Hi...
I read through the posts, noticing others were having similar issues, without anyone giving a clue of what is going on...
All of a sudden, this morning (while a colleague of mine tried the device) the touch screen stopped working. I couldn't do anyhting involving the touch screen...
I reset (soft) it, which didn't resolve the issue, and did a full hard reset, which got me the 'tap the screen to start configuring windows now' but didn't allow me to do anything else...
I cleaned, using a small soft piece of paper, the space between the screen and its cover.
Is there any way to check what is wrong? Any thing to try, to do, ... to see if the touchscreen can be brought to life again?
How can I open the device easily, to check if the connecting cables are still in place, and what cable should I look for?
Thanks for the help...
Dying to get Linux on this one :d:d
Found it, issue resolved!
Got a torx T6 screwdriver, removed the bottom lid. Removed the tape covering the lcd and touchscreen cable/plugs. I popped the connectors out, and put them back in firmly, and reset the bottom lid, screws, battery, battery cover and started up the machine, and the touchscreen was working again!
Thanks anyway...

Hi,
try to clean board with isopropyl alcohol or in ultrasonic cleaner. Maybe it can help you.

Is it really dry? It can take some time...

Replace the battery
I had the same problem after my mda ii went through the washing machine. Replacing the battery fixed the problem.
thanks guys for the replies , further my XDA had been properly dried and cleaned but now the problem is that the machine doesnt operate further than the "ALIGN SCREEN" setup where one has to tap the screen at four corners and the center one I tap the screen i return to the same screen as ask to tap the screen again.
Will flashing the rom serve any purpose or is it aa hardware problem, rest of the device seem to be ok even the bluetooth light flashes when i turn the XDA ok. But not able to get i any further from there.
So what do the experts have to say, Please reply.
thanks again
well, mine had very hot coffee poured all over it.
my suggestion to you would be, dont turn it on or place the battery for at least 3 days if under normal drying conditions only.
or if you know how to take it apart, spray everything with contact cleaner, it will dry up immediately,
then cross your fingers and hope nothing shorted out when it first went inot the water.
strategy is - wait - dry- wait - test - dry some more - spray contact cleaner - dry - test - until such time it works. coz some moisture might still be present and causing a little bit of short circuit.
It sounds more of a hardware issue than a software issue and you may have to take is apart to fix it.
Try two things, Number 1: (You need to use some latex or vinyl gloves if you need to take your unit apart). You are going to need to check your digitizer connection to the motherbaord, make sure you don't have any mosture trapped in the ribbon lock and make sure the entire front part of the digitizer is flush against the inside case edge. Number 2: Have you seperated the digitizer from the LCD yet? If this thing was in water the slightest spot of moisture will disrupt the very small electrical field between the digitizer and the LCD that recognizes the stylus taps. Abosolutly nothing should be present between the two and also around the white or grey strip on the inside of the digitizer for it is also a contact strip. You can use a lens cleaning cloth to clean any dust and moisture from the inside of the digitizer before you put it back together with the LCD. Being I worked on about 150 toshiba e750's that suffered sprinker damage in a fire, I learned quite bit on what makes a Pocket PC tick. Good luck with getting it working.
the same
I had the same problem 3 or 4 years ago with a HP Jornada 680 (handledPC). I must unfortunately say that I could never get my touchscreen working back again. Perhaps if you could change your screen for a new one, or at least one that always worked (some are sold around the www, even a few by members here if i remember).
Good luck
Shane
the stylus is working as the sceen responds to the tabs, but the process of calibarating the screen doesnt finish and keeps on repeating. and it asks to align the screen again.
The digitiser is working but the software doesnt seem to be working...
what do you have to say?
and thanks for the reply
guys thanks for the reply
but no luck... is there any sofware that can check if the components are working and ok, or simply what should i do. The info about the problem in a nut shell is
First the loading happpens with the O2 screen then the "Windows mobile screen says Tap the screen to setup the pocket pc" Then when i tap the screen next screen comes saying "ALIGN SCREEN" with a crosshair in the middle of the screen when i tap it with the stylus it moves till all four corners are tapped which crosshair point to. But now the problem begins.
The same screen repeats and asks for the same procedure again and again and again And the Xda processing doesnt move further.
i even flashed the ROM but same thing........
no luck
HELLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPP!!!!!!
REPLACE THE BATTERY
Have you bought a new battery yet?
Like I said above, my MDAII went through the wash. Just like you, i got the align screen process followed by a spontaneous hard reset. I bought a new battery, charged it up in the cradle overnight, then popped it into my machine. Good as new.
Don't mess with the software until you try a brand new battery.
Cheap and effective.
Hmm, the touch screen is responding to taps, but maybe its a bit 'offset'.. I mean maybe when you tap exactly center, it will receive your tap to be a lot more offset to right, left, up or, down.. Cos that's what making the 'align screen' asks you to realign again and again..
Hi Tanvir,
I want some of the others to advise on what I am suggeting. On my xda I ( which I own as well as a Blue Angel) we are able to put it into boot mode and press the "action" or was it the "contact" button to get it into test mode. Being I don't own a Himalaya but I would guess that they would have that function too, and in that function it has a test for the aligment screen which it might be able to align in the test mode away from the OS running. If someone has the tip for helping Tanvir of getting his unit in to test mode, Please someone post it for him. Also being I don't own the XDA 2 if anyone has anything to add on my suggestions, the floor is open. let me know how it's going Tanvir. Cheers.
Shane
I'm sure Tanvir's digitizer is no more...
Go to www.ppctechs.com and purchase a new one... not that expensive!
Good luck!

