GPRS On O2 UK, Y is it not working?

Hi all, I hope someone can help with this,
I have tried to all O2 using 100 (but this keeps getting disconnected automatically) so I have to call as 0845 number which uses my minutes + I was waiting 30 minutes to speak to someone and when i eventually did get through they hung up (I am well Pi***d off with o2). Anyhow
I want to connect to the net using GPRS, however no GPRS symbol is displayed and if i try, i get a message saying "No moden at above number" any help would be great.
Cheers
Matt
Right, couple of things to suggest.
Firstly (and I know this sounds stupid)....O2 have recently installed new call centre handling "things" which SHOULD route your call more efficiently but as they have been put in by IBM (also, responsible for more recent "good inovations" in O2) the bits aren't working v well! - trust me as I speak from experience and "from the horses mouth" - I work for them!
So chill when you do get through....the staff on the phones are getting major grief from customers, dealers and fellow staff members (mainly store staff) because it's taking ages......It's not their fault!!
Anyway, back to your problem.....you haven'y said whether you got a new connection or an upgrade.....if it's the latter did you ahve GPRS on your previous phone and did it work?
If it's a new connection then GPRS hasn't been provisioned for some reason (although it can tkae 48 hrs max from connection to go through), same goes if it was an upgrade and you never used GPRS on the old phone.
Give me the answeres to these questions and I'll give you my best guess!
Mike
Check settings
I use this site for settings:
http://www.filesaveas.com/index.html
I would also suggest that you check that GPRS has actually been enabled by O2 for you. I had problems with MMS not being enabled although I HAD asked for it.
Thanks Mike for your responce, and I promise not to go ape at your colleagues.
I have a new account with O2, connected today, however seems strange that it could take upto 48hrs to get GPRS active, I was recently with ORANGE and as soon as I activated the phone (a SPV) the GPRS was active there and then. Ah well I will wait the 48hrs and hopefully it will come active sometime soon.
As an O2 employee, you may be able to assist on this query. As a paymonthly customer on O2 400, I am supposted to call 100 from my XDAII to call CS, but when I do this I get disconnected automatically as if the number is dead, any ideas?
Many thanks for your help.
Matt
An update on the aboe. I have managed to sort this problem out, I did a soft reset and when rebooted I noticed the phone settings were on Germany, changed it to UK and GPRS works fine.
Matt
for anyone searching with this problem
MODEM NOT FOUND AT DIALED NUMBER
1. phone CS on 0845 and make sure GPRS is on! (APN provisioning for mobile web access (you can 'check' on the 100 number, but they can't turn it on for you)
2. 3.30pm is the 'switch over' time, so soft reboot after this time each day (
up to 24hrs) ...... phone again if still not on !
3. GERMANY is default if you go to MY XDA - connections. it will always be on Germany. but the wizzard should of set it to UK when you first set it
Do you have the correct settings for wap over gprs, email over gprs using O2 payg sim with free gprs pages and wap.
Is there any portal to get the settigs to the O2 phone directly?

I just got my 1st PDA...& it happens to be XDA2... great device but I have a question.
Could someone tell me if the call duration indicator, which is located @ Start>Settings>Device infomation>call duration.. includes wap & voice calls :?:

I haven't been on the WAp for more than 10 minutes but my service provider is quoting 9 to 10 hours.. which i am not ready to pay because i haven't used it...
Hope someone can enlighten me.

GPRS not suspended during the call

Hi,
I have upgrade to the latest rom 20060426B1WWE.
When I get a call the GPRS is not suspended.
Can sameone with the old rom check how it works?
http://www.seeo2.com/support/XdaAto...ll&faq_id=1394&type=faq&category_id=197#q1394
Q7 Will GPRS get disconnected if a phone call comes in?
Answer:
Priority will go to phone calls. Thus, GPRS will be suspended during the call and automatic resumed after the call.
Maybe a bug?

Hi,
The point is a don´t get the call. It goes direct to the voice mail.
If using Wifi then the connection drops and I can answer the call.
Any ideas why
JoseF
Yes same here in india with Cellone service, i installed all the three roms available on this site and some setting combinations ie network to automatic / manual etc
the problem persists, i have a unlimited gprs package with the service but cannot use, i tested the sim on P910, Nokia 6680 works perfectly, so not a sim problem not a service problem, it is the problem with O2 Atom, having this problem since day one
hope newer roms will have this problem solved
GPRS can use 1, 2 or 4 data slots depending how busy the cells (towers) are in your area. If you happen to be using 4 slots and you get a call the call will not get through, if you're only using 1 or 2 slots then your call can get through...
Pot luck really...
JohnK1973
thanks for the info,
but i do not know if the setting you mentioned is changable, as ichecked my atom there is no option, i checked immedialetly one after the other once on atom and next on P910 same location same chair same room, it works on P910 but not on atom i can confirm because i called the cell from my landline (the land line is of different service provider)

