Is there a way to turn GPRS off ? I tried registry tweaks but the GPRS off option will not stick for me everytime I reset and check it unchecked again.
A Shortcut or a simple app to turn off and on would be a godsend.
holding down the hang up button for awhile disable grps on at least himalaya
and there is a program which let you connect and disconnect in the same place you turn flight mode on and off
problem is this still allows gprs to connect when you use ie or sync email, I do not want it to connect auto to gprs unless I say so
then pick work rather then my isp under connections
I have a tmobile 'mda' in the us and I did a registry edit that made it so when i tap and hold the gprs icon at the top it has a timer and a disconnect button.
Add a 'Disconnect' button (and Timer) to the Connection List for GPRS
To add a Disconnect button:
HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\Flags2 = 8 (DWORD decimal)
To add a Disconnect button and a timer display showing how long GRPS is in use for the session:
HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\Flags2 = 16 (DWORD decimal)
To disable both the Disconnect button and the timer:
HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\Flags2 = 0 (DWORD decimal)
from this page: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WM5_Tweaks_Other
bendog that a very nice suggestion, thank you.
Lucky for me as part of the t-mobile uk phone you get sbp gprs monitor included, and this sits in the task bar and has a connect and disconnect button already.
Again it does help disable GPRS till I really want to use it.

Tried this also, it doesn't seem to care, it connects anyway whenever my email interval says so.
Is there any other APIs like connection manager,RAS to dis/establish GPRS on WM 2005?
this should do the trick
see:
http://www.gb-soft.cz/XDAII/product_gprs_tweak_en.htm
(haven't used it yet so no guarantee it works)
There is also a program called "NODATA" to disable (temporarily) GPRS...
Just need summat to log it now
try vjvolubilis. you can easily make shortcuts to toggle, bluetooth, wifi, gprs, audio, etc...
http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases:VJVolubilis
There you go.
NoData from Modaco. Does exactly what you want. Disables GPRS until you want to turn it on again. Overrides all programs that require access to the internet. Excellent for when you are on international roaming or when your battery is dying.

So far I've tried all these on my BA (XDA IIs) to no avail.
However, a rather dirty solution has been to set up a new 'dummy' modem connection dialling my own number or '0' and setting that as the default. I then need to change it back to the other settings to allow web access via the 'phone.
Would rather have a nice button though...

Do you want to disable it permanently or just temporaly?
Permanently - Delete the GPRS settings from "Settings" > " Connections"
Temporaly - Hold 3 seconds of the "End Call" button.

about the permenantly part i really don't understand what you mean, i tried what i understood but no success..
about the temporarly part i tried that already but no changes
When you see the G symbol in a white square, GPRS is possible but not connected and therefore not consuming data. When you see a small G in a small white square, with two arrows beside it, GPRS is connected and can use little amounts of data to keep the connection alive. If you have a GPRS connection (little G, two arrows), press and hold the red button for 5 secs and the symbol will change to a large G in a white box. That means you have just dis-connected your GPRS connection. If you start MSN or IE, a connecton will be established and data will be sent, so it will cost you money. You will see the G symbol change then. So, if you see only a large G in white box, no worries, GPRS is disconnected. If you see small G with two arrows, press and hold red button till symbol changes to big G and connection is ended.
The permanent solution suggested above means that in the start-settings-connections-connections menu you empty one of the boxes in your accounts, e.g. the doamin name etc. In that way, your GPRS connection cannot make a connection because the right values are not there. Problem is: when you want to use GPRS, you will have to fill in the correct values again so you will have to know what to till in in what box. You can also delete the whole connection (e.g. T-Mobile GPRS or similar) to get rid of the account entirely.
You can also install this little freeware program, if you click on the GPRS symbol it gives you a disconnect button in the pop-up, making it possible to disconnect a connection (the symbol changes into a large G with white box).
Hope this helps.
Doesnt work on my Qtek 9100, no extra button after connect.
Sometimes ago I used SPB GPRS Monitor that have extra buttons to connect/disconnect.
be sure to soft reset after installing, worked on my Vario. Also, be sure to tick the appropriate boxes in the GB soft tweak CPl applet in start-settings-system.
Today another thread was posted that gave the reg edit for the disconnect button and connection timer, search for posts made today or yesterday. I'm sure you'll find the regedits in that post. it was in HLKM/Controlpanel/phone, make a Dword names Flags02 with hex value 10, if I'm correct. save and soft reset, button should be there. this gives you the button, but not the other GB options, which I find usefull as well.
OK... its a little easier than you all think.... go to settings / connections / create a new dummy dial out entry and set that to be default rather than Autopick....
It will never use GPRS again cos it cant dial out... you may get the odd message still though. Nowt you can do about that as thats down to the OS and software.
Terran
thanks very much for the app, works perfect 8)
thx guys it seems to be Ok now
all im seeing is ways to keep it connected, i checked wiki and there is only ways to keep gprs on!
I don't think there is a way to make it automatically disconnect after sending an MMS. The only ways I've seen require user intervention, eg a button press or screen tap...
Add a 'Disconnect' button (and Timer) to the Connection List for GPRS
To add a Disconnect button:
HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\Flags2 = 8 (DWORD decimal)
To add a Disconnect button and a timer display showing how long GRPS is in use for the session:
HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\Flags2 = 16 (DWORD decimal)
To disable both the Disconnect button and the timer:
HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\Flags2 = 0 (DWORD decimal)
Once you've done that, and soft reset etc, you can tap the G icon and press disconnect.
OR
Press and hold the red call-end hardware button for a few seconds and you'll see the GPRS icon change from connected to disconnected.
Check in MMS Settings->About if you are using ArcSoft MMS Composer. If so, go to HKLM\SOFTWARE\ArcSoft\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\UI registry key and check if integer parameter called AutoDisconnect is present and set to 1. I guess it is auto disconnect after sending/receiving MMS. I have it already delivered in Extended Rom cab file containing MMS settings from my operator.
im using the default poutlook.exe app for my MMS
in the qtek 9100 external rom, there is a cab file called "MP_MMSAutoDisconnect_060106.CAB" that does this.
hmm ill check that out then

