Hello,
I've seen this problem mentioned a few times, but i've never found a fix for it. When using the 20 key touch pad to enter a password it locks you into numeric only and there is no way to swtich. I'm always forced to switch to the old school stylus keyboard.
What makes it worse is that for some reason if I try to enter text into the URL field in Opera mobile it also locks me into the numpad, forcing me to use the goto command or the old shool stylus.
I know everyone suggests the cootek keyboard to work around this, but I'd really like to fix the Touch Keyboard as I find the cootek one a little gaudy.
Thanks for any help!

Pretty please?

Hi,
I've had a good search and can't find anything to help with this problem; basically when the key locak comes on, instead of the numeric pad on the screen to unlock, there is a text box, and the numbers are needed to be input with the stylus or via the main keyboard. This is realyy awkward while driving!!!! PLease help, how can i get it back to the numeric screen pad????
Thanks.
It's very simple.
When you set a numeric password consists of only 4 digits you will see unlock screen with big numeric buttons.
If the password consists of 5 or more symbols you will see what you can see now.
Thankk you very much! it has been driving me crazy!!
Hi, I'm very keen on buying the P3600 and am just wondering about a couple of things - firstly, not having used a touchscreen before, how easy it texting using the on-screen keypad. Secondly, an odd question, but one I've been wondering about - if you're viewing a web page, but are holding the P3600 in landscape (or sideways) when you use the scroll button which way does the page scroll - horizontally or vertically?
Thanks
Vertically.
Texting is fine on the Dopod D810 - I use the stylus and keyboard only now but if you prefer Phone Pad style, there is one installed too. I just don't like the way it requires you to select the word from the prompt list rather than just display the word in the msg straight away. If you're ambitious (& patience), you might also like to try the Transcriber with your hand-writing
TenGo text entry
Anybody tried TenGO Thumb and if so, does it integrate well with the Trinity and more importantly is it easy to use?
Thanks for all your help so far.
I've tried to install TenGO before but couldn't get it to work. Right after that, I found PhonePad and haven't looked back. For long texts/emails, I use Spb fullscreen keyboard...no stylus necessary...
Hi
i have tried to install TenGo and this phone pad, oh and a couple of other alternate keyboards, and try as i may i cannot get them to show up. They exist in the list, both as an alternate input method and as an option on the keyboard choice pop-up. A soft reset after picking one still returns me to the original keyboard.
Am i missing something really obvious? If so where should i start looking?
Banafish, what is 'Spb fullscreen keyboard' - is it a stand-alone application?
Try using the iPhone-like keyboard. Love it for texting.
Of all I've used so far, thats the most comfortable, especially in landscape mode . Not only the keys are big, it also doesnt eat up all your screen space when writing like that of spb keyboard (which is good for writing essays, which I'll never do).

SPB fullscreen keyboard is an application:
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/fsk/?en
You can install/uninstall it like you would any 3rd party app. Once installed, it will appear as an input option and you can access it that way. I have it mapped to one of the hard buttons so that I can just activate it when I need it.

Does anyone know if there's a sip out there that shows how many characters you've typed...because you really need to know when you've reached the 160 characters limit for a single text message?

