Hi all,
I have an Elf, and use my phone "function" just for calls (no internet, no nothing else). Today I'm having some trouble connecting to my phone network, i.e. the device is "searching" now and then. Sometimes I can communicate, sometimes I can't. Sometimes I receive calls, sometimes I don't. This has never happen before! If I turn off the screen, the signal is just lost again!!!
Anyway, today I noticed that on top of the Today screen [Status Icons] there is a "G" [GPRS available] instead of the "E" [Edge]. The thing is that I never see the "G", but always the "E". Does this have to do something with what I am experiencing? How can I go back to the normal behaviour of "E"?
Sorry for my english. And thanks for any help.
hi gmorar, can you tell us more about it? what rom do you have?
maybe is just your carrier.
Saludos!
there are sometimes gaps in data coverage. Or possibly, your network is doing some work.
Thank you both for your answers. It must have been related to some work my network was doing. Today everything went back to normal .
Thanks again.

sometimes while speaking to someone the sound of the 8525 goes blank and i am unable to end the call and the timer keeps running till eventually it ends by itself usually a min or minute a half after. this occasionally happens also when the person on the other line ends their call.
help me!!
oh yeah, when it ends call, i lose service and i have to wait for the phone to pick up reception before i can call the person again
I am sure that one of the more experienced members may have a better idea, but I had this problem in low signal areas when I was on radio 1.34. It stopped happening when I upgraded to 1.38 and so far hasn't happened on 1.40.
Something to try anyway.
This happens to me quite frequently in my house!!
Next time this happens notice if the network indicator has dropped from U to G during your call. When it happens on my 8525, the call wont terminate. So many times while im in my house ill band tab switch to GSM just so it does not do this..
I had one go for 63 minutes in my pocket once... so i checked my usage, and it was only shown as the 2 minute call I actually had. So it did hang up from the network, but my phone was blissfully unaware. I'm not so sure however if someone else called it would have rung.
Hope this helps, let us know if it's changing from U to G !

Seems like you have the same issue I had at work, two low level signals and it hangs trying to switch between continually. Has upgrading the radio helped you at all, or was it just coincidence for me?
im currently on radio 1.38, maybe if i switch over to 1.40 ill see, but i will def keep tabs if the network goes from U to G.
thanks for the help guys i switched my network from "any" to "gsm" only, and so far so good, i guess the problem was when the network would switch over from gsm to wcdma im not totally sure. anyway i chose GSM as the network it should always be on, and the network indicator always has an E on the top. is it fine if i keep it at GSM or will i run into problems/ or not recieve full benefits of something? some1 please educate me thanks
I have had a wizard for about a month now with few issues. After the first couple days I settled on Jaguar 4.0 ROM, and it has been working great except for a few times when it freezes / won't let me unlock the screen to use it.
However, the past few days a big issue has come about. I can make calls easily, but I cannot receive them. People say it goes straight to my voicemail. My phone doesn't ring, doesn't tell me I have missed calls, doesn't tell me I have voicemail.
Last night I found one thing that may be part of the problem. On the top, it shows the network strength - this is always strong. To the left of that, it SHOULD show an 'E' symbol, possibly for the edge network (at&t) ? Anyways, I know the E is there when it works. I can also connect to internet via GPRS when this is there. Lately, that E symbol no longer shows up. Intead, it has a different symbol with an 'x' on it (two arrows in opposite directions with a small x). At first I thought this just meant I wasn't connected to the internet for data usage at that time, but I've learned that I cannot receive calls either. If I try to connect to the internet, it says connecting but never connects.
If I click around in the menus and connection menus, or reset the phone (sometimes), eventually I can get the 'E' to show again and the phone is working like it should (not sure how to actually get it back, but after clicking around in menus I can). However, it doesn't stay. It seems to stay on a few minutes, I think everything is ok, and then I look at my phone 30 minutes later and that symbol is gone, thus I am no longer receiving calls.
It's weird, because I can make calls easily regardless of the symbol there. I'm clearly connected to the network, have a signal, etc. I've checked flight mode, which is always off. I've checked settings and everything looks ok.
Any ideas on what is going on or how to fix this?
Edit: Note - Turning flight mode ON and then OFF seems to get the E back and the connection restored properly. I think the same happens by turning the phone OFF then ON. However, it only stays fixed temporarily (less than 30 minutes) and gives no notice the proper connection is lost. I just find out next time I look at the phone and see it's not working and find out I've missed important phone calls.
for some days now my phone is acting weird.
The sign in the corner for example saying "3G" sometimes changes into a G or E, what does that mean? which stands for what?
i think that causes my main problem: i cant recieve sms and sometimes calls from another country. calls sometimes work but sms- no chance.
Why does this happen and what can I do to fix this problem?
it stuck to "E" now and still no sms recieved.
i checked some settings and i switched GSM to GPRS somewhere but still the same

Hello Qabooz,
The signs mean 3G= you are connectted to UMTS line, G= you are GSM line, E= Edge line.
It changes when the power of signal change.
Can be possible that your line have international limitations?
regards
i was always able to recieve sms well until these signs started to change. since then i just wont get them. but if the signs represent the networks/operators "strength" it makes sense. since the sms comes from another coutry, with a lower signal strength of my phone it doesnt reach me.
ok this might cause the problem but how can i fix this`?
but thx for explanation of the signs

one of the several reasons.
The SMS is not dependent on the signal strength, be it at G, 3G, E or H. It's dependant on how fast the SMS server of each operator can despatch it to the user. Sometimes the SMS gets stuck in the sending operator's (of different network of different country) server.
but why did it change then all of a sudden when it was ok all the time
Hi everybody,
I have a really really strange and concerning issue with my brand new X1.
I had a HTC touch for more than a year, everything was fine - now with Xperia I immediately installed Touch-IT v9, works OK but very often (not checked if sometimes it does not happen) after finishing a call and pressing the "hook" button I can see in the top bar that for a few seconds (1-5) the signal is complete gone and like magic it comes back. I cannot believe that this should be normal with WinMobile, as the HTC Touch did not do anything similar like this. I'm forced to GSM/2G.
Please let me know if this is something specific to TouchIT, or Xperia issue, or just happens to my mobile? I'm little bit concerned as it is completely new and should not behave like this.
Best Regards, and thanks for feedback!
Norbert
Are you sure the signal actually is gone? It is probably the redetection of current data connection type as the bars up there actually indicate the coverage of the fastest available data connection type. Like having one or no bar for EDGE you actually have all the bars for GPRS. No need to go to 2G for that technical eccentricity.
Does anyone have similar experiences. Today i had the same problem when sending a SMS. Its no problem at all, only GPRS sign goes to unconnected and also the signal shows the "!" for 1-2 seconds.
Am I the only one having this experience?
Okay guys, so my phone is great!!! IM IN LOVE!! But here's the deal: Many times i wont receive 3G signal in places where 3G flourishes on other T-Mobile phones. I pull down my status bar and it says 3G T-Mobile, but the little bars show 5 bars and the little triangle antenna, not a 3G next to the bars. So, i go to my wireless settings. The button that turns Data Connection on/off is turned off. So i press the button, takes me to my settings add/remove/edit data connections. VERY FRUSTRATING. Then it randomly decides to work.
Also, whenever i try to view pictures, it gets slow and locks up the phone. Might this be cause by me having pictures from my G1 on my SD card? Idk different size, struggling to load them, etc.
Thanks in advance
Patrick
