Hi guys,
I am trying to a cook rom. But have few questions.
1. How I can test my cooked rom before flashing?
2. If something goes wrong in the middle of flashing (power failure or flashing stops) how can I recover?
Thanks,
Lhrt
1-ultimately you have to test it on your device, you can use emulator but its not that accurate (cooking = risking loosing your phone)
2-it is always recommended you use a laptop! (power failure); re flash and hope for a recovery in case of bad scenarios

Well, about 4 days ago, I flashed my Polaris with udK R8, as I made the decision to flash that while I waited for R1.
As I am new to flashing, I have a small question regarding the flashing instructons.
I was reading the instructions on Flashing R0:
udK said:
How to install a cooked ROM.
Install Hard SPL
Put device in bootloader mode.
Run Polaris_CustomRUU.exe and good luck.
Everyone NOTE:
AVG and other anitvirus's usually detect a virus in Custom_RUU.exe, it's false error. Disable your antivirus while downloading and flashing the ROM.

, and I believe they're gonna be the same instructions for flashing R1.
My question is as follows:
Do I have to do the whole process (Installing Hard SPL again?), or if I did that once (when I flashed R8), do I just have to run Custom_RUU.exe from the extracted zip?
Thanks in advance.
just custom_ruu
Thank you for the quick reply, mondo

Once you install Hard SPL to your device there is no need to do so again.
the whole purpose of hard SPL is to have your device correctly SPL'd all the time... soft SPL is an SPL you flash everytime before every rom incase you wanna keep your original SPL intact.
Right n .n
it just... flipped me, didn't think of the words Soft vs. Hard
...and to think i'm an IT engineer... u_ u''
Thanks again!
Hey Guys,
during the last three month I tried a lot of roms out of this forum.
But now I want to reinstall the original WM6 on my Herald.
Is it neccessary, to patch my HardSPL down, or can I install it with the 4.7version without problems?
Thans for your help.
Sorber
it will be fine if u keep hard spl as long as you not flashing the stock rom
EDIT: i just reread the post yea you will need to remove it lol

You can flash an original firmware without removing HardSPL. But beware of the fact, that you can't use an original ROM (RUU) without modifiyng the image!
The easiest way would be to use an original RUU and extract the parts of it with nbhtool. Then build a new ROM with the extracted OS.nb and then use the HTC Tool with the new OS.nb and the extracted ExtendedROM.nb and Splashscreen.nb to build a new .nbh.
After that you can flash this .nbh-File (Image).
I hoped it helped a little bit.
step 1. download the software from t-mobile
step 2. remove battery
step 3. hold down the cam button and put battery in. turn on phone.
step 4. you will then see the USB mode on your wing, connect it
to PC
step 5. install software and follow instructions...
thats it.

Hi there,
Normally when I flash my rom and the device reboots automatically, I remove the battery when I see "Smart Mobility", place the battery back and do the hard reset.
I was wondering, is this the right way to do it? It sounds like you could mess up the phone by doing that.
never heard that... But I always do it the secure way: let the phone finish booting and then shutdown + hard-reset... costs you 2 minutes
regards
Personally I remove battery at smart mobility screen and hard reset before phone goes to automatic setup. I've flashed hundreds of roms with no issue doing this....plus it saves me a couple mins each time
Why Hardreset?
why is it necessary to make a hard reset ? When i flash my new ROM the HTC does make a hardreset itsself - or am i wrong with it ?

Flashing a ROM, cleans only some of the files on the device, if I am not mistaking. If you do a hard reset, then you delete the extra "bagage", that the previous ROM left.
Cheers.
another silly question ...
Yes I need an answer dear Moderators and other senior members who have deeeeeep knowledge on this flashing pain...

Radios and roms have nothing to do with each other, you could use 100 diffrent roms with your stock radio and there will be no problem, on the other hand diffrent radios mite give you better power management or reception
Personaly i`ve flashed 50+ roms and never hard reset anytime.
I`ve never had any issues and only suffer the same bugs that everybody else in the threads are suffering...
I'm not sure if this is what usually happens because I am a noob but, my phone has been on the "stick together" screen for a while, afte rinstalling the ROM is it going into the customization stage or something? Or is it bricked?
I have a 1024 Leo, if that helps.
Okay so please don't hate me for this, but I installed the wrong ROM onto my phone, I just realized. Can I just install another rom right over it? Or what do I do from here? I can get into the boot screen.

The thing is, it doesn't turn on past that screen so therefore no ActiveSync connection is available. And I'm not sure how to do it via SD card.

Turn phone off. Press and hold VolDown. Tap the Power Button while still holding VolDown, hold, hold, hold --> BootloaderScreen appears --> Connect USB --> Wait for "USB" shown on Screen instead of "Serial" --> Flash
should I flash the stock ROM just to be safe? or can I go ahead and flash this ROM? I'm 100% this time that it is the correct ROM.

You have several options:
1. Stock ROM --> Custom ROM = Quite clean method
2. Custom ROM = Might not be a clean flash (especially because u had a bad one last time)
3. Use Task29 (cleans the whole ROMMemory) --> Custom ROM = Cleanest method
Dont forget to use a proper Radio for your US-Version and the CustomROM you are using and flash it before you install the entire ROM

See attachment
Make sure you have HSPL (i guess you have installed it as you already flashed a CustomROM)
0. Unpack the zip
1. Go into Bootloader (see some posts above)
2. Connect your Leo to PC
3. Start Task29.exe
4. Follow instructions
5. After finish you Leo will stay on Starting screen
6. Disconnect from PC
7. Remove Battery and insert it back again
8. Again go into Bootloader and connect to PC
9. Flash Radio (After that is finished youll have to take out the Batt again as there is still no ROM to boot )
10. Flash ROM
11. Enjoy an absolutely cleanly flashed HD2
Its really that easy

Yep it was indeed a great invention... One thing: You pointed him to a 512MB Flash Tutorial but he has the 1024MB-Version. Things are not too much different but still you could get into problems, especially as the ThreadOpener seems to be a bit unexperienced.

hi guys.
at first i should say:excuse-me for my bad English

i install an app and then i restart my hero
and now problem is starting...my hero cant boot itself
i hard-reset it/but this way cant help my hero to boot itself/
what should i do now with my hero?
plz help.
Flash a different (or newer version) of a custom rom. Sounds like something went wrong.
in this situation can i flash another rom?
anybody suggest any way?whit flashing new rom it will be done?
Yeah, what BTDAG said.
Turn it off,... Turn back on into recovery (HOLD HOME + POWER) then flash a new ROM.
It may have been that your download corrupted, you could just try downloading the same ROM again or try another.
Worry not,...
tnx bro...
i fix my hero with ur help
