I think I might've "bricked" my phone. - HD2 General

I'm not sure if this is what usually happens because I am a noob but, my phone has been on the "stick together" screen for a while, afte rinstalling the ROM is it going into the customization stage or something? Or is it bricked?
I have a 1024 Leo, if that helps.
Okay so please don't hate me for this, but I installed the wrong ROM onto my phone, I just realized. Can I just install another rom right over it? Or what do I do from here? I can get into the boot screen.

The thing is, it doesn't turn on past that screen so therefore no ActiveSync connection is available. And I'm not sure how to do it via SD card.

Turn phone off. Press and hold VolDown. Tap the Power Button while still holding VolDown, hold, hold, hold --> BootloaderScreen appears --> Connect USB --> Wait for "USB" shown on Screen instead of "Serial" --> Flash

should I flash the stock ROM just to be safe? or can I go ahead and flash this ROM? I'm 100% this time that it is the correct ROM.

You have several options:
1. Stock ROM --> Custom ROM = Quite clean method
2. Custom ROM = Might not be a clean flash (especially because u had a bad one last time)
3. Use Task29 (cleans the whole ROMMemory) --> Custom ROM = Cleanest method
Dont forget to use a proper Radio for your US-Version and the CustomROM you are using and flash it before you install the entire ROM

Make sure you have HSPL (i guess you have installed it as you already flashed a CustomROM)
0. Unpack the zip
1. Go into Bootloader (see some posts above)
2. Connect your Leo to PC
3. Start Task29.exe
4. Follow instructions
5. After finish you Leo will stay on Starting screen
6. Disconnect from PC
7. Remove Battery and insert it back again
8. Again go into Bootloader and connect to PC
9. Flash Radio (After that is finished youll have to take out the Batt again as there is still no ROM to boot )
10. Flash ROM
11. Enjoy an absolutely cleanly flashed HD2
Its really that easy

Yep it was indeed a great invention... One thing: You pointed him to a 512MB Flash Tutorial but he has the 1024MB-Version. Things are not too much different but still you could get into problems, especially as the ThreadOpener seems to be a bit unexperienced.

HD2 TMO US Stuck at tmo screen !HELP!

Okay this is what happen I had files in my SD card and there was this exe file that i downloaded onto the phone it rebooted and then it stays stuck on the tmobile slpash stick together screen. Tried downloaded a different ROM to the phone but still wont work. I dont know what else to do? Should i return it back to Tmo US and what should i say? Can anyone please help.
Never mind iI fixed it thank you all for your help.... Great Community
You take it back and tell them pretty much that after reboot it simply got stuck... They have lot more capabilities of fixing it quickly then you with replacing ROMs, etc.
i dowloaded the spl 1024 can i go back to tmo regular rom US

1. Did you flash HSPL ?
2. Are you a new in flashing ROMs
Turn mobile off, turn it on with volume key down. Connect phone to PC using USB cable (word : `serial` changes to `USB`), flash HSPL (if you didn`t flash it already), flash stock ROM or custom ROM (some custom ROMs require to flash radio first).
Kris
EDIT :
Sorry didn`t see some first answers. If you didn`t mess around SPL, you didn`t loose your warranty .. I would take it back to the store. If you changed SPL you can still reverse it and than take it to the store. If you don`t want to, you can follow procedure above (at your own risk).
Yes i did flash HSPL 1024 for Tmmo US and had a custom ROM on it. And sort of yes. Do you know where i could get the stock rom so it could back to tmo and i could return it and tell them after leaving it overnight charging with the phone completly off and turning it on in the morning it stayed at the tmo screen. Lets see what they say. But can you or someone give me the stock rom

How to flash from SD card ?

I know apparently this isnt the best way to flash your HD2, but im stuck without any access to windows. (mac user)
i cant seem to find step by step instructions on how to do this properly....
is there a link somewhere i can get to so i can figure this out? isnt it as simple as copying the custom.nbh file to the root of my memory card, and entering the bootloader screen?
Sorry for all the noob questions.
take ruu_signed.nbh, copy it to sdcard formatted fat32 (2gb cards seen to work best) rename it leoimg.nbh, boot to bootloader and it should detect the image and ask if you want to flash.
it still requires hspl, unless you have a goldcard(easier to borrow a pc for two minutes to apply hspl than make a goldcard)
the phones already been flashed with hspl.
i just want to change the rom!
Thanks for the tips im going to go for it right now

Hi
One advice you have to remember is DO NOT flash any official rom with this method. If you do it will replace the hspl and you will be stuck.
Good luck

