Cheapo eBay desktop cradles - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Accessories

Has anyone purchased any of the cheap ($9.99) cradles listed on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/For-Sprint-PPC-...m/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290202333980 for example)?
I am not expecting great quality, but I just want to know if the 8925 fits snuggly in there and that when you take it off it's not a two hands operation because the phone is jammed so hard in the cradle that it takes two hands to take it off.
Thanks.

Briefly considered it, but didn't pull the trigger. (I actually had my eye on a different model that allowed you to charge a separate battery at the same time).
My main concern with these docks is that it appears alot of stress can be put on the mini usb port (which is really the only thing connecting the two, and appears to rely on it to keep the standing phone up?) Given the RLOD issues floating about, I personally wouldn't use it...

I bought one. Its one of the squarish ones with an external extra battery charger. It works great! The Kaiser fits snuggly and relatively securely in the cradle. I don't have an extra battery, so I haven't tested the external charger. My only complaint is the LED on the front. It is always on (docked or not) and is INCREDIBLY bright. I turned out the lights in my office, and there was a blue circle projected on the ceiling from this LED! I put a small square of duct tape over the LED, and I can STILL see it! At least it is at a sane brightness level now. Anyway, I recomend this cradle, works great.

i bought two of the little UFO pod looking ones off eBay, one for home and one for the office. They both work great, but being cheap chinese made products, one of them arrived in 2 pieces because whoever assembled it stripped all the screws holding the top and bottom halves together. A little super glue and all was well. I like them and the phone does get supported by the mini usb, but also leans back to the point that it rests against the cradle itself slightly, so im not worried about over stressing the port.

ebay cradles
I have the cradle with "free" 1300Ma battery.
The mount is just a mini usb connector, sometimes is hard to align, unlike the ipaq cradles that have guide slots.
It takes a long time to charge the battery, and you can't tell which battery is being charged.
The blue light in on all the time (power), the other flashes red/green.
It's ok

i have one of those cheapo ones and its fine. initially the charge and battery charge lights were a bit random but now seem to be ok. good thing is i can charge my extended (ie thicker) battery in it as it lays flat in the back

Kaiser Cradles

Here's the first shipping cradle, not for me yet as I'm looking for one that charges a 2nd battery. There is one here that has audio out however;
http://www.seidioonline.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=1211
Have you seen a stand alone charger that will charge just the battery?
I'm not one for leaving the phone in the cradle, but I do like to charge a spare battery and cycle the batteries.
I have my eye out for one as well, Last time I got a nice one from Sedio.
Although, I also got a Cradle/Spare Charger from Mobile Planet for my Hermes that was smaller than the single charger so that's what I ended up traveling with, so I could charge 2 when needed. The mobile planet one was from HTC and was the best quality, hopefully they'll make a TyTN version.
Kaiser Cradle with Extra Battery Charger
I ran across this one today...but it says it is not in stock yet.
http://www.talkietech.com/htckatiip4de.html
I emailed them, but have not heard back on an estimated date yet.
It looks good, but looking at the pictures, it has more that 4 contacts for the battery which looks more like TyTN's instead of TyTN II but that's probably a mock-up. I'm hoping still for a HTC version, their TyTN version had the 2nd battery set on edge behind the phone which made for a much more compact charger. Fingers crossed for a type II version..

