Every time I start Garmin, it changes my xv6800's clock to 4pm. I thought I'd write a mortscript to check the time, start Garmin, then re-set the time to the correct time. Unfortunately, I didn't see a SetTime function in Mortscript. Does anyone know of another way to do this? (Or even better, why Garmin XT does this?) -Scott
There is a thread with almost the exact title floating around here
I have the same issue. It seems to only reset the clock/date when you don't have a gps fix within a few seconds. I use gps viewer to get a gps fix first and then open it and don't have any issues. I haven't found a better way yet.
It is an unfortunate reality of using Garmin Mobile XT
Finally fixed it!!!

I fixed mine!!!!
Just went into Start>Settings>Personal Tab>Phone>Time Zones Tab, and Un-Checked the "Auto change time zone and clock" box.
There is no problem for me because in my country (Costa Rica) we don't have time change due to change of season, it's always the same.
I don't know why MS put this option there. I think that the place it corresponds is in Time Settings or Regional Settings, but in Phone Options???
Still don't know why Garmin XT is the only one program that does this thing.
No more clock/date changes for me!!!
I hope this can solve the problem of many of you, since there isn't a reasonable solution yet.

I have tried both on my Sprint Mogul with dcd 3.26 and neither are working right. Both freeze up at the menu screen, whether simple or advanced, the next screen it locks.
I have 23.7M (or so) of free RAM after a soft reset. I've let it sit on that menu for 5 minutes straight, wondering if it were catching up. No good.
I have TomTom7, but I want something with text to speech support.
The first time you run Igo or Oncourse it goes thru your contact list and checks the address on all of them. If you have a very large contact list it could be causing it to act very slow. It only does this once, so after it finishes it won't do it again in the future.
You might also check your config file, I think it's called sys.txt, would have to search to verify, but it lists your com ports. If you have an invalid com port for your GPS it can lock up entirely. Find this file and change it to com 4 baud 4800 and then restart it, should work fine then.
Let me know if that doesn't work. I've started Igo with as little as 8mb free, it ran, tho not very well and crashed shortly afterwards, but with 23mb it should run very well. So I don't think it's a memory issue in your case.
BTC
groovy. I'll sys.txt it up and report back.
getting there.... trying different combinations of ... packages ... see what works and what doesnt.
Can you mix OnCourse with iGo?
As far as I know, OnCourse is just a licensed OEM of of Igo, I've heard that the maps, skins, themes, etc all work fine with both.
I personally haven't tried OnCourse because the word I heard was that it's a compressed .exe file which in turns requires more ram to uncompress and then run. There were several looking into uncompressing the exe file and running directly, but have not seen any confirmed threads that someone has it resolved.
BTC
yeah, im avoiding an actual install of oncourse... however, what I have, has some things in it that my igo doesnt have, as well as US poi's which my igo doesnt have. More experimenting tonight.
I too was having an issue with IGO8 not starting properly, I could enter the program but none of the icons would function.....well not really.....I would click settings and about 30 seconds later I would hear the click sound but IGO would stay at that screen and then about 1 minute later it would goto the settings screen.
After doing some research I did find that it was an issue that IGO had with
adding my contacts addresses(I'm guessing that this is a ram issue). Here is what I added to the sys.txt file to stop IGO from trying to add my contacts to its POI DB, disable_outlookpoi=1 needs to be added under [debug]. I'm pretty sure I found a sys.txt config on ppcgeeks in the vouge section.
I cannot get the TTS to work as it appears that our Titans don't have enough ram to allow all of the features of IGO to work.
I have installed DCD latest with a couple of programs installed i.e. MSVC, Oxios, DCD carrier cab(great work DCD, every rom he makes just keeps getting faster and allowing more ram to be utilized) at boot I have about 23-24mb available, when starting IGO and then minimizing IGO I have 1.3-1.4MB free ram. When trying to select the Susan TTS voice it immediately crashes with an out of memory error. I'm also using the full maps of North America, all the building files and the terrain file for USA as well. When I get a chance I'm going to try only my state and my states buildings and see if that frees up any additional ram for TTS.
Good luck
i have noticed that it wont run unless I prime the GPS, even with the [gps] code in the sys.txt