True, flashing a stock rom via sd card will overwrite hspl with the new stock spl, but you will not necessarily be stuck. That used to be the case before hspl2, as the original hspl only worked with spl 1.42.0000. HSPL2 now works with 1.42.0000, 1.66.0000 or 2.08.0000 spl's.
or just throw your mac away and buy a PC
What many forget is that you actually need an SD card and not SDHC, as those will not work.
understand u already flash hspl,
microSD / microSDHC will work as long it is formatted with FAT32 fs.
just copy the *.nbh to SD root & rename it to LEOIMG.nbh.
enter bootloader, follow on-screen.
if bootloader cant find any rom image, run scandisk & try again.
gd luck.
I just flashed this rom.
It seemed to be fine. It installed and looked a-ok.
I had a look around and every thing looked as it should.
I added "26.4 column Start menu.cab" and now the phone won't reboot at all.
It gets to the HTC white screen, and then hangs.
Any ideas?
Is it a conflict between the 4 columns app and the ROM?

when you say "just flashed this rom", what rom?
also, did you read ALL the first few posts in the chefs thread? chances are it requires a specific radio version
either that or you didn't do a hard reset after you flashed.
apologies, I replied in here when I thought I was in the HTC Energy thread.
The device rebooted after the flash.
Does that not count as a hard reset?
samsamuel said:
Is it T Mobile usa? if so, then you have flashed an incompatible rom.
tmous (T Mo US) phones will opnly take roms based on 2.10, the rom you have installed is 1.66 (D 1. 66. Kumar)
Kumar has a rom in the Tmo US section based on 2.10, you should use that, not the one in teh normal hd2 section.
With power off, press and hold "volume down", tap the power key and continue to hold vol down until you get the three coloured screen, connect to usb, wait for word 'serial' to become 'usb' and flash a compatible rom.

I ran into the same problem and all I had to do was to get the phone into Bootloader and then flash the radio recommended by ROM Cook.
also the same problem
I have also this problem, but I think it's in the rom, when I installed the rom, everything seems ok, but after a reset, the screenthat I get is the white HTC screen.
After a hard reset it is ok, but after a reset it is the same problem.
Then I thought, i take an older rom, but when I've installed the rom he is automatic installing the cab file's at the end of the installation, and he's going to automatic reset the HD2. After the reset I have the same problem as with the new rom.
So the biggest problem is that I can't install another rom or radio because the rom don't start for 100%, and when I do a hard reset, after the reset at the end of the installation I get the white HTC screen.
What can I do, can I fix this problem?

RTFM. These constant posts about white screen hangs are really getting frustrating. Does nobody follow the forum rules of searching any longer? There's nothing wrong with the rom, the user on the other hand I'm not so sure of.

If you bothered to read even just the last 5 pages of the Energy thread you would have seen probably 20 mentions of the problem. Energy rom won't work with a x.xx.51.xx radio.

[APP] Flashaholic Rom Update Utility v1.1

Update info at the end of this post.
---------
warning: this tool is for flashaholics. The ones who know all risks of flashing roms and like to live in the fast lane
Note for non HD2-users: this tool works only on the HD2. For a general version that will work on other devices too: look here.
- Description:
FlashaholicRUU (FRUU) is a customized version of the HTC Rom Update utility that will simplify the rom update proces by:
1. automatically performing a task29 before updating a rom
2. allowing the user to navigate through the dialog windows without having to check checkboxes (s)he has seen a gazillion times before.
3. allowing the user to use only the keyboard to go through the dialog boxes (enter -> next window, esc -> quit fruu)
- Usage:
This program will take you through the steps of performing a Task29 (formatting your roms storage memory) and then flashing a new rom. It is not advised to use this if you are totally new to flashing roms as if it is done incorrectly you will end up with no rom on your phone and a permanent look of terror on your face
This is not for noobs!!
1. Make sure your phone is booted up
2. Sync your pc and phone<
3. Copy the FlashaholicRUU.exe file to a new folder with JUST the roms .nbh file present (nothing else)
4. Run the FlashaholicRUU.exe and follow the instructions in the program
5. Click on the "perform task29" button to format your roms memory
6. As soon as the percentage bar reaches 100% hold your "volume down" button and continue holding until the phone reboots and enters the bootloader screen
NOTE: If you get a white screen with "hTC" in the middle then you need to take out your battery and enter bootloader mode manually before continuing (take battery out and put it back in, then hold the volume down button and briefly press the power button. Keep holding the volume down button until the bootloader screen appears).
7. When the white box in the bottom of the bootloader screen says "USB" then click on "Flash Rom" in the Flashaholic program
8. Follow the onscreen instructions and lastly click on "Flash" to flash the rom to your phone
9. You will now have a percentage bar on your phone and your new rom is being flashed
10. Once your Rom has flashed your phone will reboot and you can go through the setup screens.
Run your new Rom for a few hours, search for another one and start again with step 1 (if you want to become a real senior flashaholic)
NOTE: There is no need to perform a Hard Reset after flashing the Rom using this program as the Task29 performs a much more thorough job.
--------------
When you want to flash a rom without performing task 29 (for example when you want to flash a new radio) just hit <ESC> on the first screen of step 1. This will take you right to step 2 in which you can flash your rom

