bands would help hold a clip shut but wouldn't do much for screen visibility! The RamMount plate http://www.ram-mount.com/CatalogResults/PartDetails/tabid/63/partid/082065077045072079076045085078052085/Default.aspx........comes with various length holding arms and can be set up to hold the phone as tightly as you like.
Different strokes for diferent folks I guess!
I bought the RamMount Fingergrip, have a look.
on picture #4 you can see an additional screw at the bottom of the 'fingergrip', that's because the defy is not big enough. But it's sitting very tight even with only the 'fingers' left and right.
I have a question: with RamMount Fingergrip, can you charge the phone or the micro USB port is hidden behind the finger?
Thanks in advance.

That's the same mount that I bought. I used the short "fingers" on all four sides (1 one each long side instead of 2) - instead of the large "endplates" suggested for the top and bottom of the mount plate. This holds the phone very well and it is still possible to access all of the buttons and sockets on the side of the phone...perfect!!
Can someone please post some pictures of the Defy installed in the RamMount Fingergrip? Thanks

Here's a couple of pics of the Rammount Fingergrip. Road tested it today and it seems very solid and gives full access to all buttons and sockets if you use the four small fingers...

[Q]Best Car Mount fo Nexus 4

i came from Htc one X and i was using kidigi car mount, and was nice because i just need to "dock" in the mount no need to "plug" the wire like in universal mount. i read here about wireless car charger but not sure, its kind expensive and im kind temted for htc one (and this phone does not have wireless charging capabilities) so im not sure if i should buy. i was thinking something like this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110978510653&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123
i heard about clingo but not sure how many "uses" you need before the need for wash. so anyone knows a good car mount? should i buy for n4 or universal? if you had a link would be nice (ebay ) because amazon its to expensive to my country =X
Thanks a lot

I always go universal, personally. Because I can probably use the same mount down the road or my wife's phone can fit in it as well. The one you listed is good but also I like the iottie universal mounts as well.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/iOttie-Easy...716445?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item27cf4df1dd
These have the "gel" cups rather than the plain suction cups that easily warp in the hot sun. The gel pads are really sticky like the clingo, but the suction cup can be wiped clean with a damp lint free cloth to reconstitute the adhesive gel it uses. I use two different car mounts.
One is the Kropsson Aero which fits both my N7 (naked) and N4. I since cut the cushion pads down so that I can use it with my N7 with the Seidio Active case on lol.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/AER-jumiss-...040?pt=GPS_Holders_Mounts&hash=item4605c94078
And my second go to mount is mainly for my N7, the Xenomix NX2000 because even though I can use the above kropsson, the N7 does slightly obstruct my view. This Xenomix hangs off the dash a bit and keeps the N7 out of sight and I can clearly see out. Another 'good' thing is that I can use this with my N4 as well. I say "good" because you can't charge the phone while using this, the ports are covered lol.

The Aero is not meant to be placed on the windshield. In that respect look for the iottie's with the cushioned grips that can do both windshield and dash.

This is the "one touch" mounts. Where you just press the phone back slightly will release the grips. This is similar to the Aero I have. I just don't like putting suction cups on my windshield.

Best car mount?
If you want the best, be prepared to pay for the best.
http://www.proclipusa.com/
Look up the different DEVICE holder for the Nexus 4.
Look to find a mount suited for your VEHICLE.
I got the swivel mount for my accord and it came up to about $80. It's a bit on the pricier side, but these are truly the BEST mounts you will ever use, hands down.
Regards,
100% agree that Proclip (US name for Brodit) are the best mounts you can get. They're pricey but worth it.
I'm actually looking to sell my Nexus 4 mount with integrated charger, so shoot me a PM if you're interested in a bit of a cheaper price (you'll still need the vehicle plate). I'm only getting rid of mine since I've started using a case for my phone instead of going naked.

They are nice, my issue is that if I need a mount for my car and I can simply move from car to car without worry if the proclip will fit. From my understanding proclips fit a specific car model. So not really universal when you can use it in one model of a vehicle. So I'll need to buy two of these mounts to make it work and while worthwhile in the long run, 1. Is too expensive, 2. and what if I need to buy a new/different car for whatever reason?
And can you use different cases with these mounts? I see the one that can fit "some cases" but there's a limit there. A 40 plus 30 clip for each car, makes it about $140usd to be used each car.
Those factors alone, keep "ME" from buying it.

seems like the phones, new phones new cases and accs xD but yeah they are specific as far i see. iOttie seems good pick
They have a system to swap the mount from car-to-car but you'll still need the car specific mount in each car, so if you're constantly swapping they don't really make sense.

I use a ballistic case and the garmin gps holders grip it real well. There are two small cut outs in the sides of the case that aid in the grip.
They're only a few bucks on ebay or like $20 at best buy.
I'm using the Mountek mount that goes inside the CD drive. I don't use CD's anymore so it doesn't get in my way. I think it's a little pricey but totally worth it. Depending on your console it may get in the way of some of your buttons which it doesn't on my car. Also, some cars (such as my grandma's) have the CD slot lower in the console and the phone would be too low for me.
Mountek nGroove
I almost went with the Exogear Exomount 2 but I didn't think it would stick to my dashboard since it's textured and contoured a bit.
Exogear Exomount 2
I use the mount for maps and with a OBD2 Adapter. Now I just need the Jabra Cruiser 2 to go on sale so I can have a complete setup.

It doesn't slide but there is a considerable amount of tilt. You wouldn't be able to hide it from someone in the back seat but the person in the passenger seat would have to move in order to look at the screen. Again, this probably depends on how your console is set up, mine is dead center.

The phone is at a perfect height for me. For maps I don't look at the screen very often because the turn by turn directions are enough most of the time. Calls are not perfect with the speaker phone or with voice commands (I have to scream to the phone) that's why I need to buy a bluetooth speaker phone.

I have a similar setup in my Truck. I have a JVC head unit that has an external AUX port where my HTC Car Stereo stick goes to stream stuff from my N4 or N7. Use either Aero or Xenomix mount for my device, or none at all and to answer any calls, I use a Parrot Minikit Neo. This little guy goes to deep sleep and wakes up when the door opens or closes and I customized it with a greeting and signing off greeting which greets my 4 yr old when we get in the truck. She loves it lol.