I'm afraid to use my 8925 as a daily phone without a spare battery. I can get through the day with my 750 with a spare battery in pocket (usually go from 7 a.m. until around 3 with the first battery).
But with only one battery and no stand alone charger, the 8925 is kind of a toy at this point.
Hey buddy, I have a "stand alone" charger to sell you for 1000 bucks. It's fully featured with a 2.8 inch touch screen, bluetooth, wifi, keyboard, GPS and phone. I'll even throw in a 2 gig microsd card and free shipping too.
I will take it!
But only if you will take Western Union and throw in the Brooklyn Bridge.
Gotta believe with AT&T releasing the Tilt we will have cradles and batteries available pretty fast.
here is the link and it is on sale http://www.talkietech.com/htckatiip4de.html
re
the link says that its still not in stock and coming soon.
Is the Tilt able to use the 8525's desktop cradle?
In most cases it will fit, but the rear is thinner so there isn't good support. I'm using one carefully until I can get the real deal for Kaiser/Tilt. Any 2nd battery cradle will NOT fit/charge the Kaiser battery.
I have the following cradles available for the Kaiser:
- Vertical cradle (no 2nd battery charger)
- Horizontal cradle (no 2nd battery charger)
- Vertical cradle with 2nd battery charger
- Dome-style vertical cradle (no 2nd battery charger)
Pictures are below.
If you're interested ... PM me.
Interesting cradle, that horizontal one. But how does it load? The USB-Port is on the other side or is it just an "photo-fake"?
Bye, Peter
the horizontal one looks dope.
The hoizontal one is junk. I got one just like it for my XV6700. The mini USB never lined up quite right. Eventually, I slid the phone in and the mini USB connector broke off and went into the dock. It then became a worthless paperweight. The cutesy stylus is super cheap clear plastic.
Also, as someone else has already noted, the picture has the phone placement wrong.
Has anyone tried this from PDAir? Looks ok.
I just got a shipment confirmation for a cradle from Talkietech.com so it looks like they have it in stock.

how to fast charge yr athena in yr car/from yr PC

yes, only by short circuiting the x and the 4 pins start a FAST recharging on regular USB cable.!! i recharged my athena, in my car, with a modified USB cable 20% in 50 minutes! before modifying the cable all i was able to achieve was 10% in 3 hours!

here is a short "how to" with pics at: http://picasaweb.google.com/whvoltage/USBCableMod. i took no responsibility for any damages caused by my tutorial. i did it and it worked.
1. peel with a knife (watch yr fingers!) the molded plastic.
2. remove the metal casing with a small screwdriver. start from the part that holds the cable after this gently release the 2 parts parts of the metal casing.
3. it's time to release the contacts.
4. clean the contacts with alcohol (don't waste good wisky) for a good and fast welding.
5. the delicate part is to create the short. be fast, underneath the pins there is a relatively thin layer of plastic.
6. done.
7. rebuild the casing.
no syncing after this modification. for syincing you''l have to use an unmodified cable.
now for the real funny staff: after finishing i realized that i did it "the hard way".
why? i did it on the small and very delicate end of the cable. i am sure it is much easier to do it on bigger, wider end. i am an electrical engineer and i once upon a time i learned that a cable shortened at one end will be shortened at the other end also. i laugh at my self for about 5 minutes......
next step: an universal cable that is charging and syncing and works with my athena AND with my trinity. how? i'll add a toggle switch (this time at the wider end, hehehe).
to be continued....
Great mod...
though I actually use a diddy usb car charger made for a motorola that has a quick charge system built in. This does the trick for me with out the risk of me blowing up my Ameo and car as I am crap at soldering!
Plus 80nok here in Norway is a bargin (about 15usd)

i also tried in my car a Motorola cable. no success.....
yes, there are special cables (found one that actually has 2 heads, one sync one for charging) but they are not available in my country.
athena did not "made waves" here....too big to carry...
i bought one, second hand only for my car. when i walk i carry a trinity.
the athena will be mounted in my car (beat the hell of all the navigation/bluetooth devices sold for cars).
and btw, my athena was charged from 5% to 10% in just 10 minutes!
Oh I!
Forgot to mention that the connection was very loose from the Motorola charger and after a small sqeeze or two from some pliers it fitted great. When loose the charger worked on rare occasions. After the squeeze it charges all the time and bloody quick too with no visible side effects.
HTC wall outlet charger
I have made measurements in my wall outlet charger which came with HTC Advantage X7501 and can confirm that there is short circuit between pin X and pin 4 (GND). So, looks like Advantage check this for FAST charging.
My soultion to the charging issue is I use an inverter and a wall charger from my kaiser and this works fairly well. before that the car charging kit would not even maintain the charge if gps was running.
Cheers