- Video:
Video of the app on a computer of a fellow flashaholic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hn3pGbW-vag. Thank you claub. Keep on flashin'
- Note to chefs:
You can pack FRUU with your Roms. You can even customize FRUU for your Rom series. For example you can use your own images, text, info etc. I have written some general instructions about customizing the RUU here. (Notice that in FRUU ModelID.fig is used for the first task29 step and RUU.fig is used for the second step. The dialogs for the first step are part of RUUResource.dll. Dialogs for the second step you will find in CustomizedRomResource.dll. Instead of the setup.bat and setup.vbs I mentioned in the aforementioned post I used the files run.bat and run.vbs. For exra information you can PM me)
- Donations:
Are accepted
Thank you!
Thanks to: doloop (for his non-mtty task 29 tool), ShaDrac (for speeding up doloops procedure) and MysticGenius (for convincing this community that task 29 really is important )
------------------------------------
UPDATE (v1_1 , 17-7-2010): speeded up the first procedure (task29) by flashing the standard HTC bootscreen (1st screen you see when the device boots up). Util is considerably smaller.
Be aware that if you have another bootscreen than the standard HTC bootscreen, it will be overwritten. If you don't like this use the first version (FlashaholicRUU.zip)

Not necessary, unless you want to change your radio. Task 29 only formats the rom area and does not remove the radio, so the radio you were using previously will remain.

Firstly its "ROM" not "room".
What do you mean "with triangle" ??
Which HD2 do you have and which ROM did you try flashing?
Can you get into tri-color bootloader mode?
Sorry i post my thread quickly. Yes i tried to flash a ROM, i have HD2 512MB. I tried to flash a 3.14.405 rom. triangle - i can get in tri-color bootloader mode, but when i try also flash original rom there is no result, it crashes on 9 or 17%. Triangle is a sign when i switch on a device, i believe it means ther eis no windows/rom on device

Possible fix stuck bricked hd2 radio no rsa information
Please read the whole post first sorry about the mess it is my first post thanks to everyone here on xda who came up with everything i used to do this There is guides for this xda has a lovely list of tmous roms if you are on t mobile in the us http://www.xdafil.es/index.php?path=HD2/TMOUS/
i would start with the RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.02.531.MASD_S__Radio_Signed_15.29.50.07U_2.06.50.04_TeleNav-5.5.42.zip
extract the .exe file if it has one than extract the RUU_signed.nbh from the .exe file using win war or 7 zip than rename it to LEOIMG.nbh and place it on a newly formatted microsd not a microsdhc and i had problems with anything over class 4
place it in your phone and hold the volume down button and power button as loading comes up let off volume down power button will start the flash(i was only able to do complete flashes in the freezer if not it would hang or get radio errors)
i also had a tmous which did not want to flash the radio i would get an an error and rsa fail it sounds crazy but i wrapped it in plastic and stuck it in the freezer for a while before and during the flash this was the only way i could install the radio and actually see rgd information on boot screen after this first one you will have an old test rom with an old spl you cannot change to hspl from here i also was not able to go straight to 2.10, i had to step up from RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.03.531.6_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.50.23_3_Test.zip, to RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.03.531.6_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.50.23_3_Test.zip the same way i did the first one, hard resetting after each one and let it open windows completely to know it is working. than i believe there is an hspl3 file somewhere out there with all thanks to DarkForces Team HardSPL3 by bepe and Cotulla i will try to attach it that will work with spl 2.02 wich you should now be on now you can download your radio in the master radio thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787
i also just renamed the ruu_signed.nbh to LEOIMG.nbh and ran through sd i seem to have problems through usb and i was trying to be careful with the radio
once you got the radio you want you could flash the rom preferably running task 29 before or get yourself magldr to install through nand i also stuck my laptop an the freezer with the phone to get wp7 completely installed i did all this mess with a phone that had a broken screen i think there is like thermal compound over the processor to the case that is not on right and overheats when not in the operating system like a crappy old laptop with its fans full of stuff trying to install xp. and while a stock rom was being installed the usb was pulled during the radio installation i hope this helps i belive i saw one post to stick it in the freezer out of everything that i think helped the most.i also notice i have to put it in the freezer at boot too sometimes or i will get a fatal hit error i think its just over heating..... i also have an hd2 which has never been opened before that i have never had to stick in the freezer it gets flashed quite abit right now running gingerbread on normal hd2 and wp7 dual boot android 2.2 on the one i had to freeze i hope this helps i was here for weeks reading reading i was stumped cus my first hd2 and g1 were so eazy i will update this post once i stop being lazy and open the phone again to replace the goop to see if that is the problem
Thank you for reading my jumble and thanks again to all you phone heads here on xda which without you none of this would be possible and i would not have wp7 and gingerbread on my hd2 : D

