I dropped my 8525 this morning. It didn't seem like it hit anything very hard.
Now I get no sound at all out of the speaker - including the phone ring tone - if the stylus is pushed all the way in. I can pull the stylus out about 1/8" and get the sound back, but then it won't fit in the case.
Do any of you have any ideas on how to fix this?
*UPDATE*: Edited because I've now found that it's not just the speakerphone.
I have a similar problem but i don't think i dropped the phone. (well, I've dropped the phone, a bunch of times actually, but not recently.) It just seems like the problem showed up out of nowhere. I tried soft and hard reset, updated the radio and SPL and ROM but nothing has worked so far.
I'm not sure if this may just be a hardware problem because i get no sound at all (no ring tone, alarm, touch pad sounds, sync sounds... etc. ) But when i plug in the headset i can hear everything just fine.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Simple - known and posted about problem. Your rear speaker connection is loose. It just needs pushed back on. (and by the way it's near the stylus end taht's why fiddling with the stylus makes it come on)
Here is a link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2001027&postcount=5 You'll see a pic of the rear speaker and it's white block and red/black wires.
In short the rear casing needs to be removed and connector pushed back on.
You may or may not find the stylus rubber block is loose. If so PM me and I'll tell you how to fix it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299104 just to show the stlus rubber can come loose.

suddenly, the speakers of my wizard (Qteck 9100) doesn't work anymore.
When playing mp3's or making a phone call, I just can't here anything anymore! When using my headset, everything works fine.
Since there are 3 speakers, (2 stereo for music and 1 for phone speaker) which doesn't work anymore, I suppose this is a software error and not my hardware.
Is there anyone with some ideas for registry changes or so to make it work again? Else I will return it and let them fix it (still in garantee)
thanks!

the main speaker on my 9100 just quit one day while it was sitting on my desk and hasn't worked since. Hard reset didn't help. New rom install didn't help. Gonna take it apart and look around soon.

I've had this happen to me. What I surmised was that the phone probably thought the headset was still plugged in. I had to do a headset exchange with T-mobile USA.
There's a known fault in the wizard headphone jack socket switch which stays open when the head phone jack is removed. Plugging the jack in and giving it a good "waggle" sorts it apparently.
PS "waggle" is an old Swedish word for moving something back and forth while having your left trouser leg rolled up to your knee.
eek
this actually happened to me when my headphone jack's tip broke off and stayed in the connector. if you pop off the battery, you can see the tip. just make sure nothing's there, to verify that your problem isn't physical.

I tried the "waggle" but it didn't work. I ended up replacing the headset since it was still under warranty with T-Mobile USA. However I use the headset plug quite a lot since I use the phone as an MP3 player during my work commute, so this is a cause for concern.
I had never used the headset and never put anything in that jack. Still the speake stopped working.
found out what was wrong with mine. Turns out that the ribbon cable that connects the lcd part to the keyboard part got snagged on something and had a couple of mm gash torn in the side. I noticed that sliding the keyboard open made kind of a crumply noise. I thought it was some flaw in the slide design, but it was just the broken cable rubbing against something. Still not sure where to get it fixed though (other than germany)
I had the same problem with this f*** headsets... I tried since two hours to "waggle" it and it didn't change anything... I'm going to try with other headsets tomorrow if it's the only solution
This happened to me again with my replacement MDA. This is what I ended up doing - take off the back plate and remove the battery. If you look at where the battery used to be towards the bottom of the phone, you'll sorta see the headphone connector. Use your stylus and wiggle it around thru the slight hole. That might do the trick.
Thanks,
I could solve my problem too this way, just kept moving in and out the headphone jack till it worked.