BARGAIN: DeskTop Charger & 2x 1340mAh Batteries

DeskTop Charger & 2x (Yes 2) 1340mAh Batteries for £15 (AU $ 31) including delivery to the UK - Gotta be a bargain?
Just ordered from Ebay (See Link) - will add comments on quality, build etc when they arrive.....
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290264206436
.
That´s a REAL bargain, I am buying the "kit" right now. But warantee doesn´t cover exploding non-original batteris Hmmm.... Hope it´s good quality.
charge current ?
But since I do not see any wall mount adapter, max. charge current will be limited to 500mA.
When charging phone and battery together, time to charge would be around 7 hours. Only 3.5 ~ 4 hours for phone

Guys - The order arrived on Tuesday - I've been away on business and just got back but got the package just before I left. It was sent recorded delivery and well packaged....
The desk-top charger and 2 x batteries (they look like OEM batteries but dont expect they are) I unwrapped one and took it and the charger with me.
Ive been using the replacement battery for the last 2 days and to be honest it seems to be better than my original?
The desktop charger is very good - good build quality and pretty light in terms of weight - the only slight drawback is that the charging status LED's are very bright but thats not a huge issue?
I will post some photo's when I get a chance....
Overall: VERY IMPRESSED & DEFINATELY A BARGAIN!!!!
.
Thanks!
Just ordered one as well based on your feedback
Blob8me,
Thank you for your comments.
I ordered the discussed items today. £15 for x2 batteries and a charger is very good value.
As I see it these devices can be thirsty. For that reason I used x3 batteries and an extra charger for my Tytn ii and Tytn i. It is easy to carry an extra charged battery in a leather sleeve the size of a matchbox. A small inconvenience when one considers that often the alternative would be to carry a laptop around - bit of a nuisance when one cycles in London or flying somewhere and want to listen to music or watch media en route.
Rgs,
J
Ordered mine today - the exchange rate must have changed in my favour, cost me £12.62 for the 2 batteries and desktop charger.
Hello.
Hoes HTC Touch Pro support hot-swappable batteries?
(Battery change without soft reset)
Bye
Yes, during the battery switch it runs on either solar or nuclear power, you need to select which one you prefer in Settings/System/Power Options......
Seriously, no when you remove the battery the unit goes off completely. So no hot-swapping
Got mine a couple of days ago. Charger seems to be pretty well built. The usb cable that came with it was also of thicker quality, not those el-cheapo type. The LED sure are bright! A little too bright for me! hehe! The 2 batteries looked pretty good in built quality. I was kind of impressed at first glance.
Here comes my 'bad' news... after charging for 10 hours or so, the LED stayed constant..supposedly indicating that the battery is fully charged. But when i popped the battery into my Touch Pro, it just refused to turn on! Both batteries show the same problem. And I was extra careful to align the terminals to the charging point. What a let-down!
anyone else face this? I know Blob8me is satisfied with his...what abt others? care to comment?
Tried soft reset?
I mean:
Turn off.
Switch battery to a new one.
Press soft reset.
I also got them this week. Both batteries worked fine. The only thing I noticed is that they are a little thicker making it a little more difficult to put the back cover back on.

Hi soundguy1202
Sorry to hear you've had a problem with the batteries - and with both of them which seems odd - if it was just one of the batteries then maybe I wouldnt have been suprised?
Did you try the soft reset as mentioned above (not that it should have needed that? Let us know how you get on......
I'm still using mine and still happy - I did notice, as peebee01 mentions that the replacement batteries we a micron or 2 thicker but actually seem to be getting better performance from them than the original OEM battery?
.
well...i tried to soft reset... even to the extent of replacing the back cover first.. but to no avail...for both batteries. guess i got a bad charger? even when i put the battery in the phone and plug in the wall charger unit, it doesn't turn on. of course, this may be due to the battery no being charged in the first place! anyway, i will try get a meter and measure the battery output.
my batteries where also a tad thick, like u said...one was manageable but one needed a little pressure to put in place!
Also funny to see they print "HTC innovation" on them, but its horizontal vs. vertical on the orignal one. Plus on the back there is a serial number, but both batteries I have have the same serial..... That's real Chinese copying ;-)
Mine arrived today. Damn those led's are bright! I might be noobing it up, but am i the only one that's having trouble getting the batteries to stay in the dock?

