sometimes while speaking to someone the sound of the 8525 goes blank and i am unable to end the call and the timer keeps running till eventually it ends by itself usually a min or minute a half after. this occasionally happens also when the person on the other line ends their call.
help me!!
oh yeah, when it ends call, i lose service and i have to wait for the phone to pick up reception before i can call the person again
I am sure that one of the more experienced members may have a better idea, but I had this problem in low signal areas when I was on radio 1.34. It stopped happening when I upgraded to 1.38 and so far hasn't happened on 1.40.
Something to try anyway.
This happens to me quite frequently in my house!!
Next time this happens notice if the network indicator has dropped from U to G during your call. When it happens on my 8525, the call wont terminate. So many times while im in my house ill band tab switch to GSM just so it does not do this..
I had one go for 63 minutes in my pocket once... so i checked my usage, and it was only shown as the 2 minute call I actually had. So it did hang up from the network, but my phone was blissfully unaware. I'm not so sure however if someone else called it would have rung.
Hope this helps, let us know if it's changing from U to G !

Seems like you have the same issue I had at work, two low level signals and it hangs trying to switch between continually. Has upgrading the radio helped you at all, or was it just coincidence for me?
im currently on radio 1.38, maybe if i switch over to 1.40 ill see, but i will def keep tabs if the network goes from U to G.
thanks for the help guys i switched my network from "any" to "gsm" only, and so far so good, i guess the problem was when the network would switch over from gsm to wcdma im not totally sure. anyway i chose GSM as the network it should always be on, and the network indicator always has an E on the top. is it fine if i keep it at GSM or will i run into problems/ or not recieve full benefits of something? some1 please educate me thanks

