Need application to turn off ActiveSync - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Before I had an unfortunate episode with my Cingular 8125, I had a little application that you could tap to make ActiveSync go away so you could use the device as a hard drive. Tap it again, and it returns to ActiveSync. For the life of me I can't remember the name of the application. Can anybody help?
THX

You can choose between the commercialware Card Export II or freeware wm5torage.

For anyone having problems with activesync - my solution...

Okay - I was having no end of problems connecting to Activesync and syncing to Exchange (local desktop would work ok), sometimes activesync on the desktop pc would stay at 'connecting' other times it would try to connect, but fail with error code 80072efd or 0x85002003. I also kept getting the error message on the PDA - unable to connect with your network settings (or something like it...).
After a couple of days trying to get it working (and occasionally succeeding after hard resets etc) I started investigating...
So, I checked a few things... Activesync 4.X uses a Remote-NDIS host on the PDA to make an IP based lan-type connection to your pc. Check your settings in
Settings > Connections > Network Cards > Network Adapters
for the 'Remote-NDIS Host'.
Mine had been set on 'Use Specific IP Address'. Change this to 'Use Server-Assigned IP Address'
Now check that it says ' My network card connects to' and that work is selected.
Now check Settings > Connections > Network Cards > Connections'
and check that the proxy server states - This network connects to the Internet' and that there is no proxy server specified.
I don't know if this will sort any issues out for anyone else - but it worked a treat with mine, so having spend days trying to get it working I thought I would share my horribly annonying experiences!!!
Hope it helps,
Liamo
on secoind thoughts - this has caused me more problems... grr I hate activesync - ignore my babbeling....
If I sort it properly I will post again..
i'm off to eat some apple-humble pie.

Okay,
so I uninstalled version 4.1 of activestink and installed the latest version 4.2. I created the pairing and hey presto - it's synching again.
Yup - it's great fun.
ohh, I also hard-reset in between 'cause I was annoyed!!!
;-)
liam
this worked for me.
i too faced the 'spinning wheel' problem with active sync.
i figured out that it was the configuration of the desktop or laptop and not the wizard as such.
1. after connecting the USB, i cud see messages like RNDIS device ready and all.
2. after this click on the lan icon in the taskbar of desktop. it displays all the lan connections. select the one that is for windows based mobile device.
3. in the properties for this lan connection, in general tab, check the box for Internet protocol.
4. In the advanced tab, click on settings for windows firewall.
5. check if activesync is added to the exceptions list. if not, check the box for activesync. click ok.
this should solve the problem. i sometimes have to do each time i connect thru usb.
hope this works.
hey guy i also had the same problem and although the first post was somewhat helpful, i still had to take an extra step in order for activesync to connect properly.
1. after changing to " Use Server-Assigned IP Address" in the connections tab i then had to:
2.go to the "usb to pc" interface and uncheck "enable advanced network funciotnality"
thanks for this post - i couldnt get my activesync to woork for the past 5 days
Activestink 4.2 won't even start on my computer
I don't really need it anyway

You should make the activesync on the phone a serial connection instead of a ndis connection, this cab helped me:

It was driving me crazy the first day I had my wizard.
you can also use a registery hack:
use your favourite regeditor;
change
HKLM\Drivers\USB\FunctionDrivers\“DefaultClientDriver“=“RNDIS“
into:
HKLM\Drivers\USB\FunctionDrivers\“DefaultClientDriver“=“Serial_Class“
Erase:
HKCU\Comm\RasBook\’USB\“Entry“
do a Soft-Reset.
check after the reset if a:
HKCU\Comm\RasBook\’USB\“Entry“ key has been made for serial communication otherwise it won't work.

How can I run this cab if I can't use Activesync? (My PPC (MDA Pro) is in a vanilla state)
in my case was easier because i was able to copy on the ppc but i couldn't copy from it. trry to load it somewhere where you can take it from with your phone.
I've tried d/ling it from here but It doesn't save as a cab file.