Hi shane,
thanks for the help and time i ll try the process u suggested and lets see what happens, i ll inform you if any luck,
An thanks to all the guys for helping,
Thanks

hi jamil
ive guessed that posibility too, but the question is there is no way to fid out if it s he reason...
thanks

The screen on my xda exec stopped responding to taps. It seems that the touch screen ability is gone. I can use the keyboard fine and I've done a hard reset. Does anybody have any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks.
I had the same problem, send it for repair. And the same problem reappeared 2 weeks later.
So I tried to find out what the problem was and thanks to this post I solved the problem;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=979487&postcount=10
It's not really that weird: If some dust, or something equally small gets between the screen and the plastic frame, it can put enough pressure on the screen, and so the touch screen takes it as a constant (or intermitent) input, invalidating any other action on the rest of the screen.
And this is exactly what happens, try to clean with a thin paper between the plastic frame and the screen.
It solved all my problems, now every once in a while I get the problem and once cleaned it works again perfectly.

Thanks. I'll try that. Fingers crossed!
The cleaning did not cure it. Took it to a repair shop. They said the LCD and touch screen are fine. When he tinkered with the flex cable (disconnect and reconnect), it will work for a few minutes and stop. Does anybody know where I can get this specific part? Is it really the cause of the problem?
I'm sorta new and not exactly sure how to submit questions.
I installed the SPB mobile shell on my elfin htc and now the touch features don't work and my phone won't sleep without what appears to be the backlight on. Can someone provide some directions on how to fix this? Can't get to the bootloader either.
if you reset your device, can't it boot up into windows mobile?
if it boots up, why not connect it to the pc and try removing the last app through activesync?
if there isn't anything that important on the device, did you think of a hard reset?
Thanks for the quick response, however, I did do a soft reset, the screen is not responding (completely frozen). I've already removed the program, I thought was the culprit (spb mobile shell). I did a backup, but without touch features, I can't restore backup. I can't do a hard reset that's not working properly either. Any additional ideas, I'm at a complete lost.
Hi
Touchscreen of my HTC Touch (P3452) stopped working. I tired following:
- hard reset
- hard reset successful, then It asked me to tap the screen for alignment then I tap, it worked but on Calibrate screen where you align your screen touch is not working. nothing is happening after that even power button is not working. my Touch is not hanged coz if I touch the screen after It goes to sleep, the backlight will turn on.
So I though may be something wrong with the original ROM, then I tired flashing it with cooked ROM's but nothing worked.
I am still stuck at calibiration screen
-
Plz help, I miss my HTC Touch (P3452) so much!!!
If your touchscreen is not working, there could be only 2 solutions.
- Get a digitizer off dealextreme.com
- Hard reset device.
my $0.02.
Cheers.
What's a digitzer and what does it do? I've looked in cell phone accessories and did a search on dealextreme.com, however, unable to locate such an item. Can you provide a little more detail. Desperately trying to get this phone to work and right now this appears to be the only solution. Hard reset isn't working.

Come on, Google man!
http://www.dealextreme.com/products.dx/category.506~search.htc touch digitizer
Digitizer is a 'panel' which is above the LCD, which senses where your hand is at on the phone.
Something like this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphics_tablet
It is just something which sense where is your fingers are in the touchscreen.
Hi toot-b:
I had a similar problem a few days ago. My screen stopped working completely. I gave it a few taps and a squeeze and it started working.
After a while it stopped working again and did not respond to the squeezing too. Then out of desperation, I tried searching the internet. One guy had given the most idiotic explanation I've ever come across.
He had advised to take a blade and peel away the LCD screen and after taking the screen away, to rub the copper contacts with the blade and then putting it back in!!!
Well, I was really really desperate and I had to try it. I didn't remove the screen completely. I just took the screen off a wee little bit on the bottom right corner near the camera button. I kinda got scared after that and put it back in.
To my surprise, the touch screen started working perfectly and till now its doing great. Try it at your own risk. All the best!!!!