One question, How many times you did it to make the sound work again ?
well, i think it took me some time, just wanted to give it up and suddenly it worked (play some music while trying, so you here it when it will work)
I also pushed and turned a little bit with the headphone jack into the headphone input connector, but be carefull with that, the headphone jack could break and parts of it could stay into the headphone input connector, and I assume that would make your problem bigger than before...
anyway, if it really doesn't work, you should return it asap, I should be replaced ...
good luck
This fixed my speakers
Incase someone wonders over to this thread:
I very gently wiggled the headphone jack whilst playing an mp3, and it worked.
I am so relieved that I dont have to take it in to be repaired.
If you cant get it to work straight away, try blowing into the socket, or use a toothpick. But remember to be gentle.
The rear speaker of my JAMin blew... I need a replacement so I can do the work myself and not have to send it over for a week to the lab. Where can I get one?
Thanks,
Nir
How to repair the sound issue on Prophet
Hi
I could read a lot of posts on that issue and found this solution:
Remove the battery cover. Then the camera cover: to do so, lift up the gently the cover starting from the side of the battery.
You will see something looking like a fan. This is the speaker. the problem is with the red wire whixh connect the speaker.
Turn on your prophet and run your favourite MP3 song.
then touch the red wire with your stylus. The sound should come back. Insert a piece of folded paper to keep the cable properly fixed. that's all
Watch out not to wish to fix it too nicely, you could damage the wire !
Hope this help, otherwise a return to the service department will be necessary !
Hope this helps

Hay the paper trick works!
I went here to learn how to remove the flap to the speakers:
http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=240109
Well, my speaker had the voice coil broken... touching the membrane would bring it back to life but that is no real solution. I replaced it with a speaker from a used old cellphone with some minor use of hot glue to fix it in place and seal around it.
It works now just as new.
Nir
yeah it is a real Problem.
mine is broken twice in 6 months.
tried the paper thing. but it sometimes sounds weird and there's some hissing. maybe I did it wrong. so I tweak it a bit and just lost it completely. no sound whatsoever now.
went to the service center today. they said that they have a new batch of speaker which supposed to be better than the previous one. if anyone can confirm.

That's great, this fixed my problem. After I touch the red wire with my stylus, the speaker just works fine, don't even need a folder paper.

I'll try this one myself - my speaker just died again - it's been back once already.
Well, I followed the instructions above and now I have a working speaker again. A very low tech fix to a high tech device.
I have found a small bit of sponge does the job better than folded paper.
what is the type of speaker.
i mean can i use any speaker?
what's the best?
Mohammad, you seem to have missed the point of the replies in this thread. We don't know where to get another speaker from but we do know how to make the existing one work again.
oh, dude!!!
sorry
What a piece of ugly Speaker: O2 xda Neo!
Hay Guys,
I am suffering from this nasty problem since sometime. My brother has tweaked the speakers with a metal piece seem to work. However if I use speakerphone, it goes off.
Is there a permanent solution to this constant spurce of unhappiness.
Incidently I have been blessed with a on & off camera problem as well. I think I will never buy a DOPOD product in my life again.
My Camera has those colour matrix instead of proper images. Occasionally it behaves normally. I have tried hard reset already.
Any body? help !!!!!

I wedged in a piece of foam. That's worked a treat.
The manufaturing quality of HTC is bad
I also have the speaker problem. And thanks for all of you to suggest that sponge and folder trick. I did it and i have put a small slice of ear plug sponge. For past 2 days my spearker is working. But dont know how long will this sponge give my speaker lifesupport. I am sure after few days again its going to be problem. Hey,...... is there anyone in this thread who has used sponge/paper and the speaker is working for long time.. at least a year ?.
These HTC products seem really bad quality products.
that worked