Extra Battery Question For Fuze

Hello all
I value the opinion of the members here so I wanted to ask an updated battery question for my FUZE. There are many threads here about different batteries, but most are old. I am looking for current info if any.
Background:
1) I do not like the way the extended batteries look and how huge they make the phone.
2) So I am looking for a second backup battery (regular size) that I can have charged and with me on business trips to use when first battery runs out of juice.
THE QUESTION -
Can anyone post current links to backup batteries they have purchased that either have cradles with them, or some other external way to charge them outside of the phone. I need to be able to use my phone while the back up battery is charging.
Thank you everyone for the links and feedback.
Also - is there something like this - http://www.daydeal.com/product.php?productid=27821&cat=3792 that comes with the cradle AND the second battery THAT PEOPLE RECOMMEND. Thanks
I am in the same boat. I am reluctant to purchase batteries off ebay for fear they are fakes. There are way too many "too good to be true" deals. I made that mistake with my Tilt and I am reluctant to go down the same path.
Daydeal.com looks like they might be legit.
That site looks ok, and the cradle looks good including the dock for a second battery. Has anyone on the forums picked one of these up?
dwight.
I picked up a extra Seido battery, but am also hoping for some type of 2nd charger or dock. This one looks rather nice, but I wonder if there are any other alternatives (such as an official HTC dock)?
If anyone does pick this up, i'd love to hear an opinion on it.
pick up the seidio 1500mah extended battery. it is really your only option. it easily adds 2-3 more hours of usability.
Pulled this off another thread. Looks better than the one on daydeal.
http://mobile.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=03819&dept_id=039&cat_id=1149
I purchased this one - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350158863101
I received it in a little under a week. It is black, very slick looking and the replacement battery says htc innovation on it so it looks legit. it came with both a usb connection to the computer and a power cord adapter to plug into the wall. Is pretty small and compact. I will report back after using the replacement battery once it has charged for a while.
TVDinner,
Hows that battery doing for? I'm thinking of buying same deal today.
see this for emergency charge I buy them and never has a problem with runing down power finaly I can use my GPS with offroad map on mountain

or there is cheaper Solar Charger like this
http://cgi.ebay.com/SOLAR-BATTERY-P...5|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:0|293:1|294:50
I got this one off of eBay and it' great Clicky
The base is nice and sturdy, not like the cheap crap the one for my N95 was. And the spare batter lasts for along time as well, so it's all good
I picked up this dock (w/spare battery charger) for $16.83:
http://www.amazon.com/Premium-Multi-Function-Cradle-Touch/dp/B001I1LJ8M
along with this spare battery for $8.59:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.16225
From my visual comparison, the battery looks almost identical to my original as far as the printing goes except the new one is white where the old one is more of a really light gray. The meter on the battery from dealextreme doesn't seem as accurate as the OEM battery but it seems to hold a charge well. I guess that's the trade off for not buying an OEM battery.
The cradle itself is really sturdy but I've noticed that if I leave my Fuze in it for too long, Activesync loses the connection and I have to unplug everything and reconnect to get it to recognize (this doesn't happen with direct USB connection). However, it will continue to charge even if Activesync loses the connection. The cradle comes with a miniUSB cable and an AC adapter (barrel plug) that can be plugged into the rear. The spare battery charger will only work when the AC adapter is plugged in but either connection allows the phone to charge (both connections at the same time is not recommended).
My battery and doc
Had the same problem, and found (with my previous Hermes) that having two regular batteries and a doc that could charge the phone and extra battery at the same time was the best solution. I went to the AT&T store and bought the extra battery for $35 or so. At mobileplanet.com (eXpansys) I bought the extra battery charger/dock http://www.expansys-usa.com/p.aspx?i=172873 that has been great since. One word of caution (if you care)- the dock/charger comes with a wall charger cord that DOES NOT end in a mini USB. Therefore the dock uses the standard round 5V connection instead. Since mine stays stationary next to the bed (i grab the batt and phone each day when I leave, and put them back at night) this was a non issue. However, unlike the HTC branded one for the Hermes, the battery is flush in the charger, rather than standing up at an angle behind the phone, so this dock is a bit larger 2.5" by 4" then previous versions, but does all you are asking for.
USB Charger w/Backup Battery Support
I found the same charger on Amazon.com for a few dollars less if some of you are worried about DayDeal. Here's the link:
http://www.amazon.com/Hotsync-Deskt...GGPS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1241719899&sr=8-3
I bought this today and am heading across the country on a trip. I'll report back on how well it works.
Has anyone tried this spare battery charger?
http://www.seidioonline.com/product-p/bd3-bcsi3htchx1-bk.htm
I don't really need a cradle. If I needed to, I could connect a USB cable to this and charge me phone as well as the spare battery.
Not really sure if its worth the price or not.
Charging Station/Dock and Spare Battery
So I received the spare battery and charging station that I ordered from Amazon. It isn't anything spectacular, but feels solid and works like a champ. It came with a 120v A/C Wall adapter and an extra USB cable so I could either use it to connect my Fuze directly to the computer by USB, or just plug it in to an outlet for charging. Works great. I would recommend it, but I haven't had much experience yet, just charged the spare and swapped the batteries out of the device.
Whos got Extended battery on there Att Fuze ?