This is the trick I found out:
Connect your phone, wait till activesync starts.
Run taskmanager on your pc and kill:
WCESMgr.exe and wcescomm.exe
Go to your explorer (again PC) and doubleclick:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\wcescomm.exe
Activesync will run now without errors (but doesn't sync!).
click on explore, copy the cab to the phone.
Disconnect the usb-cable, start the cab on the phone.
Reboot the pc, reconnect the usb-cable and activesync will sync again

I've make the registry changes but after soft resetting, no HKCU\Comm\RasBook\’USB\“Entry“ key has been created. Can you please post the contents of that reg key so I can put in manually otherwise is there something else I need to do to get the key created?
I have also had a similar problem with my computer and my Qtek 9100 not "finding each other" properly for a sync over USB ince the day I bought it over a year ago. Haven't been too bothered with it, as I've synced via BT instead (which works perfectly).
Still, technology that doensn't work properly seriously anoys me. Having tried all other available and suggested solutions I stumbled across the-equinoxe's recepie of reg-changes. After following the instructions I also ended upp with no HKCU\Comm\RasBook\’USB\“Entry“ for serial communication.
Therefore, I would like to repeat sunseakers call for help... Could anyone tell me what the contents of that entry is supposed to be?
Thanks for any help!
...i don't know if this will work for you, but i attached mine usbreg...
Thanks Krinkie.
ActiveSync must be one of the most frustrating applications out there. I have tried all recommended fixes and still cannot get ActiveSync to recognize my MDA. The last time I did a sync was 9/06. Too much BS using this application. I have searched all over the web and cannot find any application that will allow me to update my PIM file without ActiveSync. So, I guess I will finally give up on this. Thanks to all of you who have tried to help me. Thank You!!
I've been trying for days to connect to my laptop and the file above 'rndis to serial' finally did the trick... I'd read elsewhere about turning off your firewall etc, in the end I'd uninstalled all my firewall, anti spyware and antivirus programs...
Thank god for everyone here at XDA-developers... there wasn't anything useful on the Microsoft site.

AMEO with MissingSync (Mac)

If you want to sync your Ameo with your Mac then you will find it won't with the current version of MissingSync
However, conbrio, over on the MissingSync forum, has a found a solution...
http://forums.markspace.com/viewtopic.php?p=6318#6318
I used the PalmSolo download and it works fine apart from file sync is a bit slow (Syncing to Storage Card and not MicrosDrive - MissingSync does not seem to see the MicroDrive??) Could just be the cheap 2GB MiniSD card though And you have to re-run the software when you soft-reboot and set the sync back to serial. Maybe worth putting a link in your startup?
Hope this helps,
Russ
There is another way to sync your Ameo with your Mac via Missing Sync. This way does not require any other software. It also keeps the setting changes after soft resets and seems more reliable.
If you use WisBar or something similiar it is probably best to exit it, otherwise you cannot get to this screen - a possible WisBar bug?
1. From the menu go 'Settings' / 'Connections' / 'USB to PC'
2. Uncheck the tick box 'Enable advanced network functionality'
3. Probably best to re-boot you Mac and soft reset your Pocket PC and check this tick box is still unchecked (unticked).
4. Then plug-in and away you go. It seems to be a lot more releiable than the previous method. I'm using the latest beta of MissingSync.
Hope this helps fellow Mac bods out there...
Russ
p.s. file sync is still very slow - but hey - too much funkiness is probably not a good thing.

if you don't have sd, see the microdrive very well
I am using MissingSync and bluetooth and it works almost flawlessly. I can sync everything and I can even use the internet sharing capabilities of my Ameo. The only issue I have is transferring large files over to the device. This issue is a known bug and will hopefully be fixed with the next release.
I can really recommend this product to every Mac user!