you have to find the original rom shipped with your phone like here i am tmobile usa roms you have to find your carrier and country and start with one of the first ones i started with my second one RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.02.531.MASD_S__Radio_Signed_15.29.50.07U_2.06.50.04_TeleNav-5.5.42.zip and i kept getting stuck screens when it was hot turn it off maby find some silica gel (lil rocks that come with everything to absorb water) wrap it in plastic and throw it in the freezer does the back of the phone get real hot during flash
i have shipped original rom, still no luck
not the newest one
you need one of the first test roms this was the only way i got mine to work i had to go from 2.02 to 2.03 to 2.05 hard resetting after each install making sure they completely went in what carrier are you and where are you
Still stuck?
Download HSPL 3.zip from page 1,
Run the program;
a) select 2.08.000 (not HSPL) and you can flash stock (HTC) ROM with no damage or aftermarket changes on your phone.
b) select 2.08.HSPL and you can flash whatever you want
Install MAGLDR 1.13
Flash ROM
Make sure you follow the instructions EXACTLY. You can find these all over XDA, look at all of my posts if you need to.

Hi, thanks a lot. Only, SPL for original rom was 1.42000 is it ok to flash with 2.08.000 ? And why i should install MAGLDR 1.3 ? Thanks in advance,
Ok, now i dont understand anything. My original SPL was 1.42, i did Hardspl 3, after that tried flash original rom, process stuck on 96%, after that i tried once again stuck on 9% and says rom not compatible with device. And its like a hidden circle, my phone is acting like that all the time. I tried task29, tried all HSPL, also 1.4200, 1.66 and so on. Can anybody help me? my skype nick is martins.prieditis , maybe someone can assist me?
Ok now its fixed. I did a HSPL4, due to which original rom freeze on 0%, but 3.14 didnt start up on loading OS (white screen with HTC logo))or freeze on 99%. Than went back to shipped 1.42, stock room succesfylly flashed and did a SSPL_RUU. Now the only problem is that my LEO restarts when it gets hot. Any ideas how to fix it?
Thanks all for youre help (regarding my previous issue) !
Overheating??
As mrpoe stated in post 9, One of his phone had to be put in the freezer to be able to flash anything otherwise it will get hot and freeze.
Also the motherboard is most likely broken and you cannot get it to work without freezing or it will keep rebooting...
The best thing to do if you still have warranty is to Keep stock SPL and stock WM6.5 and return for warranty.
It will not function the same again.

[Q] Should i buy this phone?

Hello, I'm new here and I'm about to buy a HD 2.
I could get one for 100€ but the seller says, that it hangs on htc logo but it is possible to get into the bootloader.
Is there a risk, that it's broken or something similar? Should i ask him something to make sure, if it's broken or not?
Thanks.
There is always a risk with buying second hand goods, the chances are the phone has already been toyed with and flashed to a point where either the wrong spl or hspl was installed for a specific ROM or maybe it they tried to install Android but got it wrong etc, Personally if you have time on your hands to try and rectify it then go for it, But unless you know what you are doing then I wouldn't bother with it.
Thanks, should i ask him, which H/SPL Version is installed?
The seller says, that he got the hd2 from a friend, who tried to flash a rom but it failed and they had no effort to "repair" it.
So do you mean, that there is finally a chance, that the device or/and the NAND is broken?
A friend of my bought a HTC HD2 recently and got flashed Android onto it. The only problem he has is that with Android he gets quite poor batt life. So if you are a heavy user, keep this in mind
Thanks.
The only question is, if the HD2 is broken.
I hoped, that you guys could except that.
Stuck on HTC logo is for example when you install sense rom and choose one of two options about apps on SD. They have done something bad during the install, or bad HSPL. The best way is to download from this forum Windows Mobile rom (no matter which, but best should be stock), flash it in bootloader (PWR+Vol-) via SD card. Then everything is default. And you can start flashing android step by step. It is not easy to break that dev, trust me I have it for 2 months, and it is still alive For a smartphone it is long for me I am using Dorimanx rom, and when you don't surf a lot of web, then it is OK for 2 days (battery life). When you use it much, then about 1 day (phone still looks for network, under ground).
Okay these are good news.
But don't you think, that a Tas29 would be better as first?
Oh and do you think, that selling my HTC Blackstone/Touch HD for the HD2 is a good deal?
I think that the system specifications of the Touch HD are not good enough to get sometime a good anroid nand rom. I tried the only nand build yet and I'm not very convinced.
EDIT:I asked the seller, what is displayed on the bootloader screen to get known of the H/SPL version (, right?).
I hopo to get a answer from him very soon.