Hiya
I've been getting a lot more call drops than usual recently.
Trying to make a call, I get a long pause with nothing at all then 3 pips/beeps as it drops the call. It takes about 5-8 redials before I can get a line out.
There is no difference either if I do a soft reset Reluctant to do a hard reset but if I do I'll try and backup first.
Then there are incomming calls. It misses them, or there are times when people calling get a long tone but i see their number flash up and it just drops the call and I get a missed call alert. Calling them back gives me.... the three pips
I can't win. I've tried screaming abuse at the phone but strangely enough it has no affect
Seriously considering ringing Orange tomorrow to see if I can get a replacement... Grr.
Suggestions anyone??
Tia
Elwyn
Sounds like a network issue and is probably down to your local 3g cell (either being just too far away or having other problems). And yes you might have two bars or whatever on signal strength but 3g can be problematic like that.
Try settings, phone, band, and changing it from Auto to GSM. This will force your device to use gsm instead of 3g. If that improves things, try switching back in a day or two to see if they've fixed the cell.
I'm in the city centre almost and from my flat I can see at least 3 seperate towers. Of which i know 2 are Orange
Thank you for your suggestions, I will try that later.
This problem though doesn't just happen at home I think I'll have to dig deeper...
Ok, I've had an 8525 unlocked for about 3 months now... Unlocked and used on t-mobile's network...
Until recently, I've had 0 issues with my phone from what I can remember(now running PDAs v20 windows 6.1 rom)
My problem is, during the day, in my room I recieve any and every phone call that comes in, calls never drop or hang up, BUT the call seems to cut out for about 5-15 seconds and then cut back in.. even though it says I have 4 bars.. in my kitchen with 4 bars, I get all my phone calls, but can't hear people (nor can they hear me at all)... I get emails, and browse the web fine.. but can't use google maps app (can't find my location until I leave lol)
I don't know what's up... at night, when I'm in my room, my phone works fine with no cutting out and in during calls, but during the day, that's when it wants to act all crazy... other t-mobile phones work perfectly fine in my room... my old sidekick also worked fine..
when I'm anywhere else in my city, my phone works fine (even with 2 bars)
I know nothing about how cell phones work when communicating with cell towers so any help someone can give me will be very helpful as I do not want to catch an aneurism calling T-Mobile themselves for help (though I doubt they'll help me since I'm using an unlocked ATT phone on their service lol)
Also... sometimes txt messages come and give me a time like it's in another time-zone... usually this happens when I'm out of state roaming on a different network (Immix in central PA for the most part) but now it seems to be popping up even while I'm home in NY...
any ideas?
seems like some kind of interference near your home...could be a carrier tower or even your TV? You could check with tmob if others in the hood are having day issues...
not sure what radio version u have, but u could try flashing a different one...
I've tried numerous radio's but having the same issues... it's some kind of interference in my house I guess.. I just can't figure out what it is... I called up t-mobile and was embarassed when he said "oh u have an ATT phone" lol he told me to switch sim cards with someone else on t-mobile in my home to see what happened... but.. no progress... I unplugged my wifi router to see if that would help but it didn't
I just find it completely odd that my service craps out on me in my room ONLY during the day... and it never did this when I first got the phone.. I'm completely lost... good news is, it only happens in my house...
Could be someone close by has just invested in a piece of equipment that is causing interference.. Might not be just in your place...
yeah, another thing that MIGHT be causing the interference is that they have been doing a lot of road work in my area... that could also be why it happens during the day but not at night... my kitchen is a different story, but different radio's have gave me different reception... with some radio's... it fades out completely and with others it'll fade out for maybe a second or 2
or it could be my neighbor who recently had a stroke, I guess there might be some machines in there.. who knows
I tried the latest radio and it yielded the best results in my kitchen so far but man oh man does it burn battery when I'm on the phone
I'm having the same problem...well as far as the text msgs go so i called tmobile last night and they took me off the network and placed me back on and since then I havent had any problems
Update: I put my GF's att sim card in my phone and went to all my "dead spots"... even when the signal bars were down to almost 0, the quality of the call was still clear and it wouldn't fade in and out during a call... Does anyone know if there's anything T-Mobile can do? Because I tried my moms sim card in my phone (t-mobile) and gave me the same crappy results (calls fading in and out at full 4 bar signal)
Hey,
Has anyone else had problems with their HD suddenly cutting of calls even though there is good network coverage? I can have 5 bars of network on the phone, receive a phonecall, talk for a while, then suddenly have the bars drop to 0 and the call being ended. It's getting really annoying at this point.
Also I think the speed of the surfing through network (gprs/edge/hsdpa) has slowed down; it feels as if it doesn't really establish a great connection with the network.
Please tell me you've had this problem and that it's a software issue that is fixable!
Its your 3g network that is dropping calls. I have same problem.
Go to settings, phone and then choose the band tab. Change network from Auto to GSM.
Solves all problems.
I have poor 3g in my home. At home I use gsm mode and when i go back out i switch to auto - 3g mode.
Or it might be because of an old SIM card. If you had yours for a couple of years for example, it might be time to ask for a new one.
i've actually had my sim card for ages, gonna try to order a new one and see if that solves it, thanks for the tip
Let us know!
got the HD and it droped calls all the time. My SIM-card was 5 years old. after changing it worked a lot better but not 100%. Solved that after disabling 3g (bad 3g rec at home), now it works as it should no more dropped calls.
You know.. it would be ideal to have an app that could be assigned to a button press that switches the 3g on and off without needing to go into settings all the time.
I don't use the 3g stuff all that often (mostly wifi) and gsm is fine for sending texts and making calls. Not so sire about mms though.
To be alle to switch it on and off would be ideal and could be used in conjunction with other software to schedule locations or times that would auto switch.
Anyone know of any thing?
i have got the same problem. I have sent my hd to manufacture on warranty. I still waiting on my phone, i let you know what is going on when it will be back to me.
P.S.
sorry about my english
Desperate
Hello to all,
I am having completly same issue with my touch hd.
Expierincing line drops, other side hear me badly or not at all. I tried to update radio roms to 1.09.25.35 and 1.10.25.25 , but ittis the same. Also tried updating ROM to DUTTY HD 1.7.,but it was the same. My network is MTS in Serbia.
Than, I changed finding netwotk to manual, and type of band to GSM (900+1800) UMTS (2100), same result . It looks that this helps a litlle, since I expierence less drops, but I am still unavliable sometimes. Also since my gsm card is 7 years old, I was adviced to change it what I did as well.
This brought even more results, but today, after 5 days of good work in one place (with good reception of 3G) I travell to another city, and you may guess, It started happen again.
All the way phone was loosing signal, calls were droping or even I was unable to make any calls as well.
I am so desperate, and will have to return it to a dealer, although it was my last option...
My was the same problem but it was fix
After I installed couples of upgrade my HD from HTC website and I recieved too many drop call so I uninstalled all the Hot fix . Now every work back to the normal way
Tried that as well, made 2 times hard reset, but no help.
Anyway I had only ine hotfix installed the one for keyboard lag.
I had imprssion in the begining that my problems started with new connection manager database (hotfix that was automaticly installed), but after hard reset everything repeated, so that was not the case....
Same problem here! Total nightmare, is there any possible fix for this or is it just poor quality gsm bits in the phone? Mine picks up such lower signal than any other phone ive had

Ryanmt, It looks that GSM module sucks...Everything else is superb, but, after all this is a phone, isn't it?
I reversed to original ROM (403 WWE), and RADIO ROM (1.09.25.14), removed HardSPL, and now waiting for asome bright idea to try...
I give myself 7 days before waranty claim...
CORRECTION: I left mine HD for warantty today (11.02.), will report on...
Mine went back for warrenty also. Mine went back due to a faulty screen but i noted down it had major signal issues too.
Have you had any update?
I am still waiting for mine. Don't know how long usually takes. Any expiriences?