how to start a program on a PC from the PDA

Hi,
I need to start a program on my PC from my XDA (connected by ActiveSync 4.5). I'm running Windows Mobile 5. How could this be done?
Regards, Gerrit
therminal services
and vnc
are 2 ways to do it
I don't want to see the PC's screen on my PDA (will be very slow anyway). I just need to be able to start a program (for example "notepad.exe") on the PC. I don't have to see the program on my PDA. It just has to run on the PC. That's all!
Regards, Gerrit
I think it is only possible to start an application on the device
from desktop with RAPI. The other way is not possible with
ActiveSync. You can write your own server that runs on the desktop
and a client on the ppc. Then send commands from pda client
to the server that starts then your application.
Houser
Hello Hauser,
Problem is that the command has to be possible both with ActiveSync (cable) and when syncing with GPRS/UMTS (wireless). Could this be done with RAPI?
Regards, Gerrit
If you use GPRS then you cannot use ActiveSync.
ActiveSync is only possible if you connect via USB.
RAPI can only be used from a desktop application to communicate with
the pocket pc, copy files, start applications on the PPC,...
So what do you want to do exactly with your app?
Houser
when connected to the pc using activesync or wifi or bluetooth PEN
make a normal network connection
and it should be transparent for the applications as they just see the connection
Hi Houser,
1. My PDA application exports lines from a PDA database to .CSV files.
2. On my PC I have to run an import & conversion program to load the exported lines into a server database
3. My PDA has to import other (new) files into the PDA's relational database
With USB syncing this works fine. I now have to run the PC's program manually. I want to control the whole process now from my PDA.
That's all...
Regards, Gerrit
If I remember right, a drive symbol is mounted on "My Computer" when Active Sync connects the device, right? So has anyone already tried to use an autorun enrty (autorun.inf like on CDs) on the PocketPC?

So ok.
I would do this as follows:
1) Write a desktop application that uses ActiveSync RAPI to start you PDA export application
2) Then in your desktop app use RAPI to copy the file from PDA to desktop
3) In your desktop app start the import & conversion program with the file from the pda
4) If you want to import a file to the PDA database you can copy with RAPI to pda and then start with RAPI the pda import application
So I would not go on searching how to start a app on desktop from pda. Let the desktop application handle it.
Houser
Hi,
Problem is that a technician on location (at a customer or at home) should be able to synchronise, without going to the office. In other words: the PDA is the device that starts the communication process, not the PC! This is also what is so problematic...
Regards, Gerrit
about autorun on the pda then i dont think it will work havent made the test
but modile devices like
gmail drive
digicams
and such dont get drive letters
and i think only devices which get drive letters can use
autostart because those other devices dont seem to be "really" connected untill one click on them
you could write a service for the pc which would be listening for a network connection from the pocketpc
you could make it so it would run any applications you told it
you could give it a parth and arguments
then as soon as you got a network connections by what ever means your pda could start sending commands to the pc which it would then execute as in start programs
of cause it does require you to code a bit of c++ or .net but not tooo complex stuff if one is a programmer
Two points:
The PDA is not mounted as a drive, ActiveSync controls all access to it (even though it is integrated in the explorer) so autorun.inf can not work.
Redugar is right, for you purpose - accessing the PC directly and by remote, you need a little server app on the PC. Just use windows sockets to listen to a connection.
On the PPC side you can use the constant ppp_pear when the device is synced to get the PC address and the regular IP (I assume you have a static IP) for access via GPRS.
I did something like this a couple of years back - a server on the PC that checks a page for updates and provides them to a device when it connects and asks for them.
salling software
You might want to look into this company http://www.salling.com/Clicker/windows/scripts.php
http://www.salling.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=15&sid=45e42aa57aeb994b7b02e8ab12dc1794
Their software controls programs such as PowerPoint, WMP etc, might be a script out there that you could modify to open any program. Connects via BT and WiFi. Works real nice with my wizard with my MCE Dell running Toshiba BT Software.