No amount of recalibration would correct my bad battery so I replaced the battery in my Nexus 10 (running lollypop). It was a complete pain to get the thing apart but it wasn't all that complex. I wanted to test it with the back off but the new battery was dead and I figured, “what could I possibly have done wrong anyhow” so I put it all together and charged it. I found out what I could do wrong. Now that I have it back together and fully charged the touch screen doesn't respond hardly at all. Everything else seems fine. I can boot to Android, boot to recovery etc... Like I mentioned above, taking it apart is a PITA and I'd like to only do it one more time and forever be done. I am guessing one of the 3 ribbon cables over the battery is for the touch screen. I'd like to only fiddle with the right cable only. Does anyone know which one specifically affects the screen?
Jerryp7
Did you find out what the problem was with you tablet. I have the same problem. I'm sure its the ribbon cables but I don't see anything out the ordinary. Thanks.
John R.
I had to open it back up (which is what I wanted to avoid because it was such a birch). Everything looked OK but I unplugged and replugged everything and it's been fine ever since. It had to have been one of the ribbon cables.
Replaced battery - now touch screen doesn't work right
Jerryp7
Thanks for the quick reply. I reopened the table and found the locking bar on one of the ribbon cables is broken. Any idea if they can be replaced?
Thanks again.
Regards,
John R.
Success!
Jerryp7
The clamp for the ribbon cable wasn't broken! The movable part had become detached. After many tries I figured how it went back together. I then found that it helps to hold the cable into the connector as you close the clamp.
Murphy's law rules again.
John R.
Glad you solved it. My only suggestion was to form a little plastic hold-down and super glue. If you ever had to do it again you could snip it off.
Jerry
The new battery still didn't correct the problem with the battery quitting at about 25% left. Do you know if there is any else I should try. I was in contact with Google before I replaced the battery and followed several procedures they suggested. Needless to say none of them worked. When I try to wipe the system cache partition I never get the screen that allows me to select the Recover mode. I get a screen with an arrow on the left that says "Start" and a droid in the center with the words "Downloading" under it. I let that run for over an hour but it didn't appear to do anything. If you have any suggestions I would appreciate them. Thanks.
John R.
Not sure. I'm not having any problems. Have you tried recalibrating the battery? I did that before replacing it which naturally didn't help a bad battery. Is you device rooted? I think it has to be to recalibrate. I use skipsoft unified android toolkit and have been for years. Last thing I did was upgraded to the OTA Build LMY49G which breaks root but the toolkit rooted it even thought Mark doesn't have the factory build availiable yet.
My connector broke when I was changing the battery. Anyone know how to fix it? There was little silver pins that came out. Thanks for help in advance.

For what it's worth... I had this same problem and was able to fix it fairly easily (if you don't count the PITA of opening the case again). The three cables have to be connected perfectly, which is why they are taped down. The one on the far right (if the device is oriented so the edge with the controls is on top) connects the LCD (it's labeled as such). I have lighted magnifying goggles that I use for many things. I carefully removed the tape (again), opened the locks (again), pulled out the cables, then pushed them gently back in, making sure they were in as far as they could go, all the way across (the goggles make all this very easy to see), and then closed the locks. I did this with all three ribbon cables. I then examined the tape for lint, cleaned off any dirt with 99% isopropyl alcohol and no-lint chamois swabs (just dab it lightly - don't remove all the glue), then pressed the tape down very firmly. When I closed the case again, all was well.
Opening the case isn't nearly as easy as those YouTube videos makes it look. But I'm so glad I did this. It's great to have a working battery again.
Next: Install Android 6!

I have the same problem, replaced the battery tried 2 different recalibrate apps, tried factory reset, cleared cache and battery shuts down at 20% with no warning.
It's the first cable if you have the camera facing upwards. There is the 2 cables that are together, it's the first of those cables that controls touch on the screen. Just make sure it's seated correctly, press down on it some and close the tab and tape it back in place. I know this because I ended up having to take the back off again while the tablet was powered on after I replaced my battery because the screen wasnt working. I checked each cable and that first one was the one that controlled touch. My Nex10 is working as smoothly as it did when I first got it.
Hi all. I replaced my battery, put the phone back together, and turned it on. Everything looked fine until I tried to use the touchscreen. It wouldn't register any touch. I figured I messed up the screen somehow when removing it, so I ordered a replacement screen - touch doesn't work with that either! Does anyone have a suggestion for what might be wrong?

Not to ask the stupid question...
Is the ribbon for the screen in the slot correctly? Seated all the way? Locked in place by that whatever the hell it is?
Thank you for your reply. Yes I have, it is screwed it and I've even tried pressing it down and touching it to see if it helps.

I have replaced the cracked screen on my PH-1 without issues... Since you are seeing the same problem with TWO different screens, I would check the connector on the board. Could be something like small piece of debris or dust or whatever. Remove the cable, and try inspecting it with a magnifying glass, if you can. Might be able to use a wooden toothpick to *carefully* clean it up, but I would only recommend that if you can actually see it well. You could also just blow a couple of shots of compressed air into it.
Other than that, I have no ideas, sorry...

might need a factory reset as this recilibrates the screen, back up ail your data first of course (pics, chats, game data etc). Not sure if recalibration apps still work, might be worth a shot first.
I had the same issue after replacing the screen. Someone on reddit mentioned the same problem and used a bit of foam behind the screen and its connection. I took a razor and trimmed a mm or two thick of some soft foam (used the foam that the screen was packaged in) and placed it over the connector. Touch was back after that, so it was an issue with the connection not being snug enough for me. Been over a month and everything is fine