i dled the 3 ext_rom files on ftp not seeing this file.. can u post?
here it is!
This .cab does exactly the same in registry
Anyway, thanks for it, may be helpful to fast re-enable auto disconnect after HR.
i have set 1 but it doen't work
Try this, worked for me

i forgot all bout that program i used it on my hp6515. thank you
I use many programs that require internet connection, but I want them to work auotmatically only with WiFi, and with gprs when I allow it. I don't want to delete my gprs connection or to disable it completely, just to be able to connect manually when i want to.
I found a .cab file in the Universal forum that does exactly what I want, but it doesn't work on the wizard (i've tried).
does anyone have a fix for that? I would be grateful...
edit: the link to the universal hack:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=257415
ok, my mistake....
It does work on the wizard, it just doesn't do what i want. this hack disables gprs auto reconnect after disconnection. I want total control over the gprs connection, meaning no program connects without my approval. any ideas?
You could try this with a MortScript. It would require a soft reset to change it, and then to change it back, but this could be done through the MortScript as well....
Good Luck!
p.s. This is what's in the universal hack:
HKCU\ControlPanel\PhoneExtendFunction\EnableCPHSONS = 1 (integer)
HKCU\ControlPanel\PhoneExtendFunction\NoGPRSAutoAttach = 1 (integer)
Any way to disable gprs in the handset. Some of my applications are using gprs for updating and my service provider is charging me like anything. I have wifi and want to use that alone for data... is there a setting somewhere which will help me in disabling GPRS
i tried the nodata ( nogprs) application but its not working for me
Gopu
Do you need GPRS at all? If not, go to Settings->Connections->Connections->Manage existing and delete everything.
Setting > Connection and select "my work network" as internet connection instead of your provider's one.
You can change it back anytime you need to really use GPRS

In the registry you’ve got the following key:
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections
Export this key to enable GPRS later on.
Go inside your data connections and you’ll find a key, “Enabled." This key has a value 1, change this for every connection to 0.
There, you're done.
You could try to go to the Comm Manager and disabling "Phone" and activating Wi-Fi.
Hope this helps!
Try the Moto Toggle Widget on the market. Requires root, but works
hello everyone,
I have a simple question, can i set my device to connect using wifi automatically when i run an internet application instead of going to the gprs, i tried to play with the connection setting but no luck.
regards
Hi!
I have managed this problem by defining double keypress to "backspace" key to turn bluetooth on/off and triple keypress to turn wifi on/off with AE Button Plus. Very handy tool! http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php
I had always assumed that any WiFi connection took automatic priority over GPRS?
On my HD and automatically :
- WiFi takes priority over GPRS/3G
- USB (ActivSync) takes priority over GPRS/3G and Wifi (which is automatically disabled, BTW)
- If neither USB nor WiFi are available, GPRS/3G is used.
Tested with IE, Opera, Mail and Weather.

First, do you get the wifi turned on automatically when you start ie or opera?
second, if yes, how did you manage to do that?

Here is how I configured (I'm translating from french, exact english terms might be a bit different) :
1. Parameters > tab "Connections" > Connections > tab "Advanced" > "Networks selection"
- In "Programs connecting automatically to Internet..." I've selected "Office network"
- IN "Programs connecting automatically to a private network ..." I've selected "OrangeWorld"
2. Parameters > tab "Connections" > WiFi > "Wireless networks" > tab "Network interface"
- In "My interface connects to" I've selected "Internet"

I turn the WiFi ON/OFF manually. (For power saving reasons, I don't want it to be ON when I can't use it)
Youc an also use MoDaCo NoData utility to explicitly disable GPRS and other mobile data connections.
You need to register to download.
Alternatively, Schaps Advanced Config V3.3 has the same disable in its advanced settings, but its buried a bit too deep in the menu's.