My evo 4g wont charge

One day i woke up and my evo stopped accepting charge with both usb and wall charger just wondering if 8 can fix it somehow also i am using an alrernative methode of charging it. Ill explain it in case others think there evos are trash sence they cant get it charged. I used a blue lighted charger[single blue dot on the plug] on the part that connects to the phone i cut it from its base, seperating it from the black wire leaving a plug still connected to the wire. I strippes the wires bare(red and black or translusent and black) about an inch and twist them to a fine lone point. From here i take my phone remove the battery and find where the four copper recivers that lune up with the relitive four on the battery. From here i take the black wire that i stripped bare to an inch and thread it through the copper recivers hook like hole on the far left side and do the same with the red on the far right makeing sure they dont touch the other two recivers. Where '^' is a copper reciver and '+' being red wire and '-' being negitive or black it should look like the' - ^ ^ + '. I then connect the battery and the blue light on the charger will light up if done properly i then plug it in and let it charge.

I know my evo usb port broke over time, it got worse and worse. I could use a book to angle the charger up, but that stopped working finally. I now have to use a wall battery charger as I have not found any angle on the charger to get it started.
You could also try flashing a new rom to see if it fixes the issue.
Some suspect the stock cables of being poorly made. Try a different cable.
Also, you can get battery chargers for about $4 (shipped from the U.S.) on Ebay. Much safer than two bare wires. Do that and a spare battery (also cheap) and you should be good.
Look up Hero batteries, they fit and for some reason are half the price, I paid $3 (shipped from the U.S.) for an oem hero battery in good condition.

Same thing happened with mine. To many nights of falling asleep on it with the charger plugged in. Fortunately mine still works but I have to angle it like you. It's not a big deal anymore since I purchased two Gorilla batteries and a wall charger. I use a FTP server to do any transferring of files I need.

Evo charging
Try something as simple as powering down your evo then remove the battery for say a minute or two reinstall battery plug in charger This has worked on my evo when it won't take a charge not sure what it clears out but a good place to start before cutting charge cables or other routes that may not be needed. best of luck.

This happened to me when it would die completely while still on the charger...
Sometimes I would have to leave the battery out for HOURS!!! Sometimes a whole day or it wouldn't start again.

Mine doesn't charge with some chargers for some reason. It'll charge up fine with the HTC units that came with the phone, aside from that it seems like I get a trickle charge with any other. My port is also loose, ahh well. Few more months and the SIII will drop hopefully.
Mine stopped charging through the USB port so I took it back to Sprint about a month ago and they replaced it at no charge. Was surprised that they replaced it after I had it so long (got it on launch day).
My Evo stop charging as well, I took it into Sprint and they ordered a replacement for me. I didn't have insurance so I had to pay $35 bucks. I still thought it was a good deal considering I basically got a new phone and I bought it almost two years ago