Yeah. Salling Clicker is a great software for starting or ending programs on your pc using bluetooth or wifi! the first time i installed the software,i was amazed and i played a prank on my sister.she thought that there was something wrong with the computer because it started itunes/powerdvd on its own... and i was in the other room controlling my pc..hahaha...
i've Been looking for a "script" that'll allow you to open any file/program (so are a lot of people who use salling clicker)..been following it up and As far as i know, there is still no Salling Clicker "script" that allows you to open any program on your pc.. you have to make a "script" specific to the program you want to start/control/stop.

What?
ActiveSync can work through Bluetooth or Infrared as well.
Also, why go through all of this trouble? Run an SSH server on the PC. SSH into the PC.
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator> start "C:\Program Files\My Program Path\My Program.exe"
Doesn't this do what you want?

Please help - My Mobiler and Wm5totage

Hi,
I am trying to stop using Active Sync, it seems to slow everything down tremendosly. I use My Mobiler connection via IP to run PIM on my desktop. I was looking for a way to sync files and seems wm5torage is the only application that would do it w/o AS present.
However, the moment I activate wm5torage My Mobiler loses connection. It seems wm5torage re-sets device's IP address to 0.0.0 "dummy" address. I was trying to set it back to no avail. If I de-activate wm5torage I can connect again.
So,
1) is there a way to have both programs running simultaneously ?
2) if not is there a file syncing application that doesn't need AS ?
Thanks !
I use TotalCommander and if memory serves me I have added a plugin which let the PPC show up in the network page of TC. Maybe you can also use TC on the PPC and make a wireless network connection.
i ever used wm5torage but it also didnt work, softick card export is better
try
You cant use booth programs at the same time.
Cause WM5Storage activates PDA in USB mode and simulates pendrive storage.
It disabling the connection with activesync and other programs to sync/connecting with PC.
Cheers,
Chris
Thanks all who replied.
I ended up figuring out how to connect SOTI Pocket Controller, which I also own, in TCP/IP mode - something I wasn't able to do before. So I am using its sync manager to sync files, for now (although I don't like it nearly as much as MobSync so I may end up re-enabling AS just for that).
I am using the my mobiler apps to control the phone via computer..however The gprs connection will be disconnected everytime i plug the cable data...
can anyone provide me with some help pls?

Please help! Unable to sync!

Hi everyone! When I connected my jade to my pc via usb, i got the usual screen asking me how i want to connect to the pc. Through activesync, internet sharing or disk drive. I chose internet sharing the last time to try this function out. However, the next time i connected via usb, the selection screen did not come out and it automatically went to internet sharing. Each time i connect via usb, this is what happens! Furthermore, i am now unable to sync! I tried going to activesync and pressing sync but to no avail! Could somebody help me please?!? Thank you in advance!!!
Try this...
1) Without connecting to PC.. on PC open ActiveSync. Select File - Delete Mobile Device - Confirm deletion.
2) On Jade, open active sync - options - delete all data
3) Now connect usb and configure connection again.
Hope that works.
Or on your Jade:
Click Start>Settings>Connections>USB to PC...
Make sure that the checkbox at the bottom of the screen is checked.. That way it will always ask you what mode you want when connecting the device to USB...
HTH!

Thanks izzyzc but it was checked at the time that's why i was puzzled as to when i connected it would go straight to the internet sharing screen instead of giving me a choice.

Have similar problem
Trying to transfer contacts from Outlook 2007 to Contacts in JADE Clone, it synchronizes all data except contacts what is a bit annoying.
Tried to do all mentioned above but no success.
Every time after opening ActiveSync settings, contacts are grey and impossible to mark them for Sync.
Could anybody advice pls?
Type approx 400 contacts again is nightmare.
Thanx

Sometimes it's defaulted to "sync with PC". In Options, try uncheck that on PC contact folders, then check on server contact folders.
I have tried it, but no success.
Later on found (thanx to Google ) and installed Chapura Pocket Mirror Professional 1.0 trial and it went through and whole Outlook has been synchronized.
Now I works even w/o Chapura Pocket Mirror.
