Its a major improvement over the Standard windows mobile home screen and gives an easier to use interface with your finger.
No ROM cooking involved just install over the top of windows mobile 5 or 6. Its kinda like an improved today screen.
I downloaded it today and I have to say its made me alot happier using the phone without a stylus.
It has just been released and is free to use on any windows mobile device.

Shame it doesnt support true vga 96 dpi......however its really nice looking and i like imput/design ui a lot, wallpaper and color scheme should be user defined.
it does work in 96dpi, kind of, I think we need to resize one or two of the backgrounds to make it work well.
not gone through the jif files yet, I'm presuming it'll be one of those.
they got a fix for that now, a temporary one on their website

I have installed this application but I didn't really like it the way I was expecting it to perform. The problem is, I can't get rid of it now. I have removed the program from remove program but it still shows the 'Home' option on the task bar.
Can anyone help me to remove this program?

Go into the program - run 'Update' and one of the options is to remove. Arse about face I know but...

I am usining it on 128 and 96 dpi
Works fine but when putting in pin for fone the buttons have all tobe touched to see them and then use clear and then enter the pin as u can now see the buutons ???
Any way to fix this ???

Hi All, yesterday i install xp on my GF's eee900 using nLite, it's very fast and i am so impress. Now that is done and running super fast, i wonder if i could do the same for my shift, by using vLite to create a strip down version of vista and intall it from an external DVD drive.
Tne problem i could think of is drivers, do wehave the complete list of drives for vista? if so, i think it will be very possible, you get to disable all the service and microsoft cr*p that you don't want, which will speed up Shift a lot.
Let me know what you guys think.
I think the more techno savvy of this forum are working on this amongst other things. If HTC was to provide drivers for the hardware it would help, a lot...

After mounting the XVISTA.WIM inside the recovery partition, I can safely say, Vlite will not work with Shifts Vista.
However, I am currently working on a solution.
I will use a normal Vista Business to create a lite version of Vista and slipstream it into the recovery partition. I hope to shave off a few GB and get some resources free.
But it will take me a few days to get that done. Will keep you updated.

Do not expect this kit to do anything normally expected of a PC or good laptop, it is a slow UMPC as nothing better exists YET!!!!
I used to see this of people expecting to see a TyTynII act as a laptop!!
Please read the specs of the device and hope for a little more from XDA devs, but not miracles out of the box!!

of course, on win xp made using nlite, with carefull a codec and player selection. there are some of us that would try to get every mhz out of that processor, just for fun and proofs of concepts.
if it were possible i would put win98 on it, and have a boot time of 20sec . It would still offer more then a windows mobile environment.
its more about the size of the Vista installation.
Its easier for me to modify Vista then getting XP to work on this.
Besides, whats wrong with freeing up resources...doesnt cost anything and makes it more responsive.
so far, it runs really nice and quick.
Can even play some stuff on it (Ground Control)
anyway...as soon as its done, I will post the download link

I have the HTC Shift and i really love the on screen keyboard and the possibility, to scroll the internet explorer with the finger like on pda phones with the opera mini, f.e.
Now I have a touchscreen on my HTPC and I am thinking, if it is possible, to do the same trick on this pc! Does somebody know, which software do I have to install?

You need a version of Vista that comes with Tablet PC software add ons.
I don't know if there is a way to get this for Vista Premium. I would like to get it for my laptop as the on-screen keyboard of Tablet PC is superiour when it comes to multiple languages.

Thanks, but I am searching for that one, I use on the HTC Shift. It is not the windows keyboard, that is too small and not so good. I don`t think, that it has to do with the windows version, cause now I have on the Shift Windows 7 Ultimate and if I am not wrong, it was to see on the screen after I installed all of the drivers form the HTC Homepage for the Shift. So I think, one of these software/driver ist it.
Anybody knows it more specific?

Vista Ultimate comes with all Tablet Functionality. And the installation should have recognized your touch screen and installed all the necessary drivers for it. Open your device manager and see what it says and fix the necessary drivers if it is giving a warning.

and by the way, IE7 and above support the hand tool (grab and drag or scroll)
For me when i use the firefox , i have added on grab and scroll into it , i therefore can scroll up n down with my stylus anywhere besides the scroll bar

I need to know which OS will run the smoothest. (Videos, gaming, not freezing up, etc.).