Trinity locks up when answering/ending call

I have a colleague with a HTC P3600 GER, he complains that sometimes when he presses green button to answer a call or red button to end the call the device becomes unresponsive and he has to soft reset the device.
Is this a known problem?
Problem 3G -> GSM
Hi !
Same issue with my device but only in one condition:
I get an incoming call within a mixed 3G/GSM provider network (A1-Vodafone Austria) - i press the green button and my Trinity switches from 3G to G - the call seems to be answered but i cannot hear anything.
----->I wrote the following error description to HTC:
Massive problem answering phone calls in mixed GSM/UMTS network.
My P3600 works fine when the display shows 3G Network. Answering a call works fine by pressing the left phone button. The display closes the caller bubble and switches to the connected status and shows caller and time and so on. But every time the phone is connected to only GSM radio station - display shows "G" beside the antenna icon i cannot answer a single call. Pressing the left phone button results in showing the white bubble with caller information and nothing happens - the call doesnt start the calling party always hear the normal beep tone while waiting for pick up of the phone. In this circumstances i cannot hear anything from speaker and also cannot end the call by pressing the right phone button (hangup) - the software of the P3600 stops responding and the caller bubble is frozen at the display. When the call is discontinued by the caller the P3600 resets to normal activity waiting for a call and showing a missed call !! This happens at every GSM call - about 10 t! imes since yesterday !! It is very important for me that i can answer calls in both network connection modes because the austrian provider A1/Vodafone has mixed environment all over the country. The receipton of GSM while the problem comes up is always more than 2 or 3 bars on antenna display.
Hope that there is some possible solution for this problem.
ROM Software Version is:
1.16.407.2 (German)
Setting for network provider is:
Automatic
Band selection is:
Auto
Auto
Many thanks in advance !!

----->The answer from HTC was:
Hello
This seems to be a very strange issue that you are experiencing and something that we have not heard of before.
Does this occur every time that you receive a call in a non-3G area?
I would recommend that you perform a Hard Reset on the device. This will restore the device back to the factory software settings. This will also remove all settings, contact , calendar information as well as any files and SMS.
Once this has been performed I would ask you to test if this has resolved your issue. If this has then you should experience no more issues. If this does not solve your issue then I would recommend that you contact your local repair center, details below, to arrange a repair of your device.

P3600: Sometimes, calls get forwarded to voicemail without the phone even ringing

Hi. I am using the P3600 since February 07 and have noticed that sometimes callers are being forwarded to my voicemail directly without the phone ringing. I checked the service settings (diverts), and what I do have enabled is a divert to voicemail *if the phone is busy, unavailable or out of reach*.
I am using Pushmail / Activesync via UMTS and ask myself if the phone is dropping in a "busy" state while downloading new e-mail. If somebody would call exactly then, this could cause the divert to my voicemail.
Did anybody have a similar experience?
Thank you and best regards
Stefan

Hi
On German Vodafone this happens if
a) HSDPA is enabled
b) you ar online with a data connection
c) you get a phone call then
I disabled HSDPA and the problem is gone.
which network do you use?
do you have HSDPA enabled?
I've had the same issue. I have Cingular/AT&T. They tried troubleshooting the phone, and ended up sending me a new one. Weeks later I find that I'm still having this problem. If you find out an answer let me know...
HSDPA in use
Hi - thank you for your reply. I am in Switzerland, and I use Swisscom as a provider. HSDPA is one of the option the phone goes for if no other is available. Is there a way to disallow the usage of HSDPA? Thanks and best regards, Stefan

Yes, there is. Try SK Tools. There is also a HTC Tool for this and http://www.fit4cat.de/portal.php has another tool. If you have problems finding one of these tools then send me a private message with your email adress.
Thank you - I will check tools out
Thank you very much - I will check those tools out!
Hi, guys!
I'm from Ukraine, and my operator doesn't have 3G yet, only GSM/EGPRS.
And I don't use voicemail but there is lighter service here. If somebody called me when I was unavailable, out of zone I would receive SMS from operator with callee's number and call time.
And after switching to P3600 I began to receive such SMSes 5-7 time per day even if I'm sitting in my office all the time and is available.
I've written e-mail to HTC support but haven't received answer yet
does not happen only with P3600
I switched my SIM-card to a Sony Ericsson P990i - and was stumbling into the same problem. Calls sometimes get forwarded directly to my Voicemail if data connection is active. It seems to me rather a provider than a device problem ... ! I will discuss this with Swisscom. Thanks for the hint.