Im still waiting now is 24th day, but i had sent by carphonewarehouse next time i will send straitgh to htc because cpw is not good.
24 days !? OMG, I hope I won't be that luck. I gave mysef my HD directly to official distributor (same place wher I have bought it) here in Serbia, this is 5th day since I have left it...
HTC told me 5 days from when they receive it.
Sent mine away also
I was experiencing the same problems, even when I had signal it was impossible to call someone(not always but it happends sometimes) and for some reason my FM Radio wasn't working.. I'll try to keep you all informed, if it helped to sent it back to htc..
sounds like htc might be collecting a nice pile of phones with the same symptoms. I wonder if that will prompt them to release a fix of some sort
My sgs and gairlfriends has become a nightmare to make and receive call on both ocasionaly drop calls without loosing signal then if you try and ring the person back or anyone it takes forever to connect or jus doesent, if they try and call you back it wont let you pick up, oh and sometimes the call will stay connected but there is no sound. This all started to happen about three weeks afer we got our phones.
Iv tried flashing to jm2 but still getting same problem. And resetting phone when this all starts to happen most of the time dont help you just have to w8 4 it to stop.
Anyone got any ideas what this is or has anyone had same problem?
Which country are you from and which carrier are you using? Sounds like it might have something to do with the availability of good network protocol providers.
Were both orange uk. Signal is usually ok when this happens. Seems more like the phone itself as sometimes it wont even lef me answer the call.
Bump. .......
Try to contact your carrier's customer service. Chances are, they'll be of much more use than any of us here. Good luck.
Has it always been like this? Flashed a few roms and radios. But I think I never really thought about it or noticed it until now and it's really bugging me. I've read a few topics about 3g and 4g being "parallel" to our voice calls so we can't have both? I don't quite understand any of it.
Can someone tell me it's just my phone so I can try to solve the problem, or reassure me that we can't have both at the same time so I can sleep better tonight? lol
Thanks for any and all help!
Edit: Sorry meant to post this in the question thread.

ALL GSM phones that are connected to HSPA or greater should be able to talk and surf at the same time. I do it frequently personally. Do you know if you drop to EDGE/GRPS when you get on a phone call?
I am also having this issue but its strange that the guy posting above me does not face this issue - may be it is a hardware issue like screen and emmc since I already tried different roms and radios?. As soon as I am in a call I am disconnected from network data. I noticed only recently when I was in a hotel room working on my laptop (tethered phone to provide internet) and just when I joined a conference call, I lost internet. It was so embarrassing I couldnt curse tmobile and htc enough. The iphone ad about talking and surfing at the same time never made sense to me before this incidence.
my phone does this too, but its on and off. Sometimes it does, others it doesnt. I really have no idea what could cause it.
Let me shed some light on this....if you are on H will less then 2 bars and theres an E with 3 bars or more and u get a call the phone will switch to E but once you hang up then its back on H. But if H has 3 bars or more when a call is received then I will stay on the H network and allow talk and data at the same time. Theres no hard ware issues trust me. Hspa is preferred but if there is a stronger signal then the phone switches. I hope that makes sense. You can not do data and talk together on E but you can on H.

Or, to put it in other words: when the phone is in a call, it'll hop to the "best sounding" base station, and if it would happen to be the old GSM/GPRS/EDGE base station - the data will drop. The missing bit is: once it drops - it isn't re-negotiated during the call, only after it. Thus, if the phone hops to EDGE base station even for a second during the call - you won't have data from this point and till the end of the call.
Perfectly normal behavior.

This is definitely not the case. I have tried multiple times with different signal strengths but it drops completely every time. I just did another test, I was on H at 3.47mbps with all full bars and as soon as i placed a call to my friend, the data dropped completely.

It's not about the bars you see, but the signal strength (and not only) your phone sees - which is way more complicated than just bars. Read my post above.
And it's not an opinion either, it's a fact. This is how cellular handoff/handover works. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vertical_handover
Thanks for the replies and insight everyone. Now I know a little bit more about how that handover works heh.
In my case, most calls were made from my office building. Yesterday, when I posted, I had the newest radio and data would drop immediately as soon as the person answers my call (not a steady drop from 4g-3g-Edge, icon just disappears completely). At best, I was able to download a few apps during a call (which was downloading before the call was made) but as soon my screen locked and turned off - the data was gone on wake and wouldn't turn back on until after the call was finished.
Went through 4 different ROMS yesterday with about the same results but I have recently reflashed RoyalGinger again along with the stock radio thereafter and it seems to be holding during calls, even on my ride to work this morning. I know this is against what most people have said in this thread but maybe I just messed something up on my phone with the new radio? Guess I'll stick to this radio for now. Thanks again everybody.
Radio is the one responsible for determining the best possible connection, and flashing new radio might change things.
I'm in a good 3G/H coverage zone, with new radio, and just tested - the data remained on during the call in any conditions, screen off, screen on, wifi toggling - still worked.

When I'm on 4g and turn the screen off the data turns off, normally after an extended period, which its good for battery.

This has happened to me since I had my blackberry 9700. My experience has been that it loses all data (H/3G/E), even in good H/3G signal area and won't reconnect until I end the call. However the data loss only occurs while on a call. While not on a call, just surfing the net or using data any other way does not cause lost data connection nor a drop from H/3G to Edge. I saw somewhere on these forums that switching to H/3G only will prevent this from happening. I've tried this and it seemed to help, but I haven't been checking on every call.