I have found the same thing, I've attached a .zip file that someone created that will give you a shortcut for astroGPS to prime the GPS and also start IGO8. You must have astroGPS installed but it works like a treat.
anyone figure out how to setup tts with any tweaks or removing some default programs for more ram? I installed dcd latest rom with nothing else but igo8 and still get that out of memory :/ Also i have igo running with no terrain and in 2d mode with no luck
So is anyone able to get Text to Speech (TTS) works on Titan?
Hello,
I have not been able to find anything about my problems in the search except for the GPSBot which I am currently trying.
I realized problems with simple GPS tracking with Ozi (Version2.19) and Tracky - both registered versions.
Actually I am not that sure anymore, how tracking with Ozi 2.19 has to be performed, because the new design is driving me crazy, but when I realize to do so, it continously stopps tracking without any information or actions from my side. Same with Tracky.
TT7 btw is working absolutely fine. No problems with lost signals or stopping the navigation.
I use Bepe 093.
Any other proposals for a good GPS-tracker (only) ? I would like to have my soaring logs saved somehow as GPX files for further use and to archive. Doesn't matter if Ozi, tracky, or whatever sw to get it.
Any ideas ?
thanks in advance
Best regards
Holger
I used a trial of GPS Tuner the other week which worked well, I tracked a hike up Great Gable in the Lake District, worked good. but I did loose GPS while it was in stand by once and after that I just kept checking it every 20 mins or so. Seemed ok after that. then Exported the track file straight into Google earth at home.
Lots of other usefull functions too, only thing I would say is that it is quite a comprehensive app and I ended up using 2 batteries, in 7 hours.
I am testing some other tracking programs at the moment which are just tracking only. so hopefully lighter on the battery. Reperion05 & WMMiniGPS not actually tracked a walk yet so no info on these yet.
Thanks M8
Thanks a lot for the hint. I will try these two, also.
I hope it works.
I found a feedback that WMMiniGPS on Diamond would not track altitude. For soaring of course thats mandatory information ...
As far as I have more experiments how these two work, I will give additional feedback.
Best regards
Holger
Your welcome bud, I hope you find something that works well for you, I will be looking into the altitude issue as when climing mountains it is also important. I really would like to use GPS Tuner again but think it may be too power hungary for the Diamond battery. I will know more when I have tested the other programs.
Try here http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-tag-gps.html
This is were I got the 2 free apps that I have yet to test.
Rich
So far no success
Hello,
I checked
Reperion05 - I cant get it to work
WMMiniGPS - seems to work without the height :-( ...
CHTi - not getting it saving in GPX or KML format, dont understand the SW
VisualGPSCE cant save GPX or KML
MapWelt (based on etk) - cant find diamond internal GPS
MapNav (Java) - does not look too bad, but no GPS found
TrekBuddy (Java) - does not look too bad, but no GPS found
Actually Tracky seems to work ok, with BotGPS, but its such an overkill and battery drain ....
A simple and small GPS tracker app would be great ... no fancy design, no maps, only GPS record setup (all X seconds or > xkmh, ...) GPS status, Start, Stop, and directory to save the GPX or KML files ....
I would do it myself if I could .... Is there a free Visual basic development environment for CE with an easy GPS interface ? then I would give it a try ...
Hi Holger,
I use NoniGPSPlot freeware on my Diamond. It works pretty well. To save power NoniGPSPlot provides the option to switch of the display (Options/Tools). If I also switch my phone to flight mode (phone off) the battery survives tracking for about 4h.
You find NoniGPSPlot here --> http://aeguerre.free.fr/Public/PocketPC/NoniGPSPlot/EN/index.php
I just got a Treo Pro recently and love it, but my only issue is getting the GPS to work. I've scoured the forum here but still couldn't get to work. Would like to fix or I'll have to return. Can anyone help?
I started up google maps, clicked "use GPS" but it consistenty reports that it can't find any satelites after several minutes outside. After reading through threads here, I've tried installing a few GPS tools such as GPSToday, GPS Viewer and HTC GPS Tool and none of these can find a satelite either even after a long wait with clear line of sight to the sky.
My settings are the defaults out the box and are as follows -
External GPS settings:
GPS program port: COM4
GPS hardare port: (none)
Baud rate: 4800
Windows Manage GPS automatically enabled
Google Maps GPS setting - Managed by Windows
Any help much appreciated.
problem with GPS
I remember reading somewhere in other forum that if your phone was from Egypt the GPS was disable from the registry and couldn't make it to work, because it's illegal or something like that.
The settings are correct, there should be on com4:com4.. although haven't check the bps on mine.. have you tried to change it to something else?
anyway here's a link where you can check if your gps is disabled in the registry of the phone...
http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=174029
you could probably check that out...
obviously modify your registry at your own risk...
hope it works...
I would google that GPS program called GPS Test. you should be able to find it right here. Use that program to see if your GPS is working correctly. Its as simple as runninig it when your outside. It will start picking up sats and give you a visual indication of how many and if they're locked on.
As long as I run Quick GPS (built into the treo) I can get a lock pretty quick, maybe 30 seconds or so. Its possible your gps could be defective.