Choose windows 7, Windows xp just doesn't bring what you want due to the lack of good touch input, windows vista is slow. Windows 7 and XP performance are almost the same..
Messing around a bit 7 is best. 8 is beta and weird, XP is old and out of date for touch and such, Vista is a lost cause.
I got a 2gb RAM module for $95 off ebay by trading in my 1gb module. Shop around, you can find great deals.
Soon I am going to load Ubuntu 12.04 on it, I think in the long run of things it might work best, I'll post my findings.

It was a pack I found here on XDA. It's too bad... 99% of the links for the HTC Shift Drivers are all bad.

The WM side stays, its a hardware VM. I dont have time to jack with mine but I will post up a good updated write up with all my findings next week on windows 7 and WM 6.

Don't download, Just download the official "Vista" drivers from the HTC Site, and then search for the instructions "how to install windows 7 HTC Shift" you'll get a topic with all the steps you should take. But you do have to download a new wlan driver.

I think its not worth it, since it only has a 800 mhz processor.. You won't really benefit of 2 gb.
I find windows 8 very good, and very snappy. Try it! Its very nice on the huge touch screen.

I like the speed and quickness on windows 8. If you disable windows defender and file indexing (search), it runs very quickly. I use the stardock windows 8 menu as well. Has anyone gotten the WM side to be recognized on Windows 8. I was able to get it working on Vista and Windows 7 but having trouble with 8. Anyone have any good incite?
Does anybody know if it is still possible to download the Developer Preview of Windows 8? Microsoft only has links to the Consumer Preview. (Will this still work via the installation guide found here?)
I just ordered a Shift from the 1saleaday/Ben's Outlet for $199. Eagerly awaiting my new gadget!
Success, With a little work you can get the WM part to be visible in Windows 8 and can transfer files.
Once you use the usbtool, on the windows side you might need to repair the network connection (leave wifi off) and it works.
You can also use the SIM card to surf with windows 8 as well.

1. Not a guarantee, but splitting apps should work - however useless that feature is.
2. Secure boot blocks anything besides Windows from booting up, which is helpful to almost all Windows users, but probably not xda members.
3. Don't do the upgrade. People have had so many problems with it that it is much better to dual boot imo.
4. iTunes - not sure but probably, seeing as it is just a music application and doesn't direcly interface with hardware

6. I would say that a proper trackpad is ergonomically superior to a touchscreen. Sure it's a little more awkward but you don't have to lift your hand up to it. When I upgraded to 8 my two finger scrolling became almost as smooth as it is on Mac. The only inconvenient part about not having a touchscreen (imo) is having to drag the mouse from the top of the screen to the bottom in order to close apps, but it is way easier to just alt + f4 it.
But if you are like me you won't even touch Metro apps. My start screen consists of my desktop apps and shortcuts to various folders. It retains all of the functionality of the old start menu. Just stuff has been moved around that's all. You can still hit windows (or click start) and start typing away. But now if you want to click on something to open it you have the whole screen available, and you can pick which programs are on there, instead of just your most recent ones.

Why shouldn't it be able to run Windows 8 in full, since it more than passes the minimum system requirements? Will the performance of my laptop improve or become worse than with Windows 7? I really would like for Hamachi to work, so if anybody knows please leave a message. What is the point of dual-booting? I really do just want to upgrade. What problems are there with that?

If something goes wrong, you still have your old os. Also upgrading windows is generally a bad idea because of all the problems it causes. If you wanted to upgrade I would back up everything to an external drive and format it.

I will likely still keep Windows 7 then, if upgrading is that risky. I cannot be bothered to reinstall everything or transfer all my files. My laptop is really important for my education and also just in my daily life. I don't want any risk to it. Thanks for the help though...

It will take me hours to reinstall all my games and software, especially since I can't even remember where I put the discs for some of them any more. Not worth it.
