Hi,
Do you know any appl/method to control the "permanent" 3G/GPRS connection established in order to syncronize with Exchange server?
i have made some research but according to Microsoft it's "by design" still annoying and, in my opinion, accu consuming
On the Symbian platform (Nokia E61i) you control it through "mail for exchange" settings...
Do you want to turn off the 3G wile exchange server is running to save battery, or you want to control how often in connects?
HKLM\Comm\ ConnMgr\ Planner\Settings \ CacheTime
Put it on 120sec for 2 minutes idle or 60sec for 1 minute or........what you want

The second part: control over how often it connects...or better said I want to break the 3G/GPRS connection after every and each syncronisation

Thanks for your reply but it's not the solution; still after syncronising with exchange the connection remains on
try application : no data
Try NOGPRS (Click on the image to download it)
Hope it help.
Searching further I found a damn good appl written for Kaiser, the name is KaiserTweak, which answers my question with the following piece of code:
<title>Data (GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA/WIFI)</title>
- <tweak>
<title>Disconnect After</title>
<value default="default" disabled="disabled" value="600">Disabled</value>
<value value="10">10 seconds</value>
<value value="15">15 seconds</value>
<value value="30">30 seconds</value>
<value value="60" advised="advised">1 minute</value>
<value value="120">2 minutes</value>
<value value="300">5 minutes</value>
<value value="600">10 minutes</value>
<key mode="get" type="multistring" getvalue="GPRS_bye_if_device_off">HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\SuspendResume</key>
<key mode="set" type="multistring" setvalue="~GPRS!" when="disabled">HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\SuspendResume</key>
<key mode="set" type="multistring" setvalue="GPRS_bye_if_device_off" when="enabled">HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\SuspendResume</key>
<key>HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\CacheTime</key>
<description>Automatically disconnect cellular data connections after a time. Good for battery life, does not work with all software, MAY disable simul. voice & data connections.</description>
</tweak>
I wonder if this could be integrated in the "Schps AdvancedConfig" since it's been specifically written for Polaris...or someone with programming skills would build a cab or something ?
I have to say the KaiserTweak is just great but not all the keys applies to our modell
fortunately someone has already made it!!!!

Is there a way to turn GPRS off ? I tried registry tweaks but the GPRS off option will not stick for me everytime I reset and check it unchecked again.
A Shortcut or a simple app to turn off and on would be a godsend.
holding down the hang up button for awhile disable grps on at least himalaya
and there is a program which let you connect and disconnect in the same place you turn flight mode on and off
problem is this still allows gprs to connect when you use ie or sync email, I do not want it to connect auto to gprs unless I say so
then pick work rather then my isp under connections
I have a tmobile 'mda' in the us and I did a registry edit that made it so when i tap and hold the gprs icon at the top it has a timer and a disconnect button.
Add a 'Disconnect' button (and Timer) to the Connection List for GPRS
To add a Disconnect button:
HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\Flags2 = 8 (DWORD decimal)
To add a Disconnect button and a timer display showing how long GRPS is in use for the session:
HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\Flags2 = 16 (DWORD decimal)
To disable both the Disconnect button and the timer:
HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\Flags2 = 0 (DWORD decimal)
from this page: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WM5_Tweaks_Other
bendog that a very nice suggestion, thank you.
Lucky for me as part of the t-mobile uk phone you get sbp gprs monitor included, and this sits in the task bar and has a connect and disconnect button already.
Again it does help disable GPRS till I really want to use it.

Tried this also, it doesn't seem to care, it connects anyway whenever my email interval says so.
Is there any other APIs like connection manager,RAS to dis/establish GPRS on WM 2005?
this should do the trick
see:
http://www.gb-soft.cz/XDAII/product_gprs_tweak_en.htm
(haven't used it yet so no guarantee it works)
There is also a program called "NODATA" to disable (temporarily) GPRS...
Just need summat to log it now
try vjvolubilis. you can easily make shortcuts to toggle, bluetooth, wifi, gprs, audio, etc...
http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases:VJVolubilis
There you go.
NoData from Modaco. Does exactly what you want. Disables GPRS until you want to turn it on again. Overrides all programs that require access to the internet. Excellent for when you are on international roaming or when your battery is dying.