Does running the "QuickGPS" program make any difference?
Quick GPS???
I just got a Treo Pro from Alltel and it didn't come with Quick GPS.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

GPS on Alltel Palm Treo Pro
There is not internal GPS on this phone with Alltel. You must have a Bluethooth GPS reciver and configure it in Settings/External GPS. This may be becauser thye want to have you use Alltel Navigation at $10 per month.

The alltel unit does have the GPS, it's just deactivated. They are trying to force you to use their paid application. I'm trying to figure out which registry keys need to be modified.
Can somebody dump their reg settings for an unlocked unit so we can compare?
Thanks!

Maybe that gui option modifies the registry entry ;P
Palm not initiating
I found this way works using one to initiate the GPS which my Palm doesn't seem to do and then run map software.

i just posted an explanation on treo central about how to add quick gps to the cdma (sprint, alltel, verizon) treo pro check it out http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?p=1670807#post1670807
I'll second jeremyspencer's link there. works like a champ on my Alltel Treo Pro.
Your settings are correct. My phone has similar problems unless I use the QuickGPS program. It will work without the QuickGPS but it can take up to an hour to get a fix. With Quick GPS it's about 2-5 minutes
Change registry value for the GPSLockWorkaround from 0 to 1 to enable the gps.
It can be found at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\PhoneExtendFunction\CDMA\GPSLockWorkaround
Hello
I'm looking for GPS application that will allow me to save to file (or sth) my current position as a GPS dump (the same as VisualGPSce does). I don't mean logging path I'm walking but one particular point.
Can anybody help?
Every moving-map software should be able to do this, it's just setting a waypoint to the current coords. I use Pathaway 5, but there should be free alternatives.
Thx for the answer.
Yes, I know that every navi application can do things like that (it's called POI), but I need something faster, simplier - run, mark (yeah yeah, GPS fix, I know), quit
Have you tried footprints?

We discussed before the clock issue in Android (where the clock always lagged).
In my FRX07, I enabled "use network provided time" and it seems to be okay.
What I noticed is that, every time I reboot the phone to Windows Mobile, the clock in Windows Mobile is messed up (not the minutes, but the hours).
Everytime I reboot to Windows Mobile, I would like to correct the hour in the clock.
Look around but I could not find how to enable the clock in WM to use the network provided time as well.
Any input/help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This is a WinMo issue, not an Android issue.
Android (and Linux/FreeBSD/every other OS) stores time in UTC, and then works backwards to your local time. WinMo (and Windows OS...) stores it in the local timezone only. So when you boot back to WinMo, it'll be exactly off by whatever offset you are from UTC.
To fix this, you need to resolve on the WinMo side. My phone always gets the time from the carrier - I'm a lucky CDMA user that always gets NITZ from my carrier .
If you're not so lucky and are on a GSM carrier that doesn't update your time properly, then you'll need to find some app in WinMo that keeps the clock synced. I can't help you here - again this is a WinMo problem, not Android!!. My solution for me is to just let the time update from my carrier. Again, if that does not work for you, find some atomic clock app or some such thing. Thanks!
Hi lie_ui,
I use the following trick to avoid the problem when I'm back to WM.
In Android, I set up the time manually and I select a time zone -2 hours.
For example if you are in GMT+5, setup Android manually in GMT+3. In this way you will have no problems.
To avoid the time lag, I use clocksync from the market, which works ok.
Thanks for the ideas! I will try it. Do mind explain to me where the -2 hours coming from? Just try to understand the logic. Thanks.

Re-read my post. He's trying to circumvent the UTC effect... So he's setting it 2hrs back to offset UTC for his timezone...
I don't want to use a wrong timezone and I'm on GSM so I use ClockSync to set the time correctly in Android but I haven't found a similar application to do the same in WinMo so I'm setting my time manually everytime I want to use WinMo, it really sucks. Does anyone know any application that will sync the time automatically via NTP on WinMo?

Can we add some command or setting in Android's "STARTUP.txt" to offset the time?
But it still don't solve the time problem if we boot back to WinMo.

It's really a WinMo issue. If your phone syncs its time with the carrier in WinMo, the problem is solved. I've never had this issue, but I guess my carrier always sends out NITZ so my time is always correct... love that CDMA .
Since it is a WinMo issue, you'll have to solve it with a WinMo app - find some atomic clock application for WinMo that automatically syncs the time in WinMo. ClockSync for Android, something similar for WinMo and you won't have the issue.