I thought you can see this in the default message window, just that you need to close the text input panel first.. or scroll down the window.
ok, I just got tengo keyboard to work. Not for fast one handed operation, although you can try tengo thumb. There's a free 'lite' version of the regular tengo keyboard available.
Anyone ever tried using Fitaly? I managed to get upwards of 40 words per minute using that, even sometimes hitting 50 wpm. I installed 3.5 on it though, and it slowed down my phone so much, I had to take it off.
I have this perfect model, but one big problem with t9 entering text. I need disable this funkcion for ever. Can somebody advice?
Hey, I am having the same issue. It always tries to predict / complete my words but it never does it correctly. I have changed it to stop doing it in both the Touch Keyboard settings and the input settings.
Any guidance would be helpful.
This will disable T9 but...
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Tegic\eT9\ and change the key "XT9SupportMSSip" from value "1" to "0".
... I did this as well as disabling the HTC built in keyboards via SKTools. I also installed 'PCMKeyboard' and 'IM selector' (To set PCM as the default).
In doing all of this, now on reset, one of the HTC keyboards still looks like it's default and I do not get predictive text anymore. Meaning that if I start a new email or sms, enter a letter in the 'To:' field, it wont suggest a contact.
I really haven't poked around as to what is going on so I'm living with it because I like the PCM keyboard to much.
Any help would be great. Thanks!
Your registry advice is not working on my device.
I obtained this reg suggestion through a thread in the 'elf' forum. I needed to use it to enable 'PCMkeyboard'. Sorry, I can no longer find the thread I was reading. You may want try and search for some clues there.
try this
try this
i think it will fix the problem
Hi GUys
The cab file works fine so well done.....
However if you are looking to use your keypad to msg[without T9] it wont work as the file disabled the use of letters, only numbers now work
Any chance that T9 can be turned off and still be able to use keypad to msg as normal.........
Thanks
Has there been any progress on this???
I'm tired of typing using the keyboard, along with the touchscreen and suggestions being made, then if i'm not looking, i press space and it adds the damned suggestion onto what i've typed (for instance: twotoo / memean)
Very annoying when trying to type a text quickly and sneakily in work, as i've got to focus on the text and not who's around me!
If it can be switched off, I would highly appreciate it, I can't find it in the Advanced Config Tool, or under any of the settings.
Thank you,
Hate to do this, but any ideas anyone???
Thank you,
Dear Friends,
I just bought one HTC Touch last week. I regret on using it, because it is very difficult to key in data.
For example, when you want to type SMS, by keyboard, either block recognizer, or other else. You will find out that your HTC is too lag, and the spell checker can not be disabled. It make me regret to bought it. Do any one have a solution on this problem? I hate TOUCH...!!!
I, too, found out that you can't seem to shut off the spell checker/auto input, despite the supposed option to disable pre-emptive text... I'm a stylus guy and I use Fitaly (www.fitaly.com, I can type way faster than any other method ~ 30 words per minute) and it was driving me mad that it was putting text in "for" me. I had the same problem with 3 different ROMs (Sprint Original, JDs Clean, and dcd's 0.20) But now with no2chem's wm6.1clean, I still can't stop the pre-emptive text, BUT it doesn't override me!
I agree about the lag... I can't understand it either. Jim256 has been railing about this in several threads... and quite frankly, I agree with him. Not that it's slow per se, but it SHOULD be faster. Still better than the alternatives out there. I love my Vogue! Maybe RevA will help... who knows?
I sympathize with you bro.

Try touchpal by cootek
Touchpal is great, but takes some time getting used to. Overall I was impressed with the spb fullscreen keyboard. I assigned it to my short press button or what used to be the standard camera button and it has helped out a lot.
You can turn off spell correction through your controll panel. I love the data entry. I also use spb fullscreen keyboard. Its suprisingly quick and accurate due to the big keys. I have it mapped to the hardbutton (I only use voice recognition when I am wearing a bt headset so its all good)

That's what I use and I'm coming from having used graffiti on a palm m515 and multitap key on a cell phone. Works great for me.
Does anyone know how to change this??? On my Mogul, if I started typing a Contacts name or number into the "TO" area, it would auto complete the contacts email address or telephone number. How can I enable this?
Also, when I'm in a call, what happened to the "phone" icon in the top banner when I'm in a call?
I tend to use characters (especially >, <, ^ etc) which I can't find on the keyboard on my desire.
I used SlideIT, and they were there on that keyboard. But then the trial ran out, so I went back to using the regular one, and I'm really missing them.
Is there something I'm missing, or is the basic keyboard really just missing certain characters?
I did have a bit of a search, and I also googled it, but can't find anything to answer this.
Is there another keyboard I could use, which isn't just a trial that will expire on me?
Cheers
you can find the characters you need in the default keyboard if, after pressing the numbers/symbols tab '12#', you press the '1/2' button to the left of the space tab.
Thank you Never even noticed that button *facepalm*
And where can I find the § symbol?
