WM6 simple password entrance space! - P3600 General

Hi there!
I've been using WM5 in my P3600 for about a year. a month back i decided to turn to WM6 and it's working great so far (according to my requirements).
I tried several WM6 ROMs but all of them have the following problem:
When you set your device password to be simple (4 digits), you don't get the ONLY 4 characters (spaces) required for the simple password as in WM5, instead you would get a blank space to write down any number of characters you want then you should click ok.. While in WM5 when you set your device security to be simple, upon entering your password you would get only 4 spaces, and as soon as you enter your 4 digits it directly opens up without clicking ok ..
Does any1 know how to fix this issue in WM6?

Questions: O2 PAYG GPRS broken? MP3 player volume?

Hey,
Since finding this site a few days ago and using the unlocker tool, the forums have proven to be a very useful source of answers to most of the questions I've come up with. I've got a few questions that I haven't been able to thus far find answers for, maybe someone can answer them...
1. O2 (UK)'s GPRS PAYG service: Trying to get the settings from the O2 web site (from various phones), it suggests that I use the following settings:
Access Point Name: payandgo.o2.co.uk
username: payandgo uk (I presume the 'uk' bit is meant to be included)
password: password
IP address: 193.113.200.195
However, whenever I try to connect, it tries twice and then gives an unable to connect for unknown reason error. I used to have random trouble connecting to GPRS on my old Nokia 3300, so the first few times, I just put it down to chance whether I'd get onto it or not, but after trying many times this week, I still can't get on it.
I can't see any info on O2's site other than which settings to use, and they don't seem to be working. Any ideas/suggestions/additional settings?
2. Secondly, I've been using Windows Media Player to play MP3s - thankfully I found through searching that you can turn off the screen! About 2-3 hours of playback before a recharge seemed awful!
Anyway, my question is: Is there a way to override the master phone volume setting for MP3 playback? Perhaps 3rd party software would allow this? I don't like the idea that I have to turn the master volume up in order to hear songs -- thus turning up all the other sounds (beeps, application alerts, etc). I know that you can disable beeps and stuff, and I have done, but if I put the volume onto 'vibrate', I can't have sound playback.
I have another question but it's slipped my mind for now, so I'll post that at another point. Thanks in advance also.

I don't think the 'uk' should be in the username.
Username should be payandgo.
That was my first assumption, and I've already tried it. I wish the solution was that simple
Take a look here - it has the different settings dependant on GPRS WAP or GPRS Email/Web: http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html
Hmm, thanks for the link, kind of helpful... I just discovered that specifying the IP was wrong. My assumption was that the specify IP box was for the gateway as suggested in the settings on that site, but obviously it was for my own IP. I removed the specific IP and set it to obtain one automatically and now it works...
Hmm(2), on closer inspection, it connects now, but I don't seem to be able to access anything...
OK. Good
Another question
Oh yeah, I remember one of my other questions now...
Is there any way to stop the phone dialling window from popping up every time I send an SMS message? As soon as I get a confirmation service reply from O2, the dialer window pops up.
Any particular recommendations on a WiFi SD card? Is it true that the one with built-in 256MB storage is NOT compatible?

On the second point, I can confirm that it is not compatible. The WIFI only option should be OK though. You might want to look at this thread for more information.
ANOTHER question
I'm a bit narked. I took the sim outa my SPV to put into an older phone to take to a gig with me (not worth risking such a fine peice of kit!), when I got home, and put the SIM back in, ALL MY DATA HAD GONE !
I've put it down to experience now, and started fresh from scratch , I guess my fault was not enabling flight mode before I removed the SIM? I didn't get a full re-install as if it were hard reset, just EVERYTHING (pictures, files, notes, appointments) had all gone!
In a panic, I tried the permanent save/restore feature (which sadly, I hadn't already used), and annoyingly, it restored the previous owners info! I managed to clear out his contact list, tasks and owner info, as well as putting my own personal settings back, and even though I've manually trapsed through the calender removing appointments, occasionally, I'm getting reminders for appointments that don't seem to be in the calendar!
So, my next question... is there a way to clear the whole calendar in one go? Or, is there a way to make these seemingly invisible entries to show up or get a list of them? I've tried all the calendar views and I've gone back as far as 2002 on the calendar looking for entries...

Insecure XDAIIi 4 Digit Password

Has anyone else noticed this:-
I happened to enter a simple 4 digit password into my XDAIIi that began with 08.
When subsequently asked to enter the password, after entering the 0 then the 8, the 08 appears in clear text on the screen!
They go back to the * display when entering the 3rd & 4th digit but it seems weird why this combination goes into plaint text - I've tried other password codes but haven't found any others that exhibit this 'characteristic'.
This also happens if you have a SIM password which starts with 08.
Furthermore if you do a soft reset, and you enter your password before the lengthy boot up process continues, not only does the 08 get displayed during entry, the fourth digit is left highlighted on the keypad - thus some sharp eyed thief, eavesdropping on your password entry would only have to work through 10 combinations to get access to your XDA.
So a word of advice - avoid 08xx password codes on your XDA if you're at all concerned about the security of your XDA (then again if you are that concerned, you probably will be using a strong alphanumeric password).
Please let me know whether its just my XDA thats doing this or is it a design feature and if so, any ideas why?
Emergency numbers are always displayed and allowed to be called from any mobile phone, no matter if it's locked or not. (eg. 999, 112, 911 etc) It's a legal requirement.