So far I've tried all these on my BA (XDA IIs) to no avail.
However, a rather dirty solution has been to set up a new 'dummy' modem connection dialling my own number or '0' and setting that as the default. I then need to change it back to the other settings to allow web access via the 'phone.
Would rather have a nice button though...
i was wondering if there is a software which would alert you of the number of hours the gprs has been running..an application perhaps that pops up in a certain period of time set. this could be very useful in limiting my monthly bills..
That´s exactly the name

Working with the RIL for Cell Tower IDs (Google Maps "My Location", PhoneAlarm, etc)
Ladies and Gents,
I'd like to try and understand a bit more about how the RIL handles Cell Tower IDs in Windows Mobile.
I have two WinMo 6.1 phones, 1 HP iPaq RW6828 (O2 Atom rebadge) and 1 HTC S710 (Vox) Smartphone.
The iPaq is using WM6.1 OS 5.2.19400 build 19400 from NHOCBANME
The S710 is using WM6.1 Standard 5.2.19195 build 19202 from Dr Martin Gonzo
The S710 fully supports both the Google Maps "My Location" feature and PhoneAlarm's Location-based profile switching, but the Atom does not support either.
I've partially figured out some of the the details to recognise the Cell IDs - I've managed to get PhoneAlarm to log the Cell Tower IDs and facilitate Location-based switching (yay!).
However it came at the cost of disabling all GSM Data connections. It would attempt a connection but then time-out after a few minutes without connecting.
So here's what I've been looking at:
MSDN: Radio Interface Layer
Particularly:
RIL Registry Settings
Specifically the "Packet" value:
The HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Cellular\RIL registry key configures the connection mode and number of concurrent connections used by Radio Interface Layer. The following table shows the named values.
Value:
Packet : REG_DWORD
Description:
Specifies the connection mode used by GPRS connections. When set to 0, a RAS-based connection is used. When set to a value greater than or equal to 1, NDIS GPRS is used.
By default, this registry key does not exist. To enable RIL NDIS packet APIs, this registry key must be [created manually or] added to Cellcore.reg.

By default in the iPaq the Packet key does not exist and the Contexts value is set to 2.
By comparison, the S710 has the Packet value set to 1 and Contexts set to 3.
Creating a Packet key and setting the value to 1 allows the PhoneAlarm location log to successfully log the Cell Tower IDs, however (as previously mentioned) the GPRS data connection fails to connect.
Setting the Packet value to 0 re-enables the data connection but disables the Cell Tower logging.
Chaning the iPaq Contexts value to 3 to match the S710 makes no difference either.
Does anyone have any further thoughts that may help get both Cell tower IDs and GPRS working together?
Many thanks
Tim

10x. i found on google a software named gb-soft tweak, designed for gprs/3g connection. i think is ok from now.
Hello, I have HTC Snap WM 6.5. Do you have experience with GPRS 1 Minute autodisconnect.cab? Works without problem? Thanks!
Yes, works I have install this cab.
Where is the Automatic Disconnet Cab???
You can just do the following regedits to achieve the same:
Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\
Change the entry "SuspendResume" Value from "~GRPS!" to "GPRS_bye_if_device_off"
Make sure the value of "CacheTime" is set to 60
This only works when there is no data being used, so if you have something running in the background like an IMAP IDLE client for browser it will probably now allow the timer to reach zero and shut off.
(Disregard Quotes, they are for visual exclusion not part of the actual entry.)
thx man
its work on omnia pro
useful trick

Is this the registry to let the phone disconnect the GPRS if not in use?