motorola l7 speaker is too a candidate
It's too bad they saved on the speaker. Guess the manufacturer of the speaker had a very nice presentation @ HTC
Trying to download that pdf file, but it's not working :/ However I've read on other occasions that people talk about that motorola speaker as a replacement. Might be worth giving a more detailed look into that.
What exactly is the problem with the speaker btw? Did anyone narrowed that down already? Why is the speaker not functioning properly?
pdf
The file contains instructions to change the original speaker using the spk of a motorola v525.
I did it yesterday, and works fine, but isn´t easy to do it
My friend has a charmer and though the phone still works there is no ringing from the speaker. The vibrate function still works etc. Tried soft resetting but still nothing. Anyone any ideas....cheers jd76....
Probably the headphone slot is jammed which is causing the problem. The phone "thinks" the headphones are plugged in, and that's why you dont hear anything from the rear speaker. Take a needle and try to scratch the headphone slot in the inside.
Thank you Vlodeck I'll ask him to give it a try and see how he gets on. Thanks again..JD76..
had this problem with one of mine, the speaker had completely blown. got a new one on e-bay and fitted it.
fitting is a bit dirricult at first but simple once you have got the phone open.
chris
I'm now going to have to do the same with my Charmer, as well. I feel the same thing wil happen to the replacement speaker, eventualy.
Hi,
So today I was watching a movie in bed and holding my transformer with 1 hand. The bezel (or thing that separates the screen from the sides) suddenly moved up so it was now disconnected from the screen. My headphones had stopped working. I pushed back on the screen/bezel area and it got back into place but now anything connected to the audio jack doesn't work properly. There is no notification that anything is connected another sound comes out of the tablet as well as the headphones. Please help, as I am going on a 12 hour flight in 2 days and really want it for movies.
Thanks
Do the sounds thought speaker still works? Do your headphones still working with other device?
yes and yes
sounds like the spring connector in the headphone socket might have bent, had the same problem but in reverse years ago on an xda exec a little plate that makes a contact when the headphones are inserted got jammed in the open headphone position so no phone speaker. Yours sounds as if the contact might have bent when your bezel loosened and is not making the contact when inserted. Looks like an Asus job. The contact is doglegged so that when the jack is in it closes the contact, if yours/has bent straight when the jack is in it still won't contact.
But then again could be wrong.
maybe clean ?

This happened to me too. After I mod my tablet to add 2.5mm barrel plug charger my speakers stopped and the audio jack worked in only one side. Then a few hours later after I pressed on the bezel in the same place as you the audio jack did not work in either side. I read about reboot the tablet to reset audio and tried but it did not work for me. I opened my tablet and unplugged my speakers from the board and the audio jack now works 100%. I have replacement speakers, so I will soon be reinstalling and testing the original speakers and my replacements and maybe get to the bottom of this problem.
So maybe a tablet reboot (off and on) will do same for you without opening. Maybe there is another trick to reset the audio, but I do not know. It may be something else, but I do not know. Good luck.
If you want to open and unplug & plug speakers you need a torq #5 to open the two screws. Put thumbs on screen and finger nails over edge and under bezel lip and push/pull gently - starting a one of the top corners. If you get hung try wiggling a small plastic tool under edge and try again, carefully. The speaker plug on mobo is small white socket mounted on board in bottom left. Careful to not void warranty.
Thanks
Thanks everyone for your replys but I have a couple other irreparable problems so I'm sending it back to amazon
Some days ago my Touch2 started acting up - I guess after it got a bit too humid when I was wearing it under my T-Shirt while walking. The Touchscreen did not work. When I removed the battery cover I noticed the phone was a bit wet inside (sweat), so I figured that was probably causing the issues. After turning it off, removing the battery, and leaving it to dry for a day it was working OK again.
Next day I got a phone call (first one since drying after the the touchscreen issue), I answered, heard a pretty loud and distorted sound out of the speaker for less than a second, and then I didn't hear anything anymore. The other person could not hear me either. Since then I cannot hear people making calls, and they cannot hear me - but the loud sound was only heard once, now I hear nothing. The alarms and ring tones are playing normally, though.
I already figured out that the phone seems to think there is a headphone plugged all the time, since the headphone icon is present all times. With the headphone everything is working OK as well. So I guess it is the detection acting up. I am guessing this is a mechanical detection (opening switch when plugging in), but I am not sure. Does anyone have any idea? I will also try to look inside the earphones hole, trying to see if anything is mechanically broken or stuck... repeatedly plugging/unplugging didn't help, neither did blowing inside there...
Any ideas?
Edit: My Mega has a HK CHT Stock ROM, flashed over the Taiwan CHT ROM after hard SPL. I tried resets etc. but no hard reset yet.