Can I remove all O2 stuff from my MDA EXEC

I bought an MDA EXEC but I am using it on a different network. Itried to download i-mate JASJAR ROm but would not install because of country code. Can I make my MDA into an i-mate or a universal?
Thanks
YES YOU CAN! xda executive corporate mood
Yes you can avoid the o2 interface. Do a hard rest and when the phone starts chose the corporate mood and the password is 0506.
This will even give you a faster XDA Executvive.
All the best and enjoy
I just got an exec and was wondering whether to get rid of all the O2 stuff. If you do a corporate install, what settings do you have to enter manually to be able to get web access over gprs/3g? Also i noticed another thread that says you can delete the o2active directory and do a soft reset to get rid of the O2 stuff. Does this give a decent speed increase like the corporate install? What is the difference between doing a corporate install and just deleting the active stuff?
Thanks for any replies!

Hello,
Is this different then going to 'programs - install type - corporate'? and not entering a password, but still using corporate (=
if so, how.
Thanks
thank you it works
What advantage does the corporate install have over just choosing basic ?

I havent tried your method but I think they are different in that your method ends up with still the o2 blue interface and shortcuts all appering on your home and this is what slows your XDA.
Whereas in the hard reset corporate install you end up with the original windows home page and some speed from the XDA Exe.
Hope this helps
XDA EXE CORPORATE INSTALL SET UP GUIDE AND PROS
Well I may not have all the answers to the advantages of the corporate installbut the main one is SPEED and the remove of the clutter from O2.
By the way am not very good with the XDA am just a newbabie who is trying to find answers on the web and forums on how to get the best from me XDA Exe which I just LOVE. Have just changed from two years of using the Motorala A925 AND A1000. was pissed off that THREE network never got this most powerful phone in the word according to STUFF MAGAZINE when every network hard it. How could they offer me another A1000 for the second year on renewing the contract. Enough of 3 well am trying to make the best of this phone now.
Here is how someone talKs about this from a different forum and I hope I can get in the link in too
# re: O2 XDA Exec
Lo Here XDA EXEC brothers,
Want to make it faster? Do as the dude says it above, change to Corporate Install.... Be warned every setting, data, files, events, contacts blah-blah will be gone... but you can re-set the lot in CORPORATE INSTALL instead of O2 ACTIVE install.
So this is How you do it! : Do a hard reset (press and hold the two buttons on the top row that have horizontal lines on, meanwhile poking the soft reset button on the back.
OK now it does the whole "windows installing" bit, man I hat microsoft, anyways... so then you have to do the calibrating of the screen and eventually choose between install types... pick CORPORATE INSTALL (passcode: 0506) then let the thing install itself to its most pure and basic self....
Alright now you have to set the connection back up. 3G and phoning takes care of itself automatically, but to connect to the internet you need to add a new connection (in settings bit):
the o2 Details for that is
connection name: o2 web
access point: mobile.o2.co.uk
username: faster
pw: password
CLICK Advanced tab, go to servers, pick the second bullet point and set the servers address as follows
DNS: 193.113.200.200
AltDNS:193.113.200.201
now if you have had wireless set up go to your wireless settings and do that according to your ISP provider for the wireless, not rocketscience at all.
For MMS settings
server O2UK
193.113.200.195
port 9201
server address: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
And there you have it, now you got a superfast, much leaner much more customisable and efficient XDA EXEC.... damn I'm good!
adios
ps: i hate microsoft anything, but this little gadget KICKS ASS!!!!!!

Thanks!

Fresh Mobile Settings

I've spent 20 minutes using the worst search facility ever encountered. If I have to type the 6 digit verification code one more time...
Anyway, changed from o2 to Fresh Mobile. I think I have GPRS working after creating a new connection
I guess I need to add new details for MMS, but can't find any
Anyone already done this ?

Request password at SIM change

Hi,
Does anybody know a software that request password to unlock the device if the SIM card is changed?
I found one for Symbian devices
http://my-symbian.com/s60v3/software/applications.php?faq=15&fldAuto=123
but I wonder if there is something similar for windows mobile based devices.
Thnks in advance
Sprite Terminator does this. After initial setup you restart, enter your password and then disable the password lock(which it enables automatically), then it will only re-activate on sim change.
Please note: DO NOT change the password to a simple one(Don't even change the setting to simple before you disable it), it will screw up your device. Turn the devicelock password off completely. I learned this from experience ;-)
It sounds quite interesting I´ll have a look at that software.
Thanks for the info.