I have never done Task29 and I have fast and stable rom. I even don't know what is this Just flash stock rom via SD in bootloader. Then during android install and all these HSPLs you can do Task29, but it's not necessary I think.

OK, but that is not important if you will flash windows onto it. It should be 2.08 HSPL for android, on other it doesn't work.
Okay thank you.
So can I finally buy it without risks?
How about prepare a SD card with leoimg.nbh first, then test it immediately when dealing? (If you are not buying it on ebay, i mean you go out and meet the seller, instead of shipping the product to your home)
My guess is it's foobarbed, if easily recovered then it would be done & up & running.
Is it EU or TMOUS version ? It is a big risk but as mentioned above if can physically meet & test device a little could reduce risk.
If a blind sale via eBay forget it unless you can afford the gamble or have use for parts ...
Buying used HD2s listed as fully working is risky enough & anything listed like this is normally scrap hoping for a gambling punter ! ...
Good idea! He is 25 kilometer (15 miles) away from me and it is cash only.
I hope, that he allows me to flash.
A official winmo rom would be the best, right?
How should i proceed? Flashing the rom and then testing if it works? or less?
Where can I get one, which will work with SPL and/or HSPL?
Thanks.
EDIT: @ Mister B: What does foobarbed mean? I'm not that good in english. The HD2 is EU and as above it is cash only so i hope that I can test it.
I don't know what does it mean too. Flash rom (Any WM6.5) but best would be stock, and boot it When it boots ok, then all right. But check Wi-Fi and these stuff if you want Stock roms: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623283
Check if the touch is ok, and battery if is original etc.
Prepare a SDCard with a suitable rom version(ask for the seller which region of that HD2, and download the corresponding rom)
rename the exe to .zip
open the zip file, extract RUU_signed.nbh to the root of your SDCard
rename RUU_signed.nbh to leoimg.nbh
When you want to test the phone, insert the sd card, boot into the bootloader, do:
Hold VOL-, press the power button(hold both button)
Now, HD2 should powered up, it should tell you to:
"Press power button to start update image"
Press the power button, then start update
When the update is completed(with NO ERROR), restart the phone and see if the phone turned back to Windows Mobile 6.5 and all function are working.

Thank you. I downloaded the rom for my country and then i extracted ruu_signed.nbh from the .exe file.
Now i need to rename it to LEOIMG.nbh and copy it over to my micro sd card?
Is this right?
EDIT: Thanks hopkinskong. You were faster
Yes, that's right
Tips from me:
1. SD muntn't be partitioned, and must be foramted before copying leoimg.nbh
2. Watch out with time you hold these two buttons, because Vol- cancells update, so holding both, it will choose cancell, and it won't update. So just after the bootloader appears, immediately unpress the buttons.
Yes, thank you
I think, that i know that steps from my touch hd, so it shouldn't be a problem
If it has HSPL installed I would of first tried flashing a custom ROM such as NRGs WM6.5.x builds.
By flashing from SD and using original Rom you will overwrite HSPL & if then ROM is wrong vendor version you will have hassle.
Try keeping HSPL if it has it as can make recovery options less difficult.
"Foobarbed" is slang english, means broken, my bad & your english is very good ...

I didn't know that. Thanks. It will be helpful for me in the future. But if he know that it is EU version, then... And T-Mobile looks a bit different. Bu tif you say it is better, then I won't discuss.

But what, if SPL is installed? If so, I wont be able to install the custom rom and I can't select between two roms in the bootloader, right?
Hmm..maybe I'll find an old sdcard.
